Tens of thousands of Arkansas National Guard soldiers became the latest victims of a security breach at a military base after an unencrypted external hard drive was discovered missing last month.
In an office I've got a network connection with 5 external IPs and a Linksys router (I'm not 100% percent sure of the model). I need 4 of those 5 IPs to be routed to a server, and the fifth to be shared between the other computers at the office.
This can probably be done using a switch in front of the router. Connect the server and the router to the switch, and let the router handle the rest of the network.
Is there a way to configure the router to route the 4 IPs to the server, and create an internal network the the other computers at the same time?
Using Eclipse, I can open a Java source file with an external editor by right-clicking on the file name (in the Package Explorer) and selecting Open With ... - emacsclient.
I'm very glad to be able to do that. However, I only want to do that sometimes, not every time. Now, when I double-click on that same file name, I always automatically get the file opened in emacsclient. This is particularly annoying when I use the Open Type dialog to find a file, because in that case it's not possible to right-click and choose the default Eclipse editor.
Is there a way to make Eclipse forget that I previously opened a particular file with emacsclient, so that it can go back to the default behavior of using the regular Eclipse editor?
Oracle's Master Data Management suite has seen remarkable development progress in the past year and a half. Leveraging out-of-the-box integration to applications provided by Application Integration Architecture, the cost, risk and time it takes to implement an MDM solution has been cut in half. Oracle Applications are now 'MDM Aware', Data Quality tools have reached state-of-the-art status, and new hubs are coming on line. In this AppsCast, Pascal Laik, VP MDM Products discusses this progress, what it means for Oracle customers, and where we are going from here.
JavaMail requires that you specify an external SMTP server when sending mail. I want to have my java app send email directly without having to use an external SMTP server such as postfix or sendmail.
Can anyone recommend a library which provides this kind of functionality?
Ive done some googling and have come up with nothing.
Mac OS X Server 10.4.11 connected to an AD domain system serving AFP shares to Mac OS X 10.5.8.
If I create a share on the the internal RAID of the server with an ACL that allows RW to all ("Domain Users"), then it works, but a share created identically on the external RAID appliance (Drobo v2) doesn't. When the share from the Drobo is mounted, it shows no sign that it has any ACLs associated with it: neither in the Finder (Get Info), nor when checked via the terminal with "ls -lae". The Drobo does show that the ACLs exist when I ssh into the server and check it there, but when the clients mount that share, they just... ...disappear.
Any thoughts?
Choosing a long term data storage medium isn';t as easy as you may think. You might imagine that the data could be burnt to CD, locked in a cupboard and that it would last forever however unfortunatel... [Author: Chris Holgate - Computers and Internet - April 02, 2010]
Hello there,
I have a very odd situation, I have a server (let's call it X) running 2008 R2 with two NIC's in it, one is connected to the work domain and has a subnet of 192.168.10.0/24 the other is connected to a ADSL connection and has a subnet of 192.168.1.0/24. The server has IIS installed.
On the ADSL connection I have setup a dynamic dns and port forwarding to allow external HTTP, HTTPS, FTP and RDP connections. FTP and RDP are working fine however neither HTTP or HTTPS are working at all.
I can browse the websites by going to localhost on the machine, the HTTP and HTTPS ports appear as "Filtered" when I try to scan them using PortQueryUI and browsers respond with a "Server took too long to load or was not responding" error.
This was working fine just a few days ago, Windows firewall is disabled I don't have any software firewall on it. And I'm really lost.
Any help would be great.
I have a data.frame:
df<-data.frame(a=c("x","x","y","y"),b=c(1,2,3,4))
> df
a b
1 x 1
2 x 2
3 y 3
4 y 4
What's the easiest way to print out each pair of values as a list of strings like this:
"x1", "x2", "y1", "y2"
I recently got a new HP Probook 6550b laptop for work. However, very often, when left alone (not put to sleep), the built in display will go dark. Not only that, but whenever I plug in an external monitor, the display will blank out as well.
Sometimes after this happens, putting the laptop to sleep and then waking it up solves the problem. But only sometimes and only for a short time. The next time I plug in my monitor, it happens again.
I know this isn't only my problem - 6 other people got the same laptop as I have at the same time, and we're all having such issues.
Any suggestions as to the root of this problem and a way to fix it? It's driving me crazy!
I would like to use encryption on my external HDD but I would like to be able to access the encrypted data from Windows as well. As suggested in other questions, TrueCrypt is one option here, or I am using momentarily encfs, which is not available for Windows.
But my question goes further: I would like to be able to access the encrypted partition from Windows without installation as I will be using it from different Windows machines for which I have no administrator access. My main OS is Linux and I have full root access to that computer.
Is there a full disk or file based encryption which I can use cross platform and which does not require installation under Windows?
ADDITION:
It seems that TrueCrypt provides a portable mode which fulfills my requirements partly: http://www.truecrypt.org/docs/?s=truecrypt-portable, but still the TrueCrypt driver needs to be installed by an administrator... pitty
Thanks

My client wants to standardize address information for existing and future addresses collected for their customers, particularly the street suffixes. The application used to enter and collect address information has the street suffix separated from the address field, but it is a textbox instead of a drop down list therefore things are not standardized. I know there are some options out there to standarize data, but they would like a less expensive alternative. Are there any functions in SQL Server that I can use to standardized data?
I have an external hard disk which has 1 partition, formatted in NTFS. I use this drive on multiple computers with a different logins on different machines, Windows XP and Windows 7. All files are plain old files, not OS encrypted or compressed.
Every now and then Windows 7 does not let me access some files, citing permission problems. I can circumvent this per case by taking ownership and setting appropriate permissions. This, however, is tedious. Is there a simple way to tell Windows to not enforce or store any permissions on any file/directory on a partition?
We have a small home setup with a Technicolor TG582n on Plusnet ISP. We have a Samba4 DC with DNS forwarding enabled. The DC forwards to the Technicolor. However, the client machines have their DNS settings manually set. This is an annoyance when using laptops on other networks.
We would like to have DHCP handled on the server machine, such that when a client connects to the Technicolor, it gets its IP and DNS information from the DHCP server, eliminating the need to manually set adapter DNS settings.
However, I cannot find an option to disable DHCP on the Technicolor and am not completely clear on how one would point DHCP services to the server from the Technicolor if there were the option.
So, how would one make the Technicolor use an external server for DHCP leases?

HI,
We have an internal web server which is available through Internet and from local network. The server is located in the local network.
The current configuration is the following:
To access through Internet you use http://webexample.com
To access through Local Network you use http://myweb
The main problem is that the local users cannot share links with external users. Thats a problem for us.
I want to setup the following configuration:
All users (local and Internet) access through http://webexample.com
The local DNS server resolves http://webexample.com to the local Network IP (i.e 192.168.2.100)
Any other suggestion? Which is the best way to override http://webexample.com resolution in Windows Server? It can be done on DNS server or it have to be done in hosts file?
States are passing more and more data security laws, the US Senate and the House have bills meandering through Congress, securing personal information and encrypting that data is no longer optional.
I have a 2TB WD Black drive and would like to simply do a straight clone from a failing 3TB drive to it. Both are SATA. Will I be able to just install the new drive alongside the faulty one and then do the clone/rescue attempt with ddrescue or is there a better method?
The faulty internal drive mentioned has bed sectors although am usually able to boot into Windows 7 Ultimate with it and navigate and access all my programs.
I have been attempting some trials with an Ubuntu Live CD using ddrescue but am not sure I'm doing it right. I have a 3TB WD my book essential external which is GPT and have created a separate 2TB partition on it which I am trying to clone to.
I assume I need to format the new drive first to NTFS? Can I do that via the Ubuntu Rescue Remix 12-04 live DVD that I've been booting with?
I want to broadcast live video from a playlist created by me, but the actual video files (.flv's) are stored in some external file hosting which I can't admin, but it's currently allowing the use of flash players for playing its contents (progressively).
Which is the best solution for this? Can I use my current web server (Debian w/Apache) or should I use some specific server software? I've read some names such as Red5 and Wowza but I can't tell if those are solutions to my actual problem or how should I use them. Also, costs should be as low as possible for this project.
I am booting a certain system of mine with ubuntu 9.10 from external HDD.
I am satisfied with the setup and it works fine, however I would like to modify it so that I can choose which graphic card drivers to load during the boot time.
Specifically I would like to choose between:
nvidia proprietary driver
ati proprietary driver
generic driver
Currently if I am using proprietary drivers then dont boot into X, delete xorg.conf, start gdm and reconfigure the system using jockey (for hardware drivers).
What would be the steps to make this (semi-)automatic and avoid restarting X?
Hi,
Is is possible to populate data on an external website (example mail.yahoo.com) and subsequently submit the page by using javascript executed from my own webpage? Or is there another way to do this. I am trying to figure out how to do an autologin function into external website.
Thanks.
Hi, what I want to do is have a PHP script run a program and have it retrieve data somehow from it. For instance the program would parse data from a file and return the data for the PHP script to display.
So far I know to call exec("Program.exe"); but would I have to make it create a file with the data then have the PHP script call fopen and get it that way? Is there a better way to do it? Thanks
I have a Thomson 585V6 router which has built in voip support. I want to be able to use a softphone to make calls. for example phone my dad's mobile. Any incomming calls to my normal bt number should be taken via my pc as well.
What I have done so far:
I've wired the pstn port on the router to the telephone jack. The router is connected to my pc. I have installed asterisk on the pc I want to take calls on. The sip client authenticates to the sip server.
output from twinkle:
Sun 22:46:45
home, registration succeeded (expires = 3600 seconds)
how do I take external calls/ answer incoming calls from pstn?
