• Is there a peripheral that lets my computer monitor the connectivity of pairs of wires?

  I've got a bunch of physical switches and circuits that act like switches (they're either connected to ground or they're just an open wire). Is there some sort of thing I can plug into my computer (ideally, via USB) that has a bunch of screw terminals, and I can attach wires to the screws and have the computer keep track of which circuits are closed and which are open? Bonus points if the device also lets the computer open and close switches, too. I don't even know what to google for.

• Trackpad and USB mouse - different settings

  On my laptop I use both the trackpad and an external USB mouse. I'd like different settings for each device. e.g. the mouse is high resolution so I prefer to use a slow mouse settings, and for the trackpad I prefer to use the "Enhance pointer precision" option. But I can only seem to set these option for both devices, not individually. Can this be done? [Windows 7]

• Slow and unresponssive network

  Ive have the Nokia N900 mobile phone (running Maemo linux), and my device is really slow while using the wifi and trying to get stuff online (checking mail, loading pages). The webbrowsers itself (MicroB, Firefox, Opera) starts fast. Yesterday ive tried to set the dns to googles but that did not solve the case. Is there, and how do i check/verify my connection to the internet if im connected to my home wifi in linux? (tools, other then ping :D)

• Symbol LL500 Scanner Interface Not Detected

  I have an old Symbol LL500 scanner interface box and a scanner to go with it. The box's original cable used one of the old microsoft mouse connectors, but I got a converter to USB. The problem is that when I connect it to my MacBook, the interface powers up and works, but the computer dosen't recognize it or even say that a device is connected. Is there any way to make it see that the interface is there or am I just screwed?

  How can I make Vista home premium access OS X hard drive? and the other way around? I'd like to transfer files via direct ethernet. Plugging in an ethernet cable makes both computers recognize a network, but not the other device. Each firewall is turned off, but no luck. Edit: I don't see Windows Sharing in the Service Column.

• How to mount LUKS partition securely on server

  I'm curious if it is possible to mount a partition encrypted by cryptsetup with LUKS securely and automatically on Ubuntu 10.0.4 LTS. For example, if I use the key for the encrypted partition, than that key has to be presented on a device that is not encrypted and if someone steals my disk they'll be able to find the key and decrypt the partition. Is there any safe way to mount an encrypted partition? If not, does anything exist to do what I want?

The microphone is really sensitive and I could hear all the background noises and my sound though the headphone (of blutooth headset). I tried to disable the bluetooth headset in Playback devices and I could hear the amplified background noise through speakers! I checked if there is a microphone boost option enabled, but couldn't find it in the properties of the headset recording device

  I have used a hdmi cable to connect my lcd (which is connected with my speakers) with my nvida 275 gtx grafic card. I can not get the sound output to work. • Ubuntu 12.04: Does grub support multidevice boot from btrfs?

  I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) with grub 1.99. I installed on a RAID10 multidevice BTRFS partition. I thought that multidevice support is included in grub for a while but on boot I'm dropped to a initramfs shell, because it fails to mount root ("invalid argument"). This is actually the same message I get if I want to mount a btrfs volume without executing btrfs device scan. Therefore I wonder: Does Ubuntu's grub version even support boot from btrfs mutlidevice ?

  I have 2 USB DVD drives. One that I borrowed from work which I have been testing with which works fine for me, which is why I brought one of myself.   I am trying to install a dummy sound card on a Windows Server machine (in Amazon EC2 cloud) in order for one of my application to work. I'm trying to accomplish that with Virtual Audio Cable and REAUDIO3. Both tools managed to install a new device on my Windows XP machine, but on Windows Server, no new devices appear.   The reason I want to do this is most of the time I have the computer plugged into a 52" LCD in another room displaying information. Occasionally I need to update the software and to do so I need to see what I am doing so I plug a monitor in locally. Problem is that it automatically adopts the device capabilities of the new monitor and thus changing the settings for the large screen. I then have to go to a networked administration panel for the software to update the resolution settings.
