  • What are the performance implications of wildcard mapping all requests through IIS 6.0?

    I am interested in using UrlRewriter.NET and noticed in the config page for IIS 6.0 on Win2k3, that they say to map all requests through the ASP.NET ISAPI. That's fine, but I am wondering if anyone has good or bad things to say about this performance wise? Is my web server going to be dragged down to its knees by doing this or will it be more of a small step up in server load? My server currently has room to breathe now, so some performance hit is expected and acceptable.

  • Publishing WCF .NET 3.5 to IIS 6 (Windows Server 2003)

    I've been developing a WCF web service using .NET 3.5 with IIS7 and it works perfectly on my local computer. I tried publishing it to a server running IIS 6 and even though I can view the WSDL in my browser, the client application doesn't seem to be connecting to it correctly. I launched a packet sniffing app (Charles Proxy) and the response for the first message comes back to the client empty (0 bytes). Every message after the first one times out. The WCF service is part of a larger application that uses ASP .NET 3.5. That application has been working fine on IIS 6 for awhile now so I think it's something specific to WCF. I also tried throwing an exception in the SVC file to see if it made it that far and the exception never got thrown so I have a feeling it's something more low level that's not working. Any thoughts? Is there anything I need to install on the IIS5 server? If so how am I still able to view the WSDL in my browser?   • Why do I get a NullPointerException when initializing Spring

    Hi guys, I've got a problem running a batch job on my server, whereas it runs fine from Eclipse on my development workstation. I've got my Spring environment set up using Roo, made an entity, and make a batch that does some work, and test it well on my develompent box. I initialize my context and do the work, but when I run my batch on the server, the context isn't initialized properly.     Hi, I get the chromium source and I am able to compile it fine under MaxOS X. My question is why every time I power off my laptop and then re-open my XCode project and click 'Build and Go (Debug)', XCode recompiles EVERYTHING (even I have not modified any file). Is there any way to config to compile when needed? Thank you for any suggestion.

Because there are no RPM available currently for SQLite latest version (v3.7.3), I created RPM using rpmbuild the very first time by following the instructions given here. I was able to successfully create RPM for 64-bit (x86_64) architecture. But am not able to create RPM for 32-bit (i386) architecture.   • ADO 2.8, VMWare and SQL Server - sudden bulk dropped connections

    We have an overworked server currently running a single SQL Server 2000 instance on physical hardware, and about 40 different apps interact with it on a daily basis. Last year, the RAID controller failed and we had no spare, so IT Support hurriedly migrated it overnight to a copy running on a VMWare Server. While it was on that server everything ran much quicker due to it being a big improvement in spec. However, the biggest app using it had occasional serious errors which never occurred on physical hardware. Specifically, several times a week it would disconnect batches of users - anywhere from just ten to hundreds at once, and all at the same time. It didn't affect any particular users or PCs or offices - all were affected equally. The only common thing was the app, which is a VB6 app using ADO 2.8 to connect. The other apps connecting to that virtualised instance of SQL Server seemingly had no problems, although they were (and are) responsible for only a tiny fraction of the work involving this server. The upshot is that after about two weeks of loving the speed and hating the random mass disconnections (which we were never able to find a cause for), we sadly took the decision to return to physical hardware and the disconnections vanished. Now we've reached the point where the old server just can't handle all that's being asked of it, and we're intending to migrate everything to 2 or more other servers. The snag is that there's a good chance they'll have to be virtual ones again. Given what happened last time, I'm trying to find out what possible reasons there could be for these mass disconnections. We were running VMWare ESX, but the network is Novell-based. Also, the server had a linked server setup to connect to an Informix server using a known-to-be-buggy ODBC driver, and this is used throughout the day. Any ideas on the cause(s)?

    According to the Spring documentation, By default, the dm Server trace file is called $SERVER_HOME/serviceability/logs/dm-server/log_i.log ... The index i varies from 1 to 4, on a rolling basis, as each log file exceeds 10Mb. I'm aware that the default trace file name can be changed in server.config. Is it possible to change the number of log files that are kept before rolling over and/or the maximum log file size? How?

    I'm trying to get SSL, WCF and REST under Azure, but the page won't even load. Here are the steps I followed: 1) I mapped the www.mydomain.com CNAME to my azuresite.cloudapp.net 2) I procured an SSL certificate for www.mydomain.com and properly installed it at my azuresite.cloudapp.net hosted service project 3) I deployed my WCF REST service to Azure and started it. Below is my web.config configuration. The http (non-https) binding version worked correctly. My service URL, http: //www.mydomain .com/service.svc/sessions worked just fine. When I deployed the project with the web.config below, enabling SSL, https: //www.mydomain .com/service.svc/sessions does not even pull up at all. If i up the subclasses in xml all is well, but not from code.   • Rebuild Apple RAID set

    We have a Mac Pro tower with an Apple RAID card in it using third party drives. When one drive failed, we replaced it and the RAID 5 set was nearly done rebuilding when the computer was rebooted. It did not come back up. We are now booting up off of a different internal volume, and have three (third-party) drives of identical spec (including revision and firmware) in the box. One of the drives is a global spare; the other two are recognized as belong to a RAID set but are in "Roaming" mode. The intention is to recreate the three-drive RAID set using the data on the two drives that are good. When we tell the system to create a RAID 5 using the three drives, it tells us that it'll create a RAID set but everything will be lost. There are no obvious options to rebuild a RAID using the two good drives and incorporating the third drive in Apple's RAID Utility, and we've looked through the options for the raidutil command. Fortunately, all important data is backed up, and we can rebuild from scratch, but, is there any way to make the RAIDset work again?

Can I use the default configuration directory (where 'config.ini' is usually stored) for this purpose? If so, how can I get a File instance to this location programmatically? I also note that this directory does not exist in my Eclipse IDE. Thanks.

  • 3 Servers, is this is a cluster?

    Hello, At the moment I have one Ubuntu server, 9.10, running with a simple Samba share, a mail server, DNS server and DHCP server. Mostly its just there for file sharing and email server. I also have 2 other servers that are exactly the same hardware and spec as the first, which have an rsync set up to retrieve the shared folders and backs them up. However, if the first server goes down, all of our shares disappear along with our mail and the system must be rebuilt. Also I tend to find if people are downloading a large amount from the file server, no-one can access there emails - especially in the morning when everyone is signing in at once. Would it be more beneficial for me to have all 3 servers, all running the same services, doing the same thing with some sort of cluster with load balancing? I'm not really sure where to begin looking, or how to go about such a setup where 3 servers are all identical, but perhaps one acts as the main load balancer?? If someone can point me in the right direction, or if this simply sounds like one of those Enterprise Cloud's that is now a default setup in Ubuntu Server 9.10+, then I'll go down that route.
