• Linux Kernel Module - Creating proc file - proc_root undeclared error

  I copy and paste code from this URL for creating and reading/writing a proc file using a kernel module and get the error that proc_root is undeclared. This same example is on a few sites so I assume it works. Any ideas why I'd get this error? Does my makefile need something different. • Efficient 4x4 matrix inverse (affine transform)

  Hi, I was hoping someone can point out an efficient formula for 4x4 affine matrix transform. Currently my code uses cofactor expansion and it allocates a temporary array for each cofactor. It's easy to read, but it's slower than it should be. Note, this isn't homework and I know how to work it out manually using 4x4 co-factor expansion, it's just a pain and not really an interesting problem for me. Also I've googled and came up with a few sites that give you the formula already (http://www.euclideanspace.com/maths/algebra/matrix/functions/inverse/fourD/index.htm). However this one could probably be optimized further by pre-computing some of the products. I'm sure someone came up with the "best" formula for this at one point or another? Thanks.

• Determining your websites color scheme

  One of the biggest issues I have, from a UI standpoint, when building a new website is figuring out what colors I will use and of those colors, do they actually work well together. I found this site that has really helped me out and I figured I would share it with all of you and also get some responses back about either sites similar or other ways that you get/figure out your color schemes. Here is the site that I currently use: http://kuler.adobe.com/ With Adobe Kuler, you can chose a base color and it will suggest 5 colors, including your color, that go well with one another. You can, of course, modify the colors it chooses. Also,one of the main features I use, is the image color matching. You can upload an image and it will determine a color scheme based on the colors of the image. So if you have a logo and want to use the colors of the logo, then this works perfectly for you. • Open Source/Free Social Networking SDK

  I am currently gathering some technology requirements for a site that will be a social network based. I don't want to re-invent the wheel so i am looking for some type of SDK or collection of tools that can provide me with a way of creating/managing a social network. I understand that no framework will probably fit my exact needs so I am also looking for a flexible/extensible framework. An example extension point would be allowing the user to provide sub networks, maybe a global network that could be sub classified as work and friends. Beyond that it would also be nice to somehow be able to import contacts from other networking sites (Facebook, Linked In, etc). My current technology suite will more than likely consist of the following: IIS 7.0 WCF Data Services SQL Server 2005/2008 ASP.NET front end. So my two questions are 1) C# Open Source Social Network SDK 2) C# Open Source Social Netowrk APIs (facebook, linked in, etc) If there is any more information you may need please let me know.

• use jsonp to get xml cross domain

  I am trying to read xml into a webpage from another server, and I assume that my problem is Same-Origin Policy, and therefore a cross domain problem. I have a bit of googling and it seems that jsonp is the way forward. Based on some examples I found here on stackoverflow and another sites, this is what I have, and it does not "hit" the server with the xml. • Using XAMPP Install of MySQL with Netbeans 6.8/MySQL Workbench

  All, For all of this I am using Mac OSX Snow Leopard. I have happily used XAMPP to develop PHP backed sites in the past with no problems(as you'd expect for such a simple to set up package). I am now trying to set up this MySQL install in Netbeans 6.8 (for now just trying to get a sample database backed webapp to run). My issue is that even though MySQL has been started I cannot connect to it at 127.0.0.1 on port 3306 (which it is set up to use). I have read that the issue is that XAMPP holds MySQl.sock in /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/... whereas MySQL Workbench and Netbeans expects to find it in /tmp/MySQL.sock. Is this correct? I've tried to set up a symbolic link from /tmp to the xmapp directory but this doesn't appear to have changed anything. Is there anything else I can try/anything that I am missing?

• Can't find my.cnf file so I can enable InnoDB - is there another way?

  Hey all, I am trying to Magento running on a share server, and am having difficulty. When I look at the engines in PHPmyAdmin, I get InnoDB DISABLED. So I look in /etc/, and there is no my.cnf file. There is a ftpquota and a .boxtrapper file, but nothing else. I know I can probably create a new one, but this is a server that hosts a lot of sites. I'm afraid I will mess someone up. So is there a way to maybe create a my.cnf file that only enable InnoDB and doesn't effect anything else? Or is there another way to enable it?

• open_basedir vs sessions

  On a virtual hosting server I have the open_basedir set to .:/path/to/vhost/web:/tmp:/usr/share/pear for each virtual host. I have a client who's running WordPress and he's complaining about open_basedir errors thus: PHP WARNING: file_exists() [function.file-exists]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/var/lib/php/session/sess_42k7jn3vjenj43g3njorrnrmf2) is not within the allowed path(s): (.:/path/to/vhost/web:/tmp:/usr/share/pear) So the PHP session save_path isn't included in open_basedir but sessions across all sites on the server seems to be working fine apart from in this intermittent instance. I thought that perhaps the default session handler ignored open_basedir and this warning was caused by WP accessing the session file directly. However from what I can see PHP 5.2.4 introduced open_basedir checking to the session.save_path config: http://www.php.net/ChangeLog-5.php#5.2.4 (I am on PHP 5.2.13). Any ideas?

• Multi page forms on ASP.NET MVC

  Hi, I have decided to use ASP.NET MVC to develop multi page (registration) forms in asp.net. There will be two buttons on each page that allows the user to navigate to the previous and next page. When the user navigates back to a page they recently filled out, the data should be displayed to them. I understand ASP.NET MVC should remain stateless but how should I maintain page information when the user navigates back and forth. Should I? Save the information to a database and retrieve information for each page change? save information to the session? Load all the fields and display only whats's needed with javascript? This registration form is going to be used in multiple sites but with different sets of questions (Some may be the same). IF performance is a main concern, should I avoid generating these forms dynamically? Jay

  I am writing a C# code to find all of our SharePoint Sites that have emails contained in the Email List page. It appears that some of our email messages are SPListItem.ContentType.Name = "Message" and some of our email messages are SPListItem.ContentType.Name = "Discussion" Aside from the confusion, this is forcing my to cycle through mylist.Folders and mylist.Items in two separate loops, so that I don't miss any of the emails. Is this normal? Any idea why this could be happening? There are threads that contains messages of both types.

• django ignoring admin.py

  I am trying to enable the admin for my app. I managed to get the admin running, but I can't seem to make my models appear on the admin page. I tried following the tutorial (here) which says: (Quote) Just one thing to do: We need to tell the admin that Poll objects have an admin interface. To do this, create a file called admin.py in your polls directory, and edit it to look like this: from polls.models import Poll from django.contrib import admin admin.site.register(Poll) (end quote) I added an admin.py file as instructed, and also added the following lines into urls.py: from django.contrib import admin admin.autodiscover() urlpatterns = patterns('', ... (r'^admin/', include(admin.site.urls)), ) but it appears to have no effect. I even added a print 1 at the first line of admin.py and I see that the printout never happens, So I guess django doesn't know about my admin.py. As said, I can enter the admin site, I just don't see anything other than "groups", "users" and "sites". What step am I missing?

• What components of your site do you typically "offload" or embed?

  Here's what I mean. In developing my ASP.NET MVC based site, I've managed to offload a great deal of the static file hosting and even some of the "work". Like so: jQuery for my javascript framework. Instead of hosting it on my site, I use the Google CDN Google maps, obviously "offloaded" - no real work being performed on my server - Google hosted jQueryUI framework - Google CDN jQueryUI CSS framework - Google CDN jQueryUI CSS framework themes - Google CDN So what I'm asking is this, other than what I've got listed... What aspects of your sites have you been able to offload, or embed, from outside services? Couple others that come to mind... OpenAuth - take much of the authentication process work off your site Google Wave - when it comes out, take communication work off of your site

• How do I change apache2 DocumentRoot (default snow leopard install) and not get "You don't have perm

  I'm trying to point DocumentRoot at a directory in my user folder. While I can happily point DocumentRoot at /Library/WebServer/Documents and ~/Sites I keep getting "You don't have permission to access / on this server." when I point it anywhere else. OK, I just found a solution mid-question (stack overflow is just that good) by changing the user/group apache runs under to myuser/admin. I'm sure there must be a better way though. Surely some kind of permissions magic on the directory I'm pointing at?

• Any hosted versions of jQuery that have the 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *' header set?

  I have been working with jQuery recently and ran into a problem where I couldn't include it in a userscript because xmlhttpRequest uses the same origin policy. After further testing I found that most browsers also support the Cross-Origin Resource Sharing access control defined by W3C as a workaround for issues with same origin policy. I tested this by hosting the jQuery script on a local web server that included the Access-Control-Allow-Origin: * http header, which allowed the script to be downloaded using xmlhttpRequest so that it could be included in my userscript. I'd like to use a hosted version of jQuery when releasing the script, but so far testing with tools like http://www.seoconsultants.com/tools/headers I have not found any sites that allow cross-origin access to the jQuery script. • How to get rid of Drupal CSS stylesheets?

  I am trying to accomplish the following. I need to use Drupal 6 as a project requirement, but I want to use it with my own HTML and CSS stylesheets for each node/view/panel etc. The problem is, whatever the theme, I always found that Drupal applies to my HTML content both my CSS stylesheets and the CSS related to the theme chosen. I have also tried, without success, using the stylestripper module (installed in sites/all/modules). No matter what I do, additional CSS stylesheets are applied to my pages, completely destroying my layout. What is the proper way to achieve this? Why stylestripper does not work at all? Is there a completely blank theme available? I have tried basic, mothership, zen etc, but I always see additional CSS stylesheets applied to my pages. This is driving me crazy, Drupal was chosen by someone else for its flexibility. Thank you in advance.

• Web Site in solution where "Rebuild Solution" compile succeeds cannot launch debugger

  I have a solution that includes a Web Site (created using the web site template not the web app project template - converting isn't an option, btw). When I rebuild all, the compile succeeds, but strangely displays 3 errors, all of which are "Could not get dependencies for project reference 'PROJNAME'". When I try to launch the debugger, I get the "There were build errors." dialogue. Two questions: If I choose the 'Yes' option in the debug error dialogue to run the last successful build, will it run on the code that my Rebuild All just compiled? How do I resolve this issue? I checked this post and am disheartened by my prospects. What is strange, though, is that I added these same projects to a separate web site solution that compiled/debugged fine, removed the test web site and re-added the target website I would like to debug, and it failed in the same manner. • Stop IIS 7 Application Pool from build script

  How can I stop and then restart an IIS 7 application pool from an MSBuild script running inside TeamCity. I want to deploy our nightly builds to an IIS server for out testers to view. I have tried using appcmd like so: appcmd stop apppool /apppool.name:MYAPP-POOL ... but I have run into elevation issues in Windows 2008 that so far have stopped me from being able to run that command from my TeamCity build process because Windows 2008 requires elevation in order to run appcmd. If I do not stop the application pool before I copy my files to the web server my MSBuild script is unable to copy the files to the server. Has anybody else seen and solved this issue when deploying web sites to IIS from TeamCity?

  I have noticed through the process of signing up for various freelance and job seeking or professional network sites that they all want your resume/CV data. And I am really getting tired of copy/pasting this data, especially since I have a website. Is there a standard format or service somewhere that I do not know about for this data? If not, does anyone want to help me build something like this out? I'm thinking a service similar to OpenID that allows you to maintain a central resume to have your data pulled from. No more filling in the same data over and over, and having to maintain the copies on any of the plethora of websites that have that data. Takers?

• Having Problems Getting FreeTTS and JSAPI Working

  I have a simple project idea based off of FreeTTS and the JSAPI (Java Speech API) I've downloaded and unpacked FreeTTS and run their build script. Then tried compiling my code linking in the lib directory into the class path like this: javac -cp /home/travis/Desktop/freetts-1.2/lib HelloUnleashedReader.java Which then compiles to java bytecode just fine. However when I run: java HelloUnleashedReader I get the following error: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax/speech/EngineModeDesc Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated as there are many sites around the net discussing problems with getting it to work but not many that discuss their solution.

  I've looked at sites and MSDN documentation but I still don't understand the last parameter of PostMessage(). On forums in which people ask how to use PostMessage, people reply with one of two implementations: PostMessage(WindowHandle, WM_KEYDOWN, KeyCode, MapVirtualKey(KeyCode, 0) << 16); PostMessage(WindowHandle, WM_KEYDOWN, KeyCode, 0); What's the difference? Why can the last parameter be left as 0 in some instances, but has to be 'shifted' and all that in other instances? Just a quick question. Don't need essay replies (although they would be much appreciated). Any insight is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
