  • Webcam on Sony Vaio on Win 7 problem

    Anyone know where I can get a Win 7 32Bit driver for my Web Cam (Vaio VGN-CR11H/B) ? I changed operating system from Chinese Vista to English Win 7 Update: Windows 7 will not detect the cam, but I just read the Sony Europe site and it gives me some ideas to try. I can dual boot this Sony laptop: with Chinese Vista, the camera works but IE8 does not work. I cannot read Chinese to fix the Internet access issue, but I can get the computer online and Skype works. When I boot with the new Win 7, IE 8 works great, but the cam doesn't work (mic and speakers work). Very perplexing problem.

  • Should I worry about making my picasa web albums public?

    I choose the public option for all my albums in Picasaweb, these mostly (90%) contain pictures of my children which I share with my family. Ever so often somebody I don't know adds me as a favorite, at current count I have 7 people in my fan list (non of whom I know) and only three of them have any public albums. Is this creepy? I take care not to upload any pictures that may attract perverts What would you recommend, private by default or continue with public?

    I installed Kismet on my Ubuntu 10.04 machine as apt-get install kismet every thing seems to work fine. but when I launch it I see following error kismet Launching kismet_server: //usr/bin/kismet_server Suid priv-dropping disabled.   • Resume ./configure after solving dependency requirement

    Sorry about my bad English. Here's the question: Is there a way to resume ./configure script from where it stopped just after fixing a dependency requirement? It seems that the script runs for a long time just until it throws me another unsatisfied dependency... After I fix it, the ./configure script starts running from zero again. This would sure save me a few minutes every time I compile a package which I don't have easy access to its dependencies. Does this resuming depend on the publisher providing caching for its configure script, or is there something I can do about that? Any ideas? Thank you.

Is there any way to just create warnings instead of circuital errors for some services?   • Help on using mod_rewrite to serve I18N static site

    My static site www.example.com is translated in different languages and files are organized in this hierarchy: / /de index.html seite-1.html /en index.html page-1.html /it index.html pagina-1.html The root contains no files, just one subdirectory for each language the site is translated in, while subdirectories contain pages translated (both content and file name are) in the language corresponding to subdirectory name, de, en, it, etc. The question is: how to configure mod_rewrite so that when a client visits www.example.com it is taken to the correct version of the site, falling back to english version if the required locale is not supported (i.e. Accept-Language header doesn't exist or specifies a language for which the site is not available, e.g. fr)?     I just installed Windows 7 and I want all users signing in to the computer to see the Language Bar customized with the following three languages: "English (American)" "French (Standard)" "Chinese (Simplified PRC)" I am running the following four lines of code at log on in order to change the registry such that each user will see the language bar, and then have access to the three keyboard layouts mentioned above. reg add "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\CTF\LangBar" /v ShowStatus /t REG_DWORD /d 4 /f reg add "HKCU\Keyboard Layout\Preload" /v 2 /d 0000040c reg add "HKCU\Keyboard Layout\Preload" /v 3 /d 00000c0a reg add "HKCU\Keyboard Layout\Preload" /v 4 /d 00000804 The above works fine, but with one small/major inconvenience: the user has to log off and then log back on in order for these changes to take effect and see the language bar, as described above. The question becomes: How can I force these changes to take effect so that users don't have to log off and then log back in to see the language bar. This has to be done automatically when users log in.

  • Bios wont post unless I restart power supply.

    I have an annoying problem with a computer. The BIOS wont post after it has been turned off and started again unless I turn the switch off/on on the power supply. The fans, cdrom hdd and everything starts running but the bios never beeps and the monitor stays black. I HAVE TRIED: reinstalling windows xp, flashed bios to latest, cmos clear, new power supply, other hdd, new memory sticks, graphics card. I also removed the motherboard from the computer case and laid it on a cardboard box and only connected the PSU, RAM and CPU. Other than this the computer works great but its annoying having to off/on the power supply switch before turning it on after its been off. My guess is that the motherboard is faulty but I would just like to hear what you guys think. Sorry for my english / Remy

    I'm looking for an HP USB 104-Key Modular Keyboard with Detachable Number Pad (model number is DT530A, I believe), shown at this online store, where it's quite cheap but is sadly sold out. I've searched for hours on Google, and I've found several - the problem is they're Spanish or Greek keyboards but I need one in English (US keys preferred)! I would also be happy with a keyboard which is not exactly this but is similar, either with a detachable keypad or with no keypad at all, as long as the keyboard key layout and positioning is the same as on a standard keyboard. Can you help me find such a keyboard?

  • OpenDNS-like 404 page in home network

    People who use OpenDNS and go to a non-existing domain are getting a nice fancy search page telling them that the domain doesn't exists instead of the browser error page. Here in my home network we have a Windows 2008 R2 server with the DNS role enabled. Is there any way to make my own fancy looking error page to show up at all computers when they enter a domain not found by the local DNS server and the forwarders / root hints servers?

  • Virtualbox - USB Devices don't install correctly using Windows 7

    I am trying to install the drivers for my HTC Magic (2.1) and my iPod Touch "3G" 8GB (4.1), but when I plug them in, neither of them successfully install their drivers. They work perfectly fine when running on Windows natively, why are they behaving like this on Virtual Box? I am using Windows 7 (AMD64) - Natively & Non Natively. Ubuntu 10.10 - Also Natively Virtual Box 4.0.0 Hopefully someone has encountered this before and has an answer XD

  • Change google search location beyond current country

    I often work remotely and prefer using en-us locale settings for my searches. One of our computers is located in Germany, and whenever I try to change the location in Google Search Settings, I get an answer to "Pleas enter a valid Deutschland city or zip code". I checked this post, but it doesn't apply, as my language settings en-us and the Google search language is also set to English. It clearly uses the IP address of the computer. I couldn't find an answer in the Google help pages, anyone any idea how to change it London, New-York or Amsterdam?

    hello. i`m in a lan using iptables/masquerade. what i want to do, is to login in a web application.i write my user and passwd and click login and everything is fine, but if i try to modify something in that aplication it tells me that i have a wrong ip address.i knwo for sure that this app only allows ip 10.3.x.x .how can i trick that application to think that i have an ip from class 10.3.x.x and not my wan ip? 10x sorry for my bad english!

  • Zabbix not getting data for one filesystem

    I have Zabbix monitoring disk space for several volumes on several servers. It works fine on all of them except for one of the volumes on one of the servers which always reports as 0. However, when I run ./zabbix_get -s localhost -p 10050 -k 'vfs.fs.size[/home, free]' locally on the machine in question, it gives me the correct, non-zero size which matches the output of df. How can I go about troubleshooting and correcting this problem?

  • How to call a program and exit from the shell (the caller) when program is active?

    I want to run a program with GUI, by typing into konsole: foo args … and exit from the shell (that's the caller) when the program (foo) is active. How do I this? Is there a Linux/Unix built-in command/program to do it? I'm not a shell-man, really. I know that it's possible by writing a small program in C or C++ (any other programming language with small I/O interface on POSIX) programming language with the fork() and one-of exec*() function family. It may take some time; I'll do it only if there is no native solution. Sorry for my bad English; it's not my native language. Also, not sure on tags, please edit for me, if I'm wrong. If it matters, I'm using OpenSUSE 10.x.
