  • Best way to "clone" my Windows Server 2008 R2?

    - by A.B. User
I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 Machine with 1 physical hard drive. I have an exact copy of the hardware of it, which I intend to use a a redundant backup in case my server fails (hardware or software). I'd like to routinely "clone" my production server's hard drive, so that when it fails, I'll just swap it with the latest clone. Is this even possible? If it is, what would be the simplest way to do this?

  • Encrypt windows 8 file history

    - by SnippetSpace
File history is great but it saves your files on the external drive without any encryption and stores them using the exact same folder structure as the originals. If a bad guy gets his hands on the hard drive it could basically not be easier to get to your important files. Is there any way to encrypt the file history backup without breaking its functionality and without having to encrypt the original content itself? Thanks for your input!

  • Is there any way to change the VirtualBox "snapshot" folder for an existing virtual machine?

    - by Richard J Foster
I have a virtual machine which is currently using a folder on the C: drive to store its snapshots. I have copied the contents of the "Snapshots" folder to an alternate drive, but whenever I go into the General / Advanced settings section for that virtual machine and change the snapshot folder to the new location it resets back to the original location. What do I need to do to get VirtualBox to recognize the new location for the snapshot files?

  • Photoshop JSX script- CLOSE PHOTOSHOP!

    - by Geekay2
How do I close photoshop using its javascript scripting language. (I am automaticly scripting a great deal of things, and I notice that for one reason or another, some of the ram is not releasing with each new task. My hopes are that after X ammount of operations, I will fully close photoshop, to free up the ram.. which it is eating up all of my 8 gigs, and after which then opens photoshop help and causes a huge failure (actually, to be honest it fills up my hard drive with junk till I get a "hard drive is full" message... (I think it is dumping the ram into virtual ram on my hard drive?)... what a mess)THANKS!!

  • Help make sense of a KillDisk error/log

    - by user284194
I have a hard drive that I've been trying to reformat. I tried reformatting it in the windows XP and 7 installers, and in an Ubuntu live cd with gparted. I tried using dd to 'zero' the drive as well with no success. Finally I ran across KillDisk after a search. I tried to zero the disk again with KillDisk and after 8 hours of zeroing I get the following errors in the log: ----------------------------------------Erase Session Begin--------------------------------------- 2010-03-23 19:35:54 Active@ KILLDISK for Windows Build 5.1.39 started Target: WDC WD2500KS-00MJB0 232.9 GB Located on: WDC WD2500KS-00MJB0 (Serial number: WD-WCANK9604799) Erase method: One Pass Zeros (1 pass) Passes: 1 Bad (unwritable) sectors detected from 1701 to 488397167 on Hard Disk 1. • SCSI Windows Setup on Dell Precision 670 Workstation...please help.

    - by sweetcoder
Error Windows Setup: "setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer" This is not exactly a programming question but I thought you guys might be able to help. I just received a Dell Precision 670 workstation. Windows is not recognizing the hard drive and I have experienced this before with other computers. I usually would just go in the bios and set the configuration to compatibility mode. I have no idea how to do this on this machine. There is this Adaptec SCSI HostRaid BIOS v4.30.4S5 screen on startup. It says to press CTRL A for SCSI select utility. It shows a Maxtor ATLAS10K5_73WLS for the drive. I was wondering if anyone out there knew how to configure this thing so that windows setup will recognize the hard drive? Any advice is very much appreciated and if you have to know further information please let me know. Raid was turned off in the BIOS for this device. TY

  • Howto UML: sub methods / calls / operations / procedures

    - by hsmit
    How would you guys model this in UML (in a sequence diagram)? .. car1.drive(); .. ... in Car class: .. drive(){ this.startEngine(); } startEngine(){ this.getKey(); this.insertKey(); } .. a small begin: objx car1 ---- ---- | | | drive() | |-------->| startEngine() | |------------. | | | | |<-----------. | | But where comes the getKey() method? Must this be communicated via another sequence diagram? Or is there a way to include sub procedures?

  • Using regular expressions to do mass replace in Notepad++

    - by user638820
I've been trying to replace (and translate) this text, and i don't know what formula I should Use for thousands of places that I need to translate to Spanish. OKay this is what i want to do, i want to use regular expressions on Notepadd++. • MS Access 2003 - Help understanding the structure of mdb, mde and be.....

    - by Justin
Hi. I was just wanting some explanation as to what is going on once you have split your tables out into a back end file, and set an mde out for use. When a user accesses the mde, is the mdb still required to get to the tabes (or in order to make it work)? Let say I put these access apps on a shared drive for folks to use. If I split the be end on to the shared drive, and placed the mde on the shared drive, would I the mdb have to exist for that version mde to work (communicate with the tables)? Or does the mde sort of speak to the mdb which speaks to the tables? Hope this question makes sense. Thanks

  • SSD and programming

    - by Simon Johnson
I'm trying to put together a business case for getting every developer in our company an Intel SSD drive. The main codebase contains roughly 400,000 lines of code. My theory is that since the code is scattered about in maybe 1500 files, an SSD drive would be substantially faster for compiles. The logic being that many small reads really punishes the seak-time bottle-neck of a traditional hard-drive. Am I right? Is SSD worth the money in productivity gains by reducing the edit/compile cycle time?

  • sql exception when transferring project from usb to c:\

    - by jello
I'm working on a C# windows program with Visual Studio 2008. Usually, I work from school, directly on my usb drive. But when I copy the folder on my hard drive at home, an sql exception is unhandled whenever I try to write to the database. it is unhandled at the conn.Open(); line. here's the exception unhandled Database 'L:\system\project\the_project\the_project\bin\Debug\PatientMonitoringDatabase.mdf' already exists. Choose a different database name. Cannot attach the file 'C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\system\project\the_project\the_project\bin\Debug\PatientMonitoringDatabase.mdf' as database 'PatientMonitoringDatabase'. it's weird, because my connection string says |DataDirectory|, so it should work on any drive... here's my connection string: string connStr = "Data Source=.\\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|\\PatientMonitoringDatabase.mdf; " + "Initial Catalog=PatientMonitoringDatabase; " + "Integrated Security=True"; what's going on here?

  • Groovy 1.7 changes "final"?

    - by Aaron L. Carlow
Just started learning Groovy, got the PragProg book "Programming Groovy" and had a problem compiling one of the sample scripts: class GCar2 { final miles = 0 def getMiles() { println "getMiles called" miles } def drive(dist) { if (dist > 0) { miles += dist } } } def car = new GCar2() println "Miles: $car.miles" println 'Driving' car.drive(10) println "Miles: $car.miles" try { print 'Can I see the miles? ' car.miles = 12 } catch (groovy.lang.ReadOnlyPropertyException ex) { println ex.message GroovyCar2.groovy: 20: cannnot access final field or property outside of constructor. @ line 20, column 35. def drive(dist) { if (dist > 0) miles += dist } ^ Groovy versions prior to 1.7 do not give an error. I looked through whatever documentation I could find and did not see the issue discussed. What is going on here? Aaron

  • mysql - how do I load data from a different configuration...

    - by Ronedog
I'm not sure if this will make sense, but I'll give it a shot. My hard drive went down and I had to reinstall the os along with all my webserver configuration, etc. I kept a backup of the mysql database, but it doesn't contain all the tables...I added a couple tables after my last backup. I have access to the hard drive and the directory where the mysql data files are stored from the failed hard drive, but I don't know how to retrieve the data into my new mysql database. Is it even possible to get the raw data files from mysql and load them into a different instance? I'd even be happy if there was some way for phpmyadmin to show the data files, then I could dump out to a backup txt file, and reload them into my new configuration. Any help will be appreciated. thanks.

  • Desktop PC Raid 5 or JBOD?

    - by Sean Lim
I have a desktop PC and I want to get alot of space for movies, music, and pictures. I probably will not be deleting files. I am running Windows 7 on my system. It is kind of silly I just want the physical drives to be labeled as a single letter drive. And probably map my video, documents, pictures and music on that single drive. The main reason I considered RAID 5 because I would be lazy to get the data I lost and hopefully that if I get a new drive, it would rebuild it. So my question is which would be better? A second question is can I get RAID card that has only 2 internal connectors and still do RAID 5? or do I have to get a RAID card that has 4 internal connectors.

The path is D:\Myproject\myfolder\mypoints.bmp. Now, in my program, whereever I need mypoints.bmp I have hardcoded the whole path. When my project is copied in to a different system under C drive, I am not able to run my project because of the hardcoded path. How can I give the path so that there will not be any problem even if it is loaded in to a different system under a different drive.

  • Finding files with bash and copy to another location and reducing depth of folders

    - by Kevin F
I'm trying to recover a mates hard drive, there is no structure what so ever so music and images are everywhere but in named folders sometimes 5 folders deep, I've managed to write a one-liner that finds the files and copies them to a mounted drive but it preserves the file structure completely. What I'm after is a bit of code that searches the drive and copies to another location and copies just the parent folder with the mp3/jpg files within and not the complete path. The other issue I have is the music is /folder/folder/folder/Artist/1.mp3..2.mp3..10.mp3 etc etc so I have to preserve the folder 'Artist' to give him any hope of finding his tracks again. What I have working currently: find /media/HP/ -name *.mp3 -fprintf /media/HP/MUSIC/Script.sh 'mkdir -p "/media/HP/MUSIC/%h" \n cp "%h/%f" "/media/HP/MUSIC/%h/"\n' I then run the script.sh and it does all the copying. Many Thanks

  • How do I mount a virtual filesystem in a folder?

    - by chacham15
I implemented a virtual filesystem using Dokan. I tried to set the drive letter to C but it errors every time. I was wondering if there is a different virtual filesystem which will allow me to do that or if there is a way of fixing it. Is there some windows api call which will allow me to remount the filesystem in a folder? Thanks!!! EDIT: The windows manager does not list the virtual drive, so I cannot mount it through the usual Windows interface. Also, I tried to change the drive name through the property interface and it wouldnt let me do that either.

  • error 1202 - ERROR_DEVICE_ALREADY_REMEMBERED in WNetAddConnection2A

    - by Don
I used the function - WNetAddConnection2A(n, UserName, Password, dwFlags) to programmatically map a drive and read the drive info out, and then used WNetCancelConnection2A(DriveLetter, dwFlags, ForceDisconnect) to unmap the drive. The first map and unmap were fine. But the next map will bring me the error 1202 - ERROR_DEVICE_ALREADY_REMEMBERED when the same driver letter is used. I set dwFlags = 0. It works in my development machine but fails in server. How to eliminate the error 1202? Thanks!

  • Why doesn't the Ubuntu Installer see all of my hard drives

    - by atodd
I'm trying to setup a dual boot system with Windows Vista 64 (already installed) and Ubuntu 10.10. I added a new drive which is identical to the one Vista is installed on. When I boot into the LiveCD I can see and mount the second drive and edit it in Gparted. However, when I use the installer it will only bring up the drive that already has Vista installed. I've tried everything I know. I'm not sure if its a BIOS setting or something else I've missed.
