  • Adobe Flex 4.0 vs Silverlight 4.0

    - by Jason Towne
While this not necessarily a technical question, I believe it will help a lot of developers (including myself!). With Silverlight 4.0 and Flex 4.0 both in beta, I thought I would put out an open question to the community and see what everyone likes and dislikes about each framework and why. I've worked with Flex in the past but have decided to take another look at Silverlight with the new version being released. Thoughts anyone? Edit: Made it a community wiki. :)

  • How to add dependencies to 3rd party library using nexus/maven

    - by ssaboum
Hi everyone, i'm trying to use Nexus + m2eclipse/maven-3 professionnally, and i've got a huge 3rd party library that needs a lot of dependencies. Is there any ways to ease my pain by uploading to Nexus this third party library with all its dependencies linked, so that anyone who would need it would just have to add the maven-dependency-tag only for this huge library ? Do i need to create the pom myself ? thank you for your help.

  • How can I browse source code on an iPhone?

    - by Bill
I have a lot of downtime on the subway each morning and evening, and I'd like to be able to review source code for various projects I'm working on. Are there any apps that can help with this? I'd like something that lets me browse a hierarchical tree of source files and that does syntax highlighting.

  • Is there a way to split/factor out common parts of Gradle build

    - by Superfilin
We have several independent builds (each independent build is a multi-project build). The main build scripts become quite big as we have a set of common tasks reused by subprojects as well as there is a lot of repeation between indepedent builds. What we are looking for is: A way to split main build file into smaller files A way to reuse some parts of the build in other independent builds What is the best way to achieve that in Gradle?

  • GWT ScrollTable performance problem

    - by wolfi
Hey all, I'm having a little performance problem with the gwt (incubator) ScrollTable. It's rendering really slow. Not even when I'm loading a lot of data - it happens already with a few rows. Or is it possible that the deserializing of the data takes so long? I'm using GWT 2.0 and IE. Maybe someone has the same problem or a solution for it. Thx and Happy Easter!

  • Get next record with Core Data

    - by Sebastian
Hey, I have a tableview which content is managed through core data. When I select a row, a details view is pushed in and shows more information. How can I jump to the next record (the one below the one I selected in the tableview before) through a "next" button in the view ? Same for a previous button, but that should be very similar ... thx a lot ! Sebastian

  • Kohonen SOM Maps in R Tutorial

    - by Btibert3
Hi Everyone, I am simply looking for a good tutorial that will walk me through how to create a SOM in R. I am reading Kohonen and Kaski's paper on using the maps to identify the structure of Welfare, and want to try the technique my self. I think many of the examples in R have a lot to be desired. I have looked on the web and didn't find anything that I thought made the process easy to understand. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

  • Stack Trace in error in Webpage in ASP not in my code?

    - by MarceloRamires
I'm new to web-development in ASP, and I'm experiencing a problem where I try to access a certain page through a link and I get an error, the first part says it's an exception, then tips on debugging and then the stacktrace. What happens is that this code isn't on my application, I've had errors like this before, and the peace of code that appeared usually helped me a lot.

  • Favorite Drupal tips or best practices?

    - by Mike Crittenden
Just wondering what tips or tricks you guys might have to share. As always with posts like this, please only one tip per post so they can be voted on independently. I'll start: however you do your theming, you can use the mothership theme as a base theme for your theme to inherit from so that your markup will be a lot cleaner and less verbose.

  • Software Engineer, Developer, Programmer - Just a name?

    - by user51229
I look at ads and the jobs seem to overlap. A lot of software engineer jobs even say CS or related degree so it doesn't seem like a degree in CS = software engineer. It seems like a programmer or developer with experience can transition to the role or become an "engineer". Or is the engineer just the same job with a fancy name... Is there really a difference or is it just HR throwing names around?

  • Dynamic UI vs Static UI

    - by Damien
I've been wondering, at what point should I give up the convenience of a static data entry form with designer support for a dynamic UI which removes a lot of code duplication? There seems to be a conflict in the programming world where people constantly try to remove code repetition to improve maintainability and yet when it comes to forms, that all goes out of the window and everything gets added explicitly to the forms. What signs should I look for to know when it's time to leave the designer in the dust and create a dynamic UI?

  • Is there any way to monitor the number of CAS stackwalks that are occurring?

    - by Anonymous
I'm working with a time sensitive desktop application that uses p/invoke extensively, and I want to make sure that the code is not wasting a lot of time on CAS stackwalks. I have used the SuppressUnmanagedCodeSecurity attribute where I think it is necessary, but I might have missed a few places. Does anyone know if there is a way to monitor the number of CAS stackwalks that are occurring, and better yet pinpoint the source of the security demands?
