  I am trying to make a program that will find similar images from a dataset of images. The steps are 1)extract SURF descriptors for all images 2)store the descriptors 3)Apply knn on the stored descriptors 4)Match the stored descriptors to the query image descriptor using KNN Now each images SURF descriptor will be stored as Hierarchical k means tree, now do I store each tree as a separate file or is it possible to build some sort of single tree with all the images descriptors and updated as images are added to dataset. • SSRS and cached reports

  Hi, I'm opening an SSRS2008 report using the http://server/reportserver/... syntax, outputting directly a PDF copy. This report has several parameters. The problem is that, despite making changes to the report, and clearing the browser's temporary files cache.. if I request the same report (i.e. same parameters) - the old report is returned. In the report execution properties, I have "Always run this report with the most recent data" and "Do not cache temporary copies of this report" selected. It's not just a case of caching data, but the entire report (including formatting, e.g. I deleted a page from the report yet it was still being shown...) and as I haven't specifically chosen to perform any caching I'm a little concerned and clearly don't fully understand what's going on! Any tips?

• App Engine - Save response from an API in the data store as file (blob)

  Hi there, I'm banging my head against the wall with this one: What I want to do is store a file that is returned from an API in the data store as a blob. Here is the code that I use on my local machine (which of course works due to an existing file system): client.convertHtml(html, open('html.pdf', 'wb')) Since I cannot write to a file on App Engine I tried several ways to store the response, without success. Any hints on how to do this? I was trying to do it with StringIO and managed to store the response but then weren't able to store it as a blob in the data store. Thanks, Chris

I am trying to attach files to mail using, [mail addAttachmentData:attachmentData mimeType:@"image/png" fileName:fileName]; but the problem is that if i need to send a .jpeg image i need to repeat code just for setting mime type to "mimeType:@"image/jpeg". My question is that is there any general mimeType that can attach any kind of file irrespective of .doc,.ppt,.pdf or an audio or video file. is there any general mimeType: for an kind of attachment. • Which file types are worth compressing (zipping) for remote storage? For which of them the compresse

  I am storing documents in sql server in varbinary(max) fileds, I use filestream optionally when a user has: (DB_Size + Docs_Size) ~> 0.8 * ExpressEdition_Max_DB_Size I am currently zipping all the files, anyway this is done because the Document Read/Write work was developed 10 years ago where Storage was more expensive than now. Many files when zipped are almost as big as the original (a zipped pdf is about 95% of original size). And anyway unzipping has some overhead, that becomes twice when I need also to "Check-in"/Update the file because I need to zip it. So I was thinking of giving to the users the option to choose whether the file type will be zipped or not by providing some meaningful default values. For my experience I would impose the following rules: 1) zip by default: txt, bmp, rtf 2) do not zip by default: jpg, jpeg, Microsoft Office files, Open Office files, png, tif, tiff Could you suggest other file types chosen among the most common or comment on the ones I listed here?

  I am using replaceWith for input type=file to handle changes of the file the user wants to upload. I have this code: $('#add_cv_input').change(function() { // here is some code else { alert('put one of this: pdf doc docx'); $("#add_cv_input").replaceWith('<input id="add_cv_input" type="file"/>'); } }); now the problem is that this jquery changed event does not being called after the first time that the user had uploaded the wrong extension. I don't have a clue why this is happening. Everything works fine if at the first time the user uploads a valid extension and then he changes it to other valid extension.

• Is there a font that can't be recognised by an OCR?

  I am trying to write a document that can only be read by humans. The document content can't be copied. For that purpose, I am converting its pages to pictures and adding them back to a PDF file. The main issue is that any OCR program can get back the whole written text, especially that the page is going to be clear (as opposed to a scanned book) which will increase the OCR accuracy. So, is there a font that can't be recognized by an OCR. Otherwise, is there a technique that will make my document only readable by humans, yet unrecognised by an OCR? (for instance, adding a specific background, etc...) Thank you in advance.

  I am currently evaluating JMS and I don't get what I could use it for. Currently, I believe this would be a Usecase: I want to create a SalesInvoice PDF and print it when an SalesOrder leaves the Warehouse, so during the Delivery transaction I could send a transactional print request which just begins when the SalesOrder transaction completes successfully. Now I found out most JMS products are standalone server. Why would a need a Standalone Server for Message Processing, vs. e.g. some simple inproc processing with Quartz scheduler? How does it interact with my application? Isn't it much too slow? What are Usecases you already implemented successfully?

For example, the Miscellaneous Mathematical Symbols-A block has an entry in hash like this: my %symbols = ( ... miscellaneous_mathematical_symbols_a => [(0x27C0..0x27CA), 0x27CC, (0x27D0..0x27EF)], ... ) The simpler, 'continuous' array miscellaneous_mathematical_symbols_a => [0x27C0..0x27EF] doesn't work because Unicode blocks have holes in them. For example, there's nothing at 0x27CB. Take a look at the code chart [PDF]. Writing these arrays by hand is tedious, error-prone and a bit fun. And I get the feeling that someone has already tackled this in Perl!

  I have a number of very poor-quality pdf documents that look like 80's photocopies, which I'm rebuilding in Flash (Flex Builder 3 MXML application), representing paragraphs of text in TextAreas so that selected portions can be bold or italic, or whatever I need. I need a way to apply toolTips or event listeners to individual words within the block of text to link those words to a glossary. I'm perfectly happy to create a definition panel that is populated and made visible with a mouseOver, but don't know how to do it to just a portion of the text. Is there a good / clean / easy way to do this?

• SSRS 2008: How to do multiple values report?

  Hi everyone, Right now I have an application which uses Reporting Services to render reports. This is working nicely, I call each report with a given value (e.g. a ClientId), and the report gets rendered correctly. However, what I'd like to do now is being able to send multiple ClientIDs to the report, and would like to get 1 pdf file with count(ClientsIDs) pages, each containing the report, according to the ClienID. How is that possible? I don't really know how to name what I want to do, so I don't really find answers on the net right now. Maybe someone has a tutorial for me? Thanks in advance !

And How is it different from .bin (Binary) format. Because everything is Basically saved in Binary Form. And How is BITMAP Image different from .jpg format.

• Using vim, how do you quickly refresh a web page you're working on?

  I've been using VIM for a few weeks now while messing with various web languages and I'm really enjoying it. I find it cumbersome having to tab or click into my browser and refresh the page to see the effect of a code change. It's even more annoying as I'm using Virtual Box and I tend to be working from PDF files on the host system so I have limited window space. Do you gurus have any fancy ways of doing this? I was wondering if it's possible to split the VIM workspace and have links/lynx in a window of its own or something to that effect?

Some days ago I got the idea (probably inspired by reading some objective c code) to include the default implementations as an inner class. Now some colleagues (all with much more java experience than me) saw this idea - feedback was between shocked and surprised ("this is working?"). • VB.NET Use WebRequest to check if URI is valid

  Looking for the best way to determine if a URI exists in VB.NET without downloading the actual content. System.IO.FileExists/My.Computer.FileSystem.FileExists can be used locally to determine if a file exists, is there an equivalent for the Web? Currently I am using a HttpWebRequest to check URI existance using the ResponseStream. This populates the stream if the target does exist and throws an exception if it doesn't. The function is being expanded to also check for PDF files (typically 5MB +), images, etc and it will be a waste of time/bandwidth to actually populate the content into a stream. In the case of "Success" (the target does exist) I do not wish to download the file or page, simply to end up with a Boolean which indicates the whether something exists at the end of this URI.

  Hello all, I'm writing a program that simulates various random walks (with differing distributions). At each timestep, I need randomly generated, two dimensional step distances and angles from the distribution of the random walk. I'm hoping someone can check my understanding of how to generate these random numbers. As I understand it I can use Inverse Transform Sampling as follows: If f(x) is the pdf of our random walk that has a non-uniform distribution, and y is a random number from a uniform distribution. Then if we let f(x) = y and solve to find x then we have a random number from the non-uniform distribution. Is this a feasible solution?

  There's this programing language called Med-PC that works with animal behavior. I'm trying to learn a bit about it, but i can't seem to find any kind of books or material about it. I've "google it" but all i seem to find are some references about it and a PDF explaining the installing of the program itself and sensors(for the experiments), not actual programing instructions. • Suggest encoding which removes slashes which I can use as the format for REST-style URL-paramteters

  Given a path to a REST style URL: http://site.com/rest/customer/foo/robot/bar/1 When you GET it, it returns a PDF to the foo-customer containing page 1 of the bar-URL. While foo is the name of the customer bar is an URL. The URL usually contains slashes and might look something like this: http://anothersite.com/interestingarticle.html As REST URL's separate arguments by slashes I can't just put it into the REST URL above. Which encoding should I use? I can't use Base 64 as it utilizes the slash as well. As a technical note I will encode the URL in a .NET-application and decode it in PHP.

  I am working on a Excel 2007 workbook that will contain a macro to save the current sheet (a template) as a PDF file (no problem) a Excel 97-2003 file (problem) When saving the Excel file a messagebox appears asking about "Defined names of formulas in this workbook may display different values when they are recalculated...Do you want Excel to recalculate all formulas when this workbook is opened?". The user can then select Yes/No and then the file will save. How do I disable the messagebox from appearing? The default answer would be 'No'. • How to Print reports in Silverlight 4

  I am wondering if there is anything built in to Silverlight, or possibly c# to allow for printing reports? I'd be happy with any number of methods: exporting files to a pdf format and printing from there, exporting as a text document of some sort and printing from there, or just simply showing the print dialog from the web application itself. I know there are ways to do this in C#, but the c# code-behind is different for many things in Silverlight applications and I can't seem to find anything that will work. So if anyone has any ideas on things I could try it would be very much appreciated! Thank you!
