• Ubuntu 12.04 wireless (wifi) not working, can not upgrade to 12.10, touchpad gestures not working. What to do?

  I installed ubuntu 12.04 LTS 3 days ago and since then wireless feature and touchpad gestures are not working. Tried everything on internet but still unsuccessful. I cant upgrade to ubuntu 12.10. These are the following comments I tried. Please help me. EDIT: just realized usb 3.0 is also not working.   Following advice in The 6 Most Important CSS Techniques You Need To Know, I set my body's font-size to 62.5%, the container div's font-size to 1.4 em (slight variation from the article). p.tags and p.published's font-size is set to 1em. However, this doesn't work for me. Both the normal text and text in p.tags and p.published comes out to be the same size (16.8px as computed by Firebug). Can you explain why my code isn't working? I am testing in Firefox 3.6.3. The sample page shown by the author works just fine in the very same browser. • audio onprogress in chrome not working

  Hi I am having a problem getting onprogress event for the audio tag working on chrome. it seems to work on fire fox. http://www.scottandrew.com/pub/html5audioplayer/ works on chrome but there is no progress bar update. I've put in some debug print statement and I confirm that at the time of computation, both: c = a - b; and a -= b; are computed to the same value. • Process is killed without a (obvious) reason and program stops working

  Here's what my program is supposed to do: create 4 child processes: process 0 is reading 1 byte at a time from STDIN, then writing it into FIFO process 1 is reading this 1 byte from fifo and write its value as HEX into shared memory process 2 is reading HEX value from shared memory and writing it into pipe finally process 3 is reading from pipe and writing into STDOUT (in my case: terminal) I can't change communication channels. FIFO, then shared memory, then pipes are the only option. My problem: Program stops at random moments when some file is directed into stdin (for example:./program < /dev/urandom). Sometimes after writing 5 HEX values, sometimes after 100. Weird thing is that when it is working and in another terminal I write "pstree -c" there is 1 main process with 4 children processes (which is what I want), but when I write "pstree -c" after it stopped writing (but still runs) there are only 3 child processes. For some reason 1 is gone even though they all have while(1) in them.. I think I might have problem with synchronization here, but I am unable to spot it (I've tried for many hours). • Templated << friend not working when in interrelationship with other templated union types

  While working on my basic vector library, I've been trying to use a nice syntax for swizzle-based printing. The problem occurs when attempting to print a swizzle of a different dimension than the vector in question. In GCC 4.0, I originally had the friend << overloaded functions (with a body, even though it duplicated code) for every dimension in each vector, which caused the code to work, even if the non-native dimension code never actually was called. This failed in GCC 4.2. I recently realized (silly me) that only the function declaration was needed, not the body of the code, so I did that. Now I get the same warning on both GCC 4.0 and 4.2: LINE 50 warning: friend declaration 'std::ostream& operator<<(std::ostream&, const VECTOR3<TYPE>&)' declares a non-template function Plus the five identical warnings more for the other function declarations. I followed the advice the compiler gave me (summarized here and described by forums and StackOverflow as the answer to this warning) and added the two things that supposedly tells the compiler what's going on. That is, I added the function definitions as non-friends after the predefinitions of the templated unions: template <typename TYPE> ostream& operator<<(ostream& os, const VECTOR2<TYPE>& toString); template <typename TYPE> ostream& operator<<(ostream& os, const VECTOR3<TYPE>& toString); template <typename TYPE> ostream& operator<<(ostream& os, const VECTOR4<TYPE>& toString); And, to each friend function that causes the issue, I added the <> after the function name, such as for VECTOR2's case: friend ostream& operator<< <> (ostream& os, const VECTOR3<TYPE>& toString); friend ostream& operator<< <> (ostream& os, const VECTOR4<TYPE>& toString); However, doing so leads to errors, such as: LINE 139: error: no match for 'operator<<' in 'std::cout << my2dVector.VECTOR2<float>::xxx' What's going on? Is it something related to how these templated union class-like structures are interrelated, or is it due to the unions themselves? Update After rethinking the issues involved and listening to the various suggestions of Potatoswatter, I found the final solution. Unlike just about every single cout overload example on the internet, I don't need access to the private member information, but can use the public interface to do what I wish. So, I make a non-friend overload functions that are inline for the swizzle parts that call the real friend overload functions. This bypasses the issues the compiler has with templated friend functions. I've added to the latest version of my project. It now works on both versions of GCC I tried with no warnings. • What's causing Remote Access error 807 using rasdial.exe to connect to a PPTP VPN?

  I'm using rasdial.exe to connect an offsite server to our VPN. Remote box is a Windows 2008 x64 server; the VPN host at this end is a Watchguard Firebox x750e running Fireware 10.2 It connects fine about 20-30% of the time. The rest of the time I get: Remote Access error 807 - The network connection between your computer and the VPN server was interrupted. This can be caused by a problem in the VPN transmission and is commonly the result of internet latency or simply that your VPN server has reached capacity. Please try to reconnect to the VPN server. If this problem persists, contact the VPN administrator and analyze quality of network connectivity. For more help on this error: Type 'hh netcfg.chm' In help, click Troubleshooting, then Error Messages, then 807 The VPN isn't full, and it's 100Mb dedicated fibre on both ends so I can't believe it's a connectivity issue - especially since I'm RDP'ed into the remote box whilst trying to do this! However the syslogd daemon has no flags (at least in its man page) that suggests any remote anything. What's the solution to this? Secondary, less import but relevant question: What's 'newsyslog'? • Why would the 'show processlist' command speed up normally slow requests to my remote DB? (connected via VPN)

  I am running a local Django development server that connects to a remote MySQL server via a VPN (IPSec). Request times are awfully slow and I consistently see timeouts. Attempting to diagnose the problem, I logged in to the remote database and ran: show full processlist Immediately, the local server went from idle to working. The page had not yet completely loaded, but progress had been made (debug logs confirm this). When I ran 'show full processlist' several times more in succession, the request completed quickly. I can currently reproduce this - unless I run 'show full processlist' over and over on the remote server, my local request usually times out. Does anyone have any idea why this would happen? I'm running Django 1.3 and OS X 10.7. Note: I realize this may be entirely not be a question with a clear-cut answer and is probably my fault, but it is odd and reproducable, so I hope someone can at least point me the right direction. So I would like to ask if somebody here as experience in working while travelling for example. Or job-hopping from metropolis to metropolis every, say, six months. For example I have been investigating for how to get to Brazil. But it seems like that working as an employee in Brazil would be no option, b/c it takes a lot of time/money/effort to get the proper visas and permissions. So the only practical solution would be to freelance and the just travel, while getting your job done wherever you are. • How to archive data from a table to a local or remote database in SQL 2005 and SQL 2008

  Often you have the need to archive data from a table. This leads to a number of challenges 1. How can you do it without impacting users 2. How can I make it transactionally consistent, i.e. the data I put in the archive is the data I remove from the main table 3. How can I get it to perform well Points 1 is very much tied to point 3. If it doesn't perform well then the delete of data is going to cause lots of locks and thus potentially blocking. For points 1 and 3 refer to my previous posts DELETE-TOP-x-rows-avoiding-a-table-scan and UPDATE-and-DELETE-TOP-and-ORDER-BY---Part2. In essence you need to be removing small chunks of data from your table and you want to do that avoiding a table scan. So that deals with the delete approach but archiving is about inserting that data somewhere else. Well in SQL 2008 they introduced a new feature INSERT over DML (Data Manipulation Language, i.e. SQL statements that change data), or composable DML. The ability to nest DML statements within themselves, so you can past the results of an insert to an update to a merge. I've mentioned this before here SQL-Server-2008---MERGE-and-optimistic-concurrency. This feature is currently limited to being able to consume the results of a DML statement in an INSERT statement. There are many restrictions which you can find here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms177564.aspx look for the section "Inserting Data Returned From an OUTPUT Clause Into a Table" Even with the restrictions what we can do is consume the OUTPUT from a DELETE and INSERT the results into a table in another database. Note that in BOL it refers to not being able to use a remote table, remote means a table on another SQL instance. Refer to the DELETE-TOP-x-rows-avoiding-a-table-scan post to ensure that your delete is going to perform. The last thing you want to do is to perform 100 deletes each with 5000 records for each of those deletes to do a table scan. For a solution that works for SQL2005 or if you want to archive to a different server then you can use linked servers or SSIS. This example shows how to do it with linked servers.   I use to connect to a distant computer running linux from my mac using ssh. For example I use: $ ssh -Y login@host then $ gnome-open . in order to open a nautilus window. This window do open but it looks ugly. I found here that one can install GTK themes through Macports. I installed gtk2-aurora and gtk-chtheme and chose the aurora theme successfully, but my remote windows still look ugly. • How do I remote desktop to my work's Windows box from my Mac at home through VPN?

  I would like to remote desktop from my Macbook to my Work's laptop from home. I connect to the work's network via Cisco VPN. My Cisco VPN clients connects fine in Mac OS X but I am unable to remote desktop. I am also unable to ping my work laptop. The laptop is powered on and not sleeping. I can access it via LogMeIn. If I were to actually pug into our network at the building. I can remote desktop to my work laptop from my Macbook. If I use a Windows virtual machine and connect using the Windows Cisco VPN client, I am able to RDP and ping my work laptop. What is wrong with my OS X VPN connection?
