• Unstable Wifi and Spontaneous Low-graphic Error with Pavilion DV4

  I've been having numerous problems with connectivity through WiFi. It had been working for a few days and now it doesn't. On top of that around 40% of every time I turn on the laptop it shows "System running in low-graphics" error and I'm unable to view the desktop (sometimes not even able to access terminal), therefore having to manually power-down until it finally works. • Dynamically added script causes problems

  I'm loading an html snippet via ajax to append to a div (I use jquery). A part of the html loaded with ajax looks like this: <script type="text/javascript" src="http://maps.google.com/maps/api/js?sensor=false"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> var options = { mapTypeId : google.maps.MapTypeId.TERRAIN } alert('test'); var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById('map-canvas'), options); </script> Then this is appended with contentBox.append(data); The problem is that this causes a black page in Firefox which keeps loading. In other browsers it seems that the code is not executed at all. Is there a solution for this?

  I wanted to enable custom shortcuts in my Firefox extension. The idea is that the user just focuses on a textbox, presses key combination, and it's shown in the textbox and saved to a preference. However, I couldn't get it to work. I've tried doing: $.autoSuggest.add_selected_item(data, opt); But am getting an $.autoSuggest is undefined. Still learning the ropes with JQUery. I am not sure exactly how this can be accomplished, if at all. Thanks!

• How can I make Access combo boxes unfurl on arrow key down?

  With combo box controls, I'm used to being able tab to them, click the down arrow key to open up the options, and then use the up and down arrow keys to navigate those options. In an Access form I've designed, pressing down while a combo box is active moves to the next control. I already have tab for that, so how can I get the down arrow to behave as I expect? These combo boxes are the only thing between me and a mouse-free form, which I consider essential for data entry. Thanks in advance for your help!

• When to use MVC Scaffolding via NuGet vs MVC Scaffolding via MVC3 Tools Update

  I am a little confused about the various different "mainstream" scaffolding options for MVC3. There is a NuGet package called MVCScaffolding. It first showed up in Jan 2011, but seems to be active and have recent updates, and be developed by Scott Hanselman, among others. Then in May 2011 came the MVC3 Tools Update. This seems like it incorporated the original scaffolding ideas into an "out of the box" scaffolding options. However, this has not been updated since. So - what is the relationship between these two scaffoldings (if any). Are there cases when one should be used over the other, or is it just a matter of taste? Does Visual Studio 2012 or MVC4 change the game on any of this? Thanks for any input.

• C++ option/long option implementation

  I am working on a parser for meta programming language using C++ on Linux platform. Right now, I need to implement option/long option for the parser to provide some additional features. Basically, if the user pass in some additional option, the parser needs to store statistics while parsing the text files. I can think of two ways to implement it. One way is to user global to store options entered by users. Another way is to create a singleton class to store options. So I would like to know if there is any other way to implement it. • Shutdown, Restart, Halt issues, not powering off system

  Before any one says search around, I have, to no avail. I can't seem to get it working after trying every fix out there. So basically, when I turn off my laptop it shuts down fine but the last line is "System will now halt" but power never gets cut, I've tried shutdown -P and shutdown -h same result. Then when I try restart it goes through the same process but hangs on "System will now restart" But I can't figure it out, I am running full Ubuntu with no other Operating Systems. Any tips?

• Select list value undefined in $(document).ready

  I have the following code, which I want to load values on a selection change, and also do the selection load initially (since FF 'saves' the last value of the drop down under certain circumstances). The select part of the function works correctly, but for some reason when calling load2 directly the value of $('#select1').value is undefined, even though when I check the DOM in Firebug right after load select1.value has a value. • Administrator user session only shows a terminal

  Weird problem: After upgrading to 11.10 (and I am sure that I worked with it for couple of days). We had a power failure, and now, when open the computer, what I get is a screen, with a scrollable list of users (administrator is one of them). When I select the administrator user, and login, I get on the top left a terminal window. That's it ! I don't see my regular ubuntu desktop. What's wrong? I have tried some of the issues mentioned here: Delete the .Xauthority sudo apt-get update *I had some DNS errors, so had to fic my /etc/resolv.config (works now) please advise.

• My first Windows Phone 7 application is live &ndash; from zero to submitted in 5 hours

  Tuesday evening I found myself minus family. I decided to use the time to “have a crack at this Silverlight Phone 7 stuff”. From zero (no experience, no tools installed, no membership on the AppHub) to submitted for approval took me from 8pm to 1am – with the last hour messing around with png files in Paint to complete the submission process! Two days later on Thursday it was approved and is now in the marketplace for you to install - or not :-) The application is very simple but it works and looks “finished” – and importantly I learnt a lot about what is involved and the power of our tooling to make this pretty easy to get going. Go on, give it a go by popping over to the App Hub. You do need to pay $99 to join the App Hub to publish but you can start by downloading the free tools and just work with the included emulator. • Atheros AR5BWB222 Wireless Intermittent Connectivity

  So I recently installed Ubuntu on my Acer Aspire V3-551 laptop. I have an Atheros AR5BWB222 wireless adapter. Everything works fine except for the wireless. I can sometimes connect to the wireless, but most of the time it will be making an attempt to connect and then enver connect. Or it will connect, but it will only stay connected for about 10 seconds before getting disconnected from the wireless. All the other drivers updated through System SettingsAdditional Drivers are fine, even the Ethernet. Its just the problem with the wireless. I've tried a power managment setting, tried looking for additional updates, but nothing fixes my problem. Is there any solution for my particular wireless card?

• Can I configure AutoMapper to read from custom column names when mapping from IDataReader?

  Psuedo code for mapping configuration (as below) is not possible since the lambda only lets us access Type IDataReader, wheras when actually mapping, AutoMapper will reach into each "cell" of each IDataRecord while IDataReader.Read() == true: var mappingConfig = Mapper.CreateMap<IDataReader, IEnumerable<MyDTO>>(); mappingConfig.ForMember( destination => destination.???, options => options.MapFrom(source => source.???)); Can anyone think of a way to do this using AutoMapper configuration at runtime or just some other dynamic approach that meets the requirement below. The requirement is to support any incoming IDataReader which may have column names that don't match the property names of MyDTO and there is no naming convention I can rely on. Instead we'll ask the user at runtime to cross-reference the expected column names with the actual column names found in the IDataReader via IDataReader.GetSchemaTable().

• Boots to a totally blank screen after I installed some ATI Radeon card updates

  I am using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, dual boot with win7 on ThinkPad T400, I followed Ubuntu update hints and installed some update for my ATI Radeon graphic card, but when I boot to Ubuntu(means I can still load GRUB), the tragedy happened, the screen goes to blank and no matter what key stroke, I can not get any responds, I try to go to text terminal, but impossible! However when I hit the power button, the computer would pop out the Ubuntu shutdown screen briefly and shut down. I figure out I should delete the updates package of my graphic card, but I don't even get a chance to go to text terminal, please help me!

• How do I get to the maintenace shell?

  I'm asking this because initially, my problem was this (power failure during installation, so I typed the following instructions in the maintenance shell: sudo mount -o remount,rw / sudo dpkg --configure a sudo mount -o remount,ro / sudo sync sudo reboot The first three lines worked, afterwards, my computer (a Dell Inspiron 530) got stalled for several hours, so I unplugged it. When I turned it on, the log in screen appeared, and after I try to write my password, it leads me back to the log screen. I must note that when I typed the first three lines during the maintenance shell mode, it said that the errors which were encountered during processing were: initscripts bluez gnome-bluetooth So, what do I have to do in order to get back to the maintenance shell so I can type code again? And, what code do I have to write in order to restore my computer? Thank you for your attention.

• Mouse cursor lag after lock screen, 64 bit 12.04

  Recently I have noticed that when I return to my computer after it has been "locked" for a while, the mouse pointer has significant lag. The cursor position appears to only update a few times a second. Moving the mouse results in the pointer "following" the movement in a jerky kind of way, and then continuing for some fraction of a second after I have stopped using the mouse. Replacing the mouse has no effect. (I have two differently branded and constructed usb optical mice). Plugging either mouse into a different usb port has no effect. Once the problem was resolved by "suspending" the system, and then re-starting it with the power switch, but this does not work every time. So far, the only fool-proof fix is to shut the system down and re-start it (re-boot). I have tried this suggested fix. It had no effect.

  Hi, Just wondering what the best way to build a NSPredicate is if some filters are optional? This is basically for a filter, so if some options aren't selected I don't to filter by them eg. If I have option1 and option2 set for the filter. NSPredicate* predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"option1 = %@ AND option2 = %@] .... otherwise if just option1 NSPredicate* predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"option1 = %@] .... The key being there are 10 different options to filter, so I don't want to have to code for the 10x10 possible combinations. Thanks

• Tiled perlin/value noise texture with (2^n)+1 size

  Actually what I have in mind is value noise I think, but what I am going to ask applies to both of them. It is known that if you want to produce tiled texture by using the perlin/value noise, the size of the texture should be specified as the power of 2 (2^n). Without any modifications to the algorithm when you use the size of (2^n)+1 the texture cannot be tiled anymore, so I am wondering whether it is possible (by modifying the algorithm somehow) to generate such tiling texture with the size of (2^n)+1. • Need to produce an animated texture of Water where each image tiles in all directions

  I need to produce a 2D 'animated' texture of "water" for a game in which each image tiles in 'all' directions, much like those produced by the Caustics Generator, but with the power and flexibility of something the likes of Blender. The final result from Caustics Generator is 32 images that are actually animated such that when the full 32 images are played in a loop they will seamlessly loop forever. They will not only loop in time, but each image also tile in all directions. This is nice, but it comes in only one flavor so to speak. I'd like to accomplish the same thing with a Blender type tool, and I have actually gotten to the point where I generate the X number of images, but they do not tile in 'all' directions, nor are they slightly animated. I've tried Blender texture animations using offsets but with only limited success. Does anyone know of how to (or of a tool) which will animate textures such that they tile in all (4) directions? • How to get audio spectrum analysis?

  I need to find or create a tool that analyzes the audio spectrum of a sound file (like a .wav or .mp3). I need to output the "volume" or power of x number of frequency bands and output the data as text. This will be used to produce a visualization, a graphic equalizer like you'd see on a stereo. I am currently looking at python to do it. My question is are there some tools out there that would do this (signal processing), like math works or others? I don't have any experience with them so any advice would be appreciated.
