  Hi, I'm new to python, so please bare with me :) I was wondering if there's any built-in way in python to append variables to URL's regardless of it's structure. I would like to have a URL variable (test=1) added to an URL which could have any of the following structures http://www.aaa.com (would simply add "/?test=1") to the end http://www.aaa.com/home (like the one above, would simply add "/?test=1") to the end http://www.aaa.com/?location=home (would figure out there's already a ? being used, and would add &test=1 to the end) http://www.aaa.com/?location=home&page=1 (like the one above, would figure out there's already a ? being used, and would add &test=1 to the end) I'd be happy to write domething to do it myself, but if python can already do it somehow, I'd me more than happy to use any built-in functionality that would save me some time ;-) Thanks in advance

• Objective C memory leaking

  Hi everyone, I'm creating one Cocoa application for myself and I found a problem. I have two NSTextFields and they're connected to each other as nextKeyViews. When I run this app with memory leaks detection tool and tab through those 2 textboxes for a while, enter some text etc., I start to leak memory. It shows me that the AppKit library is responsible, the leaked objects are NSCFStrings and the responsible frames are [NSEvent charactersIgnoringModifiers] and [NSApplication nextEventMatchingMask:untilDate:inMode:dequeue:]. I know this is quite a brief and incomplete description, but does anyone have any ideas what could be the problem? Also, I don't use GC, so I release my instance variables in the controllers dealloc. What about the outlets? Since IBOutlet is just a mark for Interface Builder and doesn't actually mean anything, should I release them too?

• How to handle dependency files in a cross-platform manner?

  I'm working on updating an old app. It has some dependency files that live in the same directory as the app. Obviously this broke when Windows Vista came out (since it violates the API and Vista/7 now enforce that (XP didn't)). Ideally, I'd like to avoid hardcoding anything into the app for just Windows. I can live with that if I have to though. I've already been down that path with pulling the APPDATA and LOCALAPPDATA environment variables, but that doesn't help any since they just give you the current user area... I need these to live somewhere accessible for all users, and I'd like to obey the Windows API expectations that they go into the all user appdata area. Suggestions?

• Using Components.utils.import in a firefox extension

  I am trying to create some global variables in a firefox extension. In my content folder, I have two javascript files: 1) Main JS file that holds the functions for the different events, etc 2) A file that stores only an object with the pieces of state I want to maintain. Also, I set the array EXPORTED_SYMBOLS. I am having issues with the following line found in my main JS file: Components.utils.import("resource:///globalVariables.js"); When it is at the top of the file, nothing seems to work. If I move it into the function where I need the variable, the rest of my code works, but the function with this line does nothing. Any advice that would help me with this problem would be great. • Controling CRT memory initialization

  Occasionally you meet bugs that are reproducible only in release builds and/or only on some machines. A common (but by no means only) reason is uninitialized variables, that are subject to random behaviour. E.g, an uninitialized BOOL can be TRUE most of the time, on most machines, but randomly be initialized as FALSE. What I wish I would have is a systematic way of flushing out such bugs by modifying the behaviour of the CRT memory initialization. I'm well aware of the MS debug CRT magic numbers - at the very least I'd like to have a trigger to turn 0xCDCDCDCD (the pattern that initializes freshly allocated memory) to zeros. I suspect one would be able to easily smoke out nasty initialization pests this way, even in debug builds. Am I missing an available CRT hook (API, registry key, whatever) that enables this? Anyone has other ideas to get there?

  I need little help with transferring data from variables, arrays, lists to my SQL Server. Im not bad in SQL, but im not familiar with DataSet, DataTable objects. My data is now stored in list of strings (List). Every string in that list looks similar to this: QWERTY,19920604,0.91,0.35,0.34,0.35,343840 There are about 900000 rows like this. Target datatypes in SQL Server: BIGINT (primary key, im not inserting it, its identity(1,1)) VARCHAR(10), DATE, DECIMAL(10,2), DECIMAL(10,2), DECIMAL(10,2), DECIMAL(10,2), INT How to convert that data to SQL Server data types? How to insert that data into SQL Server? Also i need some progress bar updates between inserts. I could do this using old-fashion SQL command, but i have learn more modern way :)

Our Master page has a public member variable. We need to be able to access that member variable from the ui controls that we use. However we can't seem to get at it?   Folks I am trying to build a sitemap (we need one badly) for a huge multi-page web app. Technically its not much more than a collection of php/MySQL web forms that use javascript instead of traditional linkage to access the many pages. >td width="100" align="center" ONMOUSEOVER="this.className='bgover'" ONMOUSEOUT="this.className='bgout'" onclick="location.href='../main.php'">Main Page</td> Above is code sample of how the links are currently managed. I know I can search through the various pages, nearly a 1000, and find these "location.href" variables and that will help me a sitemap for each section. But maybe there is an easier way? WE use Trac and SVN so perhaps I am going about this the wrong way? Any advice would be appreciated.

• Why in Objective-C, we use self = [super init] instead of just [super init]?

  In a book, I saw that if a subclass is overriding a superclass's method, we may have self = [super init]; First, is this supposed to be done in the subclass's init method? Second, I wonder why the call is not just [super init]; ? I mean, at the time of calling init, the memory is allocated by alloc already (I think by [Foobar alloc] where Foobar is the subclass's name. So can't we just call [super init] to initialize the member variables? Why do we have to get the return value of init and assign to self? I mean, before calling [super init], self should be pointing to a valid memory allocation chuck... so why assigning something to self again? (if assigning, won't [super init] just return self's existing value?)

  Hello, May be my question is stupid. But i would like to get it cleared. We know that functions are loaded in memory only once and when you create new objects, only instance variables gets created, functions are never created. My question is, say suppose there is server and all clients access a method named createCustomer(). Say suppose all clients do something which fired createCustomer on server. So, if the method is in middle of execution and new client fires it. Will the new request be put on wait? or new request also will start executing the method? How does it all get managed when there is only one copy of function in memory? No book mentions answers to this type of questions. So i am posting here where i am bound to get answers :).

  I have a for loop in the opening function of a GUI in MATLAB and I'm trying to use a callback button to break the loop. I'm new to MATLAB. • Real-world examples of populating a GWT CellTable using a clean MVP pattern?

  We are using the GWT-Presenter framework and attempting to use CellTable to put together an updateable grid. It seems as though several of the GWT constructs for CellTable don't lend themselves to easily breaking up the logic into clean view and presenter code. Examples: 1) Within the View's constructor, the CellTable is defined and each column is created by anonymous inner classes that extend the Column class to provide the onValue() method. 2) The FieldUpdater interface must be implemented to provide logic to execute when a user alters data in a cell. This seems like it would best fit in the Presenter's onBind() method, but FieldUpdaters often need access to the Cell or Column which belong in the view. CellTable does not have accessor methods to get hold of the Columns or Cells, so it seems the only way for the Presenter to get them is for me to create a multitude of member variables on the View and accessors on my Display interface. Can anyone provide good examples for dealing with CellTable in GWT-Presenter or a comparable MVP

The problem is the add instructions where i am incrementing the address of the C variables output and x by 4 bytes, this is supposed to increment by the size of a float. Currently my plan is to create a "value" class with member variables of the types I will be expecting.   Does anyone use Phing to deploy PHP applications, and if so how do you use it? We currently have a hand-written "setup" script that we run whenever we deploy a new instance of our project. We just checkout from SVN and run it. It sets some basic configuration variables, installs or reloads the database, and generates a v-host for the site instance. I have often thought that maybe we should be using Phing. I haven't used ant much, so I don't have a real sense of what Phing is supposed to do other than script the copying of files from one place to another much as our setup script does. What are some more advanced uses that you can give examples of to help me understand why we would or would not want to integrate Phing into our process.

  I'm building a PHP framework, and in it I have a request object that parses the url as well as the $_GET, $_POST and $_FILE superglobals. I want to encourage safe web habits, so I'm protecting the data against SQL injection, etc. In order to ensure users of this framework are accessing the safe, clean data through the request object, I plan to use unset($_GET, $_POST, $_REQUEST); after parsing those variables. I will document this in the method comments, and explain in the framework documentation that this is happening. My question is: Would this be desirable behavior? What are the potential pitfalls that I have not foreseen?

  This question is particularly aimed at descriptions and explanations of what is happening in a computer program, as well as any general advice or approaches for undertaking technical reports in Computer Science at both undergraduate and graduate levels. You see, I am having particular difficulty in the best way to explain what is happening. As in, given any given program from a multi-agent system to a standard webservice, the best and most eloquent way to say exactly what is going on, the logic behind it and it's respective justifications. Should I avoid saying class names? Avoid specifying methods? Keep referring to class variables and any particular references? I'm banging my head against the wall at trying to keep a solid technical foundation and making it accessible to people of all backgrounds. Apologies for the rather vague question. Cheers.
