  • Publishing an Excel spreadsheet using Microsoft SBS 2008 to a web page that is viewable by mobile ph

    I am getting well out of my “superuser” depth here and would love some support. At work we have an Excel workbook (*.xls format circa Office 2003) which maintains our “engineers” timesheet. This handles what events we are doing across the year and how many “work units” it is. As far as a workbook goes, it is fairly simple with just a few =SUM(range) cells and some linked across sheets (12 sheets, one for each month) It is stored on a server, in a folder that provides “management” with full access and “engineers” with read-only access. The workbook itself is read-only for “engineers” and full access for “management”. I think these permissions are controlled through Active Directory. The workbook is protected with a password, assumingly to allow “management” to edit it even if they are working at a terminal logged in as an “engineer”. This protection prevents “engineers” from going to certain cells to see formulae and therefore editing them. The workbook has a macro which saves and closes it ten minutes after opening. This is to stop other “management” from being locked out by any one person who has logged in with editing privileges. I hope this is making sense to someone... :S Now then, we have Microsoft Small Business Server 2008. We have a shiny new web-based login for when we are offsite so we can get to Exchange webmail and our internal site (which uses Sharepoint 3.0). “Management” would like to be able to publish this timesheet automatically after changes (they don’t want to have to do anything different to what they are currently doing) so that using an iPhone “engineers” can check on it while out of the office. I am currently having a look at “Excel Services” for Office 2007 on TechNet but I am not sure if I am running down the right garden path at the moment. < EDIT This seems to suggest that I have to have Sharepoint Server 2007, with no mention of Sharepoint 3.0... ... "MOSS builds on WSS by adding both core features as well as end user web parts" - Wikipedia entry for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) this is not good news... "...and using the ASP.NET APIs, web parts can be written to extend the functionality of WSS." Wikipedia entry for Windows Sharepoint Services. Could this bring back what I need? Is this good news? Do I need to start learning ASP.NET? Basically I have a page that will list contacts for organization and need to password protect that folder without having account for every user . Just one password that gets changes every so often and distributed to the group. I understand that it is not very secure but never the less I would like to know how to do this. In the best way. It would be nice if the password is remembered for a while once user entered it correctly.

    I am working with the open source flash player at http://flash-mp3-player.net/ and I am trying to figure out how to limit one sound file at a time. I know this has been done on a number of sites but I am unsure how to approach it. Scenario: A page has five different instances of the flash player. The user is litening to one song but clicks on another to listen to it. Goal: The first audio file automatically stops while the second starts playing instead of both playing at the same time. Do I need to have some sort of javascript handler than interacts with the swf or something?

    I need to create a clients details report for a web based application in c#.Net. There will be multiple client details one by one. When take print of this web page, the first page will be the cover page and the remaining pages contains clients details. The pages except the cover page should be numbered “page x of y” in the centre of the footer. The top of each page should display the client name that is the subject of the sub-report. If part of a sub-report section spans onto a new page, the whole section should be moved to the new page. Any solution for implementing this?

    From an iTunes page, like http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/this-week-in-tech-mp3-edition/id73329404, is there a way to extract the corresponding feed address? In this case it would be http://leoville.tv/podcasts/twit.xml. I know that if you open on iTunes you can extract it manually, but I want to do it programmatically. There's a link to the website of the podcast, but it may not be accurate. In this case it points to a web site with 20 podcasts on it.

    I'm working on a project for a client. It's an iPad pdf reader. The client wants a collection view, but instead of scrolling vertically, he wants it to use a page control. It's pretty hard to explain, but what I basically want is all the PDFs on the device in a grid, like on the iBooks app. When that grid overflows, I want to use a page control to display the extra elements on a second page (like in the weather app). My thoughts on this were: - Create a page control with one page. - On that page, create a UICollectionView. - If the number of elements is greater than 9 add a page to the page control and add another UICollectionView, until there are enough pages to display all elements. However, this seems horribly inefficient, so my question is if there's a better way to do this.

    I know. This sounds complicated =D I made a PHP file browser, as an alternative to the apache one. I needed it for logic purposes, it does extra things for me, &etc. So instead of dropping this file in all of my directories, how could I get it to "show up" in all my directories that don't have an index (would use the apache dirlisting by default)? Thanks for the help! Edit I wonder if this could be done using Alias and DirectoryIndex? Is it possible to alias to a file?

  • Carrierwave upload to a tmp dir before saving to database

    I'm trying to build a visual editor where users can click an image they are presented with an image upload form once the upload is done I use ajax to return the image and insert it back into the page. But the above method inserts the image straight into the database but I want users to be able to visualize the image before the image is inserted into the database. So I was wondering if the image using carrierwave could be uploaded to a temp location, sent back to the user and then when the user saves the page the image is moved into the permanent location. Here's what I have so far. def edit_image @page = Page.find(1) @page.update_attributes(params[:page]) @page.save return :text => @page.file end But this is what I want to achieve def temp_image #uploads received image to a temp location #returns image to the user end And once the user clicks save def save #moves the file in the temp folder to the permanent location end Cheers

    I'm not sure it's even possible, but my command line usecase goes something like this: do svn update do a svn log -l {how many times since my last commit - 1} do a `svn diff -rHEAD:{my last commit revision + 1} and try to get an overview of what happened since last time I touched the code. I get a lot of valuable information from this, and would like everybody in my team to get the same feeling of control and overview of the code base. Not everyone in my team is comfortable with the command line but like the hudson interface. So; is there a way to the the commit diff since last build (we do a build per commit) in the individual build page?

    I'm trying to do a mail merge to print to labels. The first field in the document does not contain a { NEXT } field code, and because of this the records repeat between label pages for example: Notice how the records shift to the left as the next page is displayed? But how they start over again in an off by one manner? Now I've tried to fix this by using the first record displayed on a page to see if the page number is 1. If it not on page 1 of the mail merge then it should just move to the next record; otherwise it should just display the first record: This doesn't work however, because when I do the preview and display the {page} field code, it reports that I am always on page 1 and thus the same behavior continues instead of just moving to the next record on the next page.

    I am trying to download a Photoshop shape file (.csh), and instead of downloading it, IE treats it as a webpage and shows a series of symbols. When I try to save it, I am told to either save as an html file or txt file. If I save as txt file and change the extension, Photoshop says it is invalid, since IE saves the text source, not the actual file. I ended up having to use a download program to download it. Why is IE treating it as a webpage, and is there a way to fix the problem? Firefox shows the same issue.

    I am experiencing a CSS conflict issue. Here are the details: I have a search results page in which products are shown in grid format. The CSS for that is grid search results is "product-grid.css" which is included header of the page. On this page I have button which when clicked shows the search results in list format. The css for list format is "product-list.css" which is also included in head tag of the page. Now the HTML guy has made the name of classes to be same in both product-grid.css and product-list.css. What I want is that when I am viewing the page in grid style only product-grid.css should apply to respective portion of the page. And when I am viewing the page in list format then product-grid.css should be disabled and product-list.css should apply on whole page. I have tried enabling and disabling css files using jquery but may be I am doing something wrong. Also when the page loads both css files are active in head tag and due to conflict in classes names the page is malformed even without shifting to other view. Any help what should I do?

    Our "portal-like" SharePoint site is served using HTTPS/SSL. So a user goes to https://web.company.com and sees content and different Web Parts. So far, no problem. The desire now is to have new Web Parts added that either frame HTTP content (such as Weather Bug) or HTTP RSS feeds. The issue that arises is that by doing this, results in a "Mixed Content" warning in the browser. Has anybody successfully been able to implement such a scenario, or one similar to it? The options we have looked at, unsuccessfully, have been: using Apache Reverse Proxy Server mirror an external site Custom Web Parts

    Hi, I have a MVC app that has forms authentication enabled. The app allows printing of invoices. I have an external app that converts html to pdf. How can I call the secured page from this pdf converter app so that some security remains? The PDF converter app just requires a URL. One thought was to create a HttpHandler for an extenion of say .print and pass a public key in the URL qureystring that can be validated by the MVC app. Any ideas on this? Malcolm

  • How does one suppress a 404 status code in a page?

    I've got a WordPress site that includes pages pulled from a different database. The problem is that these other pages return a 404 status code. (The WordPress posts/pages are fine.) The 404'ed pages display fine, and I removed the "Page not Found" text from the title tag in WordPress. But Googlebot and W3C see the 404 header. So: wow does one tell Apache to suppress a 404 status? And will Apache override WordPress's 404 header? Does that make sense? What other info and things should I be looking at? Can I suppress the status code in .htaccess so I don't change WP core files?
