• Getting "Object is read only" error when setting ClientCredentials in WCF

  I have a proxy object generated by Visual Studio (client side) named ServerClient. I am attempting to set ClientCredentials.UserName.UserName/Password before opening up a new connection using this code: InstanceContext context = new InstanceContext(this); m_client = new ServerClient(context); m_client.ClientCredentials.UserName.UserName = "Sample"; As soon as the code hits the UserName line it fails with an "Object is read-only" error. I know this can happen if the connection is already open or faulted, but at this point I haven't called context.Open() yet. I have configured the Bindings (which uses netTcpBinding) to use Message as it's security mode, and MessageClientCredentialType is set to UserName. Any ideas?

  Hi, c# .Net 3.5 visual studio 2008, windows xp I have a main form in a project, given a specific set of circumstances another form is instantiated and displayed to the user: Form frmT = new frmTargetFolder(expName, this); frmT.Show(); As you can see, I am passing a reference to the new form from the current one. My question is, what do I have to do to a method so that it is exposed to the new form, the same for a variable? I have tried defining the functions as public, but I can't seem to access them, also I have written a Get and Set method for a variable, again how do I expose these functions and methods to other forms? public void hit() { MessageBox.Show("hit it"); } bool setOverRide { get { return OverRide; } set { OverRide = value; } } The main form is called frmDataXfer and the form, form which I am trying to call the functions and methods of frmDataXfer is called frmTargetFolder, an instance of which is created in the frmDataXfer and referenced as frmT. • Capture window close event

  I want to capture events that close editor window (tab) in Visual Studio 2008 IDE. When I use dte2.Application.Events.get_CommandEvents(null, 0).BeforeExecute I successfully captured such events: File.Close File.CloseAllButThis File.Exit Window.CloseDocumentWindow and others. If code in window is not acceptable, I stop the event (CancelDefault = true). But if I click "X" button on the right hand side, "Save Changes"; dialog appears, tab with editor window close and I have no any captured events. In this case I can capture WindowClosing event, but can not cancel the event. Is it poosible to handle "x" button click and stop event?

• Web Application Project Deployment VS2010 - Precompile Views

  Using Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate I created a ASP.NET MVC 2.0 Web Application. Its about the new features for Web Application Deployment. I dont see an option to precompile Views. Also I dont see other options that where available in previous version of Web Deployment Project: ie if the web is compiled into a single assembly or into one assembly per page. I had the impression that Application Project Deployment is the scuccessor of Web Deployment Project.. maybe I am wrong about it. How should I precompile views now?

  I tried drag and drop from the explorer, but no luck with following error: "Folders cannot be dropped or pasted as solution items. Choose an individual document instead." I know we can create each folders/subfolders manually and add each file, but any quick way to do this on visual studio 2005? Updated: Thank you for the reply, but I do not want the folders to be added under any project, It should appear as a separate node inside my solution, like any other project. In this case the show all files does not work, since the solution itself does not have any folder, it is only if we select any project it works. I know we can create each folders/subfolders manually and add each file, but any quick way, because there are few hundreds of files.

• SWIG generated code fails to run on PHP 5.3.2 undefined symbol: zend_error_noreturn

  I have a library that I have been using successfully with PHP 5.1.6 with the help of some wrapper code generated by SWIG (v1.3.40). I have just upgraded to PHP 5.3.2 and I am seeing the following error: PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib/php/modules/myLib_php.so' - /usr/lib/php/modules/myLib_php.so: undefined symbol: zend_error_noreturn in Unknown on line 0 On investigation it appears that the wrapper code produced by SWIG (myLib_wrap.c) includes calls to the PHP function: zend_error_noreturn and that this function isn't available in PHP 5.3.2? Has anyone seen this issue before? Things seem to work if I manually update the generated code so that instead of calling zend_error_noreturn it just calls zend_error. Is this approach safe?

• How do I upgrade my Crystal Report libraries in a .NET 3.5 project to CR XI R2?

  Our project currently uses Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2008. We need to upgrade to XI R2, but I'm having problems doing so. Here are the steps I followed: Install Crystal Reports XI R2. Collect updated assemblies from the GAC. I did this because I couldn't find version XI libraries in the "Add References..." dialog. I verified that these assemblies were of version 11.5.*. The libraries I gathered were: CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine CrystalDecisions.Enterprise.Framework CrystalDecisions.Enterprise.InfoStore CrystalDecisions.ReportSource CrystalDecisions.Shared CrystalDecisions.Windows.Forms Replace all references in my projects to version 10.5 Crystal libraries with references to the newer assemblies. Everything builds fine, but when I try to instantiate a ReportDocument, I get this error: The type initializer for 'CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument' threw an exception. Is there anything I'm missing? Will this just not work?

  I was working with a WPF application and I decided that the controls and graphics I wanted to display on the grid might look better if it was a silverlight component. I thought this way because of all the cool silverlight controls that look very flash-like. But now that I have gottem my Visual Studio 2010 set up with SIlverlight, it seems that every silverlight app I can make are ASP.NET in nature. It seems that instead of a cool GUI control to make, Silverlight is telling me that it is primarely a dataflow sort of application for the web. What is the relationship, if any, between WPF and Silverlight. Can I or can I not put a silverlight control into my existing WPF application?

I want to stop that. I read about: array('escape' => false) Somewhere, but I don't know how to use that with $value->setMultiOptions($songs); or $value->addMultiOptions($songs) Any ideas?   In Visual Studio 2010, I have a number of unit tests. When I run multiple tests at one time using test lists, I sometimes reveive the following error for one or more of the tests: The agent process was stopped while the test was running. It is never the same test failing, and if I try to run the test again, it succeeds. I found this bug report on Connect, which seems to be the same problem, but it does not offer a solution. Has anyone else seen this behaviour ? How I can avoid it ?

  I created a SDF (SQL CE) database with Visual Studio 2008 (Add / New Item / Local Database). Is it possible to edit this database with SQL Server Management Studio? I tried to attach it but it only offered .mdf and attaching a .sdf file results in "failed to retrieve data for this request". If so, is it possible to create SDF files with Management Studio as well? Or are we stuck with the simple interface of the Visual Studio 2008 database manager?

• How do I give each test its own TestResults folder?

  I have a set of unit tests, each with a bunch of methods, each of which produces output in the TestResults folder. At the moment, all the test files are jumbled up in this folder, but I'd like to bring some order to the chaos. Ideally, I'd like to have a folder for each test method. I know I can go round adding code to each test to make it produce output in a subfolder instead, but I was wondering if there was a way to control the output folder location with the Visual Studio unit test framework, perhaps using an initialization method on each test class so that any new tests added automatically get their own output folder without needing copy/pasted boilerplate code?

  I'm writing a PHP extension similar to V8JS. The goal, like V8JS, is to embed the V8 engine into PHP so I can execute sandboxed JavaScript code in PHP. (The implementation is different.) • What did I lose when I upgraded?

  I upgraded my work box from Vista64 to Win7-64 by doing a format and reinstall. I kept backups of the project done in MS Visual Studio 2008 (Team). But now it won't compile. I am getting errors generated on lines in the MS created header files like "'_In_' not defined" etc. I know it is because I lost some compiler setting/directive. I was sure that the compiler settings would be in the project file; now I see that things like the include file directories, LIB files, etc. are not. [FYI: The project is a VB.NET GUI with VC++ DLL talking to a PIC24 micro over USB.] How do I most efficiently get my project back on the road to execution?

• Entitiy Framework: "Update Database from Model" instead of "Generate Database from Model"

  Hey everyone, I have created a Entity Framework 4 model with Visual Studio 2010 and generated a database from it. Now I found myself adding new properties (with default values), changing documentation of columns, changing names of columns, changing types of columns several times. All tasks that do not require much "extra work" in order not to be possible to be achieved automatically (in my humble opinion). Everytime I did "Generate Database from Model" and lost of course the table data. Is there a way just to update the database's architecture so to say - leaving the table data untouched? Maybe with some user interaction especially when changing types etc.? Or would this functionality be simply too difficult to be realized to work in a reliable way? Thanks in advance! Cheers, David

• The best way to organize WPF projects

  Hello everybody, I've started recently to develop a new software in WPF, and I still don't know which is the best way to organize the application, to be more productive with Visual Studio and Expression Blend. I noticed 2 annoying things I'd like to solve: I'm using Code Contracts in my projects, and when I run my project with Expression Blend, it launches the static analysis of the code. How can I stop that? Which configuration of the project does Blend use by default? I've tried to disable Code Contracts in a new configuration. It works in VS as the static analysis is not launched, but it has no effects in Blend. I've thinked about splitting the Windows Application in 2 parts: the first one containing the views of the WPF (app.exe) and the second one being the core of the project, with the logic code (app.core.dll), and I would just open the former project in Blend. • Can't access stored procedure from entities

  Hello I'm using entity framework that came with 3.5sp1. And in visual studio I have imported function so it shows under "Function Imports" in the "Model Browser". I have assigned all rights to the user that connects to the database. But it doesnt show in the intellisense when I type "_entities.", only my other entities shows there. I opened the designer file and couldnt find it there either..... The stored procedure should return a scalar datetime value, and not an "entity" What might be wrong here? /M

• Windows CE 5.0 emulator needed

  I need an emulator for Windows CE 5.0 to test an embedded device (not PDA or smartphone) application that I am developing. This is what I have already tried: Visual Studio 2008 Pro includes an emulator. Unfortunately, it does not include a Windows CE image (only Windows Mobile and Smartphone). Yes, there is a difference, see the screenshots here. Windows CE includes a "start button", windows that can be minimized, moved around etc. There is a Windows CE Device Emulator available from Microsoft. Apart from the fact that its license only permits non-commercial use, it does not run in Windows 7 (it requires .net Framework 1.1, which is incompatible with Windows 7) nor in Windows XP mode (error message: "Emulator for Windows CE will not run one virtual machine within another. Please run the virtual machine on the host operating system"). Is there any option that I have missed?

• Preventing referenced assembly PDB and XML files copied to output

  I have a Visual Studio 2008 C#/.NET 3.5 project with a post build task to ZIP the contents. However I'm finding that I'm also getting the referenced assemblies' .pdb (debug) and .xml (documentation) files in my output directory (and ZIP). For example, if MyProject.csproj references YourAssembly.dll and there are YourAssembly.xml and YourAssembly.pdb files in the same directory as the DLL they will show up in my output directory (and ZIP). I can exclude *.pdb when ZIP'ing but I cannot blanket exclude the *.xml files as I have deployment files with the same extension. Is there a way to prevent the project from copying referenced assembly PDB and XML files?

  Hi, I modified Magento pdf invoice with Zend_PDF. Output PDF looks fine on google doc and my local pdf reader (PDF+), but not on adobe reader 9.
