  • Virtualbox - differencing disk based on different differencing disk

    - by Klinki
I'm trying to create differencing image based on differencing image in VirtualBox 4.2.18. Official documentation says it should be possible: http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch05.html#diffimages Basically I want to achieve this drive hierarchy: + immutable image with Debian and all software installed +---- differencing image with specific configuration, autoreset=off, readonly +-------- differencing image with autoreset=on +---- another differencing image for different virtual machine +-------- differencing image with autoreset=on I successfully created differencing image based on differencing image, but I'm not able to connect it to virtual machine :( It always shows error: Failed to open the hard disk .... cannot register hard disk ... because hard disk with UUID ... already exists Here is screenshot of Virtual Media Manager and error dialog Virtual Media Manager Window screenshot Very strange is that the new differencing image (tempdrive.vdi) doesn't have Actual Size 0. I wasn't able to connect it, but still, it has 36KB of data on it... This is very similar to this older question: How to create a chained differencing disk of another differencing disk in Virtual Box? but suggested solution is not working anymore in VirtualBox 4.2.18, so I posted it as a new question. (Limit for posting links and screenshots is quite annoying..)

  • How do graphics programmers deal with rendering vertices that don't change the image?

    - by canisrufus
So, the title is a little awkward. I'll give some background, and then ask my question. Background: I work as a web GIS application developer, but in my spare time I've been playing with map rendering and improving data interchange formats. I work only in 2D space. One interesting issue I've encountered is that when you're rendering a polygon at a small scale (zoomed way out), many of the vertices are redundant. An extreme case would be that you have a polygon with 500,000 vertices that only takes up a single pixel. If you're sending this data to the browser, it would make sense to omit ~499,999 of those vertices. One way we achieve that is by rendering an image on a server and and sending it as a PNG: voila, it's a point. Sometimes, though, we want data sent to the browser where it can be rendered with SVG (or canvas, or webgl) so that it can be interactive. The problem: It turns out that, using modern geographic data sets, it's very easy to overload SVG's rendering abilities. In an effort to cope with those limitations, I'm trying to figure out how to visually losslessly reduce a data set for a given scale and map extent (and, if necessary, for a known map pixel width and height). I got a great reduction in data size just using the Douglas-Peucker algorithm, and I believe I was able to get it to keep the polygons true to within one pixel. Unfortunately, Douglas-Peucker doesn't preserve topology, so it changed how borders between polygons got rendered. I couldn't readily find other algorithms to try out and adapt to the purpose, but I don't have much CS/algorithm background and might not recognize them if I saw them.

  • Bug with Windows/Windows Picture and Fax Viewer

    - by pragadheesh
Hi, Recently I copied few photos from my digi cam to my laptop. And what i found was, in Thumbnail view, the Image preview on the photos are different from the actual file. i.e consider if the Image preview on a file is image of a Forest, on Opening the file in Windows Fax viewer i get image of a Seashore. The Actual image is that of a seashore. But in image preview i'm getting different images. How to get rid of this.? It is really annoying. I open a file expecting a image and it turns out to be a different image. Thanks in advance

  • Can't install or update Ubuntu after using parameter acpi_osi = Linux

    - by Lucas Leitão
I recently had an issue with my acer 4736z notebook because I was having a blank screen after booting the OS, then someone told me to use the parameter GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT = "quiet splash acpi_osi = Linux" after quiet splash inside the grub. It worked for me, but since then I can't install a thing or update anything on Linux because it says Removing linux-image-extra-3.5.0-17-generic ... • How Google Web Starter Kit serves adaptive image for mobile?

    - by 5argon
My website weirdly (in a good way) serves smaller images when viewed on mobile. I wanted to know what cause this? As far as I know this is not the default behaviour, so I think it must be Google Web Starter Kit's doing. Here is the debug information when debugging on device. All images became 231 B size no matter how large it actually is. (On desktop debugging the size varies.) I tried using Google Web Starter Kit (https://github.com/google/web-starter-kit) recently. The tools in it are made of Ruby, Node.js, SASS and Gulp to help you 'build' website. Pre-build you can enjoy automatic reload because the Gulp script will watch all files for you. When build it will run various tools to minify HTML,CSS and compress images. According to this page https://developers.google.com/web/fundamentals/tools/build/build_site the gulp-imagemin was used. So I guess the imagemin is doing the mobile optimization for me? What kind of compression can serve automatically resized image on mobile? And why is the size 231 B? Is this related to my screen size?

  • Easier way to create floppy disk images?

    - by Bryan
I'm using Vyatta routers with KVM and want to attach a floppy drive with a config file for Vyatta when I boot the image. I'll be doing this over and over again, and as such am looking for an automated way of creating the floppy images. Right now, I'm doing the following: Create floppy image with qemu-img create Format floppy image with mkdosfs Mount floppy image with mount -t fat /tmp/floppy.img /media/floppy Populate floppy image with cp -r /tmp/configs/ /media/floppy/ Unmount floppy image with umount /media/floppy Save floppy image with mv /tmp/floppy.img ~/floppies/ Any chance there's an easier way to do this?! Perhaps a shortcut application that I can give a directory to and it will do all this for me w/out having to mount the image?

  • Imagemagick convert with resample option

    - by coneybeare
I am creating thumbnails from much larger images and have been using this command successfully for some time: convert FILE -resize "64x" -crop "64x64+0+16" +repage -strip OUTFILE I also do some other processing that is not relevant to the question. I realized that this does not adjust the resolution at all, so if I use a 300dpi image, it ends up displaying really small on some devices. I want to resample it to 72x72 so I have been trying with this command: convert FILE -resize "64x" -crop "64x64+0+16" +repage -strip -resample 72x72 OUTFILE And expected the 64x64 image at 300dpi to be resampled to a 64x64 image at 72dpi, but instead, I am getting a very funny size and density. Here is "identify" output for the original and post-processed file WITHOUT the resample: coneybeare $ convert "aa.jpg" -crop "64x64+0+16" +repage -strip "aa.png" coneybeare $ for image in `find . -type f`; do identify $image; identify -verbose $image | egrep "^ Resolution"; done ./aa.jpg JPEG 1130x1695 1130x1695+0+0 8-bit DirectClass 1.492MiB 0.000u 0:00.000 Resolution: 300x300 ./aa.png PNG 64x64 64x64+0+0 8-bit DirectClass 7.46KiB 0.000u 0:00.000 Resolution: 118.11x118.11 And here is the "identify output for the command WITH the resample: coneybeare $ convert "aa.jpg" -crop "64x64+0+16" +repage -strip -resample 72x72 "aa.png" coneybeare $ for image in `find . -type f`; do identify $image; identify -verbose $image | egrep "^ Resolution"; done ./aa.jpg JPEG 1130x1695 1130x1695+0+0 8-bit DirectClass 1.492MiB 0.000u 0:00.000 Resolution: 300x300 ./aa.png PNG 15x15 15x15+0+0 8-bit DirectClass 901b 0.000u 0:00.000 Resolution: 28.34x28.34 So, the question is: What am I doing wrong and how can I fix it so the end result is a 64x64 cropped thumbnail image at 72dpi?

  • Why can't I mount an image hosted on a read-only HFS+ partition via Boot Camp?

    - by deceze
I have come across the following phenomenon and would like to know how leaky Windows' file system abstraction is or if there's something else involved. I partitioned the hard disk of my MacBook Pro and installed Windows 7 (64 bit). The Boot Camp driver package includes file system drivers that enable Windows to access the Mac OS HFS+ partition. It's read-only access, but it works. Now, I have some disk images of stuff I usually install, so I grabbed a copy of Daemon Tools to mount them. When I mount an image saved on the HFS+ partition, about two out of three installers on these disks (usually InstallShield) crash with all sorts of weird errors. Most are just gibberish that lead to all sorts of non-solutions on Google, one was "This application is not the right type for your computer, check if you need 32 or 64 bit versions." When moving the image files to another Windows 7 computer on the network and mounting them from the network share, they work fine. My question now is, why do applications behave differently depending on whether the read-only image file, which should be abstracted away through the read-only virtual Daemon Tools drive, is located on a read-only HFS+ partition or on a Windows network share? And I'll just roll this into the question as well since I was wondering: Does the file system of a network share matter? Does the client system need to understand the file system of the share host or is that abstracted away in SMB?

  • What LPR arguments do I need to print a 1400x800 pixel image on a 4x6 label?

    - by Nick
This is driving me nuts. UPS sends our system a 1400x800 GIF image of a shipping label, which is supposed to fit nicely on a 4x6 page. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get the command line options right to make it happen. We're using an Eltron/Zebra 2844 with a network adapter, and printing from our Ubuntu 8.04 server using CUPS. We're using the correct drivers, and test pages print correctly. No matter what I try though, it insists on printing the UPS labels accross 6 pages, with a little bit of the label on each page, or way too small. I've tried a bazillion different lpr settings, most of them producing garbage. The closest I've gotten is this: lpr -P Eltron2844 -o natural-scaling=55 -o page-right=0 -o page-left=0 -o landscape -o media="4x6" ./1ZY437560399620027.gif but it causes the image to be too small on the page. It's about an inch too short, and there's a 1/2" margin on both sides. If I bump the scale up to 56, it explodes the image onto two pages, and squashes it. Any ideas?

  • using NetBeans for rotate a figure in a label [migrated]

    - by user134812
I was reading this post: http://forums.netbeans.org/post-8864.html and what I have done so far is to make a jFrame in NetBeans, on it I have drawn a jPanel and inisde the panel I have drawn a jLabel on it and use the icon property to put an image on it; until now all is so far so good. I would like to make a program that everytime I click on the figure it rotates it to the right. Actually I have found the following code: public class RotateImage extends JPanel{ // Declare an Image object for us to use. Image image; // Create a constructor method public RotateImage(){ super(); // Load an image to play with. image = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage("Duke_Blocks.gif"); } public void paintComponent(Graphics g){ Graphics2D g2d=(Graphics2D)g; // Create a Java2D version of g. g2d.translate(170, 0); // Translate the center of our coordinates. g2d.rotate(1); // Rotate the image by 1 radian. g2d.drawImage(image, 0, 0, 200, 200, this); } but for what I see this code is for making the panel and other components from scratch, for my purposes it is not so good because I need to put several figures on my jFrame. Could somebody can give me a hint how to do this?

  • No Network Connection in WinXP image from Microsoft running on VirtualBox 3.1.6 OSE (Ubuntu 10.04) due to missing CD Rom

    - by Bevor
I'd like to test local websites in IE7 and IE8.To do that I thought about using the free Microsoft images: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/setup/default.mspx I converted the VHDs to VDIs to make them run in VirtualBox. ( http://www.qc4blog.com/?p=721 ) This works fine. The problem is that in this Windows XP installation there is no Network Adapter configured. Actually nothing at all is configured because it needs the Windows XP CD Rom to do that. If I would have a Windows XP CD Rom, I would not need to run the Microsoft image, so is there some kind of workaround to get an internet connection? Meanwhile I set "bridged" in VirtualBox. But this doesn't help because "ipconfig /all" in the guest system doesn't show any data because nothing is configured. How can I get a connection to my local Apache (Host system). http://localhost would be enough. By the way: I can't install the "Guest additions". When I do that, the 3 days trial period of the guest system is suddenly gone, so I can't use it anymore and it is senseless. Any ideas? Update: I've tried the Vista image and it gets an internet connection. From Vista image I can get to my site with 192.168.1.3/mywebsite in the browser url. So actually I don't care about the WinXP issue anymore but I would be glad if anyone still knows a solution.

  • AuthSub token from Google/YouTube API is always returned as invalid

    - by Miriam Raphael Roberts
    Anyone out there have experience with the YouTube/Google API? I am trying to login to Google/Youtube using clientLogin, retrieve an AuthSub token, exchange it for a multi-session token and then use it in our upload form. Just a note that we are not going to have other users logging into our (secure) website, this is for our use only (no multi-users). We just want a way to upload videos to our YT account via our own website without having to login/upload to YouTube. Ultimately, everything is dependent on the first step. My AuthSub token is always being returned as invalid (Error '403'). All the steps I used are below with username/password changed. Anyone have an insight on why my AuthSub is always invalid? I am spending an enormous amount of time trying to get this to work. Is anyone help me? <Grid> <ListBox x:Name="testListbox" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"> <ListBox.ItemsPanel> <ItemsPanelTemplate> <WrapPanel Width="200" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"/> </ItemsPanelTemplate> </ListBox.ItemsPanel> <ListBoxItem Background="LimeGreen" BorderBrush="Black" BorderThickness="3" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"> <Image Height="50" Width="80" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"/> </ListBoxItem> <ListBoxItem Background="LimeGreen" BorderBrush="Black" BorderThickness="3" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"> <Image Height="50" Width="80" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"/> </ListBoxItem> <ListBoxItem Background="LimeGreen" BorderBrush="Black" BorderThickness="3" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"> <Image Height="50" Width="80" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"/> </ListBoxItem> <ListBoxItem Background="LimeGreen" BorderBrush="Black" BorderThickness="3" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"> <Image Height="50" Width="80" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"/> </ListBoxItem> <ListBoxItem Background="LimeGreen" BorderBrush="Black" BorderThickness="3" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"> <Image Height="50" Width="80" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"/> </ListBoxItem> <ListBoxItem Background="LimeGreen" BorderBrush="Black" BorderThickness="3" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"> <Image Height="50" Width="80" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"/> </ListBoxItem> <ListBoxItem Background="LimeGreen" BorderBrush="Black" BorderThickness="3" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"> <Image Height="50" Width="80" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"/> </ListBoxItem> <ListBoxItem Background="LimeGreen" BorderBrush="Black" BorderThickness="3" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"> <Image Height="50" Width="80" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"/> </ListBoxItem> <ListBoxItem Background="LimeGreen" BorderBrush="Black" BorderThickness="3" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"> <Image Height="50" Width="80" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"/> </ListBoxItem> <ListBoxItem Background="LimeGreen" BorderBrush="Black" BorderThickness="3" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"> <Image Height="50" Width="80" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"/> </ListBoxItem> <ListBoxItem Background="LimeGreen" BorderBrush="Black" BorderThickness="3" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"> <Image Height="50" Width="80" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"/> </ListBoxItem> <ListBoxItem Background="LimeGreen" BorderBrush="Black" BorderThickness="3" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"> <Image Height="50" Width="80" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"/> </ListBoxItem> <ListBoxItem Background="LimeGreen" BorderBrush="Black" BorderThickness="3" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"> <Image Height="50" Width="80" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"/> </ListBoxItem> <ListBoxItem Background="LimeGreen" BorderBrush="Black" BorderThickness="3" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"> <Image Height="50" Width="80" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"/> </ListBoxItem> <ListBoxItem Background="LimeGreen" BorderBrush="Black" BorderThickness="3" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"> <Image Height="50" Width="80" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"/> </ListBoxItem> <ListBoxItem Background="LimeGreen" BorderBrush="Black" BorderThickness="3" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"> <Image Height="50" Width="80" ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll="True"/> </ListBoxItem> </ListBox> </Grid>

  • Using CGRectIntersectsRect for collision detection

    - by user309030
Hi guys, I've got a long rectangular image which is rotated at different kind of angles. However the frame of the rectangular image does not rotate along with the image and instead, the rotation causes the frame to to become larger to fit the rotated image. So when I used CGRectIntersectsRect, the collision detection is totally off because the other image colliding with the rectangular image will collide before it even reaches the visible area of the rect image. In case you don't really know what I'm talking about, have a look at the ascii drawing: normal rectangular image frame, O - pixels, |, – - frame |----------| |OOOOOOOOOO| |----------| after rotation |----------| |O | | O | | O | | O | | O | | O | | O | | O | | O | |----------| I've read through some of the collision articles but all of them are talking about collision with a normal straight rectangle and what I really want is collision with a slanted image, preferably pixel collision detection. TIA for any suggestions made.

  • What ways can I put images in a grid-like format?

    - by Peter
I have about 12-15 images that I want to align together in a grid, with text under each image. I thought about using a table, but I hear that tables aren't the best way to go these days. I tried a few other things, but nothing seemed to work the way I wanted it to. An example of what I want it to look like would be something like this: [-----Image-----] [-----Image-----] [-----Image-----] [-----Image-----] --- Row 1 (--Description-) (-Description-) (-Description-) (-Description-) [-----Image-----] [-----Image-----] [-----Image-----] [-----Image-----] --- Row 2 (--Description-) (-Description-) (-Description-) (-Description-) and so on... What are some other methods, besides tables, that I should look into using? Any suggestions or references would be helpful.

  • Setting an ASIHTTPRequest post to a SimpleHTTPServer Python server?

    - by Rob
I am working on a project (that i will not be releasing to the app store - just for fun) that will upload an image via an HTTP Post request from my iPhone to a server that I have running the Python script SimpleHTTPServer. I have successfully used the ASIHTTP APIs in the past for text strings, but can't for the life of me figure out how to upload an image. I have tried all of the following: NSString *path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"Image" ofType:@".png"]; [request setFile:@"Image.png" forKey:@"file"]; [request setFile:path forKey:@"file"]; [request setFile:path withFileName:@"Image.png" andContentType:@"image/jpeg" forKey:@"file"]; [request setData:[UIImage imageNamed:@"Image.png"] withFileName:@"Image.png" andContentType:@"Image" forKey:@"file"]; Any thoughts on where i could be going wrong?

  • How can I get image data from QTKit without color or gamma correction in Snow Leopard?

    - by Nick Haddad
Since Snow Leopard, QTKit is now returning color corrected image data from functions like QTMovies frameImageAtTime:withAttributes:error:. Given an uncompressed AVI file, the same image data is displayed with larger pixel values in Snow Leopard vs. Leopard. Currently I'm using frameImageAtTime to get an NSImage, then ask for the tiffRepresentation of that image. After doing this, pixel values are slightly higher in Snow Leopard. For example, a file with the following pixel value in Leopard: [0 180 0] Now has a pixel value like: [0 192 0] Is there any way to ask a QTMovie for video frames that are not color corrected? Should I be asking for a CGImageRef, CIImage, or CVPixelBufferRef instead? Is there a way to disable color correction altogether prior to reading in the video files? I've attempted to work around this issue by drawing into a NSBitmapImageRep with the NSCalibratedColroSpace, but that only gets my part of the way there: // Create a movie NSDictionary *dict = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys : nsFileName, QTMovieFileNameAttribute, [NSNumber numberWithBool:NO], QTMovieOpenAsyncOKAttribute, [NSNumber numberWithBool:NO], QTMovieLoopsAttribute, [NSNumber numberWithBool:NO], QTMovieLoopsBackAndForthAttribute, (id)nil]; _theMovie = [[QTMovie alloc] initWithAttributes:dict error:&error]; // .... NSMutableDictionary *imageAttributes = [NSMutableDictionary dictionary]; [imageAttributes setObject:QTMovieFrameImageTypeNSImage forKey:QTMovieFrameImageType]; [imageAttributes setObject:[NSArray arrayWithObject:@"NSBitmapImageRep"] forKey: QTMovieFrameImageRepresentationsType]; [imageAttributes setObject:[NSNumber numberWithBool:YES] forKey:QTMovieFrameImageHighQuality]; NSError* err = nil; NSImage* image = (NSImage*)[_theMovie frameImageAtTime:frameTime withAttributes:imageAttributes error:&err]; // copy NSImage into an NSBitmapImageRep (Objective-C) NSBitmapImageRep* bitmap = [[image representations] objectAtIndex:0]; // Draw into a colorspace we know about NSBitmapImageRep *bitmapWhoseFormatIKnow = [[NSBitmapImageRep alloc] initWithBitmapDataPlanes:NULL pixelsWide:getWidth() pixelsHigh:getHeight() bitsPerSample:8 samplesPerPixel:4 hasAlpha:YES isPlanar:NO colorSpaceName:NSCalibratedRGBColorSpace bitmapFormat:0 bytesPerRow:(getWidth() * 4) bitsPerPixel:32]; [NSGraphicsContext saveGraphicsState]; [NSGraphicsContext setCurrentContext:[NSGraphicsContext graphicsContextWithBitmapImageRep:bitmapWhoseFormatIKnow]]; [bitmap draw]; [NSGraphicsContext restoreGraphicsState]; This does convert back to a 'Non color corrected' colorspace, but the color values NOT are exactly the same as what is stored in the Uncompressed AVI files we are testing with. Also this is much less efficient because it is converting from RGB - "Device RGB" - RGB. Also, I am working in a 64-bit application, so dropping down to the Quicktime-C API is not an option. Thanks for your help.
