    Hi, sometimes I feel my server not responding as smoothly as I would expect (i have a Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 2.80GHz Quad Core), given that for example, the 'top' commands reports a low load < 0.5, CPU are almost completely idle ... I maybe have internet connectivity issues, so I don't really know if it's me or if it's the server itself. Is there anykind of benchmarking script (or something analogous) I could run and see the actual performance of the server ?

    I am looking to modify the HTML that apache generates for its default directory listing. I already know how to create a HEADER.html file that gets included for every directory listing.     im trying to build a query that has something like this select id, (select top 1 create_date from table2 where table1id = t1.id and status = 'success') [last_success_date], (select count(*) from table2 where table1id = t1.id and create_date > [last_success_date]) [failures_since_success] from table1 t1 as you can see the [last_Success_Date] is not within the scope of the second query, and i was wondering how i could access that value in other queries without having to rerun it?

But now the new site is built on top of RubyOnRails using nginx. and the new url to the homepage "www.hifimaven.com". How can I tell nginx to redirect to the new homepage url if the user types the old url instead of showing a 404 page.

  • Good DVD ripper - for Divx

    I'm currently going through my DVD collection, and digitising it, to allow me to watch it on a media streamer (I'm NOT a filesharer!!) I want to know what software i should use, to convert my DVD's to AVI divx format. I currently use Xilisoft DVD ripper, however this creates a "letterbox" at the top and bottom of the file - and there doesn't seem to be a way to turn this off. I'm a novice at video encoding, so would need something fairly simple / well documented.

Given a LAN, for example, where users are able to consistently ping an outside server, but any data intensive connections are flaky; how would you begin solving the network issues? I imagine issues like congestion, bandwidth constraints, throughput constraints, etc. are all factors, but I don't know how to diagnose those issues. I'm especially interested in LAN environments (rather than WAN)

The sidebar, the one displaying the various menu options, like Home, Discussions, Pages, is rendered on the left side of the page on top of the group discussions space.   • Bring to front all windows for a certain application in Windows 7

    Trying to find some key+click combination to bring all windows for a given application to the top of z-order. For example, I have several Putty terminal windows open in the stacked taskbar icon and I want to display all of them, not just the last used. The only work-around I have found so far is to shift+right-click and "minimize all windows" followed by "restore all windows". Any simpler way to do this?

  • HP ML350 G4 - do the XEON processors need heat sink compound?

    I pulled the heat sinks off a HP ML350 G4 and there appears to be no heat sink compound between the processor and the heat sink surfaces. It looks like the point at which they make contact is actually metal on the processor which is a good conductor anyway. Perhaps the compound is only needed when the processor has a ceramic top instead of a metal one? Anyone know?
