  • Can't delete a directory on external drive (OS X)

    I have a brand new Transcend StoreJet 25M3 (external HDD) mounted to MacBook (Leopard 10.5.8) at /Volumes/Transcend. I copied some data from my old Windows (XP) machine on it, and now, after cleaning some stuff up, I wanted to delete some directories, but this is what happened: $ rmdir My\ Pictures/ rmdir: My Pictures/: Operation not permitted Using Finder just asks for password, but does not delete the directory (sound of "moved to Trash" is played). I thought it's some permission "thing", but: $ ls -l drwxrwxrwx 1 martin staff 32768 5 jan 16:11 My Pictures/ $ sudo rm -rf My\ Pictures rm: My Pictures: Operation not permitted I re-mounted, rebooted (thinking that there's some file lock), but that did not help. What might have happened here? How to delete it?

I created a symlink using: ln -s /media/MYDISK /home/camilo/MYDISK chmod 777 /home/camilo/MYDISK I'm setting up smb.conf like this: [myshare1] comment = external disk browsable = yes path = /home/camilo/MYDISK guest ok = yes read only = no create mask = 0775 Also, in the [global] section I tried adding the following lines: follow symlinks = yes wide links = yes unix extensions = no The problem is that when browsing the shared folder in Windows 7, I get a "\\etc\myshare1 is not accessible" error. When pointing the path to a regular folder it works fine. Also, when I point it directly to /media/MYDISK, it shows the same error. EDIT: to make it more interesting, I have no graphical interface, so I need to touch the config files directly..

  • External hard drive not disconnecting and leaving 'ghost drives' on my PC

    I use a Seagate FreeAgent on my laptop and PC. While it works fine most of the time, sometimes when I try to safely disconnect it, it says the files are in use. Obviously I have by that time shut down all applications. Now with my laptop, a Toshiba Satellite, I shut down the computer and unplug the Seagate and no ghost drives are found. But no matter what I do with my desktop, it continues to create 'ghost drives'. Is this due to a feature in the external hard drive, and if so, would anyone have an idea how I can fix it? I am getting tired of deleting the 'ghost drives'. Both my laptop and desktop use Windows 7.

  • loading 3d model data into buffers

    I am using assimp to load 3d model data. I have noticed that each loaded model is made up of different meshes. I was wondering should each mesh have it's own vertex/index buffer or should there just be one for the whole model? From looking through the index data that is loaded it seems to suggest that I will need a vertex buffer per mesh but I'm not 100% sure. I am using C++ and DirectX9 Thank you, Mark

    i have postfix set up as a satellite to listen on port 587 i can send email outside fine trough the postfix(ubuntu) box from the local network with no problems when i try to connect to the postfix(ubuntu) box from a external ip and send mail it spits back a 554 5.7.1 Relay access denied error i can telnet to it fine, just cant send mail this is my main.cf : smtpd_banner = $myhostname ESMTP $mail_name (Ubuntu) biff = no append_dot_mydomain = no readme_directory = no smtp_sasl_auth_enable = yes smtp_sasl_password_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/sasl_passwd smtp_sasl_security_options = smtp_use_tls = no myhostname = cotiso-desktop alias_maps = hash:/etc/aliases alias_database = hash:/etc/aliases myorigin = /etc/mailname mydestination = mydomainname.com, cotiso-desktop, localhost.localdomain, localhost relayhost = smtp.mydomainname.com mailbox_size_limit = 0 recipient_delimiter = + inet_interfaces = all inet_protocols = all there is no security set up yet, i'm just trying to get it working first any ideas? thanks in advance

  • Save object states in .data or attr - Performance vs CSS?

    In response to my answer yesterday about rotating an Image, Jamund told me to use .data() instead of .attr() First I thought that he is right, but then I thought about a bigger context... Is it always better to use .data() instead of .attr()? I looked in some other posts like what-is-better-data-or-attr or jquery-data-vs-attrdata The answers were not satisfactory for me... So I moved on and edited the example by adding CSS. I thought it might be useful to make a different Style on each image if it rotates. My style was the following: .rp[data-rotate="0"] { border:10px solid #FF0000; } .rp[data-rotate="90"] { border:10px solid #00FF00; } .rp[data-rotate="180"] { border:10px solid #0000FF; } .rp[data-rotate="270"] { border:10px solid #00FF00; } Because design and coding are often separated, it could be a nice feature to handle this in CSS instead of adding this functionality into JavaScript. Also in my case the data-rotate is like a special state which the image currently has. So in my opinion it make sense to represent it within the DOM. I also thought this could be a case where it is much better to save with .attr() then with .data(). Never mentioned before in one of the posts I read. But then i thought about performance. Which function is faster? Then I wanted to post my results here with some questions, and in the act of writing I compared with the questions Stack Overflow showed me (similar titles) And true enough, there was one interesting post about performance I read it and run their example. And now I am confused! This test showed that .data() is slower then .attr() !?!! Why is that so? First I thought it is because of a different jQuery library so I edited it and saved the new one. But the result wasn't changing... So now my questions to you: Why are there some differences in the performance in these two examples? Would you prefer to use data- HTML5 attributes instead of data, if it represents a state? Although it wouldn't be needed at the time of coding? Why - Why not? Now depending on the performance: Would performance be an argument for you using .attr() instead of data, if it shows that .attr() is better? Although data is meant to be used for .data()? UPDATE 1: I did see that without overhead .data() is much faster. Misinterpreted the data :) But I'm more interested in my second question. :) Would you prefer to use data- HTML5 attributes instead of data, if it represents a state? Although it wouldn't be needed at the time of coding? Why - Why not? Are there some other reasons you can think of, to use .attr() and not .data()? e.g. interoperability? because .data() is jquery style and HTML Attributes can be read by all...   • Booting Linux from External HDD, with persistence

    I am trying to install Linux, specifically Lubuntu or BackTrack 5 on an external HDD (Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex) but I have had no luck using YUMI, or Untebootin to get it working. I want the hard drive to be able to save the data within Linux (As in, If I install a program, it will stay there). I also tried doing this with a flash drive, which does boot, but it does not save data (I tried following Pendrive's tutorial on creating a casper-rw file and adding "persistent" to various files, but I cannot get it to save files. Basically, I just want a form of linux on a portable device that will save files and settings between boots Note: I do not have a CD to install from. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

  • How to setup external mail addresses without external autodiscover tries?

    We have a little Exchange/Outlook installation here that fetches the mails from our provider with POP3. Now to be able to send emails outside our organisation, I added another SMTP address to the Exchange User: [email protected] (Default / Reply Address) [email protected] Sending email works using the default address. But now there is an error message each time we start Outlook. Outlook tries to autodiscover using autodiscover.ourcompany.com which doesn't exist. Our autodiscover files are placed on our local server. I think all the servers are discovers, because everything works as expected. Everything except the error message on each Outlook start. (The error message is actually because of an invalid certificate but I don't see why Outlook should contact an external host at all!) So how can I solve this? Forcing Autodiscover on every Outlook client to use the local hosts? Or ist there an even better way?

Also I've domain megaplan.tvigle.ru (IP 79.142.100.36). Question: How to know which one of servers serve this domain? How to find servers internal ip-address by external IP.   • Is it possible to use ASP.NET Dynamic Data and SubSonic 3?

    Is it possible to use ASP.NET Dynamic Data with SubSonic 3 in-place of Linq to SQL classes or the Entity Framework? MetaModel.RegisterContext() throws an exception if you use the context class that SubSonic generates. I thought I remembered coming across a SubSonic/Dynamic Data example back before SubSonic 3 was released but I can't find it now. Has anyone been able to get this to work?

  • Do 10m external SAS cables work?

    According to the Wikipedia page external SAS cables are specified for up to 10m length. However, I found it pretty hard to actually find places that sell cables of that length. This made me wonder: Are there any known problems with using cables that are as long as this? Will it be more fragile? Slower? And if 10m is not suggested, would 6m be any more stable? A little background: for several reasons we'd like to put a tape library physically separate from our main server and 10m would be enough to put it on a separate floor.

    Hi forgive my ignorance for I am a humble client side developer... I am a webapp made up of static HTML and JS. But I want to call an external service via AJAX, this causes some issues with CORS or Cross Domain policy on the browser. So I need to make a request to MY server http://dev.webapp.com/service So I want to redirect the /service on the server to http://externaldata.com/service And return the result. The Mac boys have acheived this in Apache with a proxy pass: ProxyPass /service http://externaldata.com/service Can anybody help with how to do this in IIS? I have found articles about ARRs and Reverse Proxy, terms that are alien and seem too complicated. As a humble webdev can I do this using IIS GUI?

    I have a client who wants to offer videos for downloading or streaming on his website. Now we have hosting for him, which is wonderful: it's reliable and fast, offers unlimited space and databases BUT it only offers 10GB in bandwidth. The videos could easily be placed on his server (unlimited space) but the bandwidth is a real problem. Now I am wondering if he would purchase external hosting for his videos, and people would want to download them, woould this still eat up all his available bandwidth in no time, because the download request would go via his site, or is there a way to circumvent this?

  • Linksys router with multiple external IP's

    In an office I've got a network connection with 5 external IPs and a Linksys router (I'm not 100% percent sure of the model). I need 4 of those 5 IPs to be routed to a server, and the fifth to be shared between the other computers at the office. This can probably be done using a switch in front of the router. Connect the server and the router to the switch, and let the router handle the rest of the network. Is there a way to configure the router to route the 4 IPs to the server, and create an internal network the the other computers at the same time?
