  • Basic Python: Exception raising and local variable scope / binding

    - by SuperJdynamite
    I have a basic "best practices" Python question. I see that there are already StackOverflow answers tangentially related to this question but they're mired in complicated examples or involve multiple factors. Given this code: #!/usr/bin/python def test_function(): try: a = str(5) raise b = str(6) except: print b test_function() what is the best way to avoid the inevitable "UnboundLocalError: local variable 'b' referenced before assignment" that I'm going to get in the exception handler? Does python have an elegant way to handle this? If not, what about an inelegant way? In a complicated function I'd prefer to avoid testing the existence of every local variable before I, for example, printed debug information about them.

  • Is it possible to run php exec through cygwin?

    - by Scarface
    Hey guys I have one command that works on my remote linux server but not my windows (WAMP package) local server. I really want to create an identical workstation so I can test locally and then update my remote server. If anyone has any suggestions or solutions other than converting to linux, I would really appreciate it. <?php $safe_path = escapeshellarg('fake-virus.txt'); $command = '/usr/bin/clamscan --stdout ' . $safe_path; $out = ''; $int = -1; exec($command, $out, $int); echo $int; if ($int == 0) { // all good; } else { echo 'o no';// VIRUS!; } ?>

  • Compiling zlib for 64 bit on windows

    - by Allan Hollenberg
    I am currently working on a cross-platform game for Mac OSX and Windows and I'm having some issues with the ZLib library on Windows 64 bit. My game is focussed on a 64 bit architecture and I am unable to get ZLib to work along with it. When I compile ZLib itself (through make all64 at the source directory of ZLib) it shows no issues but when I want to use it I get a error saying '/usr/local/lib/libz.a(gzread.o):gzread.c:(.text+0x28e): undefined reference to `__errno'' I have included errno.h before I include zlib.h in my project but that doesn't seem to matter. I am compiling my app through the cygwin64 terminal and using the x86_64-w64-mingw32-g++ command, I am also linking directly against the lib64 version (if I remove that it compiles correctly but crashes on running due to it having a x86 lib)

  • Uninstalling user install of Apache on Mac Mini

    - by Zeophlite
    I got a MacMini at work for development, and was asked to follow this article to install SVN on it: http://developer.apple.com/tools/subversionxcode.html The article assumes that only Apache 1.3 was installed and asks the reader to install Apache 2. I've since learned that the MacMini has Apache 2 already installed. So basically I've installed two versions of Apache 2. The preinstalled one has access to PHP, so I wanted to remove my version, but I'm unsure of how. My version has httpd.conf stored at: /usr/local/apache2/conf/httpd.conf And the preinstalled version has it stored at: /etc/apache2/httpd.conf, which I believe is an alias for /private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf Thanks for your help

So I just need someone to explain why perl give me surprise in this case.

  • Apache2 on Ubuntu Server w/ CGI, FastCGI, mod_php

    - by illegal3alien
    I've looked at various websites on configuring Apache with cgi and can't get mod_fcgid to work. It works fine using mod_php5, but I wanted to compare performance using cgi and fastcgi. I tried methods using FGCIWrapper among various other techniques and the only one that didn't result in an unlogged 403 or download of the file was using "Action application/x-httpd-php /usr/bin/php-cgi" When trying to configure mod_fcgid the file normally just started a download of an unprocessed file. I used wget to check headers and type was "application/x-httpd-php" At one point I was able to get to the page, but it resulted in a 403, which was listed in access.log, but not error.log (I was told it should be in there too) I tried to get it working on a fresh install of Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS and 10.10 and had the same results on both, so I'm not doing something correctly in terms of configuration. I tried virtualmin and could only get mod_php to work. The page just prompted a download when selecting cgi or fcgi from the control panel.

    I am trying to send an HTML email using perl. open(MAIL,"|/usr/sbin/sendmail -t"); ## Mail Header print MAIL "To: $to\n"; print MAIL "From: $from\n"; print MAIL "Subject: $subject\n\n"; ## Mail Body print MAIL "Content-Type: text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1\n\n<html><head></head><body>@emailBody"; close(MAIL) Is that the correct way of doing it? • x86 Assembly - printf doesn't print without "\n"

    - by Bitani
    So I'm confused. I'm going through the book "Programming from the Ground Up" and am working with using libraries. printf is working just fine so long as I include a "\n" in the string, but without it it will print absolutely nothing. Any idea why this happens? Code: .section .data my_str: .ascii "Jimmy Joe is %d years old!\n\0" my_num: .long 76 .section .text .globl _start _start: pushl my_num pushl $my_str call printf movl $1, %eax movl $0, %ebx int $0x80 Also, when I use -m elf_i386 for 32-bit mode and -dynamic-linker /lib/ld-linux.so.2 -lc to link, I get the warning ld: skipping incompatible /usr/lib64/libc.so when searching for -lc If that makes any difference, or if anybody has any suggestions as to how to have it load the 32-bit library directly. Thanks!

  • How do I convince Eclipse to show javadoc documentation under Ubuntu 9.04 for openjdk?

    - by Neil Trodden
    I'm having a pretty hard time with this! I have installed the java documentation at: file:///usr/share/doc/openjdk-6-jre/api/index.html And loading that file up does show me all the documentation. However, I would like to browse it directly from within eclipse and see the documentation when I hover over a class. For example, when I hover over "javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest", I would like to see the documentation for it. All I get is: Note: This element has no attached source and the Javadoc could not be found in the attached Javadoc. Can anyone help correct my dev environment?

  • What would be the simplest way to deal with a text file using JSP?

    - by Nano Taboada
    First and foremost I should acknowledge that I have no experience at all using Java ServerPages, but I'm positive about achieving this task if you guys help me out a bit since it doesn't seem like something difficult for a seasoned JSP programmer. Anyway the thing is, there's an actual running JSP application within a *NIX box which I somewhat administer with kind of good permissions. The idea is to create a new but dead simple JSP page to control some Korn Shell scripts I've got running there. So the goal is to make some sort of HTML form that will be writing some kind of scriptStatus.on / scriptStatus.off file: #!usr/bin/ksh # coolScript.sh # This is my cool script that is being launched by cron every 10 minutes. if [ -e scriptStatus.off ] then # monitor disabled else # monitor enabled fi which then can be checked for existence within the running script, therefore allowing to easily activate / deactivate it without actually have do deal with cron. Please let me know if all this does make any sense and don't hesitate to ask as much questions as needed. Thanks much in advance!

  • "rake test" doesn't load fixtures?

    when i run rake test --trace here's what happens ** Invoke test (first_time) ** Execute test ** Invoke test:units (first_time) ** Invoke db:test:prepare (first_time) ** Invoke db:abort_if_pending_migrations (first_time) ** Invoke environment (first_time) ** Execute environment ** Execute db:abort_if_pending_migrations ** Execute db:test:prepare ** Invoke db:test:load (first_time) ** Invoke db:test:purge (first_time) ** Invoke environment ** Execute db:test:purge ** Execute db:test:load ** Invoke db:schema:load (first_time) ** Invoke environment ** Execute db:schema:load ** Execute test:units /usr/bin/ruby1.8 -I"lib:test".... (and after that fails because there's no fixtures loaded) why doesn't it load fixtures (i thought that would be default behaviour) and how do i make it load fixtures before executing tests??? p.s. my test/test_helper.rb content is: ENV["RAILS_ENV"] = "test" require File.expand_path(File.dirname(__FILE__) + "/../config/environment") require 'test_help' class ActiveSupport::TestCase self.use_transactional_fixtures = true self.use_instantiated_fixtures = false fixtures :all end (rails 2.3.4)

  • wxpython : button covers all in the frame

    - by Prakash
    Below is my code: #!/usr/bin/python # -*- coding: utf-8 -*- import wx class Example(wx.Frame): def __init__(self): #super(Example, self).__init__(parent, title=title, size=(300, 200)) wx.Frame.__init__(self, None, wx.ID_ANY, 'wxButton', pos=(300, 150), size=(320, 250)) self.button1 = wx.Button(self, id=-1, label='Button1', pos=(8, 8), size=(10, 20)) self.button1.Bind(wx.EVT_BUTTON, self.button1Click) self.Centre() self.Show() def button1Click(self,event): #self.button1.Hide() self.SetTitle("Button1 clicked") if __name__ == '__main__': app = wx.App() Example() app.MainLoop() Actually I am expecting the button1 on the frame to have a look like a button - a bit raised and be placed in center of frame - but it is just expanding to the full frame. Also text Button1 looks like a text which does not has a button look like feeling? What wrong am I doing?

  • open_basedir restriction does not allow me to use rename() or write files in a dir.

    - by lukasoppermann
    Hey, I have a php file (currently at / ) and I want this file to change the content of a file, "test.js". This file is in the dir "/libs/js/test.js". While I can read the content, for example with fread or file_get_contents, I can not write in it with file_put_contents or any other function. I always get the Warning Warning: rename() [function.rename]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/libs/js/test.js) is not within the allowed path(s): (/var/www/web166/:/usr/bin/) in /var/www/web166/html/info.php on line 88 Does anyone have any idea what to do? Thanks in advance.

  • Vector of objects

    - by Paul
    I've got a abstract class class A { public: virtual void somefunction() = ; }; and some different classes that inherit this class: class Ab { public: void somefunction(); }; etc. I want to make a vector containing some objects of these classes (how many depends on input parameters) so I can access these easily later. However I'm a bit lost on how to do this. My best idea is vector<A> *objectsVector; Ab AbObject; objectsVector.push_back(AbObject); However this gives me a huge amout of errors from various .h files in /usr/include/c++ How should i solve this?

  • Why does Perl allow mutual "use" relationships between modules?

    - by Haiyuan Zhang
    Let's say there are two modules that mutually use each other: package a; use b; sub p {} 1; package b; use a; 1; I think that it is systematically wrong to write code like the above, because the two modules will endlessly copy each other's code to themselves, but I can successfully run the following code, which makes me very surprised. Could any of you explain all of this to me? #! /usr/bin/perl use a; a->p();

  • How to learn about Make, compiling

    - by drozzy
    Why is Make utility for installing stuff on Linux so complicated? I mean it is really hard to know exactly where stuff goes on the machine. /etc/local? usr local? non-local? It just seems like really chaotic directory structure. Is there some "guide" on how this works? I mean as a new programmer, coming into the world of compiling things - where does on start? Thanks.

  • Rails: Creating subfolders in model?

    - by keruilin
    I'm going to have a ton of subclasses, so want to organize them under a subfolder called stream. I added the following line to the environment.rb so that all classes in the subfolder would be loaded: Rails::Initializer.run do |config| ... config.load_paths += Dir["#{RAILS_ROOT}/app/models/*"].find_all { |f| File.stat(f).directory? } ... end I thought this would solve the issue in which by convention the model class is namespaced into an according module. However, when I try to call one of the classes called stream in the stream folder, I get the following error: NoMethodError: undefined method `new' for Stream:Module from (irb):28 from /usr/local/bin/irb:12:in `<main>' Here's the model for the parent and one child: class Stream end class EventStream < Stream end Any idea what the issue is?

  • Problem compiling mod_wsgi for python2.6 on Cent OS 5.3

    - by webdev
    I am running a website on CentOS 5.3. I understand centos will break if the default python 2.4 is upgraded. I followed this site (http://www.question-defense.com/2009/12/25/how-to-install-python-2-6-on-centos-5-without-breaking-yum) and got python 2.6 installed. Now if I run "python" it runs python2.4 and if I run "python26" it runs python2.6. I am trying to compile mod_wsgi-3.2. When it run ./configure it takes only python 2.4 environment. I have tried using the --with-python=/usr/bin/python26. That way, "make" command does not work. Can someone throw some light on this? Thanks in advance

  • character_set_filesystem not present in show variables

    - by Diego
    I'm a little worried about the absence of this variable when I execute the show variables command. This is what I get when I execute show variables like 'char%': character_set_client utf8 character_set_connection utf8 character_set_database utf8 character_set_results utf8 character_set_server utf8 character_set_system utf8 character_sets_dir /usr/share/mysql/charsets/ I wonder why this is happening. What does it mean? can I just add it to the my.cnf file? Thank you... Edit: Sorry, I recently noted that I didn't specify which variable we're talking about (though I said it in the title). The variable is character_set_filesystem. Thanks.
