  • iPhone Development - Query related records using CoreData

    I have a case where i have three entities with one-to-many and one-to-many relationships: Entity A (Entity B relationhip), Entity B (Entity A relationship, Entity C relationship), Entity C (Entity B relationhip) I have the reference of Entity A, and now i want to fetch all the related Entity C records. How can i do that? (with least amount of code) Edit: Here's another way to put it. Can we perform joins with CoreData. For example, (and this is a very crude example), We have a following entity-relationship: Grand Parent (1)---(m) Parent Parent (1)---(m) Child So, now if i have "Albert" the Grand Parent, and i want to get all his grand children, how can i do that?

  • Login to SQL Server Express via development environment (VS2010)

    Seems like I'm missing something simple, but my attempts to connect to SQL Server Express have failed. I feel like I need to add privileges for my account but I'm not sure where to do it. Dev Env: VS 2010 (Web) SQL: Sql Server Express 2008 OS: XP Trying to open a connection to database returns: Cannot open database "|DataDirectory|DropData.mdf" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'devel.' I created the database using the interface in VS 2010 (Add new item - DB File) but my ASP.Net class only covered design-time access and not access in code, so I'm not familiar with what to do. I created a user (Devel) using SQL Server Management Studio to avoid connecting as SA, but couldn't figure out how to give any SQL-level access rights to this account. Any ideas? Thanks, Cameron

What's the best way for a web page to talk to a service?

  • process of connecting RTP with SIP via SDP & land lines

    Hello to everyone, I have a problem with starting a media session and to combine it with my SIP client. I've designed a recursive SIP client that reuse the same request template to send the next requests to server, according to the acceptable sequences noted in the RFC's, and examples that I read. as far as I could tell the SIP part is working fine registers to server invites, and authenticates. I didn't complete any calls to clients yet because of the content header needs to be filled up (which I didn't yet so I get a 503 from the server which is OK I guess). for a long time I didn't know where to start with the media session, and slowly learned how to use the JMF and I've constructed an object that handles RTP transmitting, now I'm standing at the cross road, on the one hand I have my SIP signaling but it needs the SDP content header to complete the invite, and on the other I have the RTP which is knows how to p2p. For me to complete my design I require your help with the following questions: Is there an easy//a simple//an implemented way to convert the Audio/Video format from the JMF into SDP media headers? or even a generator that I would input all the parameters for the content header, and it would generate a content header fast, or do I have to implement this myself? Once I've finished constructing the SDK and the SIP is up and running and I get an OK response from the server (after ringing and all), how do I start the media session? do I connect p2p according to caller details I send in the SIP invite? If 2 is correct, then how does a connection to land lines would be? does land lines knows that once they send an OK back to server they listen/start RTP session on a specific port? Or did I get everything wrong? :-/ I really appreciate any help I could I get, I looked every where for answers but they are not clear, they ignore question 2 as if it was an obvious thing, but for me it just isn't.     A friend has begged our consulting firm several times to build an iPhone app. We are reluctant to jeopardize the friendship and charge market rates. At the same time, we're so busy it would be imprudent not to charge fairly. We tried referring her to other shops, but she doesn't feel comfortable with anyone but us. How do people charge friends? Since I'm asking about fees, I'm also curious to know if people charge on a fixed-price basis or hourly basis? Thanks!

  • iPhone Development: Get images from RSS feed

    I am using the NSXMLParser to get new RSS stories from a feed and am displaying them in a UITableView. However now I want to take ONLY the images, and display them in a UIScrollView/UIImageView (3 images side-by side). I am completely lost. I am using the following code to obtain 1 image from a URL. What would you recommend I do to accomplish this?

  • Need an ASP.NET MVC long running process with user feedback

    I've been trying to create a controller in my project for delivering what could turn out to be quite complex reports. As a result they can take a relatively long time and a progress bar would certainly help users to know that things are progressing. The report will be kicked off via an AJAX request, with the idea being that periodic JSON requests will get the status and update the progress bar. I've been experimenting with the AsyncController as that seems to be a nice way of running long processes without tying up resources, but it doesn't appear to give me any way of checking on the progress (and seems to block further JSON requests and I haven't discovered why yet). After that I've tried resorting to storing progress in a static variable on the controller and reading the status from that - but to be honest that all seems a bit hacky! All suggestions gratefully accepted!

    Suppose I have a bulleted list like this: * list item 1 * list item 2 (a parent) ** list item 3 (a child of list item 2) ** list item 4 (a child of list item 2 as well) *** list item 5 (a child of list item 4 and a grand-child of list item 2) * list item 6 I'd like to parse that into a nested list or some other data structure which makes the parent-child relationship between elements explicit (rather than depending on their contents and relative position). For example, here's a list of tuples containing an item and a list of its children (and so forth): [('list item 1',), ('list item 2', [('list item 3',), [('list item 4', [('list item 5'),]] ('list item 6',)] I've attempted to do this with plain Python and some experimentation with Pyparsing, but I'm not making progress. I'm left with two major questions: What's the strategy I need to employ to make this work? I know recursion is part of the solution, but I'm having a hard time making the connection between this and, say, a Fibonacci sequence. I'm certain I'm not the first person to have done this, but I don't know the terminology of the problem to make fruitful searches for more information on this topic. What problems are related to this so that I can learn more about solving these kinds of problems in general?

  • XAMPP or MAMP on Mac OS X 10.6.2 (Snow Leopard)

    I just bought a new MacBook Pro which comes with Snow Leopard 10.6.2 (Mac OS X 10.6.2). I am used to using XAMPP as my local development server on XP. Since Mac OS X is based on Unix, I was thinking on activating/installing all the necessary stuff as I would normally do on Linux. However, I am not quite ready to be playing around with the system at this point so having an external package would be a nice temporary solution I think. The question is whether I should go with MAMP or XAMPP. Does anybody have any suggestions? The Pro and Cons I suppose. As far as I know, Mac OS X comes with Apache2 and PHP5. Would MAMP or XAMPP modify the existing Apache and PHP installation? Any comments on how I should proceed? PS: Eventually I would use the default installation of Apache and PHP, and install a binary package of MySQL but time for development is an essence and I don't have time to familiarize myself with Mac OS X.

    I am doing my first steps with TDD. The problem is (as probably with everyone starting with TDD), I never know very well what kind of unit tests to do when I start working in my projects. Let's assume I want to write a Stack class with the following methods(I choose it as it's an easy example): Stack<T> - Push(element : T) - Pop() : T - Seek() : T - Count : int - IsEmpty : boolean How would you approch this? I never understood if the idea is to test a few corner cases for each method of the Stack class or start by doing a few "use cases" with the class, like adding 10 elements and removing them. What is the idea? To make code that uses the Stack as close as possible to what I'll use in my real code? Or just make simple "add one element" unit tests where I test if IsEmpty and Count were changed by adding that element? How am I supposed to start with this?

    As part of our build process and evolving database, I'm trying to create a script which will remove all of the tables and sequences for a user. I don't want to do recreate the user as this will require more permissions than allowed. My script creates a procedure to drop the tables/sequences, executes the procedure, and then drops the procedure. I'm executing the file from sqlplus: drop.sql: create or replace procedure drop_all_cdi_tables is cur integer; begin cur:= dbms_sql.OPEN_CURSOR(); for t in (select table_name from user_tables) loop execute immediate 'drop table ' ||t.table_name|| ' cascade constraints'; end loop; dbms_sql.close_cursor(cur); cur:= dbms_sql.OPEN_CURSOR(); for t in (select sequence_name from user_sequences) loop execute immediate 'drop sequence ' ||t.sequence_name; end loop; dbms_sql.close_cursor(cur); end; / execute drop_all_cdi_tables; / drop procedure drop_all_cdi_tables; / Unfortunately, dropping the procedure causes a problem.   • Blackberry development on scripting language ?

    From what I've seen, the preferred way to develop Blackberry applications is Java. Is this the only way? I'm dreaming of a rapid application environment where you can create GUIs (using the Blackberry UI components). Something like a port of Tcl/Tk on Blackberry... or Python/Tkinter... or something new, but similar. Does something like that exist ? (I doubt it) Can something like that exist ? (i.e., given the money, is it feasible/reasonable/...)

    I want to use EC2 for some reasons and EC2 provides both windows and linux deployments, but linux is much cheaper (linux reserved instances are approx. %63-%85 price of windows ones and spot instances are %50 cheaper for linux). I need a type safe lang and mainstream platform and I prefer to use .net/c# stack (but not mono for some reasons), but in this situation java seems a better fit for the future (when ec2 instance counts begin to increase).     Hey all, I am new to web development and have this project in hand where in I have to build a product catalogue. I don't want any cart functionality or other such features, I just want to display the products,their specifications and images etc. on the website and give my client an admin panel to manage products. Now I looked into various PHP shopping cart scripts but couldn't find a way to remove price info from the display. I am not experienced enough in web development to make a product catalogue from scratch so if you guys could point me out in right direction I would be very grateful.
