How can I make sharepoint use a small URL (e.g. http://internal.com instead of http://internal.com/sites/osfc/Pages/Default.aspx)

Hi all, I'm new to sharepoint 2007, currently the home page is htp://internal.com/sites/osfc/Pages/Default.aspx but I would like to use htp://internal.com or have htp://internal.com redirect to the long URL. How can I do this? I thought of using a 301 redirect but the permissions on the site in IIS don't allow users to view files placed in the root and I don't want to mess with the permissions. Currently if I visit http://internal.com I see a sharepouint Access Denied page (htp://internal.com/_layouts/AccessDenied.aspx?Source=%2f). Note: I've used htp:// above as serverfault doesn't allow more than 1 https:// link. Many thanks Steven

installing NUMPY for Mac OSX 10.7. (Lion) for use with Python

I Need to use nltk and numpy with Python. I am a newbie to Python and initially used the python 2.7.3 that came with my mac (currently running OSX 10.7.5). I learned that the apple version of python may not be robust so I downloaded the standard version from python.org. I have downloaded the nltk program for Mac OSX 10.7. This seemed to install fine. I am trying to download and install numpy using the instructions from the scipy website. http://www.scipy.org/Installing_SciPy/Mac_OS_X. I cloned numpy from github but when I tried to build it using the following command $ python setup.py build I received the following error MacOS/Python: can't open file 'setup.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory I also tried to build it using the scons command $ python setupscons.py scons --jobs=2 and received the following error /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/Resources/Python.app/Contents/MacOS/Python: can't open file 'setupscons.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory Can anyone think of a possible workaround?

Laptops and Visual Studio 2010

I have three days to get a new laptop before I need one that can run Visual Studio 2010. Normally I have two instances open, an instance of SQL Management studio, IIS, and a few web browsers. Who develops regularly on one, what are the specs I should look at targeting? I haven't bought a laptop in 5 years, so I'm way out of touch with where they are at as far as specs go. Thanks. ps. Budget isn't a huge concern, but I'm trying to keep it reasonable.

assume i have a domain name which will be forwarded to my public ip (web server) automatically. in IIS 6, ip is public ip port is 6666, advanced - host value is www.hello.com firewall is open for 6666(web server port) and 53(DNS port), DMZ of router is my physical address in DNS, i have already had a zone called oldhello.com. And i expect a new domain name. So i have addded a new zone called hello.com and checked SOA server (P) is one.hello.local. then added a new host called one, full name is one.hello.com, ip address 192.168.7.3(my address in router) and then add a alias(CNAME) www, full name is www.hello.com, FQDN i choose the host i added before (one.hello.com) i expected that when i type the public ip in browser, can it be changed to domain name automatically. if not set host value www.hello.com, use public ip i can see the web however, after set up host value www.hello.com, browser show bad request invalid hostname

iPhone - a question about @property

Hi, I am kind of newbie on Objective-C and I was looking at a code, trying to understand a few things, and I come across with this .h file: there was a declaration like that on the @interface section MyVideoClass *contrast_; then below we have @property (nonatomic, retain) MyVideoClass *contrast; @property (nonatomic, retain) FetchClass *fetchMe; The strange part is that the first has an underscrore after the name and the second one, doesn't. The other strange thing is that the guy has a call to these properties like this: FetchClass *fetchOne = [self.fetchMe contrast]; What kind of call is that? This seems pretty insane to me. I simply cannot understand what is going on here, but the code works. pretty insane. Can you guys explain me that? Forgive the stupid question, but I am still learning... thanks

IIS7.5 is only resolving to the Default Web Site

I am able to access only the Default Web Site on a Windows 2008 R2 Server which is running IIS 7.5 The Default Web Site's binding is to "All Unassigned", same way as I have done it on a different machine running IIS6 under Windows 2003 Server. The bindings of the desired Web Site have the IP address of the server and the correct home directory. Regardless what I do, the only page content I can see is the default index page in the wwwroot directory which is the Default Web Site. What must I do to deliver the correct content from the Web Sites that are configured in IIS7.5?

Why does java have an interpreter? and not a compiler?

Iam a newbie to java and was wondering why java have a interpreter and not a compiler? While shifting from c++ to java we come across the differences between these two Compilation process being one of them. 1.A major difference between a compiler and interpreter is that compiler compiles the whole code at once and displays all the errors at a time whereas an interpreter interprets line by line. 2.Also a compiler takes a less time to compile a code when compared to an interpreter. When java was developed for more advanced and easy features and implementations why has it been restricted to a interpreter based on above facts? Is there any special reason why this is so? If yes what is it?

My name is Dimas and I work as a developer in a hospital. I've developed a web form with JQuery Mobile which is accessed from an Android tablet. It sends data (text and FILES) to the server (PHP) and it's saved in a MySQL database. This tablets are used by doctors that are visiting the patients in their homes. Some of these patients live in remote areas with very bad Internet connection, so I'm thinking on use HTML5 Offline feature to solve these situations. I started reading about it but I'm newbie with this technology. I've some questions: Do you think this is the best/easiest solution? If I could save the form data in a local sqlite storage when the tablet is offline, how I could synchronize it with the data in MySQL server when the tablet become online? Thanks

Ideas for Quick Hierarchical Listing - .NET

I have a table in SQL Server listing corporate departments and their sections and subsections (3 levels). I would like to create some web-based listing of this, but similar to a TreeList. I was thinking to set up nested Ajax Accordions, but it was taking me way too long to put together. I would even settle for a GridView with non-repeating column values. Is there a way I can implement my idea without it taking me more than an hour or so for a newbie to complete? Any controls in ASP.NET or Ajax I can bind to would be great.

Windows 8 taking 4+ mins to shutdown

I did a fresh installation of Windows 8 64 bit, build 9200 (released on aug 16th). I installed the drivers and some basic softwares like NetBeans, mingw, iis server and php. For the first few times, it was restarting normally. But then at shutdown, it would show the shutdown screen for some seconds and then turn black for about 4 mins (similar to what happens at hibernation). I disabled the "fast startup" option in power options, but the problem still persists. Windows 7 and Ubuntu shut down normally. specs: 4gb ram, 750 gb sata hdd, solved by installing Windows Updates released during October. It was a serious bug in the OS, afaik. Now even hibernate takes upto 30 secs max. Still, win 8 is too buggy for release.

.htaccess redirect not preserving http_referer header

We're merging with another company, and we want to redirect content from their (Apache) website to our (IIS) site. When traffic arrives at our site, we inspect the HTTP_REFERER, and if the visitor was just redirected from the company's site that we just merged with, they'll be presented with a "splash" page announcing the merger. I've added the line... Redirect / http://www.oursite.com/ ...to their .htaccess, which works fine, except that when the browser is redirected it doesn't send the HTTP_REFERER header. I've tried redirecting with redirect codes 301, 302 and 307 (the default, I believe, is 302) and all have the same effect (redirects fine, but no HTTP_REFERER). Can anyone provide some insight into why HTTP_REFERER wouldn't be included?

Hi, I'm a jquery newbie - wanted to ask what might be the best strategy for achieving what I am after as I think it uses a mix of jquery functions : If list of items exceeds 5 items a 'more' link appears which when toggled will reveal the rest of the items. If items list is 5 or less no 'more' link is shown. Hide button also at bottom of long full revealed list. (perhaps this is toggle+pagination?) OOF (Out of Office) is not working for remote users (Outlook Anywhere)

I'm not sure how long this issue has been happening, but recently a few of the remote sales users were going to a sales meeting and wanted to set their Out of Office... however in Outlook 2010, they get this error message: "Your automatic reply settings cannot be displayed because the server is currently unavailable" When I run the Exchange Remote Connectivity Analyzer, Autodiscover completes fine, but the next step fails: Exception details: Message: The request failed. This involves solving a quadratic equation involving block matrices. minimize x^t * H * x + f^t * x where x 0 Where H is a 2 X 2 block matrix with each element being a k dimensional matrix and x and f being a 2 X 1 vectors each element being a k dimension vector. I was thinking of using nd arrays. such that np.shape(H) = (2, 2, k, k) np.shape(x) = (2, k) But I figured out that np.dot(X, H) doesn't work here. Is there an easy way to solve this problem? I'm creating a prototype for a java web application. Frontend is a Swing-based java applet. Backend should be a type of web-service, that is called by applet. Backend should run inside a servlet container and should have its own security (username/password) database. I know, that Tomcat has its own user database (realm), but the app should have own. Web-services, in turn, carrying out app logic and database access (via Hibernate). I'm a newbie for a web development and I'm getting lost in a huge amount of the java web frameworks. Even just reading 'introduction' and 'getting started' documents takes a lot of time. So I need an advice which framework(s) are suitable for the task and not very complex for a quick start. I have just finished creating an entire login and register systsem in PHP, but my problem is I haven't used any sessions yet. (Like, there's not the word "session" in the entire script). I'm kind of a newbie in PHP and I've never used sessions before. What I want to do it, after the user registers and fills out the login form, they will still stay on the same page. So, like one half of the page will be if the session is logged_in and the other part will be else (the user is not logged in so display the login form). How can i use one Domain Controller to manage 3 separate small firms

currently we have one Domain Controller that have 15 users and cup off services(hMailServer, IIS, DNS, Active Directory). Now the owners of the firm created two new firms which computers and networks are my responsibility. Now i wonder how exactly to join users in existing domain. Did you think that is a good idea to just include all computers and user from all firms under one domain or there is another solution ? Did some of you run into this kind of situation and what did you do ? ---Edit--- Brent, Dan thank for info guys. For now i will follow Brent advice until we get the new server witch we will virtualize and the old server will be our second DC on different location. Heck we even might think some Pay-as-you-go VPS solution for DC redundancy.

Hello, So i am writing a little app that compares a user's position against a database on web-based server written using Django and performs some functions with it. Accessing the browser's geolocation data (in supported browsers ) is fairly trivial using JavaScript. But what is the best way to allow the Django server to access the longitude and latitude variables? Is it best to wrap them up as a JSON object and send to the server via POST? Or is there some easier (Geo)Django-based way to access the Navigator.geolocation browser object. Please forgive a newbie a question like this, but my Google-Fuing only seems to find ways to insert variables into JavaScript via template tag, whereas I need it to work the other way! Any advice or code snippets greatly appreciated. Feel free to talk to me like I am an idiot.
