  • Setup a vpn server with a static IP with NAT and port forwarding

    I have a Debian VPS with an assigned static IP. I want to setup a virtual interface (with an ip like 192.168..) on my laptop (Ubuntu, dynamic IP) linked to the remote VPS, so that if I bind sockets to it the traffic is tunneled to the VPS and sent to the Internet from there. Port forwarding must be available. This looks like a job for a VPN software, but I'm clueless about the pieces of software needed. Any advice?

    I want to use WHM/Cpanel's Host Access Control interface to change some settings in hosts.allow and hosts.deny. I want to block all access to our SSH exept from the IP we have from our office. Daemon Access List Action Comment sshd ALL EXCEPT x.x.x.x deny Deny access from all other IPs apart from ours But I am worried about what happens if our IP changes, which it does about twice a week. How would I get back in to edit the hosts.allow / hosts.deny files?

  • Use an audio/video file from a Linux laptop via USB to be played by Magic Sing ET-23H

    I am one of the technical directors of a regular karaoke contest event. For the karaoke contest itself, due to tight budget, we are using what one of the sponsors are providing - Magic Sing ET-23H . The video output of the Magic Sing ET-23H are broadcasted at two big screens that are being shown to the audience and event attendees. When a karaoke contestant provides his / her karaoke video, the video itself is in a readable USB flashdrive and is attached to the USB input of Magic Sing ET-23H. What really bugs me is that the interface of Magic Sing ET-23H are also being broadcasted at the big screen video feeds. The interface of choosing the video file is being seen in the Magic Sing ET-23H - also to the big video screens that are seen by the audience and event goers. I will post in the comments ( if my less than 10 reputation would allow me) the picture of Magic Sing ET-23KH USB input of the device. I always bring my laptop, Acer AS5742-7653, during the regular karaoke event. I'm using my laptop also for tallying of scores from the judges, and also playing audio files from contestants that did not provide a karaoke video. I personally am using different Linux distros, but I next to all the time use my Ubuntu Studio 12.04.3 64bit partition during the regular karaoke contest event. My question is this: Is there a way I can share a temporary video/audio file directly from the laptop I'm using, going to the Magic Sing ET-23H that can broadcast both the video/audio file? Just like how in Window's Avisynth AVS files, or VirtualDub's temporary avi file, or like using ffplay (of ffmpeg), etc. I have researched somewhat the matter and found links in SuperUser.com. Though I can only provide the links at the comments section of this post if my reputation of less than 10 would allow me. I have a hunch it is possible, but I have not fully understood the device being used at the event, Magic Sing ET-23H, if there are other ways for it to broadcast video and audio files besides its USB input. Any help to my current predicament is highly appreciated. Thank you.   • Why is the Windows UI responds slowly after being idle for a long time?

    I open these applications in my desktop computer: Visual Studio 2010 Professional IBM Lotus Notes Google Chrome And when it is idle for an hour and I restore the windows, the user interface responds very slowly. My computer auto-lock itself after being idle for 5 minutes. I also minimize the applications using a docklet (RocketDock). Why is it slowing down and how can I prevent it from slowing? My OS is Windows XP Professional SP3, Pentum(R) Dual Core @ 2.80 GHz, 1.99 GB of RAM.

    I have Linux on an embedded system. There is no graphic system, but I still have graphic errors.   • Joining Windows 7 Professional to a Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 domain fails.

    I have a windows 7 professional (spanish) laptop trying to join a Windows Server 2003 (english) domain. It detect correctly the SRV record, finding the proper domain controller, but then the join fails with the error message (snippet, because the error is in spanish) An Active Directory Domain Controller for This Domain Could Not be Contacted The DNS is correctly set, and client can ping by name and IP the server, the server can ping the client by IP. I've tested with the FW down to no avail. A host of other XP Pro clients are connected to the domain. I've restarted Net Logon and checked that Windows Time is up. Also the times are in sync between the server and the client. I'll put below diagnostics output.   • unable to access a NAT'ed IP via a VPN on Windows 7

    I connect to a range of servers hosted by one provider via a VPN. I can connect to the VPN fine, however when I then go and try and connect to the server(s) it fails. A NAT'ed IP address that has worked up until today, has stopped working either via SSH/SFTP. As you can see below, if I try and ping the IP then it responds with Destination host unreachable, but, for some reason it says the reply is from 192.168.0.8? If it enter this IP address in my browser, I get nothing. Where is this IP coming from and is there any good reason why I cannot access the IP I am trying to ping?   • Any way to map WebDAV with SSL as network drive in Windows XP?

    I'm trying to map WebDAV with SSL as a network drive in Windows XP. (I've been at this for several hours) I can read the share just fine using a browser and with Network Places, but it refuses to mount as a network drive. I've tried it using the Windows explorer interface and net use. Net use with the \\server@ssl:443\webdav method gives System error 53. https://server/webdav gives error 67. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Primary/secondary ethernet interfaces via NetworkManager in Ubuntu 9.10

    I have an Ubuntu 9.10 machine with three ethernet interfaces, eth0, eth1 and eth2. eth2 is connected to a private network. eth0 and eth2 are connected to two different LANs. Either one will provide access to the internet. All three networks have DHCP servers. Using Ubuntu's the default settings (And Gnome), when I boot up all the interfaces are active and my system gets three IP addresses. However any attempt to access the internet results in connection timeouts and other weirdness. I suspect that traffic is going out on one NIC (like eth0) and coming back in on another (like eth1). I'm not sure what's going on. The only way I can access the internet at the moment is to bring two of the devices down with ifdown. How can I configure eth0 as my primary interface so all trafic goes out by default on that interface, while keeping the other two active? Also, I want to make sure Avahi broadcasts properly on all three IPs so that the computers on the LAN of eth1 can still connect to myHostname.local... It seems like Ubuntu is bringing the networks up in order, eth0, then 1, then 2, and the DHCP information from eth1 is overriding eth0, and eth2 is overriding eth1. How can I reverse this so the DHCP information from eth0 is the "master"? EDIT3: This seems to be an issue with Gnome's NetworkManager.

How can I recover these files from my windows xp partition? If there's isn't a way to do this from windows, what's the best way to do it in ubuntu? I'd prefer a graphical interface if that's possible. I appreciate the help.

  • Intel GMA 965 M - OpenGL missing

    I have a Lenovo 3000 N200 notebook with integrated GMA 965 VGA, using Windows 7. All my drivers are up to date, downloaded directly from the vendor site, installed with administrative privileges, etc. Yet, all OpenGL applications cannot render the interface (or any visuals). Examples are Blender (3D modeling software) and Babo Violent (top-down FPS). All the controls, sound effects and music are live, but the screen is black or light gray, respectively. What can one do?
