• Android 2.2 AVD: no Quick Search Box?

  I have recently updated my Android SDK to include support for Android 2.2 (API level 8). The app that I'm building integrates with the Quick Search Box (QSB) home screen widget, which I can't seem to find in this version (using both vanilla 2.2 and the Google APIs version). I was kind of excited when they announced that they have improved its functionality, but it seems there's no way for me to observe it. Is this normal? Are others experiencing the same issue? Or is this somehow related to my setup (running Archlinux and installed the Android SDK from the repositories).

• Visual Studio 2010 RTM is not publishing with ClickOnce

  Is anyone using ClickOnce with VS2010? I’m getting the following on publish, when the solution builds fine ... Building WindowsFormsApplication1... Error: Cannot publish because a project failed to build. Have tried everything, new clean project (both windforms and WPF), new temporary key, disabled pre-requisites and played with every publish setting. I was hoping it’d be fixed in final, the same thing happened in RC My 'workaround' at the moment is to use msbuild.exe with a clickonce.proj, along the lines of the following http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/msbuild/thread/40bb7d32-a9ad-40d7-8113-cb3ed2747e69 (wired to an external tool+toolbar button as in hanselman's parallel build blog post)

• Problem installing MySQL gem on Fedora

  When I try rake db:migrate, I get the following error: !!! The bundled mysql.rb driver has been removed from Rails 2.2. Please install the mysql gem and try again: gem install mysql. rake aborted! no such file to load -- mysql And when I try to "gem install mysql" Building native extensions. This could take a while... ERROR: Error installing mysql: ERROR: Failed to build gem native extension. /usr/bin/ruby extconf.rb Can't find header files for ruby. Gem files will remain installed in /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/mysql-2.8.1 for inspection. $ sudo gem install mysql -- --with-mysql-config=/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql_config has also been tried but same error. I'm on a Fedora 10. Help will be much appreciated.Cheers!

  I'm starting a web application that will target Mobile Safari on iPhone/iPod Touch. I'm evaluating the available client-side JavaScript/CSS libraries/frameworks that are currently out there. These are the ones I'm currenlty aware of: iUI CiUI UiUIKit WebApp.Net iWebKit Apple's Dashcode Application - not really a standalone library/framework, but it provides/generates JavaScript, CSS, and images that conform to the native iPhone UI metaphors. Are there any others out there? I want to make sure I'm not missing any before I make a decision. I'm only looking for client-side JavaScript/CSS solutions and building one from scratch isn't an option because of time constraints. No server-side PHP, Ruby, Python, Java, etc. solutions. I am aware of the iPhone web applications, templates, frameworks? question that was asked, but this only mentioned iUI and UiUIKit. Thank you

• Setting classpath java for use in Runtime.exec

  I am trying to spawn a process using Runtime.exec. I want to use my current classpath : System.getProperty("java.class.path") Unfortunately, I am having all kinds of issues. When it works on my mac, it doesn't work on Windows. And doesn't work on my mac ever when there is a space in the classpath. The error I always get is ClassDefNotFound, so it's related to how I'm building and passing in the classpath. here is some sample code: String startClass = "com.test.MyClass" String javaHome = System.getProperty("java.home"); String javaCmd = javaHome + "/bin/java"; String classPath = "-Djava.class.path=" + System.getProperty("java.class.path"); String[] commands = new String[]{javaCmd, classPath, startClass}; String commandString = StringUtils.join(commands, " "); Process process = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(commandString); So, how should I setup the classpath?   Hi I'm building C++ app with CMake. But it uses some source files in C.   Hi all, I'm looking to revamp our mobile site with something simple for phones below the ambiguous smart phone category and something a little more interesting for the phones above this category. I'm not interested in WAP/WML for this project. I'm building a ASP.Net 4 MCV 2 app and using MBDF What I'd like to know is how best to define this differentiation when using MBDF? Screen size, Javascript, SpportsTouchScreen etc. are all in MBDF along with others but I'm not sure where to draw the line and where the data is most accurate for the broad number of devices. What do those of you out there developing for this spread of hardware & software split on? Thanks, Denis P.S. I've done my research on xHTML MP1.0 - 1.2 and the best practises for implementation to ensure broad coverage but I don't want to restrict the newer phones out there to what the base line can see.

• Open source license for test code

  I'm creating a project to house an iPhone library for common code for the iPhone... essentially it's a library that'll save people from finding solutions to common problems that amount to copying and pasting snippets of code. The site is located here: http://code.google.com/p/devkit-bb/ I licensed it under Eclipse, because fosters the extension of the library without requiring constraints like LGPL on object files being provided/made available, which would be the case since everything is statically linked. What I'm wondering is how/what license to apply to the unit tests? Since they essentially demonstrate how to use various interfaces and components. Thus they're designed for potential copy and paste situations, and I don't want people who might end up using this as part of the building blocks of their environment to feel like the license would prohibit that "derivative work", ie. their application or game.

• Using jQuery to load Telerik MVC scripts.

  I'm busy building my first MVC app that uses the Telerik MVC components. Their docs specify that the ScriptRegistrar helper be called right at the bottom of a view, e.g. "at the end of the master page.". I assume this renders a script block that must only run when the page has loaded. I normally prefer to achieve this using jQuery, and keep all my script related stuff at the top of my master page, preferably in the <head> tag. Is there anything I can do to achieve this with the Telerik components and do away with the lone and forgotten helper call at the bottom of my master page?

  I'm building an application that search and recognizes any iPhone apps that user has in his/her computer. I would like to know a way to "extract" the id of the application from the .ipa file. I was trying to do the recognition using only the App File Name, but I discovered that the File Name is not the name of the app in Apple Store. Live Poker 6K Free by Zynga != Live Poker 3.7.ipa The id i'm talking about is the app id, like in, http://itunes.apple.com/app/live-poker-6k-free-by-zynga/id354901953?mt=8 the id is 354901953. Does any body has a clue how can I manage to find this information?

• Best Practices for Managed SalesForce App Development?

  We're developing applications for AppExchange and are trying to figure out the best way to do development and release management. There are several issues around this: 1) Package Prefixes. We are developing code in unmanaged mode and releasing as managed, so we have to add all the package prefixes into the code. Is there a way to do this dynamically at runtime? Right now we're using an Ant script, which stops us benefitting from the force.com IDE plugin. 2) Resource files... We are doing some ajax-ey stuff and as a result have a few different resource files we upload, some of which are multiple file resources (zip files). Has anyone automated the building of these resources using ANT, and does that work well? Our environment seems very fragile and works for some developers and not others; have other people had this problem? How did you resolve it?

  I am building a theme that has a lot of custom templates, like every page. Ridiculous, but for some reason the template I made for the "postings" page is not getting the posts? I have set the post page in reading preferences, and I have set the page to use my template, but it still publishes posts to a default template. Of all the customization I built into this I did not expect the blog part to give me trouble! lol Anyone run into this kind of thing? Thank you.

• MVC2: Best Way to Intercept ViewRequest and Alter ActionResult

  I'm building an ASP.NET MVC2 Web Application that requires some sophisticated authentication and business logic that cannot be achieved using the out of the box forms authentication. I'm new to MVC so bear with me... My plan was to mark all restricted View methods with one or more custom attributes (that contain additional data). The controller would then override the OnActionExecuting method to intercept requests, analyze the target view's attributes, and do a variety of different things, including re-routing the user to different places. I have the interception and attribute analysis working, but the redirection is not working as expected. I have tried setting the ActionExecutingContext.Result to null and even have tried spooling up controllers via reflection and invoking their action methods. No dice. I was able to achieve it this way... protected override void OnActionExecuting(ActionExecutingContext filterContext) { filterContext.HttpContext.Response.Redirect("/MyView", false); base.OnActionExecuting(filterContext); } This seems like a hack, and there has to be a better way...

• Preserving text formatting for dynamic website

  Hello Folks, I am facing a problem while creating a dynamic website. I am building it for some pharma company, which have many products. The problem is, every product have different sections of description, and have to be formatted differently. I wanted to store all the product descriptions in the database, but at the same time preserve the formatting of each description. I also plan to provide an admin interface, where they could edit the product information themselves. I could use Joomla or any other CMS for that purpose, but i wanted to know if i want to build such a system of my own, where i could format the text in an editor and them save that thing into database and when i retrieve it, i get the same formatting. • Undefined reference to cmph functions even after installing cpmh library

  I am using gcc 4.4.3 on ubuntu. I installed cmph library tools 0.9-1 using command sudo apt-get install libcmph-tools Now, when I tried to compile example program vector_adapter_ex1.c , gcc is able to detect cmph.h library in its include file but is showing multiple errors like vector_adapter_ex1.c:(.text+0x93): undefined reference to cmph_io_vector_adapter' vector_adapter_ex1.c:(.text+0xa3): undefined reference tocmph_config_new' vector_adapter_ex1.c:(.text+0xbb): undefined reference to cmph_config_set_algo' vector_adapter_ex1.c:(.text+0xcf): undefined reference tocmph_config_set_mphf_fd' even though, these are all defined in the source code of the cmph library. Could anyone tell the error that might have occurred or suggest an alternate method to go about building minimal perfect hash functions.

• Visual Studio .NET 2003 - Ignore Specific Library for libcmt vs libcmtd

  Hi, I have a template VS .NET 2003 project, which colleagues copy and customise when developing their software. It appears the template was altered a while back to set the IgnoreSpecificLibrary property to have libcmt.lib for both release and debug builds (i.e. for both release and debug, the build should ignore libcmt.lib in the linker). Some projects based on this have since been built, with the release build pulling in libcmtd.lib (evident by looking through the project .map file) which appears to have caused some runtime issues (i.e. a dialog window being flashed up as though a breakpoint had been set). Does setting IgnoreSpecificLibrary to exclude libcmt.lib automatically make the project link against libcmtd.lib? What is weird is that building the template (with the incorrect setting) links against libcmt.lib whereas some of the customised projects (though not all) link against libcmtd.lib. Any ideas?

  I'm building an application in Hibernate, Spring and JSF2 using only annotations. How can I take advantage of OpenSessionInViewInterceptor found in Spring to catch any hibernate session that might open within a bean? I'm trying to elegantly solve the common “failed to lazily initialize a collection of role: your.Class.assocation no session or session was closed.” problem when trying to read from a yet uninitialized list of POJOs inside another POJO (A Tag entity retrieved by a DAO that contains a List of Project objects I want to read). • Using SCons as a build engine for distutils

  I have a python package with some C code needed to build an extension (with some non-trivial building needs). I have used SCons as my build system because it's really good and flexible. I'm looking for a way to compile my python extensions with SCons ready to be distributed with distutils. I want that the user simply types setup.py install and get the extension compiled with SCons instead of the default distutils build engine. An idea that comes to mind is to redefine build_ext command in distutils, but I can't find extensive documentation for it. Any suggestion?

  Hi, I am looking for some advice on how what is the best approach to subweb folders and having mutliple bin folders in the WebSite Project model. For adding new pages at a later stage without recompiling the core files of a website and without building a full fledged Plug-in framework api. I am aware of being able to drop in the compiled dlls into the main bin folder and to just copy over the new page files to a sub folder but I am looking for a more organized file/folder approach. Here is the how it was done with WAP: Moving the Code-Behind Assemblies/DLLs to a different folder than /BIN with ASP.NET 1.1 Multiple /bin folders in ASP.NET I should also mention that I see that I can still do it the old way with the website project model by making the adjustment to the config section mentioned here but I was wondering if that has any side affects. • LLVM: bitcode with llvm-gcc (mingw) for windows

  Hi, i'm currently building a small JIT compiler. For the language I need a runtime library for some special math functions. I think the best would be to compile the lib to bitcode and link it. The compiler should be integrated in a product and as of this, it must work under windows (VC10, 64bit). So is it possible to build the math lib with the mingw llvm-gcc build an link it later with the JITed Code? Or are there any problems regarding the portability of the bitcode build with llvm-gcc under mingw? If there are problems, what solution would you suggest?

• Silverlight TabControl - Finding and selecting a TabItem from a given Control in the TabItem.

  I am building a LOB application that has a main section and a TabControl with various TabItems in it. On hitting save the idea is that any fields in error are highlighted and the first field in error gets the focus. If the first, and only, field in error is on an Unselected tab the tab should then become selected and the field in error should become highlighted and have focus. But I can not get this to work. What appears to be happening is that the Unselected tab is not in the visual tree so you can't navigate back to the owning TabItem and make it the currently selected TabItem in the TabControl. Has anyone got an idea on how this can be done\achieved?

  I'm building a few SharePoint sites, and I want to make use of zones so I may set security different in the various zones. My workstation has a local SharePoint, and I use it for development. My workstation has a static IP, and is connected to the internet. When I make a SharePoint site, I want to add a host header, for instance, devbox.com. I do not own this name, nor do I want to. I then add an entry in my hosts file, but when I surf to http://devbox.com:8080, it does not resolve. Do I need to register the name I want to use, or should this work, i.e., have my hosts file resolve names/IPs first?

• How to make a reference to a normal java class from GWT server side

  hello I building my project using GWT plugin for eclipse Galileo, after i done from RPC between the server and client, i trying to make a reference from gwt server side to normal java class in non-gwt-project, but every time i make an object from the class (which in non-gwt-project) gives me ClassNotFoundException. i did the buildpath for the gwt project, but still gives me the same exception, is there a way to make that from server side (not from client side). i need help please, i spent a lot of time searching for solution but i did not found anything. i appreciate any suggestions...thanks
