• Using Windows Azure In Europe and the middel East

  Hi All, I've built my application in .net and sql server 2008. Having looking for a hosting soultion I stumpled upon windows azure. I saw that currently its only availabe in the US. Can I use the service if I live outside of the US? If I upload my website up there and people try entering, will people from outside of the US be blocked? Sorry for posting an unrelated program question. I am not receiving an answer anywhere else, and I can see that there are serveral question regarding azure which are not program related here. • How do you do real time document tracking?

  I was considering diff Document Tracking options and came across DocTracking.com. DocTracking.com allows you to upload documents (PDF Word etc) and adds some kind of invisible tracking to it and returns the document to you which can then be used just like you would use the document otherwise. This tracking tells you when your documents were opened, who opened them (IP), geo-location of opening if they are re-opened or forwarded, what pages were read and how long it was read for, what was printed. Any leads on how this could be done would be appreciated.

  Is there some way to change Rails environments mid-way through a test? Or, alternately, what would be the right way to set up a test suite that can start up Rails in one environment, run the first half of my test in it, then restart Rails in another environment to finish the test? The two environments have separate databases. Some necessary context: I'm writing a Rails plugin that allows multiple installations of a Rails app to communicate with each other with user assistance, so that a user without Internet access can still use the app. They'll run a local version of an app, and upload their work to the online app by saving a file to a thumbdrive and taking it to an Internet cafe. The plugin adds two special environments to Rails: "offline-production" and "offline-test". I want to write functional tests that involve both the "test" and "offline-test" environments, to represent the main online version of the app and the local offline version of the app respectively.

• Managing multiple blogs (wordpress) from one control panel

  This is the deal: I have more than one blog (not running yet) that I want to install in subfolders for one of my domains. Each blog will obviously have its own look and feel and content. I could just have a set of control panels and administer them individually or I could somehow manage them form a single control panel. Issues I've come across are: Some plugins offer this functionality while suppressing other features like auto draf saving, in-post category and tag creation, image upload etc. I'm not necessarily looking for a ready solution, more like some guidance on how to approach this particular problem in the best possible manner. I'm looking for a fully working scenario, not some plugin that allows me to more or less simulate the one-blog-administration experience.

• Serving large generated files using Google App Engine?

  Hiya, Presently I have a GAE app that does some offline processing (backs up a user's data), and generates a file that's somewhere in the neighbourhood of 10 - 100 MB. I'm not sure of the best way to serve this file to the user. The two options I'm considering are: Adding some code to the offline processing code that 'spoofs' it as a form upload to the blob store, and going thru the normal blobstore process to serve the file. Having the offline processing code store the file somewhere off of GAE, and serving it from there. Is there a much better approach I'm overlooking? I'm guessing this is functionality that isn't well suited to GAE. I had thought of storing in the datastore as db.Text or Dd.Blob but there I encounter the 1 MB limit. Any input would be appreciated,

• Breaking change October: Status waiting when create custom audience with add user data file?

  In my system, I create a custom audience - data file - mobile advertiser ids with 10k user. After I created it, I refreshed API link to get information about the audience which I've just created: https://graph.facebook.com/act_xxx/customaudiences?fields=id,account_id,name,lookalike_spec,retention_days,subtype,approximate_count,rule,delivery_status,operation_status,data_source,permission_for_actions&limit=500&access_token=xxx. (After breaking change in October 2014, status field not return. So I see operation_status) I see that: "operation_status": { "code": 410, "description": "No file has been uploaded for this audience, or the previous upload has failed due to system error. Please try uploading the file again." } But after about 10s, I refresh again, and operation_status change to: "operation_status": { "code": 200, "description": "Normal" } My quetions is: how to check this audience's status is waiting ( uploading file) , like when I create on facebook not my our system.   I have an application where users are allowed to upload images to the server. Our Web Server is a windows 2008 server and we have a site (images.mysite.com) that points to a shared drive on a unix box. The code used to do the uploading is C# 3.5. The system currently supports a workflow where after a threshold is met a new subfolder can be generated. The question we have is how many files and/or subfolders can you have in a single folder before there is a degredation in performance - in serving the images up through IIS 7 and reading/writing through code?

• How can I sqldump a huge database?

  SELECT count(*) from table gives me 3296869 rows. The table only contains 4 columns, storing dropped domains. I tried to dump the sql through: $backupFile = $dbname . date("Y-m-d-H-i-s") . '.gz'; $command = "mysqldump --opt -h $dbhost -u $dbuser -p $dbpass $dbname | gzip > $backupFile"; However, this just dumps an empty 20 KB gzipped file. My client is using shared hosting so the server specs and resource usage aren't top of the line. I'm not even given ssh access or access directly to the database so I have to make queries through PHP scripts I upload via FTP ( SFTP isn't an option, again ). Is there some way I can perhaps sequentially download portions of it, or pass an argument to mysqldump that will optimize it? I came across http://jeremy.zawodny.com/blog/archives/000690.html which mentions the -q flag and tried that but it didn't seem to do anything differently.

• How does one record audio from a Javascript based webapp?

  I'm trying to write a web-app that records WAV files (eg: from the user's microphone). I know Javascript alone can not do this, but I'm interested in the least proprietary method to augment my Javascript with. My targeted browsers are Firefox for PC and Mac (so no ActiveX). Please share your experiences with this. I gather it can be done with Flash (but not as a WAV formated file). I gather it can be done with Java (but not without code-signing). Are these the only options? @dominic-mazzoni I'd like to record the file as a WAV because because the purpose of the webapp will be to assemble a library of good quality short soundbites. I estimate upload will be 50 MB, which is well worth it for the quality. The app will only be used on our intranet. Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine. Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off". Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

  My goal is to upload a image(.jpg or .png)from client's folder to tomcat6 server through hessian protocol. And do image processing using opencv on server, then return the image back to client. • Is SHA sufficient for checking file duplication? (sha1_file in PHP)

  Suppose you wanted to make a file hosting site for people to upload their files and send a link to their friends to retrieve it later and you want to insure files are duplicated where we store them, is PHP's sha1_file good enough for the task? Is there any reason to not use md5_file instead? For the frontend, it'll be obscured using the original file name store in a database but some additional concerns would be if this would reveal anything about the original poster. Does a file inherit any meta information with it like last modified or who posted it or is this stuff based in the file system? Also, is using a salt frivolous since security in regards of rainbow table attack mean nothing to this and the hash could later be used as a checksum? One last thing, scalability? initially, it's only going to be used for small files a couple of megs big but eventually... Edit 1: The point of the hash is primarily to avoid file duplication, not to create obscurity.

• Getting ftp_put progress

  I have a php script on a web server that uploads a file to another remote server via ftp_put. How can I display the current upload progress to the user? The only similar system I've seen is for file uploads from the user, with ajax requests to check the local size of the uploaded file on the server. The equivalent system would be ajax requests to the web server, that then checked file sizes on the remote server and returned that data to the user's clientscript. This seems horribly inefficient to me. Is there a better way?

The JVM was launched with debug options so this may be because the JVM is currently suspended by a debugger. Any future timeouts during this JVM invocation will be silently ignored.   I would like to dig into developing for jailbroken devices, just to test what the device could do. I would like, for instance, to alter the ipod music based on geo-location, so i have to program a new daemon that runs in background and fetch gps informations at regular interlavs and then make something with them. Longitude, longitude, for instance, does exactly this, even when the device is locked, and then upload the informations on google latidude. I have some experience as an iphone developer, but i'm not sure on where to find documentation to accomplish such a task. I know about the books "iphone open application development" and "the iphone developer's coockbook", but i don't own them and i'm not sure they have what i'm looking for. Any advice on this?

• headers already sent displays after moving files from one server to another

  hey there! I have a project running on dreamhost hosting and it's working fine, but since DH has been getting really slow I'm moving the project to my new dedicated server. The thing is that after I move all of my file over to the new dedicated (ubuntu 8.4) I get see warnings all over the place telling me that the headers had been already sent. The first thing I tried was moving the files via FTP: download to my machine, upload to server - Didn't worked Second try was tar.gz the folder on the first server and untar it on the new one, didn't worked either I tried chaing enconding to ANSI and they start working, however most of my files contain accents so ANSI is not an option for all my files i need UTF8 Any ideas on how to fix this? I'm sure it must be some sort of config
