  • What free tools or strategies can help debug a multi-threading corruption bug?

    I have a client server application with multi-threading. The server side is failing with a std::list getting corrupted resulting in a SEGV. I suspect that there is some kind of cross thread timing issue going on where the two threads are updating the std::list at the same time and causing it to be corrupted. Please suggest free tools to track this down or strategies that might be helpful.

  • Strange results - I obtain same value for all keys

    I have a problem with mapreduce. Giving as input a list of song ("Songname"#"UserID"#"boolean") i must have as result a song list in which is specified how many time different useres listen them... so a output ("Songname","timelistening"). I used hashtable to allow only one couple . With short files it works well but when I put as input a list about 1000000 of records it returns me the same value (20) for all records.     I wrote a program using tcpip sockets to send commands to a device and receive the data from the device. The data size would be around 200kB to 600KB. The computer is directly connected to the device using a 100MB network. I found that the sending packets always arrive at the computer at 100MB/s speed (I have debugging information on the unit and I also verified this using some network monitoring software), but the receiving time differs a lot from 40ms to 250ms, even if the size is the same (I have a receiving buffer about 700K and the receiving window of 8092 bytes and changing the window size does not change anything). The phenomena differs also on different computers, but on the same computer the problem is very stable. For example, receiving 300k bytes on computer a would be 40ms, but it may cost 200ms on another computer. I have disabled firewall, antivirus, all other network protocol except the TCP/IP. Any experts on this can give me some hints?

    I'm rewriting some code to make a program compile with the gfortran compiler as opposed to ifort compiler I usually use. (.Not.ISHFT(1,ADDR1))) .Or. ISHFT(BITS,ADDR1) End_ When I compile the above code using the gfortran compiler, I recieve this error: WORD = (WORD .And. (.Not.ISHFT(1,ADDR1))) .Or. ISHFT(BITS,ADDR1) Error: Operand of .NOT. operator at (1) is INTEGER(4) All three of the variables coming into the subroutine are integers. I've looked around a bit and the gfortran wiki states that the gfortran compiler should be able to handle logical statments being applied to integer values. Several other sites I've visited either quote from the gnu wiki or agree with it. This is the first time I've seen this error as the Intel Fortran compiler (ifort) I normally use compiles cleanly.

    One thing asked for a lot with sIFR is hyphenation. Now I almost solved it with integrating Hyphenator.as http://vis4.net/blog/2010/05/as3-hyphenation/. The only problem is that Hyphenator.as is written in AcionScript 3, while sIFR is in ActionScript 2. I found an AS2 to AS3 converter www.5etdemi.com/blog/archives/2006/11/as2-to-as3-converter-createtextfield-geturl-handling/ but the result examples.bezel.be/sIFR-as3.as is not working yet. Anyone able to contribute to making hyphenation work in sIFR? (Sorry for the links, but weirdly I am only allowed to post one link. Really weird.)
