  I am using the GWT and the GWTExt libraries with Eclipse for the first time. • Don't launch application from widget

  Hi all, I'm trying to make an appwidget where I have a dialog pop up on top of the home screen. (Ex the Facebook widget). I have button on the widget and an activity that I run when the button is clicked. I have the activity set to the Theme.Translucent.NoTitleBar theme so that the dialog and/or toast I have should pop up over the home screen. Anyways, whenever I have the transparent activity open, it opens the application instead of staying on the home screen. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

  This is a broad but specific question. The idea is that we want to tie in a 'buddy' functionality to a communications app. Very broadly, I believe that the application clients would connect to a central database/auth service which would provide the buddy data and then allow client apps to connect directly to eachother, without passing communications through the server. Specifically, however, what solutions, software, products, servers, technologies, etc would be best to implement to handle such a task?   I have a feature in my web app like I have to send mails from the server to many email ids (some kind of notification stuff) my web application is implemented in struts2. Possibly I have to use javamail api i guess. I am completely new to this javamail and sending mail from server. what basic steps I need to do to setup a mail server in windows, contact the server from my java web app. What api i should I use ? The web has very limited tutorials on javamail and they are damn complicated too. Is there any other api other than javamail by which I can send mail from my java struts2 web app. thanks

• Monitor database table for external changes from within Rails application

  I'm integrating some non-rails-model tables in my Rails application. Everything works out very nicely, the way I set up the model is: class Change < ActiveRecord::Base establish_connection(ActiveRecord::Base.configurations["otherdb_#{RAILS_ENV}"]) set_table_name "change" end This way I can use the Change model for all existing records with find etc. Now I'd like to run some sort of notification, when a record is added to the table. Since the model never gets created via Change.new and Change.save using ActiveRecord::Observer is not an option. Is there any way I can get some of my Rails code to be executed, whenever a new record is added? I looked at delayed_job but can't quite get my head around, how to set that up. I imagine it evolves around a cron-job, that selects all rows that where created since the job last ran and then calls the respective Rails code for each row.

• Connecting my flex application to Restlet webservices

  Hi, I am doing some trial testing awith Amazon ec2 boxes, deploying flex apps running on top of restlet powered webservices. I have this problem - Everytime i deploy the app to the cloud, I'm having to hardcode the IP address of the server into the ActionScript/MXML files (http://72.93.48.39:8080/xxx/abc/) and for certain reasons, i am forced to choose a different IP everytime. and i think its really not the right way to deploy the application. I would like to know what other people do in such scenarios? On thinking about it, i thought i could make it pickup values from the HTMLVars of the HTML wrapper. but that again has to be edited everytime again and again. will it be possible to be able to supply these values : server's ip address, server's port number(in case its not 8080 on some machine) at build time? if so can anyone give me a barbones sample build.xml just as an example?

  I want to create a desktop manager that takes informations of all running applications including states and screenshots to display and manipulate them in my virtual space (probably in 3D). It can be considered as another layer of abstraction on top of Windows itself. Because many native Windows Vista/7 features like Flip 3D and Live Thumbnails are able to show each window's activities in real-time e.g. video keeps playing in taskbar's thumbnail, I think DWM allows an application to redirect its output to somewhere else or some special processes are able to collect other applications' graphical outputs (maybe of child processes only). Has Microsoft released a set of public APIs to do so? If not, is it technically possible? And is it easier if I limit my scope to just .NET applications with WPF?

  I am trying to call a function from a Silverlight application. It should be a very simple task to do but so far I am not getting the result that I am looking for. Why am I getting "Undefined" all the time ?

  In my custom field in a BlackBerry CLDC Application, I want to display a specific context menu based on the current state of the field. My original idea was to do something like this: protected void makeContextMenu(ContextMenu contextMenu) { if (isPaused()) contextMenu.addItem(resumeMenuItem); else contextMenu.addItem(pauseMenuItem); } However, the state of the field doesn't seem to be affecting the items on the context menu. I'm assuming that the context menu only gets "made" once during the life of the field. Is there a way to do what I'm trying to do?

  I have an application that sends an email to a user so that they may access a web form. In the email there is just a link to the start page of this form. Currently, I have the value for the form location hardcoded. Once the app is deployed I know it is in inetpub/wwwroot/appName, which results in a URL of serverip:appPort/appName. What is the C# to get the serverip:appPort portion of the URL that I need? I think that server.mappath() might work, but for some reason I can't get to the method even though I have the necessary references.

  What is the recommended way to log application-specific messages in web2py? I found the documentation on HTTP logging, but I'm thinking more of messages for debugging and tracking. Should I simply use the logging module in each separate controller file? Is there a central place in which I could initialize a logger that can be shared between controllers? Or, is something built-in to web2py that I should use? Update: It looks like I can't even fully use the logging module in web2py. It looks like web2py ships with it's own version of the python libraries (in library.zip), which I'm not a big fan of. Is that by design? I'm guessing there will be issues with simply adding my installed Python libraries to the sys.path at run-time, so what should I do?

  Hi, I want using GPS data (I got it from $GPRMC) in an desktop application(that uses from mappoint 2009). I get the latitude & longitude, but when I check these points on map, I see the result is incorrect (for example My Data is: 43.412 N, 79.369 W ; but the correct point is: 43.686 N, 79.616 W ). I guess, I must use a correction method before use; I try "Projection method" like "Miller" or "Mercator", but those aren't effective. Can anyone guide me?

  hellow all i am using svn for version control for an iphone application . i have created it from xcode repositories by giving url ,user name and password its authenticated .After that i have created a directory from there itself and have imported my project there. Then i have checked out to the local directory and have updated something in it. Click on commit changes. It done. After that i came to terminal to commit the project first time from terminal .There i have removed the build of the project then gave a command like "svn update". here i am getting error like svn: PROPFIND request failed on '/svn/pacman/GameDevelopment/Game'and 403 Forbidden error whts going wrong here? could any one help me in this ? I am a begineer at MEF and WPF and although MEF is loading the assemblies I'm stuck at loading the controls into the TabItem I have created. • Silverlight data-driven application with NHibernate

  Hi Guys, this is more of a subjective Question, but I'll ask it anyway. I'm about to develop a very data-centric application that has to run inside the browser. The frontend will be Silverlight, backed by a Fluent NHibernate service that runs server side. The problem here is: Wherever I look for data-driven silverlight app I wind up finding Silverlight RIA services examples, but nothing on how to build this without some ADO.NET stuff involved. I have little to no knowledge in WCF so far, but from the limited research I did it seems like WCF is pretty much the only way to let the client talk to the server. Are there any tutorials/best practices on how to write a Silverlight MVVM app that provides CRUD for a non-EF database? Suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks PS: I can't use .NET remoting. The backend has to run on IIS6 :(

  Hi there, Just wanting to know if anybody has seen an example of a telnet/chat or other console like FLEX application where you can use the same TextArea as input/ouput area. I've been trying to modify the app at: http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/html/17_Networking_and_communications_8.html but so far, computer says no. All the implementations I've seen use a combination of TextInput and TextArea. The challenge is that we'll be using this app to telnet into some old routers and we'll need to do a fair amount of copy/pasting. Based on what I've seen, it seems that I would need to point the mouse into the TextInput in order to be able to right click and paste, which is not very sleak..... Your thoughts, Fran

  I need to create several windows before NSDocument is loaded, or create a window that blocks NSDocument window and top menu. I tried several solutions - but they didn't work right. modal window, one after another. there were some problems with Async URLConnection, and some other problems with my NSDocument content. I created custom MainMenu.xib with no menu, that opens my preinitialize windows. here i found some other problems, when a file(associated with my application) is opened - the Document Window initializes. Here i tried to subclass NSDocumentController, but i found no way to pause the "open document". (i want the document to be opened anyway, but only after the preinitalize windows would be closed). So what is the right way to do this?
