    I am new to iphone development.I am parsing a XML URL and display the title ,date and summary in a table view.I noticed some of the date were very old like "Wed, 31 Dec 1969 19:00:00 -0500" ,So i don't want to display the dates which are 1 year older than the current year.How to do that? I used the sample code from this site for parsing and display the details.Please help me out.Thanks.

    I've just set up a fail-over DNS to switch the site to a second host if the first is down. This is great for showing an old / archived version of the site, but I suspect maintenance is going to be a real pain. I moved the files over with rsync in the first place. Is this the kinda thing that could be run as a cron job, automatically moving over newer files?

    I've found an old plugin called acts_as_habtm_list - but it's for Rails 1.0.0. Is this functionality built in acts_as_list now? I can't seem to find any information on it. Because waiting for all queries to complete is too long I would like to update the web page after every query completes - send result of one query to a web browser, new result should be appended to old results that are already on the web page. However under Windows 7 Professional i can't delete the file some System process is always restoring it (same with the dll files) and as you can imagine a lot of programs are crashing because of that behaviour. So WHAT SERVICE/PROCESS can lock/recreate/restore files? I have disabled System Recovery.

    some case i write code like these: a,temp,b = s.partition('-') i just need to pick the first and 3rd element. temp would never be used. is there a better way to do this? the common case is ,a better way to pick separted element to make a new list? for example i want to make a new list use old list 0,1,3,7 element code would be this: newlist = [oldlist[0],oldlist[1],oldlist[3],oldlist[7]] it's pretty ugly,isn't it?

    In an class header I have seen something like this: enum { kAudioSessionProperty_PreferredHardwareSampleRate = 'hwsr', // Float64 kAudioSessionProperty_PreferredHardwareIOBufferDuration = 'iobd' // Float32 }; Now I wonder what data type such an kAudioSessionProperty_PreferredHardwareSampleRate actually is? I mean this looks like plain old C, but in Objective-C I would write @"hwsr" if I wanted to make it a string. I want to pass such an "constant" or "enum thing" as argument to an method.

  • Why does Convert.ToBoolean("0") fail?

    I know that trying to convert string "0" to boolean will fail, I also know how to fix this, thanks to Jon Skeets answers on other questions. What I would like to know is WHY does C# not recognize "0" as a valid input for a boolean conversion, surely you could look at it like 0 = false, 1 = true, or even -1 = false and 0 = true, anyways, my logic tells me that it could be a valid input, so is there a very good reason why its not? My bet is old vb6 would be able to recognize the string input "0" as valid.

    I am just switching from C to C# and would like to invest sometime learning database work. I am overwhelmed with the options: Linq-to-sql, ADO.NET. nHibernate, EntityFramework, plain old sql (I am used to this). Since I have only limited 'learning' hours available (about 2.5 hours per day), where should I invest my time? I don't want to learn something that will be obsolete next month or for which no one will hire me.
