• failing to establish connection between postgre db and gwt

  Hi, For i am using postgre and gwt 2.0 for one of my applications. I am facing problem connecting to the database. When i try to connect it gives "ClassNotFoundException". On AWS do I need to modify my security to group to allow access to those ports? How do I ensure nginx is taking full advantage of this configuration?

• Why do people tell me not to use VLANs for security?

  Hi Everyone, As per title, why do people tell me not to use VLANs for security purposes? I have a network, where a have a couple of VLANS. There is a firewall between the 2 VLANs. I am using HP Procurve switches and have made sure that switch-to-switch links accept tagged frames only and that host ports don't accept tagged frames (They are not "VLAN Aware"). I've also made sure that the native VLAN (PVID) of the trunk links are not the same as either of the 2 host VLANs. I've also enabled "Ingress Filtering". Furthermore, I've made sure that host ports are only members of a single VLAN, which is the same as the PVID of the respective port. The only ports which are members of multiple VLANs are the trunk ports. Can someone please explain to me why the above isn't secure? I believe I've addressed the double tagging issue.. Thanks

I know the CentOS yum repository is not always up-to-date. But in that case I am confused: SVN 1.6.x is not officially supported anymore. This means it does not get any security fixes! How can the official CentOS repository provide such an old (and dangerous) version? Is there something we (or our admin) understood the wrong way?

• iPhone SDK 3.2 UIGestureRecognizer interfering with UIView animations?

  Are there known issues with gesture recognizers and the UIView class methods for animation? I am having problems with a sequence of animations on a UIImageView from UIGestureRecognizer callback. If the sequence of animations is started from a standard callback like TouchUpInside, the animation works fine. If it is started via the UILongPressGestureRecognizer, then the first animation jumps to the end and the second animation immediately begins. Here's a sample that illustrates my problem. In the .xib for the project, I have a UIImageView that is connected to the viewToMove IBOutlet. I also have a UIButton connected to the startButton IBOutlet, and I have connected its TouchUpInside action to the startButtonClicked IBAction. The TouchUpInside action works as I want it to, but the longPressGestureRecognizer skips to the end of the first animation after about half a second.   I would like to be able to load several RIA entitysets in a single call without chaining/nesting several small LoadOperations together so that they load sequentially. I have several pages that have a number of comboboxes on them. These comboboxes are populated with static values from a database (for example status values). Right now I preload these values in my VM by one method that strings together a series of LoadOperations for each type that I want to load. For example: public void LoadEnums() { context.Load(context.GetMyStatusValues1Query()).Completed += (s, e) => { this.StatusValues1 = context.StatusValues1; context.Load(context.GetMyStatusValues2()).Completed += (s1, e1) => { this.StatusValues2 = context.StatusValues2; context.Load(context.GetMyStatusValues3Query()).Completed += (s2, e2) => { this.StatusValues3 = context.StatusValues3; (....and so on) }; }; }; }; While this works fine, it seems a bit nasty. Also, I would like to know when the last loadoperation completes so that I can load whatever entity I want to work on after this, so that these enumerated values resolve properly in form elements like comboboxes and listboxes. (I think) I can't do this easily above without creating a delegate and calling that on the completion of the last loadoperation. So my question is: does anyone out there know a better pattern to use, ideally where I can load all my static entitysets in a single LoadOperation?

  I'm overriding the drawRect: method in a custom UIView, and I'm doing some custom drawing. All was going well, until I needed to draw a PDF resource (a vector glyph, to be precise) into the context. First I retrieve the PDF from a file: NSURL *pdfURL = [NSURL fileURLWithPath:[[[NSBundle mainBundle] resourcePath] stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"CardKit.bundle/A.pdf"]]; CGPDFDocumentRef pdfDoc = CGPDFDocumentCreateWithURL((CFURLRef)pdfURL); CGPDFPageRef pdfPage = CGPDFDocumentGetPage(pdfDoc, 1); Then I create a box with the same dimensions as the loaded PDF: CGRect box = CGPDFPageGetBoxRect(pdfPage, kCGPDFArtBox); Then I save my graphics state, so that I don't screw anything up: CGContextSaveGState(context); And then I perform a scale+translate of the CTM, theoretically flipping the whole context: CGContextScaleCTM(context, 1.0, -1.0); CGContextTranslateCTM(context, 0.0, rect.size.height); I then scale the PDF so that it fits into the view properly: CGContextScaleCTM(context, rect.size.width/box.size.width, rect.size.height/box.size.height); And finally, I draw the PDF and restore the graphics state: CGContextDrawPDFPage(context, pdfPage); CGContextRestoreGState(context); The issue is that there is nothing visible drawn. All this code should theoretically draw the PDF glyph into the view, right? If I remove the scale+translate used to flip the context, it draws perfectly: it just draws upside-down. Any ideas?

  I'm learning about using Custom Views from the following: http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/ui/custom-components.html#modifying The description says: Class Initialization As always, the super is called first. Furthermore, this is not a default constructor, but a parameterized one. The EditText is created with these parameters when it is inflated from an XML layout file, thus, our constructor needs to both take them and pass them to the superclass constructor as well. Is there a better description? I've been trying to figure out what the constructor(s) should look like and I've come up with 4 possible choices (see example at end of post). I'm not sure what these 4 choices do (or don't do), why I should implement them, or what the parameters mean. Is there a description of these? Thanks.   This request is based upon the new Visual Studio 2013 integration of Asp.net Identity stuff. I have seen some of the posts regarding this question for MVC, but for the life of me cannot get it to work for standard Web Forms. What I'm trying to do is populate the AspNetUserClaims table from the claims that I get back from Facebook (or other service). I actually can see the values coming back in the OnAuthenticated below, but cannot for the life of me figure out how to add these claims to the context of the currently logged in user? There are literally hundreds of MVC examples surrounding this, but alas no Web Forms examples. This should be completely straightforward, but for some reason I cannot match up the context of the currently logged in user to the claims and credentials coming back from Facebook. Currently after the OnAuthenticated fires, it obviously returns me to the page (RegisterExternalLogin.aspx) as the built-in example provides. However, the claims are gone, the context of the login to Facebook is gone, and I can't do anything else at this point. I have several pages that have a number of comboboxes on them. These comboboxes are populated with static values from a database (for example status values). Right now I preload these values in my VM by one method that strings together a series of LoadOperations for each type that I want to load. For example: public void LoadEnums() { context.Load(context.GetMyStatusValues1Query()).Completed += (s, e) => { this.StatusValues1 = context.StatusValues1; context.Load(context.GetMyStatusValues2()).Completed += (s1, e1) => { this.StatusValues2 = context.StatusValues2; context.Load(context.GetMyStatusValues3Query()).Completed += (s2, e2) => { this.StatusValues3 = context.StatusValues3; (....and so on) }; }; }; }; While this works fine, it seems a bit nasty. Also, I would like to know when the last loadoperation completes so that I can load whatever entity I want to work on after this, so that these enumerated values resolve properly in form elements like comboboxes and listboxes. (I think) I can't do this easily above without creating a delegate and calling that on the completion of the last loadoperation. So my question is: does anyone out there know a better pattern to use, ideally where I can load all my static entitysets in a single LoadOperation?

• Problem with GWT behind a reverse proxy - either nginx or apache

  I'm having this problem with GWT when it's behind a reverse proxy. The backend app is deployed within a context - let's call it /context. The GWT app works fine when I hit it directly: http://host:8080/context/ I can configure a reverse proxy in front it it. Here's my nginx example: upstream backend { server 127.0.0.1:8080; } ... location / { proxy_pass http://backend/context/; } But, when I run through the reverse proxy, GWT gets confused, saying: 2009-10-04 14:05:41.140:/:WARN: Login: ERROR: The serialization policy file '/C7F5ECA5E3C10B453290DE47D3BE0F0E.gwt.rpc' was not found; did you forget to include it in this deployment? 2009-10-04 14:05:41.140:/:WARN: Login: WARNING: Failed to get the SerializationPolicy 'C7F5ECA5E3C10B453290DE47D3BE0F0E' for module 'https://hostname:444/'; a legacy, 1.3.3 compatible, serialization policy will be used. In other words, GWT isn't getting the word that it needs to prepend /context/ hen look for C7F5ECA5E3C10B453290DE47D3BE0F0E.gwt.rpc, but only when the request comes throught proxy. A workaround is to add the context to the url for the web site: location /context/ { proxy_pass http://backend/context/; } but that means the context is now part of the url that the user sees, and that's ugly. Anybody know how to make GWT happy in this case? Software versions: GWT - 1.7.0 (same problem with 1.7.1) Jetty - 6.1.21 (but the same problem existed under tomcat) nginx - 0.7.62 (same problem under apache 2.x) I've looked at the traffic between the proxy and the backend using DonsProxy, but there's nothing noteworthy there.

• Can you have multiple clipping regions in an HTML Canvas?

  I have code that loads a bunch of images into hidden img elements and then a Javascript loop which places each image onto the canvas. However, I want to clip each image so that it is a circle when placed on the canvas.
