• execute javascsript for loop alternately forward and backward

  What I'm trying to do is iterate through an array in chunks, alternating the direction of iteration from chunk to chunk. Confused? So am I. For example, if I want to loop thru an array with 25 elements, but I want to do it in this order: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 19, 18, 17, 16, 15, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, what would be the most efficient way of doing this? I'm looking for something scalable because the array I'm working with now is actually 225 elements and I want to traverse it in 15 element chunks, but that may change at some point. So far, the only method I've figured out that actually works is to hard-wire the iteration order into a second array and then iterate through that in the normal way to get the indices for the original array. But that sucks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Django: ordering numerical value with order_by

  I'm in a situation where I must output a quite large list of objects by a CharField used to store street addresses. My problem is, that obviously the data is ordered by ASCII codes since it's a Charfield, with the predictable results .. it sort the numbers like this; 1, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 2, 20, 21.... Now the obvious step would be to change the Charfield the proper field type (IntegerField let's say), however it cannot work since some address might have apartments .. like "128A". I really don't know how I can order this properly ..

So my question is: Does the Standard allow an new [] to be called without specifying the size? Or this a bug in MSVC? Can someone provide a reference from the standard which will conclusively say that the above code example is ill-formed or well-formed? I have had a look at: 5.3.4 New [expr.new] & 18.4.1.2 Array forms [lib.new.delete.array] but couldnt find any conclusive evidence about the behavior.

  I have a problem in replacing codes in a dataframe of 3890 observations. My dataframe has a character variable df$IJN which contains values from 1 to 27. I would like to replace these with meaningful data as follow If(1 OR 6 OR 10 OR 14 OR 18 OR 22 OR 26) should be replaced with UL. If(3 OR 7 OR 11 OR 15 OR 19 OR 23 OR 27) should be replaced with LL. If(4 OR 8 OR 12 OR 16 OR 20 OR 24) should be replaced with UR. If(5 OR 9 OR 13 OR 17 OR 21 OR 25) should be replaced with LR. (U,L,R,and L Refer to Upper, Lower, Right, and Left sites in the order) I thought of a for() with if() could not manage with it Also thought of df[which(df=="27")] ="LL" may work one by one not sure!   I'm running a day for 30 kids aged 11-18 about computer game programming. They have all opted to do it, but they have no experience at all of programming. My main aim is for them to learn a few things: programming is hard/challenging programming is something they can learn to do being a computer games programmer != playing games all day a little more insight into how games actually work I'd thought of splitting them into two groups, of younger/less experience and older/more experience, then doing slightly different things. I'd considered showing them Scratch, Game Maker, before showing them the basics of Python and getting them to write a simple text based game (perhaps something like, computer picks a random number, you have to guess it in as few guesses as possible, computer says higher/lower for each guess). Does anyone have any ideas of things to do/show them/ways to teach them?

I only need the hours but since I have to save date. it appears like this: Date companyWorkStartHour; Date companyWorkEndHour; start hours: 12-12-2001-13:00:00 finish hours: 12-12-2001-18:00:00 I have the timezone of the company and of the user. (my server may be in another timezone). TimeZone userTimeZone; TimeZone companyTimeZone; I need to check if the user's current time (considering his timezone) is within the company working hours (considering the company's time zone). I think this thread will help people decide if TFS is for them vs. other source control systems. While TFS does a lot more than that, I think that source control is so critical to software development that any system (or combination thereof) that you pick needs to consider source control first. • Take advantage of multiple cores executing SQL statements

  I have a small application that reads XML files and inserts the information on a SQL DB. There are ~ 300 000 files to import, each one with ~ 1000 records. I started the application on 20% of the files and it has been running for 18 hours now, I hope I can improve this time for the rest of the files. I'm not using a multi-thread approach, but since the computer I'm running the process on has 4 cores I was thinking on doing it to get some improvement on the performance (although I guess the main problem is the I/O and not only the processing). I was thinking on using the BeginExecutingNonQuery() method on the SqlCommand object I create for each insertion, but I don't know if I should limit the max amount of simultaneous threads (nor I know how to do it). What's your advice to get the best CPU utilization? Thanks

• Approaches to a week long camp programming course (tips & projects)

  I will be teaching a week long programming course to kids between the ages of 11-18. Most of the kids have no programming experience. I'm looking for two things 1) General tips for teaching a camp class (how to make it fun when explaining the difference between int and float) 2) Interesting projects that the kids will be able to complete by the end of the week. Unfortunately the language I'll be required to use is either c++ or Java which means that I'll need to spend more time on itty bitty details than I'd like in a week long course. I feel more competent in c++ than in Java. However if someone can show me that Java is much easier to learn I'll probably teach that instead. My initial idea is to try something like "a game a day" with games like hangman, tic-tac-toe, guess-a-number, wheel-of-fortune, etc. I'll try and update the question text as answers come in to offer more details While there are other questions about teaching programming around I'm looking for advice and tasks that are useful for specifically a week long camp

I have tried to use the WebBrowser control to open the new tab as well as tried to use the Script manager however I have not been able to open the new tab.   hi i tried to invoke another activity from my main acitivty which is located in a jar file. Class clazz = Class.forName(getPackageName() + "." + getActivityName()); startActivity(new Intent(this, clazz)); Im doing it this way because i only know the name of the class. This works fine but unfortunately, all resource files can't be found while loading the activity from the jar file. at the first occurence of loading a res file there is a ResourceNotFoundException: 04-30 11:18:46.944: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1749): Caused by: android.content.res.Resources$NotFoundException: Resource ID #0x7f040006 any hints for that? thanks!

• Override decimal ToString() method

  I have a decimal datatype with a precision of (18, 8) in my database and even if its value is simply 14.765 it will still get displayed as 14.76500000 when I use Response.Write to return its value into a webpage. Is it possible to override its default ToString method to return the number in the format #,###,##0.######## so that it only displays relevant decimal places? UPDATE I'm assuming that when one outputs number on a page like <%= item.price %> (where item.price is a number) that the number's ToString method is being called? I'm trying to avoid having to change every instance where the value is displayed by defaulting the ToString() format somehow.
