The form contains inputs such as "Name" and "Gender", but I am just trying to get the auto completion to work with the "Name" field.   • HTML: Nesting DIVs problem

    I am coding a form generator. So far, so good, then I decided to give it a real test. I made a form with some nested each holding a few controls. I will post the HTML at the end. If you load it into a browser, it renders, but is obviously wrong. I had previously tested using the W3C validator and things were fine, but that was for non nested. When I validate a form with nested I get errors: Error Line 13, Column 117: document type does not allow element "DIV" here …style="position: absolute; top:88px; left: 256px; width: 145px; height: 21px;"> So, how do I correct that? What do I do with nested FIELDSETs?   • HSDPA modem only working on certain USB ports

    Depending on which USB port I use to connect my HSDPA modem, the network manager will connect to the internet or not. I used to work (i.e. established a internet connection automatically) on all ports, but over time it simply stopped on some ports. lsusb output in all cases looks like that (Device ID varies depending on USB port): Bus 001 Device 009: ID 12d1:1003 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E220 HSDPA Modem / E270 HSDPA/HSUPA Modem Any ideas what could cause this behaviour? What can I do to fix this? ADDED One additional information about the modem: if connected via USB it will be available as as harddrive AND as a HSDPA modem (kind of a duality...). In the error case, it will only be shown as a harddrive.   • Recording Audio through M-Audio Keystudio

    Hi, I'm trying to get my M-Audio Keystudio (which has an audio input as well as the keyboard) to record audio to Audacity. I'm in Ubuntu 10.10. When I look at the Sound Preferences I can select "M-Audio RunTime DFU Analog Stereo" as my input device. However, when I try to record in Audacity, Audacity remains frozen. The program seems to be running and recording, but the recording cursor won't advance. If I reset the audio input to the internal sound card, recording works normally. Any ideas what to look for?

Now, what if I remove the ‘ref’ keyword? Wait a minute… now how could this be? This is because string is an immutable type. This means that any time you modify an instance of string, new memory address is allocated to the instance. The effect is similar to ‘new’ing up the Employee instance inside the CallSomeMethod in the absence of the ‘ref’ keyword. Verdict: ref key came to the rescue and saved the planet… again!

    My problem is pretty much a duplicate of the one described in USB mouse late to load , but the solution there has not worked for me. I'm running the same OS and experiencing the exact same issue. It disappears after 10 seconds or so.     I want to build a TCG for mobile devices that is multiplayer over the web (not local wifi or bluetooth). As a player plays cards I want the second player to see what is being played in "real time" (within a few seconds). Only one player can play at a time. Server requirements: 1) Continuously listens for input from Player 1 2) As it receives input from Player 1, sends the message to Player 2 I know some PHP, but it seems like unless I had a loop that continued until I broke it (seems like a bad idea) the script would just receive one input and quit. On the mobile side I know I can open sockets using various frameworks, but what language allows a "stream-like" behavior that continuously listens/sends messages on the server? Or if I'm missing something, what would be the best practice here?

    I have been using Java 6 on Ubuntu 11.10, but now I want to update to version 7. I've installed version 7 via PPA as described here. If I run sudo update-alternatives --config java I get the following output: There are 2 choices for the alternative java (providing /usr/bin/java). His post reminded me I have been meaning to write a post on WCC trace sections for a while. searchcache - Tells you if you query was found in the WCC search cache. searchquery - Shows the processing of the query as it is converted form what the user submitted to the end query that will be sent to the database. Shows conversion from the universal query syntax to the syntax specific to the search solution WCC is configured to use. services (verbose) - Lists the filters that are called for each service. This will let you know what filters are available for each service and will also tell you what filters are used by WCC add-on components and any custom components you have installed. The How To Component Sample has a list of filters, but it has not been updated since 7.5, so it is a little outdated now. With each new release WCC adds more filters. We turned on the systemdatabase trace section and thought we had the problem database call, but it turned out since it printed out the database call after it was executed we were looking at the database call BEFORE the one causing the deadlock. We ended up having to turn on tracing at the database level to see the database call WCC was making that was causing the deadlock. socketrequests (verbose) - dumps the actual messages received and sent over the socket connection by WCC for a service. If you have gzip enabled you will see junk on the response coming back from WCC. The WCC developers decide when to use the verbose option for their trace output, so sometime you need to try verbose to see what different information you get. One of the things I would always have liked to see if the ability to turn on verbose output selectively for individual trace sections. When you turn on verbose output you get it for all trace sections you have enabled. This can quickly fill up your trace files with a lot of information if you have the socket trace section turned on.

  • How to switch 'default' sound device controlled by hardware keys in Xubuntu?

    I installed xubuntu-desktop on a 12.04 Ubuntu upgrade after finding Gnome3 lacking. I've mostly been happy, but I've found an odd and frustrating bug. My laptop has two sound 'outputs' - an HDMI-out plug I never use, and the onboard speakers/headphones. For some reason, the hardware keys have been mapped to the HDMI output, even if I set it as 'fallback' in pavucontrol, and notify-osd only displays changes in the HDMI output (though the panel indicator volume control controls onboard sound). I'd ideally like both hardware keys and notify-osd to be looking at the onboard sound, though if I can't get notify-osd it's an acceptable loss. Having to click through a bunch of stuff to change volume is driving me crazy, though. Googling suggested that it /may/ be a Pulseaudio/ALSA conflict, but the hardware keys seem to change at least indicated volume in pavucontrol for HDMI as expected (I don't have an HDMI cable to test actual sound output)

    I am trying to write a simple piece of code in JavaScript where a button toggles the activation of a shield, by dragging a prefab with Resources.load("ActivateShieldPreFab") and destroying it again (Haven't implemented that yet). I wish to assign this button through the inspector, so I have created a string variable which appears as intended in the inspector. Though it doesn't seem to register the inspector input, even though I changed the value through the inspector. It only provides the error: "Input Key named: is unknown" When the button name is assigned within the code, there is no issues.   • lubuntu - Sound card detected but no sound

    I installed Lubuntu 12.10 on my old laptop (Sharp Mebius PC-MR80J), but sound does not work. Here are things I tried. aplay -l does not output anything. When I run alsamixer, I see only one bar that says "Beep". I installed pavucontrol, pulseaudio, pulseaudio-utils and libgtk-3-0 and checked output devices, but I only see "Dummy ouput" and there is no hardware output devices. cat /proc/asound/cards returns the following. 0 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel HDA Intel at 0xfeb38000 irq 40 cat /proc/asound/devices outputs the following. 1: : sequencer 2: [ 0- 1]: hardware dependent 3: [ 0- 0]: hardware dependent 4: [ 0] : control 33: : timer The laptop was running Windows XP before and sound (both input and outpu) was working. What can I do now?

    I'm a programmer with a two-hour round trip commute to work each day. I'd like to fill some of that time with audiobooks about software development. Any audiobooks that would help me become a better programmer would be appreciated. I'm thinking that books about design patterns and non-fiction about computing history might be good here, but I'm open to anything. Keeping in mind that I will be listening to this in a car, what are the best audiobooks that I can listen to? EDIT: Many people have also suggested podcasts. This is appreciated, but since podcasts arrive in a constantly arriving stream of data rather than as a finite amount of data, ways to juggle all of these different content streams would also be appreciated. To be more specific to my situation, my commuting vehicle has an MP3 CD player, USB input for MP3 files, and AUX input. I own Android and webOS devices that can be plugged into the AUX input.

  • Working with packed dates in SSIS

    One of the challenges recently thrown my way was to read an EBCDIC flat file, decode packed dates, and insert the dates into a SQL table.  For those unfamiliar with packed data, it is a way to store data at the nibble level (half a byte), and was often used by mainframe programmers to conserve storage space.  In the case of my input file, the dates were 2 bytes long and  represented the number of days that have past since 01/01/1950.  My first thought was, in the words of Scooby, Hmmmmph?  But, I love a good challenge, so I dove in. Reading in the flat file was rather simple.  The only difference between reading an EBCDIC and an ASCII file is the Code Page option in the connection manager.  In my case, I needed to use Code Page 1140 for EBCDIC (I could have also used Code Page 37).       Once the code page is set correctly, SSIS can understand what it is reading and it will convert the output to the default code page, 1252.  However, packed data is either unreadable or produces non-alphabetic characters, as we can see in the preview window.   Column 1 is actually the packed date, columns 0 and 2 are the values in the rest of the file.  We are only interested in Column 1, which is a 2 byte field representing a packed date.  We know that 2 bytes of packed data can be stored in 1 byte of character data, so we are working with 4 packed digits in 2 character bytes.  If you are confused, stay tuned….this will make sense in a minute.   Right-click on your Flat File Source shape and select “Show Advanced Editor”. Here is where the magic begins. By changing the properties of the output columns, we can access the packed digits from each byte. By default, the Output Column data type is DT_STR. Since we want to look at the bytes individually and not the entire string, change the data type to DT_BYTES. Next, and most important, set UseBinaryFormat to TRUE. This will write the HEX VALUES of the output string instead of writing the character values.  Now we are getting somewhere!     Hi, I'm trying to get my M-Audio Keystudio (which has an audio input as well as the keyboard) to record audio to Audacity. I'm in Ubuntu 10.10. When I look at the Sound Preferences I can select "M-Audio RunTime DFU Analog Stereo" as my input device. However, when I try to record in Audacity, Audacity remains frozen. The program seems to be running and recording, but the recording cursor won't advance. If I reset the audio input to the internal sound card, recording works normally. Any ideas what to look for?

  • Terminal stops working after closing a program window started from the Terminal

    System: I have XUbuntu 12.04 64bit and run Terminal 0.4.8 (Xfce Terminal Emulator). Problem: My Terminal always stops to accept any input after I close a program window started from the Terminal. Details: For example, I start leafpad, (or geany, tkdiff etc) from the terminal. I close the window after finishing my job by either clicking on the close button or using ctrl-w. Then when I go back to the terminal, it does not accept any input any more. Workaround: When this happens, I have to click on any other window (giving it the focus) and go back to Terminal again. Usually this causes the Terminal to starts to accept input again. So I always have to do a alt-tab, shift-alt-tab after I close a program started from Terminal. This is very annoying. Googled and did not find answer.

  • Mouse takes a while to start working after boot

    I just recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 (64 bit) and a number of my USB devices have stopped working. At least, they don't work for the first 3-5 minutes. I have two mice (one wireless, one wired) and a camera, which seem to take Ubuntu 3-5 minutes to recognize after booting up.     I capture video from old TV tuner card - Pinnacle PCTV - using VLC. The video is from the Composite input and audio is from I guess the mixer or Line in. The command I use is: vlc v4l2:///dev/video0:normal=pal:width=720:height=576:input=1 :input-slave="alsa://hw:0,0" In VLC, I have enabled the Advanced Controls toolbar, which allows me to record videos when I want to. However, these videos are uncompressed - very big and play only with VLC. Totem throws the "Could not demultiplex stream" error. I need to convert them using WinFF to reduce their size and make them playable with Totem and other software. My question is whether I can configure the recording settings - the codecs and the bitrate, and also get the stream demultiplexed. If I pass any -sout parameter with command I get a "Segmentation fault". I use 64-bit Ubuntu 10.10.
