• Urlscan 3.1 block User Agent

  I need to block requests from certain User Agents to our Sharepoint Environment that have been identified after going through the IIS logs. I have tried the below by amending the urlscan.ini config file and doing and iisreset, but it doesn't block anything. Am I entering the correct strings? I'm copying user agent string from the iis logs http://blogs.msdn.com/rakkimk/archive/2009/06/12/urlscan-rejecting-the-request-depending-on-the-user-agent-string.aspx

  I have a webservice in IIS. I'm trying to call a function but i get an errormessage like: There was no channel that could accept the message with action 'http://Datenlotsen.Cyquest/ICyquestService/ValidateSelfAssessment' I'm hosting it in an IIS in the standard website. There I created a virtual directory named "CyQuestwebservice". For the client side config i'm using Soap UI. • How to send email from an EC2 instance using GoDaddy's SMTP server?

  SMTP is a whole new ballgame for me, but I am reading up on it. I am attempting to send email from my EC2 instance using GoDaddy's SMTP server. My domain name is registered through GoDaddy and I have 2 email accounts with them. I can successfully send the email from my dev box no problem. my web.config <system.net> <mailSettings> <smtp from="[email protected]" deliveryMethod="Network"> <network host="smtpout.secureserver.net" clientDomain="mydomain.com" port="25" userName="[email protected]" password="mypassword" defaultCredentials="false" /> </smtp> </mailSettings> </system.net> In my ASP.NET app: MailMessage mailMessage = new MailMessage("[email protected]", recipientEmail, emailSubject, body); mailMessage.IsBodyHtml = false; SmtpClient mailClient = new SmtpClient(); mailClient.Send(mailMessage); Very typical, simple use of System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient. The mail client is picking up the settings from my web.config as expected. All GoDaddy smtp situations I have found involve people being hosted by GoDaddy using their relay server. Some more info: My EC2 instance is Windows Server 2008 with IIS 7. The app is running in .NET 4 I can successfully use Gmail's SMTP server on the EC2 instance by using their port, setting SmtpClient.EnableSsl to true, and sending the mail through a gmail account. But we want to send the email from an account on our domain. I have port 25 open on both the Windows firewall and Amazon's Security group based firewall. I have played with Wireshark and noticed my SMTP related traffic was talking to ports in the 5,000s, so out of desperation I opened them all up to no avail (then closed them back down) As far as I know my EC2 instance's IP address is not black listed by GoDaddy. I have a feeling I'm just missing something fundamental. I also have a feeling someone is going to recommend I use AuthSmtp or something similar, I'll agree, and have had wasted the past 6 hours :)

Running depends.exe on all three servers gives equal results for the nonR2 servers: My DLL is shown as x86 (compiled as AnyCPU, running in x64 w3wp), all other modules show as x64. Missing IESHIMS.DLL and LINKINFO.DLL - both of these seem to be red herrings according to Google. So far I'll let it run in this way to see if this changes anything. I'm in doubt however given that the third server is not exhibiting the problems, yet still has "Load user profile" set to the same value, false. I've also tried running Fuslogvw on all three servers, logging binding failures to disk. All three servers report the same binding errors for VJSharpCodeProvider and CppCodeProvider, but these seem to be normal as well and can be solved by not defining the DEBUG and TRACE constants during build. We're running about 500 websites on each server (identical, load balanced), of which 50 are under moderate load, the problem has arisen both under heavy load as well as under minimal load however. Right now I'm waiting for the errors to happen again so I can hopefully see a pattern and determine whether "Load user profile" alleviates the issue. Any suggestions in the meantime would be very welcome! Also, I don't understand how the lack of "Load user profile" would cause an issue like this? And even further, how it would seemingly work on R2 but not on plain 2008? Thanks!

• SSL / HTTP / No Response to Curl

  I am trying to send commands to a SOAP service, and getting nothing in reply. The SOAP service is at a completely separate site from either server I am testing with. I have written a dummy script with the SOAP XML embedded. When I run it at my local site, on any of three machines -- OSX, Ubuntu, or CentOS 5.3 -- it completes successfully with a good response. I then sent the script to our public host at Slicehost, where I fail to get the response back from the SOAP service. It accepts the TCP socket and proceeds with the SSL handshake. I do not however receive any valid HTTP response. This is the case whether I use my script or curl on the command line. I have rewritten the script using SOAP4R, Net::HTTP and Curb. All of which work at my local site, none of which work at the Slicehost site. I have tried to assemble the CentOS box as closely to match my Slicehost server as possible. I rebuilt the Slice to be a stock CentOS 5.3 and stock CentOS 5.4 with the same results. When I look at a tcpdump of the bad sessions on Slicehost, I see my script or curl send the XML to the remote server, and nothing comes back. When I look at the tcpdump at my local site, I see the response just fine. I have entirely disabled iptables on the Slice. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing these results? • .NET Web Service (asmx) Timeout Problem

  I'm connecting to a vendor-supplied web ASMX service and sending a set of data over the wire. My first attempt hit the 1 minute timeout that Visual Studio throws in by default in the app.config file when you add a service reference to a project. I increased it to 10 minutes, another timeout. 1 hour, another timeout: Error: System.TimeoutException: The request channel timed out while waiting for a reply after 00:59:59.6874880. Increase the timeout value passed to the call to Request or increase the SendTimeout value on the Binding. The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout. ---> System.TimeoutE xception: The HTTP request to 'http://servername/servicename.asmx' has exceeded the allotted timeout of 01:00:00. The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout. ---> System.Net.WebExcept ion: The operation has timed out at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() [... lengthly stacktrace follows] I contacted the vendor. They confirmed the call may take over an hour (don't ask, they are the bane of my existence.) I increased the timeout to 10 hours to be on the safe side. However the web service call continues to time out at 1 hour. • Primary IDE Channel: Ultra DMA Mode 5 >> PIO Mode

  Hi, my netbook was having huge audio lag and just abnormally slow processing. After doing some searching on the internet, I found out that I needed to uninstall/reinstall the Primary IDE Channel found under the IDE controller section in the Device Manager. I would then set the Transfer Mode to DMA if available and everything would be great. For a period of time, I would see that "Ultra DMA Mode 5" was the current transfer mode, but every so often, it'd revert back to "PIO Mode", which is when it's really laggy. What can I do to prevent the Primary IDE Channel to revert from Ultra DMA Mode to PIO Mode? Also, my netbook has BSODed a few times when it is in PIO Mode, without any real explanation. I have a Samsung N120. Specs are as follows: http://www.samsung.com/ca/consumer/office/mobile-computing/netbook/NP-N120-KA01CA/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=spec&fullspec=F. Only difference is that I have upgraded to 2.0 GB of DDR2 RAM. EDIT: For all who are looking for an answer to this problem, click the link in Kythos's answer and look at number 6 (Re-enable DMA using the Registry Editor). This always works for me now. If on reboot, you seem to only have a black screen after XP is loading, just wait... it is still loading and will show signs of life after 2-3 minutes.

I want to use L2E since it s very convenient to my company's apps, I created a demo project, the demo does run on every machine but when I, lets say, press a button that has some code that uses the entity I get this error: specified store provider cannot be found in the configuration, or is not valid. note that I get this error only on machines that does not have VS2008 installed, on these machines (the ones with VS2008) the demo works well. any advice is appreciated. I am using MySql server with Mysql Conector 6.3 and the model is created with ADO.Net entitiy model. Now I have pulled that app (which sat for 2 years) off the shelf of TFS and onto a new PC and cannot seem to get it running.
