  • Returning data from SQL Server reporting web service call

    Hi, I am generating a report that contains the version number. The version number is stored in the DB and retrieved/incremented as part of the report generation. The only problem is, I am calling SSRS via a web service call, which returns the generated report as a byte array. Is there any way to get the version number out of this generated report? For example to display a dialog that says "You generated Status Report, Version number 3". I tried passing in an output parameter and setting it inside the storedproc. Its modified when i execute it in sql management studio, but not in the reporting studio. Or atleast i can't seem to bind to the modified, post execution value (using expression "=Parameters!ReportVersion.Value"). Of course, I could get/increment the version number from database myself before calling the SSRS webservice and pass it along as a parameter to the Report, but that might cause concurrancy problems. On the whole, it just seems neater for the storedproc to access/generate a version number and return it to the ReportingEngine, which will generate the report with the version number and return the updated version number to the WebService client. Any thoughts/Ideas?

    Our application allows administrators to add “User Properties” in order for them to be able to tailor the system to match their own HR systems. For example, if your company has departments, you can define “Departments” in the Properties table and then add values that correspond to “Departments” such as “Jewelry”, “Electronics” etc… You are then able to assign a department to users. Here is the schema: In this schema, a User can have only one UserPropertyValue per Property, but doesn’t have to have a value for the property. I am trying to build a query that will be used in SSRS 2005 and also have it use the PropertyValues as the filter for users. My query looks like this: SELECT UserLogin, FirstName, LastName FROM Users U LEFT OUTER JOIN UserPropertyValues UPV ON U.ID = UPV.UserID WHERE UPV.PropertyValueID IN (1, 5) When I run this, if the user has ANY of the property values, they are returned. What I would like to have is where this query will return users that have values BY PROPERTY. So if PropertyValueID = 1 is of Department (Jewelry), and PropertyValueID = 5 is of EmploymentType (Full Time), I want to return all users that are in Department Jewelry that are EmployeeType of Full Time, can this be done? Here's a full data example: User A has Department(Jewelry value = 1) and EmploymentType(FullTime value = 5)User B has Department(Electronics value = 2) and EmploymentType(FullTime value = 5)User C has Department(Jewelry value = 1) and EmployementType(PartTime value = 6) My query should only return User A using the above query UPDATE: I should state that this query is used as a dataset in SSRS, so the parameter passed to the query will be @PropertyIDs and it is defined as a multi-value parameter in SSRS. WHERE UPV.PropertyValueID IN (@PropertyIDs)

  • Why can't I expose an interface in a .NET asmx web service?

    I have a .NET web service (using asmx...have not upgraded to WCF yet) that exposes the following: public class WidgetVersion1 : IWidget {} public class WidgetVersion2 : IWidget {} When I attempt to bind to the web service, I get the following serialization error: Cannot serialize member WidgetVersion1 of type IWidget because it is an interface. I have tried adding various attributes to the IWidget interface (XmlIgnore, SoapIgnore, NonSerialized), but they are not valid on an interface. Does anyone know why I am unable to expose the interface? I assume WSDL does not support interfaces, but couldn't .NET get around this by simply not serializing the interface? Are there any ways around this apart from removing the IWidget interface from the WidgetVersion1 and WidgetVersion2 class definitions?

    hi, i have a windows service that get user details and save the result into log text file. and, my problem is when i shut down or log off my system, i also would like to save the time that i down my system into that log file. but, i don't know how to do that.     Hi, In my app I 'm first connecting to a web service, which in return sends a url for a file. I use the url to download the file and then display it on the new view. I get the correct URL but not able to download file from that location. I have another test app which will download file from the same location and it works like a charm. following is my code for webservice-file download. This is a snippet of the code where i 'm parsing the web service xml and then pass the result to NSData for file download.   • Java webservice does not return all struct array

    Hi I wrote a webservice which runs correctly. In the webservice, there is a class which contains other classes' arrays and the webservice returns this class's instance. for example public class cls1 implements Serializable{ cls2[] cls2Arr; cls3[] cls3Arr; } I fill this arrays (cls2Arr and cls3Arr) correctly in service side. When I read this arrays from client, I see only last item of arrays. I checked on the service side before the webservice returns, and the cls1 instance and everything else looked good. What can be a reason ? Thx

  • Should I stick only to AWS RDS Automated Backup or DB Snapshots?

    I am using AWS RDS for MySQL. With it comes on backup, I understand that amazon provides two types of backup - automated backup and database (DB) snapshot. The difference is explain in here - http://aws.amazon.com/rds/faqs/#23. However, I am still confuse if should I stick to automated backup only or both automated and manual (db snapshots). What do you think guys? What's the setup of your own? I heard to others that automated backup is not reliable due to some unrecoverable database when the DB instance is crashed so the DB snapshots are the way to rescue you. If I will do daily DB snapshots as similar settings to automated backup, I have gonna pay much bunch of bucks. Hope anyone could enlighten me or advise me the right set up. Thanks. James

I am also trying to answer why would I use this instead of a web service? After getting my examples running, I kind get the RESTful approach to getting data out the system. And, plugging it into a .net client is incredibly easy. But, then I wondered how a non-.NET consumer would go about it. Any ideas (pointers) definitely appreciated...

One source suggests it may be a Soap 1.1 vs. Soap 1.2 issue Indeed my WCF generated WSDL <wsdl:fault name="PasswordReuseFaultFault"> <wsp:PolicyReference URI="#blah_blah_blah_PasswordReuseFaultFault_Fault"/> <soap12:fault name="PasswordReuseFaultFault" use="literal"/> </wsdl:fault> notice the <soap12:fault>instead of the expected <soap:fault> I'm pretty sure that is the cause of the problem. How do I get WCF to generate soap 1.1 WSDL ? or What should I tell the Java team to do so their tools can understand the newer protocol?

  • Ways of breaking down SQL transactional/call data into reports -- 'square data'?

    I've got a large database of call-traffic information (although the question could be answered with any generic data set.) For instance, a row contains : call endpoint server (endpoint_name) call endpoint status (sip_disconnect_reason) call destination (destination) call completed (duration) [duration 0 is completed] call account group (account_group) It's pretty easy to run SQL reports against the data, i.e. select count(*), endpoint_name from calls where duration0 group by endpoint_name select count(*),destination from calls where blah group by destination I've been calling this filtering or breakdown reports (I get the number of calls per carrier, etc.). Add another breakdown, and you've got two breakdowns, a la select count(*), endpoint_name, sip_disconnect_reason from calls where duration=0 group by endpoint_name, sip_disconnect_reason Of course, if you keep adding breakdowns, you end up making super-large reports and slicing your data so thin that you can't extract any trends from it. So my question is this : Is there a name for this sort of method of report writing? (I've heard words like squares, slicing and breakdown reports applied to them) --- I'm looking for a Python/Reporting toolkit that I can use to make these easier to generate for my end users. aside : Are there other ways of representing transactional data that might be useful rather than the above method?   • How do you program a windows service in C# to start an application for a user?

    Is it possible to start a program so that it is available to a user with a windows service? I have been working with the Process.Start() in C#. I can get the service to kickoff some sort of process that appears in the Task Manager list under processes. However, the program nevers appears on the screen. By default, it runs under the user name "SYSTEM". I have adjusted the "Log On" option in the service manager to match the person logged into the computer, but this does not cause a window to appear either. I feel like I am either missing a simple setting, or need to take a different direction for this.   • How do I secure a .NET Web Service for use by an iPhone application?

    Hello, The title says it all, I have a Web Service written in .NET that provides data for an iPhone application. It will also allow the application make a "reservation." Currently it's all internal to the corporate network but obviously when the iPhone application is published I will need ensure the Web Service is available externally. How would I go about securing the Web Service? There are two aspects I'm looking into: Authentication for accessing the web service Protection for the data being transferred I'm no so bothered about the data being passed back and forth as it will be viewable in the application anyway (which will be free). The key issue for me is preventing users from accessing the Web Service and making reservations themselves. At the moment I am considering encrypting any strings in the XML data passed back and forth so only the client can effectively use the web service sidestepping the need for authentication and providing protection for the data. This is the only model I have seen but I think the overheads on the iPhone and even for the web service make for a poor user experience. Any solutions at all would be most welcome? Thanks

  • Cannot install windows service

    I have created a very simple window service using visual studio 2010 and .Net 4.0. This service has no functionality added from the default windows service project, other than an installer has been added. If i run installutil.exe appName.exe on my dev box or other windows 2008 R2 machines in our domain the windows service installs without issue. When i try to do this same thing on our customer site, it fails to install with the following error. Microsoft (R) .NET Framework Installation utility Version 4.0.30319.1 Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. Exception occurred while initializing the installation: System.IO.FileLoadException: Could not load file or assembly 'file:///C:\TestService\WindowsService1.exe' or one of its dependencies. Operation is not supported. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131515). This solution has only 1 project and no dependencies added. I have tried it on multiple machines in our environment and two in our customers. The machines are all windows 2008 R2, both fresh installs. One machine has just .net 2.0 and .net 4.0. The other .net 2, 3, 3.5 and 4. I am a local admin on each of the machines. I have also tried the 64bit installer but get the following error, so i think the 32 bit one is the one to use. System.BadImageFormatException Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.

    I want to make a Windows service that will access my database. My database is SQL Server 2005. Actually I am working on a website and my database is inside our server. I need to access my database every second and update the records. For that purpose I need to make a Windows service that will install into our server and perform the task. I have been accessing the database from my local machine and then running the service, but problem is I'm not sure how I can test this service. I tried to install into my local machine. It installed and then I ran the service but it did not perform the task and I think service is not able to connect with the database. There is no problem in the service nor its installer. The only issue is how to test my Windows service.

But I met too many problems in Linq for the Linq support of OData is so limited. I have to modify most of my Linq statements and test them thoroughly again. I am wondering whether there is a system way to solve such a problem instead of my manual work. For example, by an external package.
