    What's the best way to center icons on a line when the icons are smaller than the line height? For example (styles inline for easier reading): <div style="line-height: 20px"> <img style="width: 12px; height: 12px;"/> Blah blah blah </div> I want the img to be centered on a single line of the div, above. That is, even if the text wrapped to multiple lines, the image would be centered against a single line. Ideally, the solution would not involve setting margings/paddings on the image and would work even if I didn't know the line-height.   • Can IDL evaluate strings as code?

    Is there any functionality in IDL that will allow it to evaluate a a string as code? Or, failing that, is there a nice, dynamic way of including /KEYWORD in functions? For example, if I wanted to ask them for what type of map projection the user wants, is there a way to do it nicely, without large if/case statements for the /Projection_Type keyword it needs? With even a small number of user options, the combinations would cause if/case statements to get out of hand very quickly to handle all the possible options.

    I am just starting with cpp and I've been following different examples to learn from them, and I see that buffer size is set in different ways, for example: char buffer[255]; StringCchPrintf(buffer, sizeof(buffer), TEXT("%s"), X); VS char buffer[255]; StringCchPrintf(buffer, 255*sizeof(char), TEXT("%s"), X); Which one is the correct way to use it? I've seen this in other functions like InternetReadFile, ZeroMemory and MultiByteToWideChar.

  • When is it a good idea to use the CSS display property?

    I think I first learned of this property when I thought "I should put this list of items in a ul, but I want it to be laid out horizontally. I wonder if I can do that with CSS?" When I googled this, I found a couple of sites suggesting that I create a CSS rule that would change the value of the display property of the li elements to inline. I've also seen the suggestion that a div (or other block element) be given display: table-cell in order to force the vertical align property to work. These techniques seem kind of hacky. Does that make sense? This might not be a good analogy, but it seems like trying to ride a car as if it were a motorcycle. Yeah, I could replace the steering wheel with handle bars, wear a helmet, and remove all the passenger seating, but how the heck is a car going to drive on two wheels??

    It is not possible to fire an event in C# that has no handlers attached to it. So before each call it is necessary to check if the event is null. if ( MyEvent != null ) { MyEvent( param1, param2 ); } I would like to keep my code as clean as possible and get rid of those null checks. I don't think it will affect performance very much, at least not in my case. MyEvent( param1, param2 ); Right now I solve this by adding an empty inline handler to each event manually. This is error prone, since I need to remember to do that etc. void Initialize() { MyEvent += new MyEvent( (p1,p2) => { } ); } Is there a way to generate empty handlers for all events of a given class automatically using reflection and some CLR magic?

  • Project-wide additional library paths -- MSVS2008

    Hi there. I'm setting up a VC++ project in MS Visual Studio 2008 that'll be used by several people. I wanted to keep things as simple as possible so I've set up Additional Include Directories via the Project properties. I've also set up additional library files via Tools - Options - Projects and Solutions - VC++ Directories. However, my issue is that I really need to set up Additional library PATHs, because I am using an SDK which does inline linking of libraries. I could just tell each one of the participants to manually add the library path to their MSVS2008 environment, but it would be handy if I could integrate the RELATIVE library path in the project itself.

In the above example function c should fail. I could just include it in function b, but in the future I may want to let a() be called by some new functions (e.g. d() or e())

    I want to know the order of loading the CSS files in a HTML page. My actual requirement is like this: I have more than 10 CSS files in my application. I am importing some 3 to 4 CSS files in each HTML page. The problem is I have duplicate classes that defined in some CSS files. That means I override some of the CSS classes in the CSS files. In some pages it behaves correctly. In some pages it behaves wrongly. I have inline styles defined for some of the DIVs in HTML page also. I am keeping CSS class for that DIVs also. Can anyone know which one will take higher priority or which one loads first ?

For one of the functions of my app I need to determine which entries are exactly 1 week apart from each other (i.e from Sunday to Saturday) and sum the data from one of the Key-Value pairs for each day of that week.     I am not familiar with the wordpress schema at all and I need to get back a list, or array of the most recent tags from any post in the wordpress database. I just need the data available on the home page so I can then manipulate it. All the functions seem to be designed to work on a per-post basis. (Wordpress really makes me feel sorry for frequent wordpress programmers.)

    Update/Note: I think what I'm probably looking for is to get the captures of a group in PHP. Referenced: PCRE regular expressions using named pattern subroutines. (Read carefully:) I have a string that contains a variable number of segments (simplified): $subject = 'AA BB DD '; // could be 'AA BB DD CC EE ' as well I would like now to match the segments and return them via the matches array: $pattern = '/^(([a-z]+) )+$/i'; $result = preg_match_all($pattern, $subject, $matches); This will only return the last match for the capture group 2: DD. Is there a way that I can retrieve all subpattern captures (AA, BB, DD) with one regex execution? Isn't preg_match_all suitable for this? This question is a generalization. Both the $subject and $pattern are simplified. Naturally with such the general list of AA, BB, .. is much more easy to extract with other functions (e.g. explode) or with a variation of the $pattern. But I'm specifically asking how to return all of the subgroup matches with the preg_...-family of functions. For a real life case imagine you have multiple (nested) level of a variant amount of subpattern matches. Example This is an example in pseudo code to describe a bit of the background. Imagine the following: Regular definitions of tokens: CHARS := [a-z]+ PUNCT := [.,!?] WS := [ ] $subject get's tokenized based on these. The tokenization is stored inside an array of tokens (type, offset, ...). That array is then transformed into a string, containing one character per token: CHARS -> "c" PUNCT -> "p" WS -> "s" So that it's now possible to run regular expressions based on tokens (and not character classes etc.) on the token stream string index. E.g. regex: (cs)?cp to express one or more group of chars followed by a punctuation. As I now can express self-defined tokens as regex, the next step was to build the grammar. This is only an example, this is sort of ABNF style: words = word | (word space)+ word word = CHARS+ space = WS punctuation = PUNCT If I now compile the grammar for words into a (token) regex I would like to have naturally all subgroup matches of each word. words = (CHARS+) | ( (CHARS+) WS )+ (CHARS+) # words resolved to tokens words = (c+)|((c+)s)+c+ # words resolved to regex I could code until this point. Then I ran into the problem that the sub-group matches did only contain their last match. So I have the option to either create an automata for the grammar on my own (which I would like to prevent to keep the grammar expressions generic) or to somewhat make preg_match working for me somehow so I can spare that.     CLojure agents is powerful tool. So actions to the agents are asynchronously sent using functions "send" and "send-off". And in theory there couldn't appear something like deadlock. Is there possible to write some clojure code (for example invoking from some action another action to another agent) using agents in which we have some concurrency problem - it could be deadlock, race condition or anything else.   • div block going to next line in Firefox

    I have a div with display:block in my css. This div block uses the align = "absmiddle" . It displays all the elements in 1 line in Chrome. However, in firefox, the elements are displyed on to the next line as well. How do I get them to display in 1 single line in firefox.
