• JSON Syntax, what is this?

  I understand concepts of JSON ok, but after starting to use ebay's api, I came across a notation which I've not seen before, and was wondering if anyone could explain what's going on with it? { "findItemsByKeywordsResponse": [ { "ack": [ "Success" ], "version": [ "1.5.0" ], "timestamp": [ "2010-06-16T08:42:21.468Z" ], "searchResult": [ { "@count": "0" } ], "paginationOutput": [ { "pageNumber": [ "0" ], "entriesPerPage": [ "10" ], "totalPages": [ "0" ], "totalEntries": [ "0" ] } ] } ] } What's the "@count" thing? I noticed when I reference it in chrome, it throws an error: But in Firefox not. JSON Lint reports it's valid, as I'd expect... ;)

• Patterns for avoiding jQuery silent fails

  Is there any good practice to avoid your jQuery code silently fail? For example: $('.this #is:my(complexSelector)').doSomething(); I know that every time this line get executed, the selector is intended to match at least one element, or certain amount of elements. Is there any standard or good way to validate that? I thought about something like this: var $matchedElements = $('.this #is:my(complexSelector)'); if ($matchedElements.length < 0) throw 'No matched elements'; $matchedElements.doSomething(); Also I think unit testing would be a valid option instead of messing the code. My question may be silly, but I wonder whether there is a better option than the things that I'm currently doing or not. Also, maybe I'm in the wrong way checking if any element match my selector. However, as the page continues growing, the selectors could stop matching some elements and pieces of functionality could stop working inadvertently.

• Clearcase and java process : changing view does not apply

  i have a simple application, which receives input from a user for a CC stream name, and is suppose to return the content of a specific file from this stream repository. I have tried doing this using a simple shell script: user enters stream name, java receives stream name, runs a process which runs a script "myccscript.sh" which contains "myinput=$1; cleartool setview $myinput" (or something like that). then i try reading the file and printing it's content in the java side. BUT, after the process is finished - the view is not the view from the user input - that environment was probably only valid for the process Ive created. how do i change the clearcase view to the main java process? • Django 1.2: Dates in admin forms don't work with Locales (I10N=True)

  I have an application in Django 1.2. Language is selectable (I18N and Locale = True) When I select the english lang. in the site, the admin works OK. But when I change to any other language this is what happens with date inputs (spanish example): Correctly, the input accepts the spanish format %d/%m/%Y (Even selecting from the calendar, the date inserts as expected). But when I save the form and load it again, the date shows in the english form: %Y-%m-%d The real problem is that when I load the form to change any other text field and try to save it I get an error telling me to enter a valid date, so I have to write all dates again or change the language in the site to use the admin. I haven't specified anything for DATE_INPUT_FORMATS in settings nor have I overridden forms or models. Surely I am missing something but I can't find it. Can anybody give me a hint?

• ASP.NET MVC 2 Model object validation

  Hey guys, I'm trying to validate a model object outside of the context of ModelState within a controller, I currently have a parser that creates model objects from an excel file and I want to be able to report how many entries were added to the database and how many failed, is there a way to validate a model object on its data annotations outside of model binding? I'm looking for something similar to the rails model method of model.valid? or a way for me to implement that myself. My current solution is just manually checking if a few key fields are present but this duplicates requirements between my model class and its metadata, there has to be a better way to hook into the model validation checking that is done by mvc 2. • Freeing ImageData when deleting a Canvas

  I'm writing a XUL application using HTML Canvas to display Bitmap images. I'm generating ImageDatas and imporingt them in a canvas using the putImageData function : for(var pageIndex=0;pageIndex<100;pageIndex++){ this.img = imageDatas[pageIndex]; /* Create the Canvas element */ var imgCanvasTmp = document.createElementNS("http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml",'html:canvas'); imgCanvasTmp.setAttribute('width', this.img.width); imgCanvasTmp.setAttribute('height', this.img.height); /* Import the image into the Canvas */ imgCanvasTmp.getContext('2d').putImageData(this.img, 0, 0); /* Use the Canvas into another part of the program (Commented out for testing) */ // this.displayCanvas(imgCanvasTmp,pageIndex); } The images are well imported but there seems to be a memory leak due to the putImageData function. When exiting the "for" loop, I would expect the memory allocated for the Canvas to be freed but, by executing the code without executing putImageData, I noticed that my program at the end use 100Mb less (my images are quite big). I came to the conclusion that the putImageData function prevent the garbage collector to free the allocated memory. Do you have any idea how I could force the garbage collector to free the memory? Is there any way to empty the Canvas? I already tried to delete the canvas using the delete operator or to use the clearRect function but it did nothing. I also tried to reuse the same canvas to display the image at each iteration but the amount of memory used did not changed, as if the image where imported without deleting the existing ones...

• MySQL inner join different results

  I am trying to work out why the following two queries return different results: SELECT DISTINCT i.id, i.date FROM `tblinvoices` i INNER JOIN `tblinvoiceitems` it ON it.userid=i.userid INNER JOIN `tblcustomfieldsvalues` cf ON it.relid=cf.relid WHERE i.`tax` = 0 AND i.`date` BETWEEN '2012-07-01' AND '2012-09-31' and SELECT DISTINCT i.id, i.date FROM `tblinvoices` i WHERE i.`tax` = 0 AND i.`date` BETWEEN '2012-07-01' AND '2012-09-31' Obviously the difference is the inner join here, but I don't understand why the one with the inner join is returning less results than the one without it, I would have thought since I didn't do any cross table references they should return the same results. The final query I am working towards is SELECT DISTINCT i.id, i.date FROM `tblinvoices` i INNER JOIN `tblinvoiceitems` it ON it.userid=i.userid INNER JOIN `tblcustomfieldsvalues` cf ON it.relid=cf.relid WHERE cf.`fieldid` =5 AND cf.`value` REGEXP '[A-Za-z]' AND i.`tax` = 0 AND i.`date` BETWEEN '2012-07-01' AND '2012-09-31' But because of the different results that seem incorrect when I add the inner join (it removes some results that should be valid) it's not working at present, thanks.

• controling a float value with javascript

  Hi, to control my input type and verify that its value is pretty a float in my form i deal with it in javascript like that: function verifierNombre () { var champ=document.getElementById("nperformed"); var str = champ.value; if(str.value==' '){champ.focus();} if (isNaN(str)) { alert("Invalid Valid! the field must be a number"); champ.focus(); return false; } return true; } but it still false because it doesn't accept really floats. so when entering a value like '11,2' the alert is declenched. I want to know how can I control float values with javascript. thanks.

• Intent flags to Login page redirect, killing previous Activities

  Basically I have a Service that at some points it will sync with the network in order to check if the token is still valid. if it isn't, it should redirect to the login screen (from the service) and if the user press the back button, it should NOT show the previous Activity but instead exit the app. I'm not asking how to hack onBackPressed, I already know how to do it. I'm asking how to accomplish this using the intent flags. So far I have tried the following: intent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP | Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK); Using the FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK is mandatory because I'm calling startActivity() from a service (or at least thrown exception told me so), and using FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP cause it was supposed to remove all previous activities from the stack, leaving only the new one. The issue is if I press back, I am still able to go to the previous Activity, which makes me think the combination of both flags are clearing the activities in the NEW task, not in the previous one I might be wrong on the reason, but it doesn't work. Any help will be appreciated, thanks

• Can I use MPI_Probe to probe messsages sent by any collective operation?

  In my code I have a server process repeatedly probing for incoming messages, which come in two types. One type of the two will be sent once by each process to give hint to the server process about its termination. I was wondering if it is valid to use MPI_Broadcast to broadcast these termination messages and use MPI_Probe to probe their arrivals. I tried using this combination but it failed. This failure might have been caused by some other things. So I would like anyone who knows about this to confirm. Cheers.

  Suppose that I have a test server with a large group of test accounts. The test accounts have unknown passwords which are hard-coded into the application's reports and are stored encrypted in the mysql.users table. Is there any option or hack which can be used to make mysql accept any text as the "correct" password for an account? For example: Update mysql.user Set Password="*" where 1=1 Note: The above line wouldn't work because it would literally set the password to "*" and not the wildcard character. However, I am looking for a way to create a mysql account which would accept anything as a valid password. This machine is disconnected from the network and I have full access to the mysql database...

My program starts and a main NSWindows is showed.A thread still running to see if the user has a valid distribution. if he doesn't I need to run a modal.I mean, I have no buttons clicked in the interface.I've designed a NSWindow on the interface builder for a password set, and I want to call it only when my validation is not successful. • oracle call stored procedure inside select

  Hi everybody. I'm working on a query (a SELECT) and I need to insert the result of this one in a table. Before doing the insert I have some checking to do, and if all columns are valid, I will do the insert. The checking is done in a stored procedure. The same procedure is used somewhere else too. So I'm thinking using the same procedure to do my checks. The procedure does the checkings and insert the values is all OK. I tryied to call the procedure inside my SELECT but it does not works. SELECT field1, field2, myproc(field1, field2) from MYTABLE. This kind of code does not works. I think it can be done using a cursor, but I would like to avoid the cursors. I'm looking for the easiest solution. Anybody, any idea ? Thanks alot. C.C.

  Can I use ActionView::Helpers::SanitizeHelper#sanitize on user-entered text that I plan on showing to other users? E.g., will it properly handle all cases described on this site? Also, the documentation mentions: Please note that sanitizing user-provided text does not guarantee that the resulting markup is valid (conforming to a document type) or even well-formed. The output may still contain e.g. unescaped ’<’, ’’, ’&’ characters and confuse browsers. What's the best way to handle this? Pass the sanitized text through Hpricot before displaying?

• [php + mysql] Save IP in database

  When a user logs inn I want to save their IP in the database. How would I do that? What type is best to use for the MySQL field? How would the PHP code to get IP look like? I'm thinking of using it as an extra security feature for the login/session stuff. I'm thinking of checking the IP the user logged in with from the DB with the IP the user have now as addition to checking the session. So that it first check the session, and then check if you have a valid IP. Is that an allright extra feature? And what other things can I do to make it more secure?

• How to declare a pointer to a variable as a parameter of a function in C++?

  I have a function that takes a pointer to a D3DXVECTOR3, but I have no reason to declare this beforehand. The most logical solution to me was using new: Function( //other parameters, new D3DXVECTOR3(x, y, 0)); but I don't know how I would go about deleting it, beign intitialized in a function. My next thought was to use the & operator, like so: Function( //other parameters, &D3DVECTOR3(x, y, 0)); but I don't know if this is a valid way to go about doing this. (It doesn't get an error, but neither does int *x; x = 50;). So should I use new, &, or some other technique I'm overlooking?

• Proper use of use of "cor" function in R

  I am interested to know what a proper x (vector matrix or data frame) input looks like. I am currently using the function in two different sorts of matrices. However, I am not sure how R would interpret my data the way I intend. I will explain the types of matrix by example. Type 1 Gene1 Gene2 Gene3 sample1 sample2 Type 2 Sample1 Sample2 Sample3 gene 1 gene 2 gene 3 Are either of these formats valid x parameters? • Sending JSON content type in from JavaScript objects ( jQuery ajax )

  I am having trouble sending JavaScript objects as a http request that only accepts json content-type. i.e "application/json" or "text/json" But, I am not sure why data2 ( stringified json ) works fine But, data1 ( json object ) does throws 400 ( Bad Request ). i.e I am not sure jQuery does not serialize the json object to a valid json string for the server to process. var data1 = ({ rating : 3 }); //does not work var data2 = '{ "rating" : 3}'; //works fine $.ajax({ url : "/rate", data : data1, type : "POST", contentType: "application/json", success: function(json){ console.log("Ajax Return :"+json); } });

  In some JavaScript code snippets (e.g. http://mckoss.com/jscript/object.htm) I have seen objects being created in this way: var obj = new Foo; However, at least at MDC, it seems that the parentheses are not optional when creating an object: var obj = new Foo(); Is the former way of creating objects valid and defined in the ECMA standard? Are there any differences between the former way of creating objects and the later? Is one preferred over the other? Thanks in advance.
