  • SSH connection problem - allowed from LAN but not WAN

    I tried to setup my Arch Linux installation to be an SSH host, but here is the thing: I can ssh localhost, it fails to login via public key and asks for username and password, but still able to login. When I try ssh my_wan_ip it gives ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host error. I've read all topics about this error and none helped me. By the way, just confirmed, it gives ssh: connect to host my_dyndns_hostname port 22: Connection refused from another machine (outside of my network, it has different wan ip). I have sshd: ALL in "hosts.allow", ALL:ALL in "hosts.deny". I am able to connect to my own pc via ssh, ping my own pc, but my ssh setup seems to be the problem, it gives that annoying error when I try to ssh from wan. /etc/ssh/ssh_config /etc/ssh/sshd_config And finally, here is the debug output for both sshd and ssh: (i ran ssh command and i took output to sshd debug after that): sshd debug ssh debug I can edit my question according to your needs. Just ask for any more information needed. BTW I have no iptables running. I have one cable dsl modem connected to a asus wl-330gE wireless access point, they both have their firewall disabled. I configured NAT so port 22 is directed to the pc I'm having this trouble. Any help appreciated, thanks..

  • SFTP, Chroot problems on Redhat

    I'm having problems setting up sftp with a ChrootDirectory. I've done an equivalent setup on other distros, but for some reason I cannot get it to work on a Redhat AMI. The changes to my sshd_config file are: Subsystem sftp internal-sftp Match Group ftponly PasswordAuthentication yes X11Forwarding no ChrootDirectory %h ForceCommand internal-sftp AllowTcpForwarding no I have the concerned usere's homes at /home/user, owned by root. After connecting with a user in the ftponly group, I'm dropped into / without permissions for anything, and am unable to do anything. sftp bob@localhost Connecting to localhost... bob@localhost's password: sftp> pwd Remote working directory: / I can connect normally with users not in the ftponly group. openssh version 5.3 I've experimented with different permissions, as well as having users own their own home directory (gives a Write failed: Broken pipe error), and so far, nothing has seemed to work. I'm sure it's a permissions error, or something equally as trivial, but at this point my eyes are beginning to glaze over, and any help would be greatly appreciated. EDIT: James and Madhatter, thanks for clarifying. I was confused by chroot dropping me in /... just didn't think through it properly. I've added the appropriate directories and permissions to get read access. One other key part was enabling write access to chrooted homes: setsebool -P ssh_chroot_rw_homedirs on in order to get write access. I think I'm all set now. Thanks for the help.

  • Migrating Terminal Server profiles from 2003 to 2008 R2 "V2"

    I've done some searching and there doesn't appear to be a method of migrating old 2003 based profiles to the new "V2" profiles automatically. Specifically, we're interested in retaining the <Profile>.NK2 file in Outlook, the Favorites folder, and the Signatures folder. I'm in the process of writing a fairly complicated migration script that'll be executed at login, but seems like this is something that I shouldn't have to do. The User Migration Tool appears to only work for Vista, not 2008 R2. Any other ideas?

  • How to know disk quota on network share in windows?

    I connect to a share on a windows server and I have a quota of unknown size. All the tools I have seen are reporting the disk size/disk free space, not the quota size for myself. The only way I can figure out my quotas is to keep writing junk until I reach the quota. There must be a better way than this? My PC is windows XP and the servers are mainly 2003server.

  • Gmail won't forward mail sent to myself.

    I own a dedicated server with a domain, we'll say foobar.com. I use google apps to manage my email SMTP servers. Now I don't check two gmail inboxes. I have my own personal one, and then I have foobar.com's inbox from google apps. Naturally the easiest thing to do is just have all foobar's emails forwarded to my personal one. So then I am only checking 1 inbox. This is all fine and dandy. I use MSMTP that with a wrapper that uses /etc/aliases. I have it set so any mail attempting to go to root (Things from cron, etc) will go to [email protected]. So when google app's (foobar.com) gets an email from the email I have setup with it ([email protected]), it automatically doesn't forward the message. This is a "feature" to gmail/google apps I suppose. How do I get around it? workarounds? etc. I could just have my alias set to my personal email but I wanted a place to have all foobar related emails archived in one place (googleapps).

  • Custom Extensions on Managed Chromebooks

    I am a developer looking for the best way to set up different schools with their own custom, private extensions (ie School A should be the only one with access to Extension A). Theoretically, I am aware that there are a few ways to get a custom, private extension pushed out on a domain: Host the .crx on a server and click "Specify a Custom App" in the management console. Create a Domain App by uploading a zip to the Chrome Web Store Upload the extension from my developer account to the Chrome Web Store and publish to a single "trusted tester," or make it unlisted Option (1), hosting the .crx, has not been working. I am not sure why, but the extension is simply not pushing out. I link directly to the crx file, which has the right ID and MIME type, still, no dice. If anyone has any tips or suggestions for getting this to work, I would love to hear them! Option (2), having the school create a domain app, seems a bit inefficient because it requires all schools to upload their own zip. So essentially I would have to email a zip file to the school, and have them publish it. All updates to the extension will also require a similar process, so this doesn't seem ideal. I doubt that option (3) would work. If I published to the admin as a "trusted tester", I don't think that the other people in the domain would be able to access it. If it is unlisted, I do not know how an admin could find it in the Chrome Web Store dialog. Also, I would rather avoid security through obscurity. Has anyone had success with hosting the extension and using the Specify a Custom App feature? Any other suggestions for getting a Custom Extension pushed out by the management console?     I'm running Ubuntu Squeeze and on one of the partitions df is showing the Total size as 335G: Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sdb 335G 225G 94G 71% /mnt However in the past it was showing as 360GB (which is the actual size): fdisk -l /dev/sdb Disk /dev/sdb: 365.0 GB, 365041287168 bytes lsof +L1 does not return anything (and anyway if this would be the case the Total space should not be affected.) On this partition I'm writing (and deleting) a lot of files and this happened before in the past, but problem solved by itself.

For example I want every morming at 8:00 the program open a particular mp3 file. But suposse, by mistake, that I on my computer and 9:00, then I want that the program rememberme what I planned to open at 8:00. Show me the program as an active windows on my desktop. The windows of the program opened is what the user is seeing (Is at the first place in the desktop) and the rest of the program windows are below. Close programs or files in my own computer at a planned time. For example I want that the program mp3 file that was opened at 8:00 was closed at 10:00 if at that time still be opened. Detection of events. For instance If I open particular videogame program. then a mp3 file (with a recording message arguing why I shouldn´t continue playing that videogame at work time) is opened.   • Is there a better IIS 7 bindings dialog?

    Some of my sites in IIS have 20-30 bindings and the bindings dialog box in IIS 7 is 4 lines, which makes editing bindings a real pain. Are there any replacements/upgrades for the dialog specifically? I realize behind the scenes it is just updating an XML file, but I would prefer not to directly edit the XML file or start writing a separate management application, if possible.

    Is there a way using openldap to ensure that a user's password does not contain their name or their username? I know that you can use the ppolicy overlay pwdCheckModule by writing a C function to do password checking, but is this the best approach? It doesn't seem like many folks are doing password quality checking this way--the only example I've found is a github example which only does basic checking.

    Every tutorial on Linux-based partitioning schemes (or, just partitioning in general) will tell you that a PC can have either 4 primary partitions, or 3 primaries and 1 extended. They will all also tell you that Linux (in my case, Ubuntu) can be installed on either. It's also come to my attention that it is not too atypical for FHS directories, such as usr/, tmp/, etc/, home/ or var/ to be mounted separately on other partitions. Several questions I am unable to find the answers to, purely for my own edification: (1) By "PC", are we really talking about common PC disk types, like IDE or SATA? I guess I'm wondering why PC uses are limited to 4 primaries or 3 primaries + 1 extended (2) I'm choking on some basic OS concepts: it is said that a partition can be mounted by a file system or an OS. So I assume this means I can somehow instruct Ubuntu to mount to 1 partition, and then any part of, say, ReiserFS, to be mounted to another partition? How? (3)(a) What about creating swap partitions? Is there too much of a good thing with swap partitioning? If I have 4GB RAM over 320GB disk, what should my swap partition size be, and why? (3)(b) Are swap files the only way to create swap partitions? Wouldn't a Linux partitioning utility allow me to define a partition as being for virtual memory only? (4) Why are partitions limited to being "mounted" by just OSes and file systems? Why couldn't I write a program to take up its own, say, 512 MB partition, and then have it invoked or uses by an OS installed on another partition? Thanks for shedding any light here... not critical that I know this stuff, but it's got me thinking incessantly. And when I think incessantly, I...can't......sleep....

  • Cassandra on heterogeneous servers

    I am currently running 4 cassandra nodes with the following hardware in a Apache Cassandra cluster: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 8G RAM 750G hard disk It shows not such a good writing performance and a really bad read performance with sometimes also timeouts. I was wondering if it makes sense to add 2 nodes with a different hardware (8 CPUs and more RAM) to improve this. Or does a cassandra cluster works best with the same hardware in every node?
