• Changing Filename Case with TortoiseSVN on Windows [migrated]

  I've been working on a development project using a Windows machine as a test server. Eventually, I'd like the "live" version to end up on a Linux machine. While trying to test on the Linux machine, it became apparent that I needed to change the case of several file names as Windows was case insensitive but Linux wasn't. When I changed the file name case in Windows, TortoiseSVN recognized that the file hand changed and marked my folders appropriately. However, when I tried to commit my changes, not only did TortoiseSVN tell me that no changes had been made, but it had actually reverted all of the file name changes I had made back to their original case. My question is, is there a simple way to alter the file name case from a Windows PC and have the changes appear in my repository? I'd like to avoid any kind of delete, commit, replace, commit scenario to keep my commits tidy if possible. Thanks!

• D3D9 Alpha Blending on the surfaces

  I have a surface (OffScreenPlain or RenderTarget with D3DFMT_A8R8G8B8) which I copy pixels (ARGB) to, from a third party function. Before pixel copying, Bits are accessed by LockRect. This surface is then StretchRect to the Backbuffer which is (D3DFMT_A8R8G8B8). Surface and Backbuffer are different dimensions. Filtering is set to D3DTEXF_NONE. Just after creating the d3d device I've set following RenderState settings D3DRS_ALPHABLENDENABLE -> TRUE D3DRS_BLENDOP -> D3DBLENDOP_ADD D3DRS_SRCBLEND -> D3DBLEND_SRCALPHA D3DRS_DESTBLEND -> D3DBLEND_INVSRCALPHA But I see no alpha blending happening. I've verified that alpha is specified in pixels. I've done a simple test by creating a vertex buffer and drawing a triangle (DrawPrimitive) which displays with alpha blending. In this test surface was StretchRect first and then DrawPrimitive, and the surface content displays without alpha blending and the triangle displays with alpha blending. What am I missing here? • how does server communication work in a flash game with a php backend

  I am trying to create a browser game using actionscript/flash. Currently, I'm trying to understand how I would go about creating a back-end which interfaced with my MySQL database. As far as I understand, If I create a php file on a webserver called test.php and then navigate to a webpage hosted on the server eg. www.example.com/test, the php script will run and display the result in my browser. This would use http. Is this how communication between client and server usually works in a flash game? for example, if the game needed to query the db. Would actionscript have to essentially invoke the url of the php script that would execute the query? it could then parse the data and use it. If this is the case, then is JSON considered a good way to transfer data over http?

• Faulty memtest result

  I've been a bit suspicious about my RAM lately. They seem not work like i expect them to. For instance i run a lot of Virtual Test Environments in VMware Workstation and lately Ubuntu starts to lag just running 4 virtual machines each dedicated 512 MB. BTW im having 6GB memory on my laptop. This did not use to be a problem for me on my last laptop that even had a lot lower CPU resources. So i was led to try a memtest after reading some websites about RAM testing. So i did a memtest overnight but when i woke up this morning i was just looping and i could not Exit or do anything. It was just looping the number of errors besides test 7 which you can see in the lower right part of the screenshot. Can anyone interpret this screenshot for me? Do i have a faulty set of RAMs?

• Check for bodies within a specific circle in Box2D

  I'm trying to find positions to insert new bodies into my world. For that, I'd like to have a "free" spot where this body wouldn't overlap with anything else. So my plan was to sample "random" positions and check whether they overlap with my "potential" new body. Since my bodies are always circular, I'd need to test within a given circle. So far, the only way to use box2d for this seems to use b2World::QueryAABB around my circle and manually doing an overlap test with all the fixtures it gives me (Box2D doesn't event seem to allow me to tap into its overlapping tests?!). It seems to me like Box2D should already provide such functionality - is there a way that lets me do this without reinventing most of the wheel again?

• Writing selenium tests, should I just get it done or get it right?

  I'm attempting to drive my user interface (heavy on javascript) through selenium. I've already tested the rest of my ajax interaction with selenium successfully. However, this one particular method seems to be eluding me because I can't seem to fake the correct click event. I could solve this problem by simply waiting in the test for the user to click a point and then continuing with the test but this seems like a cop out. But I'm really running out of time on my deadline to have this done and working. Should I just get this done and move on or should I spend the extra (unknown) amount of time to fix this problem and be able to have my selenium tests 100% automated?

  In the context of Continuous Integration, I need to teach unit testing to a 20-people audience of programmers. Everything will be all right, but I am still trying to find the perfect unit testing example. More than writing tests like a robot, I want to show that unit testing can help prevent very subtle errors. I am thinking of the following scenario to happen when doing a live TDD demo: the test cases would already be written, we would have to write methods together, most of us would naturally have forgotten to handle a specific case for a method, everyone would then be surprised, when seeing that all tests don't pass, the failing test would make us think more and realize that we forgot an important case. My question will probably finish as "too broad" or "not clear what you are asking", but we never know, one of you might have a great idea. Your answer can use Java and JUnit, though any other language will be fine since only the idea will matter.

Have Microsoft made updated XP VPC images available? If not, have they commented on the situation? Do they provide any alternative method to test web apps in IE 6?   I post the origin question in stackoverflow, some people suggest me to post here I've always have trouble with dynamic language like Python. Several problems: Typo error, I can use pylint to reduce some of these errors. But there's still some errors that pylint can not figure out. Object type error, I often forgot what type of the parameter is, int? str? some object? Also, forgot the type of some object in my code. Unit test might help me sometimes, but I'm not always have enough time to do UT. When I need a script to do a small job, the line of code are 100 - 200 lines, not big, but I don't have time to do the unit test, because I need to use the script as soon as possible. So, many errors appear. So, any idea on how to reduce the number of these problems?

• Why am I getting domainpark.cgi being called from my website?

  I used to test my site on www.exampleone.com and now I have moved to the real domain www.realdomain.com now and www.exampleone.com is now parked by 1and1 (default). Now when I test to see which requests are made by the www.realdomain.comI see domainpark.cgi and park.js from Sedo Parking also being requested as well as the js that serves the ads by adclicks. How do I get rid of this? It's not on the index page at all, and it's causing a lot of strain and slowing my site down.

• Is it safe to convert Windows file paths to Unix file paths with a simple replace?

  So for example say I had it so that all of my files will be transferred from a windows machine to a unix machine as such: C:\test\myFile.txt to {somewhere}/test/myFile.txt (drive letter is irrelevant at this point). Currently, our utility library that we wrote ourselves provides a method that does a simple replace of all back slashes with forward slashes: public String normalizePath(String path) { return path.replaceAll("\\", "/"); } Slashes are reserved and cannot be part of a file name, so the directory structure should be preserved. However, I'm not sure if there are other complications between windows and unix paths that I may need to worry about (eg: non-ascii names, etc)

  I have problem with Google Chrome and Theora video. I have video that plays nice in Opera and Firefox. However, it doesn't play in Google browser and I don't know why. I am not interested in encoding in WebM or h.264, this time. I am not asking what is the best way to publish video on a website. I only do experiments with Ogg Theora. • WinTV-HVR-1900 no picture in VLC

  I've connected a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1900 to my Ubuntu 10.10 PC and used the instructions here to install the firmware and test that it is detected using dmesg. Detection is successful. The WinTV is connected to my TV using component connections. I run this command to enable the component interface: v4l2-ctl -i 1. Then I use cat /dev/video0 test.mpg, and that file is created and plays perfectly with video and sound. However, when I try to play /dev/video0 in VLC Player (and other players), I just get a black screen. I also try the v4l2-ctl -i 1 command before I try it in VLC, but I still get a black screen, and when I use v4l2-ctl -I, it shows it has connection 0 again (Television), so it reverts back to connection 0 instead of connection 1 (component). So I'm a little stuck with getting VLC to get a picture, even though the CAT command works fine. Anything I can try?

  I have Ubuntu 10 as the guest OS on a Windows 7 machine. I have been trying to setup shares through VirtualBox, but nothing is working. First, I create the share in VirtualBox and point it to a Windows folder. Then I try to mount the drive in Linux, but I keep getting /sbin/mount.vboxsf: mounting failed with the error: Protocol error I have read so many solutions to this, but none seem to work. I have tried: Using the mount.vboxsf syntax Reinstalling VBox additions Rebooting Enabling and trying as root account Any other ideas? In case I am doing something dumb, here are more details: I made a share called "Test" in VBox Shared folders. Then I made a directory in ubuntu named "test2". Then I tried to execute this command: sudo mount -t vboxsf Test /mnt/test2 Thank you!

  We're a group of 4 developers on a ajax/mysql/php web application. 2 of us end up focusing most of our efforts on testing the application, as it is time-consuming, instead of actually coding. When I say testing, I mean opening screens and testing links, making sure nothing is broken and the data is correct. I understand there are test frameworks out there which can automate this kind of testing for you, but I am not familiar with any of them (neither is anyone on the team), or the fancy jargon (is it test-driven? behavior-driven? acceptance testing?) So, we're looking to slowly incorporate automated testing. We're all programmers, so it doesn't have to be super-simple. But we don't want something that will take a week to learn... And it has to match our php/ajax platform... What do you recommend?

• How far back do you use your version control and for what reason?

  Typically when i work on a project i only go back a few days or the last major change when i decide to do something drastic. I sometimes notice i broke a test or a feature and overlooked it for a few weeks so i may go back a month or two and see if the feature or test is broken and trace down the week i broke it. Then find what change did it. On a long term project over the span of a year. Do you actually go back 6+ months and if so why?
