  I am trying to use JQuery to pull a binary file from a webserver, parse it in Javascript and display the contents. I can get the file ok and parse some of the file correctly. How ever I am running into trouble with one byte not coming out as expected. I am parsing the file a byte at a time, it is correct until I get to the hex value B6 where I am getting FD instead of B6. Function to read a byte data.charCodeAt(0) & 0xff; File As Hex: 02 00 00 00 55 4C 04 00 B6 00 00 00 The format I want to parse the file out into. short: 0002 short: 0000 string: UL short: 0004 long: 0000B6 Any hints as to why the last value is incorrect?

• Create an automatic date stamp in excel from an entry.

  I am trying to have a date stamp event happen in column B when an entry is made in column A. Now i can do this in VBA with no problem, the trouble i am running into is there is also a entry that will eventually go in say column D and would need a date stamp in column E as well. is this possible. here is a sample of the code i have used so far.   I am having trouble with an assertQuery(). In the html I have (verified by outputting the body) <input type="text" name="LASTNAME" id="LASTNAME" value="" maxlength="25" size="20" /> So I wrote a query for it to test to make sure this element exists and that the value is empty $this->assertQuery('input#LASTNAME[value=""]', 1); PhpUnit says the assertion fails Failed asserting node DENOTED BY input#LASTNAME[value=""] EXISTS Can you give me some insight into why this assertion fails and how to write it properly?   I'm having trouble with inserting a value into a database through node.js. Here is the offending code: sql.query(conn_str ,"INSERT INTO Login(email, hash, salt, firstName, lastName) VALUES(?, ?, ?, ?, ?); SELECT SCOPE_IDENTITY() AS 'Identity';" , [email, hash, salt, firstName, lastName], function(err, results){ console.log(results) } Unfortunately, the console is just echoing [], meaning results is an empty array, I suppose. Does anyone know why the identity is not being returned? Even if it was null, why isn't results then [{Identity: null }] ? Database is on Azure, which does have a "Scope_Identity" function, and the native client also recognises this function. Using node package "msnodesql" Please Help

  Hi, I'm trying to implement Membership controls in a mvc 2 application and i'm having trouble dealing with the MembershipUser class. I have my own data store (in Postgresql) and I'm using Nhibernate to deal with it from C#. The thing is, I have my own user class, but I can't use it with any provider I found that implements Membership, because all the functions return the predefined MembershipUser class and cannot return my own. I'm losing my mind here, is there any way i can work with this, or should I implement everything myself? thanks in advance!

• Maven: Multiple class with the same path implemented in different jar

  I'm running into trouble with having multiple class with the same path (i.e. same name, same package!!!). For some reason, gwt-dev comes with its own version of org.apache.xerces.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl and javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory. At the same time, spring also depends on these classes but from different jar. I don't know what should be, but look like xalan & xml-api are the two dependencies that spring depends on (these dependency are optional) Funny thing is that eclipse can run the same code (it's a unit test) without problem, but surefire cannot. So I guess the problem is due to the way each runner consider the priority of each jar. Now come to the question: How can I setup my POM so that I can sure that when ever any code running inside my app, then class from a jar will be selected over class from other jar? Thanks.

I first thought that the code was wrong, so i change the info to my gmail account and everything goes fine, with the only SMTP server that i having trouble is with the CMail.   Hi, I'm starting a new project. It will run on devices running Windows CE, Windows Mobile 6 and will also have a desktop version. The software will connect to some equipments through the serial port, using it's own protocol. Basically it will: connect to the equipment send and receive info read and write binary files These tasks will be shared between desktop and mobile devices. I've been searching the information I need, but I still have some doubts: If I target Windows CE devices it will work with Windows Mobile 6 too? Creating a class library targeting Windows CE will give me any trouble on using it in the desktop version? (when I add a reference to that class library, my VS says that I could experience some unexpected results) Is it possible to install .NET CF 3.5 on devices running Windows CE 4.2? Thanks!

How do i call this method and pass in the values?

  Generally don't do OO-programming in Python. This project requires it and am running into a bit of trouble. I've attempted to add the @staticmethod tag to the "output" and "f1" functions but to no avail. So how do I get this going in a class?

• Floating point equality and tolerances

  Comparing two floating point number by something like a_float == b_float is looking for trouble since a_float / 3.0 * 3.0 might not be equal to a_float due to round off error. What one normally does is something like fabs(a_float - b_float) < tol. How does one calculate tol? Ideally tolerance should be just larger than the value of one or two of the least significant figures. So if the single precision floating point number is use tol = 10E-6 should be about right. However this does not work well for the general case where a_float might be very small or might be very large. How does one calculate tol correctly for all general cases? I am interested in C or C++ cases specifically.

  I found an updated version of John Gruber's regex for url matching in this post by user GianPac, which states it's been adapted to recognize url without protocol or the www part: (?i)\b((?:[a-z][\w-]+:(?:/{1,3}|[a-z0-9%])|www\d{0,3}[.]|[a-z0-9.-]+[.][a-z]{2,4}/?)(?:[^\s()<]+|(([^\s()<]+|(([^\s()<]+)))))(?:(([^\s()<]+|(([^\s()<]+))))|[^\s`!()[]{};:'\".,<?«»“”‘’])) Whilst this works in most cases, I found it does not match "google.com". It does match "google.comm" and "google.co.uk", so this must be a small oversight. The trouble is, I literally hate regex. It's the bane of my life. I just want to try and tweak this one more time to allow for "google.com" - can anyone throw me a pointer? I (think) it's something to do with this part of the code: +[.][a-z]{2,4}/?) ?

It implies you cannot have multiple conditions unless you use the tag, but there are no examples of how to use it. Consequently I nested two tags, however I feel silly doing this when I know there is a better way.   I'm having trouble finding a regular expression that matches the following String. Korben;http://feeds.feedburner.com/KorbensBlog-UpgradeYourMind?format=xml;1 One problem is escaping the question mark. Java's pattern matcher doesn't seem to accept \? as a valid escape sequence but it also fails to work with the tester at myregexp.com. Here's what I have so far: ([a-zA-Z0-9])+;http://([a-zA-Z0-9./-]+);[0-9]+ Any suggestions? Edit: The original intent was to match all URLs that could be found after the first semi colon.

• Canonicalizing XML in Ruby

  I'm working on a SAML gateway using Ruby/Rails and I'm attempting to write some code that validates the xml digital signature of the incoming SAML response against the x509 cert of the originating service. My problem: the signature depends on a canonicalized version of the XML that is hashed and then signed and I'm having trouble finding a ruby lib/gem that will canonicalize XML per the spec. I found a super old gem on rubyforge that is a mess but I'd be more interested if something like nokogiri supported this kind of functionality (from the nokogiri docs, it doesn't). I've googled extensively but thought I'd ask around here to see if anyone has any good insights before I go and try to write my own version or rework the existing c14n-r library.

  I'm having trouble using the Ribbon control from the Office 2007 RibbonControlsLibrary.dll. It works for most people but not for me. The fault I get is: Cannot create instance of 'Ribbon' defined in assembly 'RibbonControlsLibrary, Version=3.5.31016.1, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35'. Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation The problem is probably not with the code since it works for other people. Its the Ribbon class thats causing the problem. If I remove any references to the Ribbon class but keep the references to RibbonWindow I don't get any exceptions. Any help appreciated

• Should my internal API classes be all in one package?

  I'm hard at work packaging up an API for public consumption. As such I'm trying to limit the methods that are exposed to only those that I wish to be public and supportable. Underneath this of course there are a multitude of limited access methods. The trouble is that I have a lot of internal code that needs to access these restricted methods without making those methods public. This creates two issues: I can't create interfaces to communicate between classes as this would make these my internal methods public. I can't access protected or default methods unless I put the majority of my internal classes in the same package. So, I have around 70 or 80 internal classes in cleanly segregated packages BUT with overly permissive access modifiers. Would you say that a single package is the lesser of two evils or is there a better way to be able to mask my internal methods whilst keeping more granular packages? I'd be interested to find out the best practice here. I'm already aware of This

• Evenly distribute items on the screen

  I am trying to solve this little puzzle (the algorithm): I have N image icons and I want to distribute them evenly on users screen. Say, I put them in a table. If there is one image, there will be one cell in a table. If two - one row with two columns, if three - one row and three columns, if four - two rows, two columns... and so on until row space is gone and since then the table should only grow in columns without adding extra rows. I'm trying to figure an algorithm for this and perhaps this is something that has a solution already somewhere? My attempt is so far something like this: obtain_max_rows() obtain_visible_columns() if (number_of_pictures > max_rows*max_columns) { columns = roundup(number_of_pictures/max_rows) for(max_rows){generate row;for columns{generate column}} } else { **here comes to trouble...** } This logic is bit silly though - it somehow needs to think cases where there are 12 pictures on first screen and 2 on the other trying to balance it say 8/6 or somehow like that.

  Hello, we are converting from sharepoint 2003 to sharepoint on line. I am having trouble reproducing a specific behavior in the online version. If a choose a list, I get a "select a view" navigation on the left hand side of the page showing the available views. When a new view is created, it automatically appears on this navigation list. In the online sharepoint, instead there is a view dropdown. I know I can manually setup links on the quick launch but I'm looking for an automatic way to do this. Can the online sharepoint be set up so that when views are added they automatically appear as left-hand links? Or can the "views" dropdown be moved to the left side which would be an acceptable work around? Please note I am unfamiliar with SP designer and I do work with .NET but I dont want to go that route just for this issue - thanks.

• Getters and Setters: Code smell, Necessary Evil, or Can't Live Without Them [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Allen Holub wrote “You should never use get/set functions”, is he correct? Is there a good, no, a very good reason, to go through all the trouble of using getters and setters for object-oriented languages? What's wrong with just using a direct reference to a property or method? Is there some kind of "semantical coverup" that people don't want to talk about in polite company? Was I just too tired and fell asleep when someone walked out and said "Thou Shalt Write Copious Amounts of Code to Obtain Getters and Setters"? Follow-up after a year: It seems to be a common occurrence with Java, less so with Python. I'm beginning to wonder if this is more of a cultural phenomena (related to the limitations of the language) rather than "sage advice". The -1 question score is complete for-the-lulz as far as I am concerned. It's interesting that there are specific questions that are downvoted, not because they are "bad questions", but rather, because they hit someone's raw nerve.
