• How to share Opera extensions preferences between my two computers ?

  Well, the title is quite unambiguous. However, let me clarify it even more. Starting with Opera 11, there now are Opera extensions, which are compliant to W3C widget specification. This allows us to use it on whichever browser supports their (well, currently, only Opera does). Anyway, suppose I have two computers, each one using Opera. How could I possibly synchronize used extensions and their preferences ? With Opera Link ? I didn't saw any kind of extension sharing in it With Dropbox/any other file sharing application ? If so, how could I do that ?

• How to prefer ipv6 over ipv4 only for specific websites?

  I only have ipv6 connectivity via a HE tunnel on my router, so normally I want to prefer ipv4 over ipv6. For some websites however, I would like to prefer ipv6. Right now I have just set DisabledComponents to 0x20 and hard coded the ipv6 resolution into my hosts file for the sites i want to access over ipv6. Since these ip addresses change at times, this is not a good solution. Any ideas on how to handle this in a non-clunky way? Some kind of Chrome/Firefox add-on might do the trick, but I couldn't find one for this purpose.

  In one of the questions before (October 2009) the question has been answered how to get an ACER Aspire 5102WLMI with 4GB of memory up and running beyond POST. I have exactly that problem, but don’t get it resolved despite your answer. I really don't know which PCB tracks have to be shortened and the 'jumper' J2 doesn't exist. There is a JP2, but that seems to be no jumper to me. I have made a photograph of the PCB tracks under the DIMMs. Would you please be so kind to give me a clue what to do (referring to that picture)? • ssl problems between two tomcat servers

  I've got one tomcat 7 server(kind of like a web server) trying to talk to a tomcat 6 server(acting as a document server on another machine) over ssl and keep getting this error java.security.cert.CertificateException: No name matching rarity64 found. Where rarity64 is the name of the document server. I've tried exporting keys from both tomcats keystores and importing them into the others keystores using java keytool. I've even tried adding them to the other machines cacerts keystore. I've also used internet explorer to import both keys into the other machine. But nothing I try works. If it matters the real webserver is IIS 7.5, which the tomcat "webserver" talks too with arr, and they don't use SSL. But the problem seems to between the two tomcat servers

• Saving backup files automatically in (g)Vim after saving a file.

  I had a problem with my gVim. I lost some important modifications after I plugged on my machine after a hibernating process. To avoid this kind of problem, I would like to know if it's possible to add something in my .vimrc (or a plugin) that automatically backups all saving made to my files. Disk space is not an issue, I can delete these files after. I'm already using set backup set backupdir=~/.backup/vim set directory=~/.swap/vim This creates a myfile.extension~ in my .backup/vim. ...but I would like this configuration to add ~ to first save, ~0 to second, ~1 to third, ~2 to fourth, and so on - something that keeps copies from all modifications I made to a file. Is this possible? Do you know if there's a plugin for this?

• How can I make windows not mount a drive when it is plugged in?

  Due to my employer's IT policy, I'm not allowed to have any kind of MP3 playing software on my computer. I do however like to plug my iPod into my computer to keep the battery charged during working hours. Normally, I plug the iPod in, Windows mounts the drive, then I have to go in and eject the drive so I can run my iPod normally while still keeping it charged. Is there anyway I can keep Windows from mounting the drive (and this drive only, I still use my USB flash drive a lot) from auto-mounting? Update: Maybe this is more of an iPod issue, but specifically I would like for the iPod to not display the "Do not disconnect" message when plugged in.

• Why would one server be sending DUP ACK packets to one PC, which is responding with HTTP RST packets?

  I'm not a network profressional, so please excuse any wrong language. I was debugging why my DNS traffic was a constant 160Kbps on our corporate network. I opened up a wireshark trace, and I see one PC of a coworker broadcasting HTTP [RST] packets to one of our DMZ servers at the rate of 1000 a second. He restarted his machine, and as soon as it went offline, the server started broadcasting [DUP] [ACK] packets, until he came back online. It then resumed the HTTP [RST] packets. Apparently this server has been doing this kind of behavior since it went live. I believe it did this with a printer and an access point as well. Can anyone explain why this behavior is occurring? Any solutions? The initial research was done because there have been "bandwidth issues" and I wonder if this is contributing.

  My application is similar to a reminder service that reminds users of events that they scheduled. I'm sending emails to users through a PHP script. I'm not sending one email to multiple recipients. Each recipient receives a different message. I plan to use cron jobs every minute and expect the application to send roughly 200 individual emails in 1 hour (for a small user base that may grow). I don't have hosting experience with this type of application. I plan to start on a shared host and move up in the future to vps or dedicated. Most shared hosts that I looked into allow 50-100 emails per hour with delays between mailings. Please kindly inform me what I should look for in web hosts for this kind of application.

• Windows Command queue?

  i'm thinking if does exist some kind of software that can put in a queue a bunch of windows commands... for example i can say to first copy some file somewhere, then rename those, then delete the old files, then edit one of them etc.... without waiting the effective execution of any of those passages.... this could be useful when copying big files that take a lot and i don't want to sit in front of the computer keeping the eyes on the progress bar... does exist anything like this?

• Windows 8 freezes on startup when intel VT-d is enabled

  I don't know what to make of this situation: Windows 8 freezes after about 3 seconds after booting to the log in screen. The only way i have been able to avoid the freeze, is if i set VT-d disabled VT-d enabled, but Nvidia drivers uninstalled (running on integrated graphics) VT-d enabled, Nvidia drivers installed, Hyper-V feature enabled My goal is to get Windows 8 running with VMWare (ie. Hyper-V has to stay disabled), VT-d and the latest NVidia drivers. Specs: 32 GB of ram Intel Core i7-2760QM NVidia Quadro 1000M Intel 520 SSD 480GB Maybe somebody has experience with this kind of a situation ?

• How can I access my desktop computer from my Android phone?

  Is it possible to access a computer connected to the internet through an Android phone? (the internet goes through the phone by tethering) I want to use ssh to connect to the computer (from a different computer in the same network), but I am not able to access the computer. Is it possible to portforward, use some kind of transparent proxy or to use DMZ? My phone is rooted and I have Cyanogenmod installed and I can use iptables. EDIT: The changed title completely changed the question! My setup is the following: I have an android phone connected to a computer through the usb cable tethering internet from the phone, I wanted to ssh into the computer behind the android phone from another computer in the same network as the android phone. This was not possible, because the android phone creates a separate network for the connected computer, effectively shielding it from any incoming signals. It turned out to be quite simple to fix by just using iptables.

• Application running as a service is not able to create the same number of processes as when it runs

  I have a Windows application which creates up to 35 processes and it's working OK when it's running from cmd. But when it is executed as a service on the same machine it is able to create only 20 processes and all other are killed because of some kind of resource exhaustion problem. The problem is persistent on one Windows 2003 server but not reproducible on other servers.   I maintain this teapot: It returns a 418 error when it is pinged, and it is pinged regularly by people arriving from the relevant Wikipedia page. (For those interested, and there appear to be a few of you, the relevent story is here) It sits on a shelf in my office in the Computer Science department of a university and the support guys were kind enough to give it a dedicated IP address some years ago. My contract is coming to an end in the next few weeks and it's occurred to me that I'm going to have to do something with the teapot. I'd like to take it home but I have no clue how to explain to my home broadband supplier that I want a dedicated IP address coming to my house so that people can ping a teapot. Is there a reasonable way of having a server on a shelf in my house that people can ping via an IP address? What search terms can I use to find a solution to this problem?

• Imagemagick/File upload abuse causing my memory errors

  I had been running out of memory on my server lately and I noticed some individuals uploading the same "file" over and over in quick succession which locks up my instance of mini_magick. Eventually the morgify gets stuck in an infinite look. I've taken care of it by having a daemon watch the morgify process if it get's out of control, but was wondering if there was a better solution You can see the same *.gif being uploading in quick succession. I tried downloading this file too, and it isn't even a gif. I don't know what it is (I can't open it). Anyone experience this kind of exploit before?

• How do I define multiple urls for svn project?

  I am working on a project in mixed environment (win, cygwin, linux) which is on a "shared ntfs drive". I am the sole user there for this project is not really duplicated for multiple users. The main issue I am facing is that the original svn project import was done with a cygwin path like "/cygdrive/z/path to svn project". Now when I am on win svn or linux svn this does not work with svn since such paths do not exists for those versions. Is there a way to define more than one path for the svn import, like maybe some kind of configuration that i can use to fire on the command line? thanks

• Disabling the shell of user "daemon" (/bin/false)

  on a Linux system there are lot's of users by default: daemon, bin, sys, games, etc. According to my /etc/passwd most of these users have a shell assigned (/bin/sh) which seems some kind of insecure to me. My naive thinking would say: Only give those users a shell that may login to the server. Is my thinking wrong? If not completely wrong: Can I disable the shell for "daemon" and "www-data" without having side effects (e.g. the system wont start or the Apache PHP cannot excute system calls)? • need help from some professional how to redirect old or invalid url

  I recently upgraded a site and almost all URLs have changed. I have redirected all of them (or so I hope) but it may be possible that some of them have slipped by me. Is there a way to somehow catch all invalid URLs and send the user to a certain page and somehow know what URL the person came from so I could log this, and fix those? • How do shared hosting servers keep executing code from crossing accounts?

  I am kind of curious, how does a hosting server support multiple users with php but keep each user away from the other code? The 'easy' solution i thought were file permissions. So every user can have www-data belong to their group and the server would have executing access but the users cant access the others file. But then i realize the user running the php would be www-data who has permission to read everyones data. So how does a shared host prevent this from happening? PS: I personally use nginx (with fastcgi php). But i am somewhat familiar on how apache works.

I've already gotten 2-step instructions on how to get rid of the extraneous account: a) use an MS tool called delprof.msi b) manually delete the former users files in Documents & Settings. But I guess my original question was too complex -- kind of like a bill in Congress. • USB 3.0 Device not detected in Windows 8

  About my setup: Windows 8 64-bit. X79-UD3 Motherboard. Latest Windows 8 USB 3.0 Drivers from motherboard manufacturer website. All right so device manager detects my USB 3.0 ports, so all is well there. However when I plug in my external USB 3.0 hard drive, windows doesn't even make a beep; the hard drive is not picked up by device manager at all. The SAME thing happens with Ubuntu 12.10 BUT adding PCI=nomsi (as a workaround) to the Grub command line of the Ubuntu boot option makes Ubuntu 12.10 detect my external hard drive. I also have a few other doubts, if you guys would be kind enough to answer them that include: Should XHCI hand-off in the UEFI bios be enabled or disabled for Windows 8? The difference between XHCI hand-off and EHCI hand-off and what are it's effects on USB 3.0 functionality? And last but not least how can I get Windows 8 to recognize my external hard drive when Ubuntu 12.10 (after the Grub workaround) works fine?

• Windows 7 hangs after longer inactivity of user

  I have serveral PCs running Windows 7 in different falvors (32- / 64-bit / Professional / Ultimate / ATI / Nvidia) - they all have one problem in common... ...if I don't work on any of them for a longer time and the screen goes off as it should be (all default settings!) they sometimes go into some kind of sleep mode where I get to see the desktop or whatever I did before leaving after moving the mouse or pressing a key - but nothing reacts for a different amount of time from serveral seconds to serveral minutes! Any hint that helps solving this anoying problem would be very welcome ;-)

  Got a simple scenario with two web servers for redundancy and to scale. But how do I make a two web-server setup fully redundant? I can think of two solutions; two web servers, one load balancer spreading the load. one extra machine for the load balancer. but how will the load balancer be redundant? two machines, each running the web server AND running a load balancer, spreading the load over. have a DNS entry point to both of the machines. no extra machines needed for load balancing. How do you guys normally solve this kind of problem?
