  • How to setup Mercurial on Mac OS X 10.5.8 for remote access

    Hello I have a stable hackintosh box running 10.5.8 at home with py 2.5.1 and mercurial 1.5.2 setup successfully. Now I do not have any ports opened from this box and the associated router nor do I have any web servers running on this system. What are the steps that I have to take to setup this machine to be a remotely available as a mercurial repository? Thank you folks.

  • Browser pollution / Pop Up request

    From time to time, when I browse the internet , after entering a site's URL , I get a warning message that a pop up has been blocked , then a question mark and a set of numbers appends itself after the URL. It doesn't matter what site I want to navigate to, it can be a site I have developed, a well know site like drupal.org for instance. Here's what happens: enter url: example.com warning: pop up blocked url change to: example.com/?1347628900 After checking the pop up ( which of course turns out to be an unwanted ad ), i deducted that the request and the pop up were linked. This has never happened to me before, I'm not sure how this got started, how can I get rid of this? Clearing the cache , cookies etc... doesn't solve the issue. I'm using a Macbook Pro OS10.6.7 , Chrome 13.0.782.24 beta. Thanks in advance for any tips!

  • Replicate From OpenDJ to OpenLDAP?

    I am considering retiring some of our older OpenDJ LDAP servers and replacing with OpenLDAP. (seems to be more widely supported) I am wondering if it's possible to replicate directly from OpenDJ to OpenLDAP as an interim solution to remove the OpenDJ slaves and then flip the master over later. Is LDAP replication implementation specific or more general? I guess I'll have to just go give it a try, but I was looking for advice from someone who's been down this road.

  • My iPhone is stuck at screen with USB cable and iTunes logo

    I just tried updating the iPhone's firmware, and things went haywire. iTunes informed the update had failed and linked me to this page. The iPhone is stuck on the image from the top of that page. I held down the sleep and home buttons until it turned off and turned it back on, and then went through the iPhone's 'restore' mode. It then error'd again and I'm stuck back with the logos on the iPhone. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks

  • Methodologies for performance-testing a WAN link

    We have a pair of new diversely-routed 1Gbps Ethernet links between locations about 200 miles apart. The 'client' is a new reasonably-powerful machine (HP DL380 G6, dual E56xx Xeons, 48GB DDR3, R1 pair of 300GB 10krpm SAS disks, W2K8R2-x64) and the 'server' is a decent enough machine too (HP BL460c G6, dual E55xx Xeons, 72GB, R1 pair of 146GB 10krpm SAS disks, dual-port Emulex 4Gbps FC HBA linked to dual Cisco MDS9509s then onto dedicated HP EVA 8400 with 128 x 450GB 15krpm FC disks, RHEL 5.3-x64). Using SFTP from the client we're only seeing about 40Kbps of throughput using large (2GB) files. We've performed server to 'other local server' tests and see around 500Mbps through the local switches (Cat 6509s), we're going to do the same on the client side but that's a day or so away. What other testing methods would you use to prove to the link providers that the problem is theirs?

    I realize for single applications - the application itself has to be designed to take advantage of multiple cores. But what about executing many different applications simultaneously? On my development machine at an average instance, I run multiple servers (a database server, a web server), multiple instance of IDEs (either Visual Studio or NetBeans), Web-browser with multiple tabs (in Chrome, each tab is a process on its own), FTP client, SSH client etc. Does having a multi-core system improve the ability to run multiple applications simultaneously?

The most recent advice I have been given is to install both CSF and Bastille on my server (used to serve a consumer-facing ecommerce site and act as the business' email server), but my understanding was that both of these tools were an abstraction layer above netfilter / iptables. Will installing both packages cause any conflicts, or do they play well together?

  • Modifying the initrd.img to run additional binaries in a PXE booted RHEL 6

    I am trying to add additional automation to our existing RHEL 6 (or Oralce's implementation thereof) PXE install process by running a script in the %pre section of my kickstart config that call hpacucli, HP's raid device configuration binary. My approach has been to modify the PXE served initrd.img. I've unpacked the initrd.img and copied in the required libraries, binaries, and scripts but when the system boots using the modified initrd.img, the modified /lib (and /lib_64) are moved aside to /lib_old and /lib is linked to the /mnt/runtime/lib. How can I change this configuration so that the /lib is not moved (unlikely) or required libraries are available in the runtime /mnt/runtime/lib? To test and confirm this I've been able to get the install process to move to the 6th virtual console, which allows me to see errors, and then open a shell (a useful debugging mechanism). %pre exec /dev/tty6 2 /dev/tty6 chvt 6 /bin/sh

  • Cable management between multiple racks

    I am in the planning phase of re-cabling our 5 racks in one of our offices and I would like to ask for some guidance on how you go, or would go about managing cables that goes between racks. In our situation we have 5 racks where the furthest to the right is our main patch panel for 300 floor ports. The rack next to it is our main comms rack where main switches and ISP routers are located. the other 3 racks next to the comms rack then all need to connect back to the main comms rack. I am not sure if a 48 port patch panel in each rack would be any good for this scenario? mainly because i am not sure this can be linked back to the main switch with only 1 cable. Would a 48 port switch in each rack be better as you can uplink those back to main switch? Or should we just run cables between racks back to the main switch? Hope someone can offer some guidiance. E.g. get a list of files, each line contains linked pairs, or triplets, etc. I understand more or less how to do it, one needs to create a dictionary keyed by inode for all files/directories on a filesystem, exclude "." and ".." links, and then indodes with more than one name are hardlinks... But I hope that maybe a ready-made solution exists, or someone already wrote such a script.

    I have a exim4 setup as SMTP. My user naming schema is to name all mail users for this server as m001, m002, m003, ... and then redirect to a real e-mail address with virtual domains. How can I allow my users to authenticate with exim to send mail using either their system user name (m001) or the email address ([email protected])? User login information for m001 are stored in linux system files (passwd, shadow). They are linked thru entries in a virtual address table for each domain that this server can serve: # /etc/exim4/virtual/example.com m001: [email protected] m002: [email protected] m003: [email protected] The same can be applied to qpopper ?

  • Weird IIS with Windows Authentication + IE problem

    I have a website running on IIS and using Windows Authentication. All users that are configured to get access to the site are form a AD domain (not local users). In the properties of a Website, I have set to use the AD domain as the realm. Now, when using Firefox, Safari or Chrome - Everything is fine. When the user tries to open the site, he get's the login box. he enters simply "username" and "password" (let's pretend that it's an actual login and password :P) and he get's into the site. When using IE, however, things get nasty. When the user tries to open the site - he get's the login box. User enters the "username" and "password" again, but those get rejected! And when the second time login box pops up - it has the username filled in as "web-server-domain-name\username" which is wrong, because web-server-domain-name is not the domain where all users reside (it's "ad-domain"). I've spent days trying to figure out what's going on... Note, that if I manually enter "ad-domain\username" - I get accepted into the site without problems. So, my guess is that IE sends wrong username if domain is not specified. Anyway, IE is the only browser that triggers this behavior! Is it possible to do a server-side fix? Maybe it's possible to somehow auto-map the users to AD users? If it's not solvable server-side - is there a client-side fix for this? Thank you. PS: I'm more of a programmer than a sys-admin, so configuring servers isn't the strong side of mine... :P UPDATE: @Evan: Yes, "Digest authentication for Windows domain servers" is also enabled. @Eric: IIS version is 6.0. The authentication methods enabled are: Integrated and digest - all other methods are disabled. As for the security log. I looked at it, when doing "username" and "password" login in Chrome/Firefox and when doing "ad-domain\username" and "password" login from IE - the generated log messages are the same (I see no difference, anyway). When entering "username" and "password" I don't see any errors in the security (or any other) log, so can't tell what method it's trying to use. UPDATE 2: As suggested by Eric in the comments - I played around with Fiddler... While playing with it, I noticed, that when "username" and "password" is entered in FF and IE - the "Authorization" header value (encrypted) sent by IE is longer (almost two times) than one sent by FF. I tried to disable Windows Integrated authentication and only leave the Digest enabled - that fixed the problem (meaning, IE used the right realm just like other browsers), but that caused bazillion other problems with my site, because with Digest - user impersonation on the server doesn't work (that causes problems, when connecting to database etc). Any ideas?

But the bucket we use is in US, and there seem to be no tool to move whole bucket content to different bucket. There is also problem on how to synchronize the data later on when we switch to EU bucket, the data that will be created meanwhile while the migration was running.

  • Is it possible to rsync your web site to another backup server and use the same .htaccess files?

    I am trying to use rsync to replicate all the files from one web server to another server that could act as a backup if the first one went down. The problem I am having is that the .htaccess file requires the AuthUserFile to have the fully quallified path to the .htpasswd file and I cannot make the paths the same on the two machines. Does anyone know how I might use the same .htaccess file on two different servers? Thanks for any help that can be provided.

  • Alternate way to create a clone of a UNIX System

    THE STORY: (If you don't like to read much, down below is the question :) ) Where I work we have two HP RP2470 servers same hardware same number of hard drives same everything :). One of them is a production server and runs HP-UX 11.00. The poor ba***rd hasn't been turned off for years and now I have to make a clone of it on the other server - just in case, for redundancy. The problem is simple (or not simple) as I have to make the the other server exactly the same. However the old version of OS (UX 11.00 is a history now) and the old software running on it, have made my task almost impossible. On the production server there is also a cloning/recover utility Ignite-UX. I tried many times to create a recovery tape with it. Then when I load the tape on the backup server, it succeeds with the loading of the tape (no errors no warnings) but on the next restart it fails to load the OS :S and drops into HP`s ISL prompt. --- THE QUESTION: Is there an alternate way to create a clone of the Unix System? The environment is: 1. 2x HP RP2470 Servers (non-Intel), same hardware, same number od HDDs (two each of them) same everything. 2. OS running: HP-UX 11.00 The production server has to be cloned without downtime - sadly :( as I hope that they will reconsider on this one For example (like on Windows platforms), if you try to copy an entire HDD with Windows inside on another HDD, and then put that HDD on another PC it will still work, as long as the hardware is the same. Can I do something like that with a Unix system? Can I somehow COPY the contents of the entire HDD, put those on another HDD, and then just load the HDD into the other server? (If you haven't read the story the servers are exactly the same) Will it work? Can it be done with ordinary commands like cp or dump or something like that?   • Firewall GPO not applying despite being enumerated by gpresult

    I have a need to open up the admin$ share on all of my domain's client PC's and I am trying to do so using group policy. I defined computer policy for Windows Firewall with Advanced Security in a policy object linked to the appropriate container and added the appropriate rules. However, they are not being applied! I feel like I have tried all of the obvious steps: I've checked gpresult and the resulting set of policy is the way that I would expect it to look. I've gpupdate /force and gpupdate /sync on a few client computers, but no matter what I do they don't seem to respond to my changes. I know that other computer policies in the GPO are being applied so it is strange that these are not. I have also disabled exceptions on clients in the firewall GPO, but that doesn't seem to be applying either. Here is a screenshot of the firewall.cpl from a client: Basically, although other options in the same GPO ARE applied for computer policy, the firewall settings seem to be ignored.
