  • Random directories in c:\ that I cannot delete

    I just noticed a few directories in C:\ with long, random hex values. Each of these contains an update directory. When I click on the update directory, I get an access denied message, even though my account has admin privileges (XP Home). Two questions: How can I delete these folders, and how is it possible to restrict a folder this way?

  • How to determine JAVA_HOME on Debian/Ubuntu?

    On Ubuntu it is possible to have multiple JVMs at the same time. The default one is selected with update-alternatives. But this does not set the JAVA_HOME environment variable, due to a debian policy. I am writing a launcher script (bash), which starts a java application. This java application needs the JAVA_HOME environment variable. So how to get the path of the JVM which is currently selected by update-alternatives?

  • DNS works only with ip but does not work with NS CentOS + Bind9

    I am having a headache with DNS. Lets say my public IP is 1.2.3.4, my local IP is 192.168.0.10 and my domain is example.com I am running CentOS on a virtual machine (Parallels Desktop for Mac) with a LAN card reserved for it, so it gets Ip directly from the router. I have ports 80,443,53 forwarded to 192.168.0.10. Both Mac OS and CentOs firewalls are Off.   • Word 2007 Document Properties (gone wrong)

    I have copied a document which contains some properties which are displayed in fields in the text. Specifically the "Subject" property. If I update the properties in "Menu Prepare Properties", then navigate to the field in my document, right-click it and select "Update Field", I would expect the field in my document to be updated with the new value that was entered in the menu, but the opposite is happening. Is there some strange voodoo going on here?

    The reason I want to do this is most of the time I have the computer plugged into a 52" LCD in another room displaying information. Occasionally I need to update the software and to do so I need to see what I am doing so I plug a monitor in locally. Problem is that it automatically adopts the device capabilities of the new monitor and thus changing the settings for the large screen. I then have to go to a networked administration panel for the software to update the resolution settings.

    I am using Git for a test and production server and I'm trying to figure out the best way to update the production server. I have limited SSH access, and don't want to manually update my production server using FTP. I essentially would like to just be able to run a simple command and have the whole production server files match my dev.   • WPF Combobox textbox not updating when binding changes.

    I have a WPF CombBox as follows: <ComboBox ItemsSource="{Binding Source={StaticResource myList}}" SelectedItem="{Binding Path=mySelectedItem}" /> The problem I have is that when the bound value changes, the selected value in the combobox's textbox does not update. (Note - the values in the combobox list do update). I am using MVVM so I can detect in the view model when the binding changes and call a property changed event and this is updating the combobox, but not the value displayed within the textbox. I think this could be done in the template of the combobox - somehow make the textbox be bound to the selecteditem of the combobox, or always update when it updates? I don't know how to do this though so any advice would be most appreciated.

Now my questions: How can I move and merge 10.10's /boot on the new /boot partition What do I have to modify to rearrange the (automatic) entries? How can I have the entries contain the distribution name to reduce confusion? How can I make sure the grub configuration stays identical when either distribution updates?

  • Fan not working on thinkpad L430, laptop overheating

    I'm having problems controlling the fan of my Lenovo Thinkpad L430. The fan doesn't start. Without any fan control installed the fan just doesn't run. If I run stress, it does run a little, but it's nowhere near the speed it should be. After a while, the laptop just overheats and stops. I Tried to install tp-fancontrol, and enabled thinkpad_acpi fancontrol=1, but to no avail. If I try to set the fan speed manually, it doesn't start up. In windows, there's a program called TPFanControl. It turns out that this laptop uses a different scheme to control the fan than other thinkpads. The level runs from 0 to 255, and max = 0 and min=255. Now I'm looking for a fan control program that works for linux. Does anyone know if it actually exists? Anyone with any experience on fan control on a L430? Update: sudo pwmconfig gives the following output: # pwmconfig revision 5857 (2010-08-22) This program will search your sensors for pulse width modulation (pwm) controls, and test each one to see if it controls a fan on your motherboard. Note that many motherboards do not have pwm circuitry installed, even if your sensor chip supports pwm. We will attempt to briefly stop each fan using the pwm controls. The program will attempt to restore each fan to full speed after testing. However, it is ** very important ** that you physically verify that the fans have been to full speed after the program has completed. Found the following devices: hwmon0 is acpitz hwmon1/device is coretemp hwmon2/device is thinkpad Found the following PWM controls: hwmon2/device/pwm1 hwmon2/device/pwm1 is currently setup for automatic speed control. In general, automatic mode is preferred over manual mode, as it is more efficient and it reacts faster. Are you sure that you want to setup this output for manual control? (n) y Giving the fans some time to reach full speed... Found the following fan sensors: hwmon2/device/fan1_input current speed: 0 ... skipping! There are no working fan sensors, all readings are 0.     We've been working with the Visual Studio 2010 SDK and the TFS 2010 SDK a lot recently to create new Visual Studio Extensions. You can find these extensions in the Visual Studio Gallery. If you're a developer/programmer, you should check it out, they have some pretty cool tools out there. I'd be surprised if you told me you went there and couldn't find any tools that could help you. One of the new extensions Cory and I made is called TFS Auto Shelve. Check out the description and read about it below.   • SPWeb ProcessBatchData

    Hi all: I'm currently using SPWeb's ProcessBatchData to update a lot of list items/folders into Sharepoint database. For example, in one batch update I have ~1200 objects to update. I also run it numerous times during different phases in my app. I found that it is generally faster and more efficient in updating large amount of items. But lately the performance of the app has decreased as more processes get added to the app (and also more batch updates). I was wondering whether the ProcessBatchData would be a suspect in slowing down the app? E.g. temporarily locking up db, draining resources, lagging network, etc. Thanks.
