  • Is Tomcat Shared Session / Cluster between two machine possible?

    I have a setup of several Tomcat servers distributed between a few servers, all running the same thing. Apache is on top of Apache and a loadbalancer in front of the Apache servers. I want to cluster the Tomcats using Shared Session to minimize downtime and user interruption while deploying apps. I know clustering works within the same server but is it possible to setup Tomcat in a way that it shares sessions between servers on different machines? => Server 1 ==> Apache 1 ===> Tomcat 1 => Server 2 ==> Apache 2 ===> Tomcat 2 When Server/Tomcat 1 would be taken down, users and their sessions would transfer over to Server/Tomcat 2 and vice versa.

  • apache2 is making my amazon ec2 unavailable, any ideas?

    I have a web server running on a EC2 c1.medium intance. The instance is running on ubuntu, with apache2 and mysql.The ubuntu and apache version are the next; Ubuntu DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu DISTRIB_RELEASE=11.04 DISTRIB_CODENAME=natty DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 11.04" Apache2 Server version: Apache/2.2.17 (Ubuntu) Server built: Feb 22 2011 18:33:02 Sometimes randomly, my server "hangs up", I cannot connect to it using normal web access or ssh access. If I reboot the instance it reboots fine, the amazon system log doesn't show anything weird, but the problem persists The only way to solve it its stopping the instance, and start it again.   • How to add LDAP user to existing local group in RHEL?

    I'm attempting to add some of our LDAP users to a locally defined group on our RHEL server, however I get an error stating that the LDAP user is not found in /etc/passwd. What would be the best way to allow LDAP users to be added to local groups? My feeling is that this must be done manually. I could edit: /etc/group and add the LDAP group to the list. Would that be ideal?     Google's PageSpeed plugin suggests that a website should include Last-Modified and ETag headers: Specify a cache validator "Resources that do not specify a cache validator cannot be refreshed efficiently. Specify a Last-Modified or ETag header to enable cache validation" However, Apache suggests that by not including them at all, we speed up websites by eliminating If-Modified-Since and If-None-Match requests: http://www.askapache.com/htaccess/apache-speed-last-modified.html these are in direct opposition - which should be implemented? I'm leaning towards Apache's suggestion, as when I want a file cached, I don't want it refreshed.

  • How to prevent mod_cluster as single point failure?

    In my configuration i used Apche+mod_cluster as a front_end(load balancer) server and two JBOSS AS 7.1.0 as backend server. In my configuration on one system i have install Apache+mod_cluster + JBOSS AS 7.1.0 and on other system JBOSS AS 7.1.0. Both JBOSS AS 7.1.0 are in domain mode means in clustering. My problem is that if Apche+mod_cluster crash than client can not access any JBOSS AS . I want to configure Apache+mod_cluster in Master_Slave format, means if one of Apache+mod_cluter down another Apache+mod_cluster become active and pass client(browser) request to back-end server in normal form without any interruption. Is there any way to make two Apache+mod_cluster to communicate with each other , means to check health status of each other and if any one get down other Apche+mod_cluster will do it's task ......

  • vsftpd, virtual users and permissions. Avoid using chmod 777?

    I am running vsftpd with Virtual Users (managed through a MySQL db). Each users home/default directory is owned by vsftpd:vsftpd. I need to give a user read/write permissions to some website files, owned by apache:apache so they can make some changes. I did a bind mount for the web directory to a directory in the ftp user's home/default directory. When logging in, the user is not able to write to the web folder, unless I set files to 777. Is it possible to set this up with making the directory and it's files 777? The web directory needs to be apache:apache in order for apache to work with it.

  • MapReduce job is hung after 1 of 5 reducers completed on single-node environment

    I have only one Data Node on my dev environment on EC2. I ran heavy MR job and in 6 hours noticed that 100% of mappers and 20% of reducers finished (1 of reducer shows 100% competition, other ones - 0%). Looks like job is hung between 2 reducer runs. I don't see any errors in log files. What it can be? P.S.     (On Mac OS X 10.6, Apache 2.2.11) Following the oft-repeated googled advice, I've set up mod_proxy on my Mac to act as a forward proxy for http requests. My httpd.conf contains this: <IfModule mod_proxy> ProxyRequests On ProxyVia On <Proxy *> Allow from all </Proxy> (Yes, I realize that's not ideal, but I'm behind a firewall trying to figure out why the thing doesn't work at all) So, when I point my browser's proxy settings to the local server (ip_address:80), here's what happens: I browse to http://www.cnn.com I see via sniffer that this is sent to Apache on the Mac Apache responds with its default home page ("It works!" is all this page says) So... Apache is not doing as expected -- it is not forwarding my browser's request out onto the Internet to cnn. Nothing in the logfile indicates an error or problem, and Apache returns a 200 header to the browser. Clearly there is some very basic configuration step I'm not understanding... but what?

    I've written an extension to RequestTracker for a client, but he says the performance isn't good enough. I'd like to do some profiling, but I'm not sure how to connect up a profiler (say NYTProf, for example)? I tried what the man page says and put PerlModule Devel::NYTProf::Apache in my apache config, but all I get in the results are Apache2:XSLoader, Devel::NYTProf::Apache and ModPerl::Util modules in the results, and neither my own nor RT's modules.

    I'm thinking of upgrading my server soft along with OS. As of now, my VPS is running on Debian 6 with nginx (1.2.4) - apache (2.2.16). My VPS specs are 1Gb RAM, 2 cores of Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5520 @ 2.27GHz. Now, here is the question. Which combo should I run? - nginx - apache (2.4.x) - PHP-fpm 5.5.x - nginx - apache (2.4.x) - mod_php 5.5.x - apache (2.4.x) - mod_php 5.5.x - apache (2.4.x) - PHP-fpm 5.5.x - nginx - PHP-fpm 5.5.x - nginx - mod_php 5.5.x I would really like some advice/opinion of people who are more experienced than me with these things. It's nothing big. Around 100-200k pageviews per month. I can also provide some screenshots of munin stats if needed.

  • How do I run a command as a different user from a root cronjob?

    I seem to be stuck between an NFS limitation and a Cron limitation. So I've got root cron (on RHEL5) running a shell script that, among other things, needs to rsync some files over an NFS mount. And the files on the NFS mount are owned by the apache user with mode 700, so only the apache user can run the rsync command -- running as root yields a permission error (NFS being a rare case, apparently, where the root user is not all-powerful?) When I just want to run the rsync by hand, I can use "sudo -u apache rsync ..." But sudo no workie in cron -- it says "sudo: sorry, you must have a tty to run sudo". I don't want to run the whole script as apache (i.e. from apache's crontab) because other parts of the script do require root -- it's just that one command that needs to run as apache. And I would really prefer not to change the mode on the files, as that will involve significant changes to other applications. There's gotta be a way to accomplish "sudo -u apache" from cron?? thanks! rob

    I'm having a trouble to get Geolocation working on Android in both emulator (even when I geo fix over telnet) and on device. Works on iOS, WP8 and in the browser. When I ask device for location using the following code, I always get an error (in my case custom Retrieving your position failed for unknown reason. with null both error code and error message). What just happened here??? Heartbeat on node04 stopped and told node03, which was the active node at the time. Somehow, node03 decided to start the cluster processes that were already running. (For the processes that are not critical, I always return a 0 from the startupscript so it does not stops the entire cluster when a non-essential part fails.) When starting ActiveMQ, it returns status 1 because it is already running. This fails the node and shuts everything down. As heartbeat is not running on the secondary node, it cannot failover to there. When I tried to run ha_takeover to restart the resources, absolutely nothing happened. Only after I restarted heartbeat on the primary node the resources could be started (after a delay of 2 minutes). These are my questions: Why does heartbeat on the primary node try to start the cluster processes again? Why did ha_takeover not work? What can I do to prevent this from happening?
