  • Converting from RGB to HSL with Objective C

    - by treeba
I'm quite new to objective c but have been programming for a while. I started creating a function that would convert from RGB to HSL and back again but I get a feeling it is way too long and headed in the wrong direction. Does anyone know of a simple way to perform this conversion?

  • How does RoR's reloading content on refresh work?

    - by aharon
RoR allows you to, as long as the env is development, change parts of the your application code and then just refresh the browser--and everything is changed, without having to restart Mongrel. How does this work, and where in the Rails codebase is this done? (Or, alternatively, is there some easy way to do this with Rack+Mongrel?) Thanks so much.

I have a text file that is pretty long. Any easy way to "undo" a M-q (fill-paragraph) on a file that was written and saved a while ago? For example, I want to change this: They're coming to take me away, ha-haaa!! They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa To this: They're coming to take me away, ha-haaa!! They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa

  • CodePage ID to CodePage name: GetEncoding equivalent in Delphi?

    - by Steve
Hello all, I'm looking for a Win32 equivalent of the .Net Encoding.GetEncoding Method to be used in Delphi7. What I would like to achieve is to convert a Codepage ID (ie.: 28592) to a Codepage name (iso-8859-2 in this case). I've found a Win32 function called GetCPInfoEx, but that returns a long CodePage name, and I need the short one, like the ones listed on this page: (see Name column) http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.text.encoding.aspx Thank you!

  • C#: File-size format provider

    - by Seb Nilsson
Is there any easy way to create a class that uses IFormatProvider that writes out a user-friendly file-size? public static string GetFileSizeString(string filePath) { FileInfo info = new FileInfo(@"c:\windows\notepad.exe"); long size = info.Length; string sizeString = size.ToString(FileSizeFormatProvider); // This is where the class does its magic... } It should result in strings formatted something like "2,5 MB", "3,9 GB", "670 bytes" and so on.

  • Featureful commercial text editors?

    - by wrp
I'm willing to buy tools if they add genuine value over a FOSS equivalent. One thing I wouldn't mind having is an editor with the power of Emacs, but made more user-friendly. There seem to be several commercial editors out there, but I can't find much discussion of them online. Maybe it's because the kind of people who use commercial software don't have time to do much blogging. ;-) If you have used any, what was your evaluation? I'd especially like to hear how you would compare them to Emacs. I'm thinking of editors like VEDIT, Boxer, Crisp, UltraEdit, SlickEdit, etc. To get things started, I tried EditPad Pro because I needed something on a Win98SE box. I was attracted by its powerful support for regexps, but I didn't use it for long. One annoyance was that find-in-files was only available in a separate product you had to buy. The main problem, though, was stability. It sometimes hung and I lost a few files because it corrupted them while editing. After a couple weeks, I found that I was avoiding using it, so I just uninstalled. Edit: Ah...I need to remove some ambiguity. With reference to Emacs, "power" often means its potential for customization. This malleability comes from having an architecture in which most of the functionality is written in a scripting language that runs on a compiled core. Emacs (with elisp) is by far the most widely known such system among home users, but there have been other heavily used editors such as Freemacs (MINT), JED (S-Lang), XEDIT (Rexx), ADAM (TPU), and SlickEdit (Slick-C). In this case, by "power" I'm not referring to extensibility but to realized features. There are three main areas which I think a commercial text editor might be an improvement over Emacs: Stability The only apps I regularly use on Linux that give me flaky behavior are Emacs, Gedit, and Geany. On Windows, I like the look and features of Notepad++, but I find it extremely unstable, especially if I try to use the plugins. Whatever I happen to be doing, I'm using some text editor practically all day long. If I could switch to an editor that never gave me problems, it would definitely lower my stress level. Tools When I started using Emacs, I searched the manual cover to cover to gleam ideas for clever, useful things I could do with it. I'd like to see lots of useful features for editing code, based on detailed knowledge of what the system can do and the accumulated feedback of users. Polish The rule of threes goes that if you develop something for yourself, it's three times harder to make it usable in-house, and three times harder again to make it a viable product for sale. It's understandable, but free software development doesn't seem to benefit from much usability testing. BTW, texteditors.org is a fantastic resource for researching text editors.

  • Dynamic tab width in a Flex 4 TabBar component with skin

    - by JoriDor
Hi, I have a Flex 4 TabBar component with a custom skin. In this skin, the item renderer is defined with an ButtonBarButton with a custom skin. All the tabs in the itemrenderer have now the same width. The client however wants me to make the tabs width dynamically, so a smaller tab for a smaller label, a bigger one for a long label. Does anybody know how to adjust the width of Tab (ButtonBarButton)? Thanks a million!

  • Android AsyncTask context problem, help!

    - by dnkoutso
I've been working with AsyncTasks in Android and I am dealing with a strange issue. Take a simple example, an Activity with one AsyncTask. The task on the background does not do anything spectacular, it just sleeps for 8 seconds. At the end of the AsyncTask in the onPostExecute() method I am just setting a button visibility status to View.VISIBLE, only to verify my results. Now, this works great until the user decides to change his phones orientation while the AsyncTask is working (within the 8 second sleep window). I understand the Android activity life cycle and I know the activity gets destroyed and recreated. This is where the problem comes in. The AsyncTask is referring to a button and apparently holds a reference to the context that started the AsyncTask in the first place. I would expect, that this old context (since the user caused an orientation change) to either become null and the AsyncTask to throw an NPE for the reference to the button it is trying to make visible. Instead, no NPE is thrown, the asynctask thinks that the button reference is not null, sets it to visible. The result? Nothing is happening on the screen! I have tackled this by keeping and updating the context reference into the AsyncTask. This is cumbersome and prone to leaks. Here's the code: public class Main extends Activity { private Button mButton = null; private Button mTestButton = null; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); mButton = (Button) findViewById(R.id.btnStart); mButton.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener () { @Override public void onClick(View v) { new taskDoSomething().execute(0l); } }); mTestButton = (Button) findViewById(R.id.btnTest); } private class taskDoSomething extends AsyncTask<Long, Integer, Integer> { @Override protected Integer doInBackground(Long... params) { Log.i("LOGGER", "Starting..."); try { Thread.sleep(8000); } catch (InterruptedException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } return 0; } @Override protected void onPostExecute(Integer result) { Log.i("LOGGER", "...Done"); mTestButton.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE); } } } Try executing and while the AsyncTask is working change your phones orientation.

  • How to organize JS files in a Appcelerator Titanium project

    - by tilomitra
Hi all: I have recently started creating an iPhone application using Appcelerator's Titanium. Since the application is essentially all JS, I needed some advice on how I should organize this project. It's becoming very easy to just create long procedural files for each view in the application. Is there a way I can incorporate MVC, or some structure to the project? Thanks, I appreciate it. -Tilo

  • Ho to stop scrolling in a Gallery Widget?

    - by Alexi
    I loaded some images into a gallery. Now I'm able to scroll but once started scrolling the scrolling won't stop. I would like the gallery to just scroll to the next image and then stop until the user does the scroll gesture again. this is my code import android.widget.ImageView; import android.widget.Toast; import android.widget.AdapterView.OnItemClickListener; public class GalleryExample extends Activity { private Gallery gallery; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); gallery = (Gallery) findViewById(R.id.examplegallery); gallery.setAdapter(new AddImgAdp(this)); gallery.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() { public void onItemClick(AdapterView parent, View v, int position, long id) { Toast.makeText(GalleryExample.this, "Position=" + position, Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); } }); } public class AddImgAdp extends BaseAdapter { int GalItemBg; private Context cont; private Integer[] Imgid = { R.drawable.a_1, R.drawable.a_2, R.drawable.a_3, R.drawable.a_4, R.drawable.a_5, R.drawable.a_6, R.drawable.a_7 }; public AddImgAdp(Context c) { cont = c; TypedArray typArray = obtainStyledAttributes(R.styleable.GalleryTheme); GalItemBg = typArray.getResourceId(R.styleable.GalleryTheme_android_galleryItemBackground, 0); typArray.recycle(); } public int getCount() { return Imgid.length; } public Object getItem(int position) { return position; } public long getItemId(int position) { return position; } public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { ImageView imgView = new ImageView(cont); imgView.setImageResource(Imgid[position]); i.setScaleType(ImageView.ScaleType.FIT_CENTER); imgView.setBackgroundResource(GalItemBg); return imgView; } } } and the xmlLayout file <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout android:id="@+id/LinearLayout01" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" > <Gallery xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/examplegallery" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" /> </LinearLayout>

  • The Skyline Problem.

    - by zeroDivisible
I just came across this little problem on UVA's Online Judge and thought, that it may be a good candidate for a little code-golf. The problem: You are to design a program to assist an architect in drawing the skyline of a city given the locations of the buildings in the city. To make the problem tractable, all buildings are rectangular in shape and they share a common bottom (the city they are built in is very flat). The city is also viewed as two-dimensional. A building is specified by an ordered triple (Li, Hi, Ri) where Li and Ri are left and right coordinates, respectively, of building i and Hi is the height of the building. In the diagram below buildings are shown on the left with triples (1,11,5), (2,6,7), (3,13,9), (12,7,16), (14,3,25), (19,18,22), (23,13,29), (24,4,28) and the skyline, shown on the right, is represented by the sequence: 1, 11, 3, 13, 9, 0, 12, 7, 16, 3, 19, 18, 22, 3, 23, 13, 29, 0 The output should consist of the vector that describes the skyline as shown in the example above. In the skyline vector (v1, v2, v3, ... vn) , the vi such that i is an even number represent a horizontal line (height). The vi such that i is an odd number represent a vertical line (x-coordinate). The skyline vector should represent the "path" taken, for example, by a bug starting at the minimum x-coordinate and traveling horizontally and vertically over all the lines that define the skyline. Thus the last entry in the skyline vector will be a 0. The coordinates must be separated by a blank space. If I will not count declaration of provided (test) buildings and including all spaces and tab characters, my solution, in Python, is 223 characters long. Here is the condensed version: B=[[1,11,5],[2,6,7],[3,13,9],[12,7,16],[14,3,25],[19,18,22],[23,13,29],[24,4,28]] # Solution. R=range v=[0 for e in R(max([y[2] for y in B])+1)] for b in B: for x in R(b[0], b[2]): if b[1]>v[x]: v[x]=b[1] p=1 k=0 for x in R(len(v)): V=v[x] if p and V==0: continue elif V!=k: p=0 print "%s %s" % (str(x), str(V)), k=V I think that I didn't made any mistake but if so - feel free to criticize me. EDIT I don't have much reputation, so I will pay only 100 for a bounty - I am curious, if anyone could try to solve this in less than .. lets say, 80 characters. Solution posted by cobbal is 101 characters long and currently it is the best one. ANOTHER EDIT I thought, that 80 characters is a sick limit for this kind of problem. cobbal, with his 46 character solution totaly amazed me - though I must admit, that I spent some time reading his explanation before I partially understood what he had written.

  • Forcing the GC to collect JNI proxy objects

    - by SyBer
Hi. While I do my best to clean JNI objects to free native memory in the end of the usage, there are still some that hang around for a long time, wasting system native memory. Is there any way to force the GC to give priority in collection of these JNI proxies? I mean is there a way to cause GC to concentrate on a particular kind of object, namely the JNI proxies? Thanks.

  • A good web data extraction/screen scraper program?

    - by Taylor
I need to capture product data from a site on a regular basis and wondered if any one knows of a good software program? I've trialed Mozenda but its a monthly subscription and pricey in the long term. Obviously something thats free would be best but I don't mind paying either. Just need a decent program thats reliable and doesn't require much programming knowledge.

  • Problem with delete operation in many to many relation

    - by Alexey Zakharov
Hi, I've got to classes Product and Store which have many to many relation I want deleting of store not to cause deleting of related product And deleting of product not to cause deleting of related store. Currently deleting of entity cause exception due to Foreign Key constraint. Here is this classes and their mapping in fluent hibernate: public class Product { public Product() { this.StoresStockedIn = new List<Store>(); } public virtual string Name { get; set; } public virtual double Price { get; set; } public virtual long ProductID { get; set; } public virtual IList<Store> StoresStockedIn { get; set; } } public class Store { public Store() { this.Products = new List<Product>(); this.Staff = new List<Employee>(); } public virtual string Name { get; set; } public virtual IList<Product> Products { get; set; } public virtual IList<Employee> Staff { get; set; } public virtual long StoreID { get; set; } } public class ProductMap : ClassMap<Product> { public ProductMap() { this.Id(x => x.ProductID); this.Map(x => x.Name); this.Map(x => x.Price); this.HasManyToMany(x => x.StoresStockedIn) .Cascade.None() .Table("StoreProduct"); } public class StoreMap : ClassMap<Store> { public StoreMap() { this.Id(x => x.StoreID); this.Map(x => x.Name); this.HasManyToMany(x => x.Products) .Cascade.None() .Inverse() .Table("StoreProduct"); this.HasMany(x => x.Staff) .Cascade.All() .Inverse(); } } Thanks, Alexey Zakharov

  • Converting local timestamp to UTC timestamp in Java.

    - by fiXedd
I have a milliseconds-since-local-epoch timestamp that I'd like to convert into a milliseconds-since-UTC-epoch timestamp. From a quick glance through the docs it looks like something like this would work: int offset = TimeZone.getDefault().getRawOffset(); long newTime = oldTime - offset; Is there a better way to do this?
