• Not-quite-JSON string deserialization in Python

  I get the following text as a string from an XML-based REST API 'd':4 'ca':5 'sen':1 'diann':2,6,8 'feinstein':3,7,9 that I'm looking to deserialize into a pretty little Python dictionary: { 'd': [4], 'ca': [5], 'sen': [1], 'diann': [2, 6, 8], 'feinstein': [3, 7, 9] } I'm hoping to avoid using regular expressions or heavy string manipulation, as this format isn't documented and may change. The best I've been able to come up with: members = {} for m in elem.text.split(' '): m = m.split(':') members[m[0].replace("'", '')] = map(int, m[1].split(',')) return members Obviously a terrible approach, but it works, and that's better than anything else I've got right now. Any suggestions on better approaches?

• Graphics.RotateTransform works on localhost, but not on remote server

  It works on my machine... I'm combining two map pins into a single image. I load an empty pin image and write a number on top of it. I then combine two of these, having rotated one 15 degrees and the other -15 degrees. It looks fine running through my localhost web server: I upload this to my shared server, and I get this instead: I load the image thus: var g = Graphics.FromImage(image); The line to rotate the image is: g.RotateTransform(angle); I'm sure this must be a setting somewhere, but I've had no luck finding it.

I don't get a js error in ie so I am assuming it just doesn't get binded. any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Mouse configurable buttons for programming

  Different mouse models has been already discussed. But all these mouse got configurable buttons. Has a programmer, how do you set them? I use The Microsoft Intellimouse Optical. So set the Left side button to "Copy" and the Right side button to "Paste". I did not set the Wheel click to anything. I'm curious to see if there is any better setup? UPDATE : I'm trying to find some interesting key I could map to my mouse buttons. Copy & paste are the best I' found so far, but i just want to know if there is something that could be more useful when programming.

  I am trying to send special characters like spanish chars from my page to a JSP page as a form parameter. When I try get the parameter which I sent, it shows that as "?" (Question mark). • MOSS Faceted Search 3.0

  Hi, Has anyone installed Faceted Search v3.0 for MOSS working with date columns? When I map a column of DateTime type and click the Search BreadCrumb webpart "remove filter" link (next to the edit filter link) an exception is thrown. The search Breadcrumb webpart throws an error when I click the "Remove filter" link (this is the one represented by the broken link icon - next to the "Edit facet" icon). This seems to only occur after clicking the "Remove filter" link for Facets of DateTime type after which it occurs on every instance for all Facets. According to the book NHibernate in Action, on page 187: Collections of components are mapped similarily to other collections of value type instances. The only difference is the use of <composite-element> in place of the familiar <element> tag. How would I do this using Castle ActiveRecord attributes?

• rails routes for permalink with namespaced class

  this one in my routes works perfectly: map.connect ':permalink', :controller = 'pages', :action = 'show' for this class: class PagesController < BackendController and on /xxx/pages it is shown like this: <%= link_to "#{item.link_name}", {:controller = :pages, :action = :show, :permalink = item.permalink} % which will generate a link like "how-to-create-permalinks". but i decided to move the PagesController into a subdirectory so the class is now written like so: class Backend::PagesController < BackendController But how does the route look like now? And how do i display it on the template so it links using the permalink? Thanks!

• TreeMap randomly stops properly returning values

  I have the following TreeMap: TreeMap<String, Integer> distances = new TreeMap<String, Integer>(); and it contains both strings, "Face" and "Foo", with appropriate values, such that: System.out.println(distances); Yields: {Face=12, Foo=2} However, distances.get(Face) returns null, even though distances.get(Foo) properly returns 2. Previously, distances.get(Face) worked, but for some reason, it stopped working. Note I print out the map right before calling get() for both keys, so I haven't accidentally changed Face's value to null. Has anyone else ever encountered this problem? Is there anything I can do? I'm having a terrible time simply trying to figure out how to debug this problem.

• Storing links to internal content pages in ASP.NET MVC

  I'm using a route like this routes.MapRoute( "PageBySlug", RouteType.Regular, "{slug}", new {controller = "Page", action = "Display", slug = "Default"}, null ); to map request to ~/Some-Page-Slug to ~/Page/Display/Some-Page-Slug. When adding content, user can choose to link to existing pages to create references and I then store those links in this format in the datastore: "/Some-Page-Slug". When I run the app in Cassini and pull the link out from datastore and attach it to A tag it looks like this http://localhost:93229/Some-Page-Slug and this link works. But when running the application in virtual directory under some website in IIS, the attached link generates this URL http://localhost/Some-Page-Slug, when it should be http://localhost/virtualdir/Some-Page-Slug. Of course, this generates 404 error. How can I solve this to be universally useful and working under all circumstances? Should I store it differently in the database or should I transform it into correct form in my Views at runtime and how to do that?

• What are some techniques to create scrollable areas?

  I'm getting started with OpenGL ES on Android and I'd looking to learn some techniques to have a game map larger than the visible area. I'm assuming I've somehow got to ensure that the system isn't rendering the entire scene, including what's outside of the visible area. I'm just not sure how I'd go about designing this! This is for simple 2D top-down tile based rendering. No real 3D except what's inherent in OpenGL ES itself. Would anyone be able to get me started on the right path? Are there options that might scale nicely when I decide to start tilting my perspective and doing 3D?

This question (about a useful parallel programming algorithm) is more about the whole series of algorithms for parallel programming. You will have to excuse me though as I am quite new to parallel programming, so maybe MapReduce or something that is a more general form of mapreduce is the "only" parallel programming construct which is available, in which case I apologise for my ignorance

• NSAlert pops up for 3 times

  Hello community i have a big problem. i implemented an NSAlert in the viewDidLoad() of my app: UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:title message:alertMessage delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:ok otherButtonTitles:nil]; But the Alert pops up for 3 times, and then i can klick on it. Could it be that the viewDidLoad() starts for 3 times?   How do sprites work? I've seen sprites from old school games like Super Mario Brothers, and wondered how they're animated to make a game. They're always presented as one big image map, so how are they used? For Mario (as an example) are there precalculated image co-ordinates that outline mario, and are swapped between various mario sprites to produce animation? Or are sprites pre "cut" during game initialization using precalculated images co-ordinates and stored in memory somewhere? Obviously I know nothing about game development.

  I need to create a simple app which can display geometries from Oracle Spatial in C#. These geometries are exported from AutoCAD Map 3D 2010 to Oracle Spatial. I need to pan, zoom, manage layers of these objects, events (like right click to popup a contextual menu, potentially different for every object), creating/deleting points (maybe also other polygons): a sort of simple AutoCAD interface. For now I've found the ones in the Enumerable module: collect <- map detect <- find include <- member etc. Probably other modules contains synonymic methods too. Why are they there? Is it some kind of backward compatibility? Or is it a feature of the language, so the programmer can choose between different options depending on the context to make the program look like plain English?

  Hi folks, For my trading program, I have a Merchant class. A given Merchant object may or may not have a particular special quality or bundle of special qualities. For example, one Merchant object may have the Stockbroker quality, another Merchant may have the Financial Services and Stockbroker qualities, and another Merchant may have no special qualities at all. My initial thought was to create a HashMap and a Qualities class as follows: Map<Qualities, Boolean> merchantQualities = new HashMap<Qualities, Boolean>(); The only problem is, there are at least 50 possible special qualities for Merchants, such that it would be extremely tiresome to subclass all the qualities from the Quality class. Is there a better way of coding for these optional special qualities and representing them in the Merchants class than a HashMap and subclassing a Qualities class?

  I need infoWindow to be opened instead of zooming in map, when clicking on the ClusterMarker. I am using Gmaps util library MarkerClusterer for creating cluster of markers. I tried changing following line in markerclusterer.js ClusterMarker_.prototype = new GOverlay(); with ClusterMarker_.prototype = new GMarker(); so that I can get the openInfoWindow() function in the clustermarker, but that didnt worked out. Got some error. If possible, Please suggest solution so that this can be done with MarkerClusterer. Or else any other library which will be able to do this. Any help will be appreciated.

• Calculating co-ordinate of a point on a path given a distance

  I'm working on a project that surveys the condition of a road or highway using a calibrated trip computer connected to a rugged-PC. An operator keys in defect codes as they travel along a pre-defined route. I need to show an indicator on the map screen that shows the vehicles current position, taking into account the distance data from the trip computer. I know the exact lat lon co-ordinates at the starting point of each section of road, and the road is made up of a series of points. The question is: how can I calculate the lat lon co-ordinates of the vehicle assuming that it has continued on the route and traveled a certain distance (e.g. 1.4km). The co-ordinates would be 'locked onto' the road line, as shown in blue on the diagram below. Thanks, Alex

• Pros and cons of ways of storing an unsigned int without an unsigned int data type

  I have values that are 64-bit unsigned ints, and I need to store them in mongodb, which has no unsigned int type. I see three main possibilities for storing them in other field types, and converting on going in and out: Using a signed int is probably easiest and most space efficient, but has the disadvantage that they're not human readable and if someone forgets to do the conversion, some of them will work, which may obscure errors. Raw binary is probably most difficult for inexperienced programmers to deal with, and also suffers from non-human-readability. A string representation is the least space efficient (~40 bytes in unicode vs 8 bytes per field), but then at least all of the possible values will map properly, and for querying only a conversion to string is required instead of a more complicated conversion. I need these values to be available from different platforms, so a single driver-specific solution isn't an option. Any major pros and cons I've missed? Which one would you use?
