  • Screen rendering problems after upgrading to 12.10

    Since upgrading to Ubuntu 12.10 I'm suffering severe rendering issues in unity: Some parts of any application (for instance Firefox, or emacs, etc) are blank, or are not rendered, or are blinking. Some fonts in an application are not correct rendered, maybe only some part (see Eclipse screenshot). There is some shadows in desktop background. It's something that occurs from time to time (it's works great for hours and suddenly start to give this rendering problems). I was trying to find a bug in launchpad but without success. My card (using i915 module): 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0042] (rev 02) I've tried to reset compiz/unity or gnome but does not help.   • Synchronizing (updating) published files

    How can I update a published file and maintain the same URL? After saving an update of a published file on my desktop, it will automatically "synchronise" with the corresponding files at UbuntuOne (and it does). Problem is that the "new file", actually the updated file with the same name, is no longer published. Pressing the publish button results is a new URL. I now have to mail new URL's and change embedded links, as old URL will result in a failure to find the updated file (or indeed any file). I am not sure if it is a bug or a design flaw (maybe intentional?), but it seems strange to me.

  • Single statement if block - braces or no? [on hold]

    Which is better/more generally accepted? This: if(condition) { statement; } Or: if(condition) statement; I tend to prefer the first one, because I think it makes it easier to tell what actually belongs in the if block, it saves others from adding the braces later (or creating a bug by forgetting to), and it makes all your if statements uniform instead of some with braces and some without. The second one, however, is still syntactically correct and definitely more compact. I'm curious to see which is more generally preferred by others though.

    Hello, I created install script that will install SQL Server 2008 R2 on windows XP SP3, windows vista and windows 7. One of the command that i used in the installation is for silent installation of SQL Server 2008 R2. When i install it on windows XP everything works just fine but when i try to install it on Windows 7 i get an error. What am I doing wrong? Format the section to choose another condition field." Is there a way for me to know what field is it refering to? Any pointers on when should i start to look for the problem? I have verified the DB and it is pointing correctly and the Sp returns data. Thanks

    What am I trying to do: export data to csv. I have a form which allows user to select the format (from a drop down menu). So based on the selection of the format the ouput is displayed using a ajax call. Works fine for html but when I select the format as csv I don't see any pop up on the screen (asking to save or open the file) and neither any file gets downloaded directly. I tried using Fastercsv (but the problem is that I don't see any pop up asking me whether I want to save or open the file) and CSV::Writer where I get this error message on the console.   • .gitignore does not understand my folder wildcard on windows

    I'm encountering a weird issue with .gitignore on Windows. I want git to ignore all .exe files, except those in the Dependencies folder (and all subfolders). So I have: .gitignore: *.exe !/Dependencies/**/*.exe This, unfortunately, does not work. Meanwhile, this does: *.exe !/Dependencies/folder/subfolder/*.exe So I'm wondering, am I messing something up, or is this some kind of bug? I'm running msysgit on Windows (Windows 7 x64) version 1.6.5.1-preview20091022 Thanks in advance for any input :)

  • Visual Studio 2010 blurry font

    I'm using Visual C# 2010 Express (final, not beta or anything) and I'm having an issue with blurry fonts while debugging. The font appears normal everywhere (intellisense, menus, code) but when a breakpoint is reached most of the debugger related text is blurry (Locals, Call Stack, "data tooltips").     When I try to do this: [Export(typeof(IMyService))] [PartCreationPolicy(CreationPolicy.Shared)] private MyService Service { get { var service = new MyService(); service.Configure(); return service; } } I get a compile error: Attribute 'PartCreationPolicy' is not valid on this declaration type. It is only valid on 'class' declarations. Is this a bug? I don't see why MEF would allow property exports but not allow one to specify the part lifetime. Using VS2010 RC.

  • Trimming GIT Checkins

    I check my code into a GIT branch every few minutes or so, and the comments end up being things like "Everything broken starting again" and other absurdities. Then every few minutes/hours/days I do a serious checkin with a real comment like, "Fixed bug #22.55, 3rd time." How can I separate these two concepts? I would like to be able to remove all my frequent-checkins and just leave the serious ones.
