    I like to use the following commands to manage 'TIME_WAIT', in the hope to free up resources. echo 20 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_fin_timeout sysctl -w net.ipv4.tcp_tw_reuse=1 sysctl -w net.ipv4.tcp_tw_recycle=1 I found something interesting while doing a tcpdump. Sometimes if a client makes a connection (syn), the server will not reply (syn -ack). My question is, could it be because of the top three commands.

    I'm trying to get a Yaws web server working on a cloud service (Amazon AWS). I've compilled and installed a local copy on the server. My problem is that I can't get Yaws to run while running on either port 8000 or port 80.   • How to stop Vim from scrolling when splitting vertically

    The problem Somehow on this box every time I split a window (^W v or :vs) the original pane scrolls in such a way that my cursor is exactly scrolloff=5 from the top. I have tried to remove all ~/.vim* and /etc/vim* files but no dice. Even a aptitude purge vim followed by a rm -rf /usr/share/vim/ /etc/vim* didn't change anything. Note: This seems to be specific to a certain Vim version since I do not have this on my other boxes with the same .vimrc. Versions Vim: 7.3 Ubuntu: 11.04

  • How to get Remote Processes on Windows 2003 with cpu percentage

    I have a production server with it's cpu's running excessively high. Except in critical circumstances nobody is allowed to logon to servers during non maintenance times. I am looking for an application I can use to look at the processes on the remote server which include CPU % usage. An application like top. Windows native tasklist.exe doesn't show percentage, nor does sysinternals pslist.exe. Suggestions?

What is the recommended way/what are the advantages disadvantages of having all the printers shared through the Server 2008 Print server vs having workstations connect directly to the workstation printers. Off the top of my head using the server 2008 print server is a single point of failure but Should make it easier to deploy/manage the printers.

    I have a Debian 5 server, which gets a lot of traffic. Right now the server has 4 GB of RAM and no swap memory. I see in top that Apache processes consume roughly 180 MB virtual memory (VIRT) each, and 16 MB of real RAM (RES). So how many Apache threads can I have running at the same time? About 4 GB / 180 MB = 22 or 4 GB / 16 MB = 256?

    I've just installed a new Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 5000 and it's X/Y calibration/alignment seems to be off. If I move the mouse from left to right, the cursor will go up and down slightly. If I move the mouse from top to bottom, the cursor will also move from left to right slightly too. I seem to remember in earlier version of Windows or Intelli Point, there was a calibration tool which would fix this issue. Can anyone help? Many Thanks Stephen

  • Disk IO causing high load on Xen/CentOS guest

    I'm having serious issues with a xen based server, this is on the guest partition. It's a paravirtualized CentOS 5.5. The following numbers are taken from top while copying a large file over the network. If i copy the file another time the speed decreases in relation to load average. So the second time it's half the speed of the first time. It needs some time to cool off after this.   • win 7: copy all files from a complex folder structure to one folder

    I'd have a complex folder structure like: h:\folder1\folder2\folder3 h:\folder1\folder2\a h:\folder1\b h:\folder1\folder3 h:\folder1\folder4\d Only with probably 100's of folders and a depth of around 4 (I'm guessing) Anyway I want to run a command that will move all the files from every sub folder into the top level folder. so something like h:\folder1\*\*.* to h:\folder1 Is there a tool I can use to do this? does win 7 have a command that will do this?     I created a AD 2003 GPO to add a couple of the company's links to everyone's IE. I have the following: Checked: Place Favorites and Links at the Top of the List... Unchecked: Everything else Then: Favorites |-Company Link One |-Company Link Two Links However, the GPO seems to add Favorites Bar, Microsoft Websites, MSN Websites, and Windows Live folders. If they are deleted it seems to make them come back. Anyone know how to fix this?
