• Representing a very large array of bits in little memory

  Hello, I would like to represent a structure containing 250 M states(1 bit each) somehow into as less memory as possible (100 k maximum). The operations on it are set/get. I cold not say that it's dense or sparse, it may vary. The language I want to use is C. I looked at other threads here to find something suitable also. A probabilistic structure like Bloom filter for example would not fit because of the possible false answers. Any suggestions please?

So, i'm need to each articles of the page (these articles are dynamic) and verify, in a local xml how articles are read.To article read i'm set a determinated css class,and if not, another css class. To do it, i'm checking all elements of type "DIV" in page using this code line: HtmlElementCollection col = webBrowser.Document.GetElementsByTagName("div"); I'm wanna filter the div's to get only 'divs' that i will change and not all div's of page Somebody can help me?   I have few texboxes, dropdown lists, etc.. They have their css classes. • Google Maps API limitations

  I am working on a project where I am going to create a map over a specific area, and have some points-of-interest included. Thinking of the ones already included in Google Maps. My first thought was that this could be done in the Google Maps API, but I've never worked with if before so therefor I have some questions about it's limitations and capability. Can I limit the map to one specific area? Can I filter the points-of-interest? Ex. only gas stations and hotels etc. Thats about it to get me started at least. Thanks!

• Confused by "let" in Clojure

  I just started playing with Clojure, and I wrote a small script to help me understand some of the functions. It begins like this: (def *exprs-to-test* [ "(filter #(< % 3) '(1 2 3 4 3 2 1))" "(remove #(< % 3) '(1 2 3 4 3 2 1))" "(distinct '(1 2 3 4 3 2 1))" ]) Then it goes through *exprs-to-test*, evaluates them all, and prints the output like this: (doseq [exstr *exprs-to-test*] (do (println "===" (first (read-string exstr)) "=========================") (println "Code: " exstr) (println "Eval: " (eval (read-string exstr))) ) ) The above code is all working fine. However, (read-string exstr) is repeated so I tried to use let to eliminate the repetition like so: (doseq [exstr *exprs-to-test*] (let [ex (read-string exstr)] ( (do (println "===" (first ex) "=========================") (println "Code: " exstr) (println "Eval: " (eval ex)) ) )) ) But this works once for the first item in *exprs-to-test*, then crashes with a NullPointerException. Why is the addition of let causing the crash?

  I work in a call centre and have been told by my manager that when there are no calls coming through they're happy for me to read stuff on the internet. There is a net filter in place but I can access SO from work which is always handy. I'm searching for articles that will make me a generally better programmer. I code in Python but combine it with Postgres and JS quite a lot if that helps. I'm currently reading Dive into python3 but I fear it won't last me much longer and would really like to expand my programming ability.

• Returning JSON or XML for Exceptions in Jersey

  My goal is to have an error bean returned on a 404 with a descriptive message when a object is not found, and return the same MIME type that was requested. I have a look up resource, which will return the specified object in XML or JSON based on the URI (I have setup the com.sun.jersey.config.property.resourceConfigClass servlet parameter so I dont need the Accept header. My JAXBContextResolver has the ErrorBean.class in its list of types, and the correct JAXBContext is returned for this class because I can see in the logs). eg: http://foobar.com/rest/locations/1.json @GET @Path("{id}") @Produces({MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON, MediaType.APPLICATION_XML}) public Location getCustomer(@PathParam("id") int cId) { //look up location from datastore .... if (location == null) { throw new NotFoundException("Location" + cId + " is not found"); } } And my NotFoundException looks like this: public class NotFoundException extends WebApplicationException { public NotFoundException(String message) { super(Response.status(Response.Status.NOT_FOUND). entity(new ErrorBean( message, Response.Status.NOT_FOUND.getStatusCode() ) .build()); } } The ErrorBean is as follows: @XmlRootElement(name = "error") public class ErrorBean { private String errorMsg; private int errorCode; //no-arg constructor, property constructor, getter and setters ... } However, I'm always getting a 204 No Content response when I try this. • In DirectShow, what determines the graph source?

  Hi all, I have two machines - A (XP SP2) and B (Win7). Machine B has trouble playing OGM files - enabling subtitles causes a crash in the player. Investigation shows that the DirectShow graphs are quite different. On A, the source is a file source, which produces a stream of subtype OGG, which goes into "Ogg Splitter". On B, the source is an instance of Haali Media Splitter, which produces video, audio, and subtitles as separate streams. Machine A has Haali splitter installed as well, but it is not invoked somehow. Question - what determines the source filter? Is there a file type to preferred source mapping, or does the system load and ask all suitable filters if they would take this file? On machine A, the merit of Haali splitter is higher than that of File source, so it's probably not about relative merits.

  I keep running into situations where I don't know what event I have to listen to in order to execute my code at the correct time. Is there any way to get a log of all events that is raised? Any way to filter that log based on what object raised the event? • Sorting related objects in the Django Admin form interface

  I am looking to sort the related objects that show up when editing an object using the admin form. So for example, I would like to take the following object: class Person(models.Model): first_name = models.CharField( ... ) last_name = models.CharField( ... ) hero = models.ForeignKey( 'self', null=True, blank=True ) and edit the first name, last name and hero using the admin interface. I want to sort the objects as they show up in the drop down by last name, first name (ascending). How do I do that? Context I'm using Django v1.1. I started by looking for help in the django admin docs, but didn't find the solution As you can see in the example, the foreign key is pointing to itself, but I expect it would be the same as pointing to a different model object. Bonus points for being able to filter the related objects, too (eg~ only allow selecting a hero with the same first name)

And there is a retrieval routine in C# IEnumerable<V1> GetData(MyFilter filter, MySortOrder order) {} I want to reuse with V2. Is it possible without performing joins in L2S rather than in database? Should i manually create a base class in the database context or something?

• when to use Hibernate vs. Simple ResultSets for small application

  I just started working on upgrading a small component in a distributed java application. The main application is a rather complicated applet/servlet combo running on JBoss and it extensively uses Hibernate for its DataAccess. The component i am working on however is very a very straightforward data importing service. Basically the workflow is Listen for a network event Parse the data packet, extract a set of identifiers Map the identifier set to a primary key in our database Parse the rest of the packet and insert items in a related table using the foreign key found in step 3 Repeat in the previous version of this component it used a hibernate based DAL, that is no longer usable for a variety of reasons (in particular it is EOL), so I am in charge of replacing the Data Access layer for this component. So on the one hand I think i should use Hibernate because that's what the rest of the application does, but on the other i think i should just use regular java.sql.* classes because my requirements are really straightforward and aren't expected to change any time soon. So my question is (and i understand it is subjective) at what point do you think that the added complexity of using an ORM tool (in terms of configuration, dependencies...) is worth it? UPDATE due to the way the DataAccesLayer for the main application was written (weird dependencies) i cannot easily use it, i would have to implement it myself.

• How to use $.get data to replace certain elements in a webpage?

  I'm using jQuery 1.4.2 to navigate smoothly between similar webpages (in ff3). When clicking on a link, a javascript script should load the new html, filter out the right elements and replace them on the current page. It looks like the $(htmlcode) does not do the thing I expected. The actions below work when loading the page directly, but when using the $.get I have the following problems: the find function seems only to look inside a div element called id="page", which is inside the body element one of the elements has <script>...</script>, but the <script>...</script> is not present in the DOM of $(htmlcode). Anybody knows how to solve this? $.get( url, function(responseText, textStatus, xmlHttpRequest) { alert($(responseText).find("#header")); // works, #header is inside div#page alert($(responseText).find("#header").html()); // displays content, but WITHOUT the <script>...</script> alert($(responseText).find("title")); // does not work, title is outside div#page } );

• JSF getter methods called BEFORE beforePhase fires

  I got a recommendation to put all data lookups in the beforePhase for a given page, however, now that I am doing some deeper analysis it appears that some getter methods are being called before the beforePhase is fired. It became very obvious when I added support for a url parameter and I was getting NPEs on objects that are initialized in the beforePhase call. Any thoughts? Something I have set wrong. I have this in my JSP page: <f:view beforePhase="#{someController.beforePhaseSummary}"> That is only the 5th line in the JSP file and is right after the taglibs. When my site is required from within that iframe I would like to modify the content (remove header, filter data, etc.). What better way to do this? Is there any way of knowing that the request is being made from an iframe? Multiples sites will request the same url, can i change the content, based on the source site? thanks! ps.: sorry for my bad english :/

• How to work around a site forbidding me to scrape their images with PHP

  I'm scraping a site, searching for JPGs to download. Scraping the site's HTML pages works fine. But when I try getting the JPGs with CURL, copy(), fopen(), etc., I get a 403 forbiden status. I know that's because the site owners don't want their images scraped, so I understand a good answer would be just don't do it, because they don't want you to. Ok, but let's say it's ok and I try to work around this, how could this be achieved? If I get the same URL with a browser, I can open the image perfectly, it's not that my IP is banned or anything, and I'm testing the scraper one file at a time, so it's not blocking me because I make too many requests too often. From my understanding, it could be that either the site is checking for some cookies that confirm that I'm using a browser and browsing their site before I download a JPG. Or that maybe PHP is using some user agent for the requests that the server can detect and filter out. Anyway, have any idea?

Is this a complete oversight or i am missing something i would expect to see something like this: RemoteIssue[] issues = _soapService.getIssues(string project_, string version_) any help? UPDATE: I see that JIRA 4.0 is out but i can't find any documentation if the API has changed to support this request above. Can anyone find this link to answer that questions.

• Is there an Objective-C algorithm like `transform` of the C++ STL?

  My goal is to have an array that contains all filenames of a specific extension, but without the extension. There's an elegant solution to get all filenames of a specific extension using a predicate filter and instructions on how to split a path into filename and extension, but to combine them I would have to write a loop (not terrible, but not elegant either). Is there a way with Objective-C (may be similar to the predicate mechanism) to apply some function to every element of an array and put the results in a second array, like the transform algorithm of the C++ STL does?

I want it to call an action like this: action="#{documentHome.removeProperty(property)"} Well, in order to do this i call the control like: <up:columnDetails view="/admin/property.xhtml" columnTitle="yes" entity="#{property}" paramValue="#{property.propertyId}" propagation="nest" entityHome="documentHome" removeMethodName="removeProperty"/> So, i hardcode entityHome and removeMethodName. Well an error is firing. Caused by javax.servlet.ServletException with message: "#{entityHome.removeMethodName(entity)}: javax.el.MethodNotFoundException It seems that it cannot interpret "removeMethodName". If i print entityHome or removeMethodName it correctly shows the values i pass. But i think jsf has an error like not beeing able to "believe" that after an object.something, that something can be a parameter... Can anyone guide me...?

• Using PHP's $_COOKIE to create cookie.txt for cURL

  Hi, I'm running Drupal and Mediawiki on my server under the same domain. They are connected to each other with extensions/modules. Meaning if I log in to Mediawiki, it automatically logs into Drupal also. Mediawiki has some extensions that filter the information shown on the page. What I want to do is to show that filtered information from Mediawiki on my Drupal page. I'm trying to fetch the data with PHP cURL, but I'm not able to force it to use the login information. How can I convert PHP's $_COOKIE into cURL cookie.txt format? I suppose after that I'm able to fetch the data from Mediawiki with the right permissions. I heard about using Filter or navigation-rule tag, but i didn't found a full-blown tutorial of how it works. 2) How can i tell the server that unauthorized users can access not only the login page but also the registration page? • Match two mysql cols on alpha chars (ignoring numbers in same field)

  I was wondering if you know of a way I could filter a mysql query to only show the ‘alpha’ characters from a specific field So something like SELECT col1, col2, **alpha_chars_only(col3)** FROM table I am not looking to update only select. I have been looking at some regex but without much luck most of what turned up was searching for fields that only contain ‘alpha’ chars. In a much watered down context... I have col1 which contains abc and col two contains abc123 and I want to match them on alpha chars only. There can be any number of letters or numbers. Any help very much wel come
