• Socialengine installation error

  I'm trying to install Socialengine (clean install, empty database, legal license key), but I ran into this error message at Step 3 of the installation: Step 3: Setup MySQL Database Mysqli statement execute error : Prepared statement needs to be re-prepared I found a troubleshooting artice about "Bug in MySQLi Extension Causes Apache 500 Error" at http://www.socialengine.net/blog/article?id=161&article=Bug-in-MySQLi-Extension-Causes-Apache-500-Error I uploaded the fixed file and try to install again, but it still doesn't work. It terminates at Step 3 again with the same error message. I would be very grateful if you could help me. Thanks.

• Need a CDN with SSL

  We currently use Edgecast through Speedyrails. Back when I did my research they were both fast and very cost-effective. I haven't looked in a while, but now we need SSL on our assets as well. I reached out to our current provider and they want a setup fee and something like 260 USD per host per month (we use multiple hosts currently). I looked at AWS Cloudfront and it seems the most cost affective way to get SSL, but it's not a custom domain then (e.g. cdn.example.org), which I could live with. Has any else researched this lately and has any providers to get in touch with - can be resellers or direct buys. I'm not looking for a bargain, I just want to get an idea what these things cost. Edit, 2012-08-23: Must have is custom origin. E.g. I don't want to manually upload files somewhere else. Edgecast and Cloudfront both support this.

One of my client website was like they having example.com and blog.example.com. So in mind to keep all stuff in one place we redirect blog.example.com to example.com/blog/ But in this case we lost our pagerank and are still wondering where we went wrong or it just takes few more time to showoff. So what is the reason behind this?

• How do sites avoid SEO issues / legalities with subdomain unique ids?

  I was looking through a few websites recently and noticed a trend I'm not sure I understand. Sites are creating unique referral URLs for customers in the form of: http://customname.site.com (If somebody were to use http://www.site.com/customname it would function the same way). I can see the sites are using 302 redirects at some point using Google Chrome then doing some sort of htaccess redirect, taking the subdomain name (customname) and applying it as a referral parameter then keeping in session during the entire process. However, there must be thousands of these custom URLs that people are typing in. How are each one of these "subdomains" not treated as separate URLs which in turn are redirected to the same page (in short, generating tons of links all pointing to the same page which Google would normally frown upon)? Additionally, the links also appear on the site themselves as clickable links so I'm not sure how these are not tracked. Similarly, the "unique" url is not indexed or cached in any Google search results. How is this capability handled? It does NOT highlight the referral aspect, but a true example of this is visiting http://sfgiants.com which does a 302 redirect to the much longer proper San Francisco Giants MLB homepage. I am wondering how SFgiants.com is not indexed (assuming that direct shortened link appears on several MLB pages)? 1 - I know these are 302 redirects, I can see this on the sites network flow. 2 - These links do in fact appear on the page itself because in some areas (for example, the bottom of the page may say: send this page to a friend! http://name.site.com/ which in turn would again redirect to something like http://www.site.com?id=name so the id value could be stored in session

• htaccess 301 redirect help needed

  Due to some issues in my site many pages are visible as duplicate using : www.example.com/page.html?task=view but it's content is exactly same as www.example.com/page.html. One way is to use http 301 redirect from www.example.com/page.html?task=view to www.example.com/page.html when anybody fetches page with arguments. But links like www.example.com/page.html?task=view will remain visible to outside world. Another way is canonicalization which I don't want to use as it is difficult to insert the tag in Joomla CMS. I want to hide www.example.com/page.html?task=view from external world. Is it possible to change the url from www.example.com/page.html?task=view to www.example.com/page.html ? I mean if there is href link of www.example.com/page.html?task=view in my web page, it should be visible to external world as without any arguments. This is different from using 301 to convert externally accessed page : www.example.com/page.html?task=view to without using arguments in .htaccess.

On the other hand it boosts the number of pages indexed since every new search can provide a link on google and people can find you with related keywords that you are not using on your web page.   I'm using an ajax registration form plugin for my website and I'm thinking to implement also Paypal. Here is how I want to implement it : I have 3 labels ( Name, Phone, Email, ) and a " Buy " button. After the user is typing his name, phone and email they click on "Buy" and they will be redirected to the paypal payment page or if it's possible to stay on the same page. Probably, what I need to know is how to make the "Buy " only after the forms ( name, phone, email ) are validated.   I am developing a back link tool for Chinese SEO (our web site URL is: http://link.aizhan.com just like ahrefs.com. I encountered a problem which is how to handle multiple pages of the same site with the same out links. For example: Most pages of bbs.chinaz.com have the same out links such as: bbs.chinaz.com/Tea/thread-6293993-1-1.html bbs.chinaz.com/Tea/list-1.html bbs.chinaz.com/alimama/thread-6265032-1-1.html bbs.chinaz.com/alimama/thread-6265032-2-1.html?userid=-1&extParms= bbs.chinaz.com/Shuiba/list-1.html bbs.chinaz.com/FeedBack/thread-4456753-1-1.html etc.. All of the pages have the same out links in the top of the page: www.cnzz.com(anchor text:????) www.313.com(????) www.idc123.com(????) Suppose I store these outlinks into database. The SEO will find there are six backlinks from bbs.chinaz.com of www.cnzz.com. This is obviously no sense for the SEO. Can you tell me how do you deal with this problem?

• Why Can't Computers Off My Network See the Site? [migrated]

  Have just set up Apache, PHP, MySQL, etc. on my Ubuntu OS, and I was wondering why computers that are not on my network can not see the basic index.html that Apache uses as the default. I set up the static ip address for my computer, and I use 192.168.1.100 for computers to view the simple site. Is there something I am missing that will allow others to access my site? (It is REALLY simple; no graphics, CSS, etc.)

  Possible Duplicate: How should I handle search engines auto-correcting the spelling of a site's name? My domain name is radiuus.com. Since the correct spelling of the word is with one u, when I search for "radiuus" on google it thinks I'm misspelling the word, kindly lets me know, and returns results for "radius".   I have used http://www.longtailvideo.com/bits-on-the-run,http://www.influxis.com/, wistia for video hosting. Wistia didn't allow the finer control that we wanted to have. Influxis doesn't have the features that Bits on the Run has but platform usage for BOTR gets expensive. I was thinking of moving the videos to Amazon CDN. What are your thoughts and experiences with video hosting and are there any recommendations? Videos will be privately streamed to 100's of doctors offices.

• Should I use subdomains or subfolders for my user groups?

  Hello, I run a photography website where each user has its own subdomain (i.e. user.site.com). I'm thinking of adding user groups but I'm unable to decide if I should also associate a separate subdomain or simply a subfolder for each group: Subfolders (www.site.com/groups/my-group) Pros: Easier to maintain from a tehnical p.o.v. Cons: Harder to memorize. The URLs can get really long (www.site.com/groups/my-group/albums/my-album/) Subdomains (my-group.site.com) Pros: Easier to memorize. Shorter URLs. One might have the impression that such an URL is somewhat more "independent" from the main site. Cons: Group and user names belong to the same name space, so we need to check for collisions when creating a new user/group. One cannot determine the content of the page by only reading the URL: Is x.site.com a user page or a group page? What's your opinion on the matter? I should note that DeviantArt.com uses the 2nd option (that's where I got the idea). Thank you in advance!

I simply require a little advice; A very large hosted e-commerce platform emailed me a while back and basically asked me to transfer my domain name to them. They made no offer but simply said 'why not change your domain to xx - xx instaead of xxxx' Not they own all the equivalent names in .com, .org all of them apart from my .co.uk I am a registered partner of theirs and my website is a portfolio of all my themes but I also get a lot of enquires through it. I had heard rumors this company is opening an office in the UK! I'm right in thinking I shouldn't just roll over right? I've put some much effort in to SEO and building my reputation... I can't just give it up surly?

  I am hosting collection of videos, for which I retain the copyright, on a file server that I'd like to share with family and friends. When a user visits the my fileserver via a web browser they are asked to authenticate using HTTP auth and then they are presented with a basic list of the files. I'd like to build web application that provides a clean interface with simply library functionality. However, this app will be hosted on a different server. I'm trying to figure out a security model for my file server that doesn't require the user to login to both the file-server and the hosting-server.   My first question is about Crawl errors in Google Webmaster Tools. Crawl errors is devided into few sections. One of them is HTTP. I assume that all broken links in HTTP was somehow found by crawler, this is not the links from sitemap. If this was found by scanning all sitemap pages for links, why it doesn't mention what was the source page, like in sitemap section with column Linked From. And what the meaning of Linked From, I thought if the name of section is sitemap, therefore all URLs should be taken from sitemap, so why there is Linked From? The second question, what is the best way to trreat searching on the site. How come the searching result page are getting indexed? Because of the fact that all searching result page are getting indexed, I have to many page in Linked From. What's the right practice? Question three: In order to improve response time in WMT, can I redirect all crawler's requests to designated free web server? Is this good practice? Question four: How should I treat Google Analytics Code (with parameters PageView, PageLoadTime), in the case user request non existing page, should I render Google code or not? Right now I use Google Analytics Code on the common template page, such that every page, also non existing page with error message contains Google Analytics Code, it seems like it has influence on WMT.

  Possible Duplicate: What is duplicate content and how can I avoid being penalized for it on my site? I have two domains pointing to the same site. I want both domains to co-exist, they share most of the same content, but they differ in design and they are aimed at different markets / rivaling communities. Is there a way to let google know that these two domains are the same site and don't cause me to get hit with a duplicate content penalty?   here's the situation: This company offers local home services (construction...), but also fabricates many custom items that can be shipped nationally, and even internationally. Since i started working on this website, it has ranked pretty well on alexa global and locally, and i have made many SEO improvements that doubled the visits to the website in 6 months. The website is listed in many different directories (dmoz & etc...), maps (google maps & etc...), business listing sites (yelp & etc..), trade specific websites (angie's list, houzz & etc...), state specific business listings and etc, there are many links to pictures displayed on the website, links to the website itself, i have a google analytics and webmaster tools account, with sitemaps, newsletters, facebook page.... the list goes on and on. All of which have been working pretty well locally. We have had some success with doing business in other states and even other countries, but it is still a pretty small percentage of the market. I also advertise on google adwords locally, and since this would be the obvious answer, my question is: Without paid advertisement, how can i improve the visibility of this local business website nationally to attract customers in all US States?

• Good podcasting solution?

  I simply ask for the best, most common and simple way to set up a podcast? Please, I need an answer so I can close this question? I run a joomla-based website for a small church and now need a simple, cheap and effective solution for an audio podcast. I am looking for a solution that will do the following: User uploads audio files to service (preferably not to our own site) that is cheap, fast and simple to use. Dropbox for example? Files are easily embeddable into Joomla website articles to be played on the spot (through simple-to-use and media player). Preferably through RSS feeds (to make it easy to update every week). Files are downloadable. Files are viewable on iPhones and other smartphones. Solution can be broadcasted via iTunes. Solution doesn't need a lot of extra, new third party software. I'd rather keep it simple and familiar than have it be a complete new system but with a steep learning curve. At the moment we use vimeo to host the podcast, through video files. But we'd like to move to something simpler that doesn't involve a series of difficult steps to upload the files to the web.
