  • Bootable ISO to USB stick xp wuickest method

    My dog took a leak on my PC when I went out (ye funny), now it reandomly restarts - im convinced the HDD is failing because the Windows seagate diagnostic program fails on a few tests. I want to run this prior to windows in an attempt to try and recover sectors, the program includes an iso which can be written to cd and booted, but i dont have any cd's. I tried using unetbootin to create the bootable usb from the iso file (SeaToolsDOS222ALL.576.ISO) but it doesnt work. When i boot from the usb hdd unetbootin loads with "default" in the menu. No joy booting though. I checked the usb hdd in windows and all the files are there, extracted from the iso file, wont boot though. Any ideas? Im using windows xp, or

    I was given an assigment to create a clean install of Windows 7, take a system image of it and make it a bootable image, so it can be booted from our local server. I've readed a few tutorials, but only one worked so far that it created a .wim . But when I transferred it to the server (Windows 2008 Server), navigated to Boot Images -- Add a new boot image But it says it's not bootable. So how would I create a .wim that is good for the server from a 64bit Windows? I have Windows AIK installed.

    Ok, I hope this is not too much confusing (with my poor English). I want to build a small .Net 4.0 app which monitors several other applications on a Windows Server OR on a regular Windows PC. It will have a WPF GUI with a variety of graphical controls. The app will be used in the following scenarios: If installed on a PC it should run as a “normal” single Windows desktop app If installed on a Server, it should run as a Windows Service. To use/manage the app it must have the same WPF GUI as in scenario 1 and the GUI should be run on the Server or on a remote PC At the moment I consider to write the application logic and connect it to the WPF GUI using a self-hosted WCF Data Service IN BOTH SCENARIOS. Since I’m not a pro developer I suppose it’s possible that I've missed something ;-) Will this work? Are there other/better solutions? Any answer or comment is highly appreciated.

    I currently have a desktop with 6 GPUs ( 3x HD 5970s ) in non-crossfire mode. Unfortunately, it seems that Windows 7 64bit only supports up to 4 GPUs. I have not been able to find a reliable source to deny or confirm this. If windows 7 has this limitation, is there a Linux flavor that supports more than 4 GPUs? In-case you are wondering, this is not for gaming but high-speed single precision computing. With this current setup ( if I can find 6gpu support ) I am looking to reach 13.8 Teraflops. Also, my motherboard does support 3 16x pci-xpress gen2 slots... and I have a 1500w powersupply plugged into a 20amp outlet. Windows is able to detect all 6 cores.. although, 2 of which displays the warning "Drivers failed to load". To recap: - Can windows support 6 GPUs? - If not, does Linux? Thank you.

I typically manage my file structure through Windows' explorer, so using a different type of shortcut (such as creating hard or soft link in git) isn't feasible. How would I navigate through this type of shortcut?   • Can I limit remote desktop to a particular network card?

    I have two routers/internet connections connected to my PC. One is a slower connection with a fixed IP that I use for business, the other is a faster connection I use for day to day surfing. I have to use the fixed IP connection to log onto certain servers (due to security) to work but I'm finding that often my PC will try to use my other internet connection to connect which will get rejected (as it doesn't have the fixed IP). Can I limit remote desktop to use a particular network card to get around this problem. Note: I'm running Windows 7

    A few years ago I saw this in a company but I don't know how it was built. There was 1 Computer (I don't know if Windows Server or plain Windows 7 - the server) and 3 other computers (Windows 7 - the clients). As soon as the Windows 7 clients were started, they all started up the same image (Don't know if the same image file or just the same state) over network and were able to work on the computer. As soon as the machine was shutdown, all the changes made to the system were erased.   • Windows 7: This notification icon is currently not active

    Some time this week, without any major change done to one of my x64 Windows 7 computers, the Media eject icon goes missing in the systray taskbar area. When I attempt to reset the notification settings, i see this "This notification icon is currently not active" info warning Initially KB945011 managed to restore the icon after a reboot. But now it appears to have disappeared again. It seems to have disappeared (cannot really confirm) after I unlock the physical logon session (which was previously rerouted to a virtual Remote Desktop session). Anybody have knowledge on possible causes to this missing behaviour? UPDATE 1 Feb 11 It seems that happens often when I remote desktop to the computer, I see it from the remote screen, but when i unlock the screen physically, it disappears. It would reappear when I connect to remote desktop again. Hmmmmm.

Whilst I could save the password, windows 7 will not use it if the remote system is not fully verified.     Hello HP Mini 210 I am trying to install windows starter 7. Currently I have installed fedora 14 xfce. And I have allocated 24 GB NTFS for hard disk for the windows partition. My current partitions are as follows: /dev/sda2 97G 4.9G 91G 6% / tmpfs 494M 92K 494M 1% /dev/shm /dev/sda1 485M 68M 392M 15% /boot /dev/sda5 169G 26G 135G 16% /home I have created a boot USD to install windows starter 7. When the computer boots into the windows setup and I selected the partition I want to install windows on. I get the following message: "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition." This is setup displaying all my partitions: Disk 0 Partition 1 500MB 0 Primary Disk 0 Partition 2 97.7GB 0 Primary Disk 0 Partition 3 4GB 0 Primary Disk 0 Partition 4 171.3GB 0 Logical Disk 0 Partition 5 24.6GB 24.5 Logical <-- Trying install on this partition NTFS I have also tried to delete the partition in setup and create a new one.   • Windows 8.1 VPN Connection Crash

    I am attempting to connect to a VPN that I have used for quite some time. I followed these instructions to setup my VPN on both my desktop and my surface pro Both my desktop and surface pro have all of the current updates for Windows 8.1. However, my surface pro connects to the VPN without issue and my desktop crashes when I attempt to do ANYTHING VPN related.     I upgraded a 64 bit Windows 7 laptop to Windows 8 through the Upgrade Assistant, creating a bootable USB without any problems. I installed it successfully. Before I purchased an upgrade for my 32 bit Windows 7 laptop, I decided to boot from the USB with the 64 bit ISO to see what happened. The Windows 8 install screen came up with all the options. Should it not have detected that the laptop is 32 bit and therefore the install should have given an error? I cancelled the install before it did anything, but now I want to know if I need to download the iso again after purchasing the upgrade on my 32 bit laptop? I've read the answers to this question, which confirms what is said in this article - a 32 or 64 bit iso will be downloaded depending on the hardware of the computer you are upgrading. If that is the case, then why did it boot into the install screen?

    I'm using Windows 7 and Windows Explorer some folders were added to the taskbar jump list (under the Frequent section) that no longer exist. When I try to remove those folders from the jump list (using context menu's "Remove from this list" option) nothing happens and the folders are still shown. When I try to access those non-existing folders windows prompts that selected item is not available and asks whether I want to remove it from the list. Regardless if I select "Yes" or "No" the folder still remains in the list.

  • Blank desktop after updates today, only unity2d works now [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: Unity doesn't load, no Launcher, no Dash appears I have been using 12.04 (wubi) since a week now and this is my 1st exposure to linux. Everything was going on fine till now , but today as soon as I updated through the update manager , docky gave a message that compositing is required or something, and i got an error window which asked me to report the error and then the update manager asked me to reboot. After rebooting , i just get a blank desktop screen , no launcher, no toolbar. I have to restart with the power key. However if i login through Unity 2d everything is fine except the benefits of the 3d environment. I guess something got messed up after the update and i cant figure out which program or file caused this mess. I would highly appreciate if someone could help me out with this as I really liked working on ubuntu after windows 7. Thanks! SOLVED-- Thanks @jrg for the link provided.. it helped me to come out of this mess. Actually some update of compizconfig made the unity plugin inactive did something to the Animation add ons , the one which you use for the burn effect etc. What i did was : On the blank desktop Pressed keys Ctrl + Alt + T to bring up the terminal and typed ccsm This brought up the compiz config system manager, there i enabled the unity plugin and rebooted. Everything started working fine. But then again when i started the addons plugin ,everything went back to square one.. :( . This time pressing Ctrl + Alt + T also did not help. Then i tried Ctrl + Alt + F1 , it brought up a terminal or whatever u call it, and then i typed unity --reset , it did some resetting and in the end it showed some comositing done , I pressed Ctrl + Alt + F7 to come back to the desktop , and here it was , my old sweet desktop.. it had the animation effects too like wobbly windows, excepting the addons like the burn effect, i guess something got wrong with the last update of that addon plugin and now whenever i try turning that on , everything goes poof!! 6 hours wasted , but i guess i learnt something new.. not bad for an orthodontist i guess :))
