• Ubuntu on Pandaboard giving me troubles

  I'm trying to install the OMAP4 extras for ubuntu on my pandaboard. For some reason, a few packages can't seem to be agree with eachother. This what I did so far: installed on Ubuntu 11.10 on sd card Powered on Pandaboard and let it finish it's initial install Did an "apt-get update" and "apt-get upgrade", to install updates So far, everything went fine, and I was quite happy with my Pandaboard, but then I made the mistake of typing this: apt-get install ubuntu-imap4-extras At first, everything seemed ok, and it started downloading and installing. But then after a while it just crashed. I tried it again but then it gave me this: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... • How to make the run button run the project, not the file, in Eclipse

  I'm using the Spring IDE, a variant of Eclipse to create a Java project. One big irritation I have is that when I press the run button Eclipse tries to run the current file, which usually fails because it doesn't have a main method. I've set up run configurations in the hope that would make the play button default to the run configuration instead of the current file, but that doesn't work either. Now to run my application correctly I have to press the little arrow next to play, select my favorite run configuration and then it works, this is only two extra clicks but it's tedious, the button is small and I feel like I shouldn't have to perform these extra steps. I mean what is the point of run configurations and projects if it still tries to run a file by default? Even more preferably I wouldn't even want to touch the mouse but just press Ctrl+F11, but this has the same behavior. All above applies to debugging as well btw. So my question is this: how do I make the run and debug buttons (and their short keys) default to the project's run configuration instead of to trying (and failing) to run only the current file? Much like it is in Visual Studio and other IDEs?

• In Search of Automatic ORM with REST interface

  I have this wish that so far Google hasn't been able to fulfill. I want to find a package (ideally in PHP, because I know PHP, but I guess that's not a hard requirement) that you point at a database, it builds an ORM based on what it finds there, and exposes a REST interface over the web. Everything I've found in my searches requires a bunch of code--like, it wants you to build the classes for it, but it'll handle the REST request routing. Or it does database and relational stuff just fine, but you have to build your own methods for all the CRUD actions. That's dumb. REST is well defined. If I wanted to re-invent the wheel, I totally could, but I don't want to. Isn't there somebody who's built a one-shot super-simple auto-RESTing web service package?

• Links won't open in Outlook

  About a week ago Chrome (my default browser) stopped working and I ended up reinstalling. After that, however, links in Outlook 2007, when clicked, no longer open. Instead, I get a warning that reads: General failure. The URL was: URL. Application not found. I presume that there is some MIME or file type association that needs to be configured at the OS level, but I've not had any luck so far. My operating system is Windows 7. Any ideas? EDIT #1 Wayne Johnston suggested I set Chrome as my default browser, but when I go to the Set Default Programs screen in Windows 7 (via Control Panel) I do not see Chrome in the list of programs. How do I get it to show up there?

• Configure Windows XP Embedded to automatically dismiss unexpected MessageBoxes

  I have the need to configure a Windows XP Embedded system in order to dismiss modal MessageBoxes with a default reply. I am aware of the EnableDefaultReply feature but I need to be more selective on which MessageBoxes to dismiss or select the default reply on some criteria (example: name of the window). My biggest problem right now is that: If do not enable the EnableDefaultReply feature: some background services pop up dialogboxes which are never dismissed and block the application If I enable the EnableDefaultReply feature: I am no longer able to logon to the system if another user is logged in (a MessageBox popups asking if you want to steal the logon and the default answer is NO). Do you have any experience you can share with this problem?

• Wine installation error Ubuntu 13.04 64 bit

  Wine fails to install correctly as there apparently are unresolved dependencies. Tried through the software center and terminal. Same problem. And I can't uninstall what's installed either. I've followed steps I've found in other threads here, but they don't seem to remedy the problem. I still can't install the package completely, yet it appears in the menu, nor can I uninstall it, because the package is reported as not installed. If anyone knows what to do, I'd appreciate any help. Thanks. :)

• Rhythmbox plugin radio-browser crashes

  I have just installed the plugins package from fossfreedom repository on my Rhythmbox 2.96 running on 12.04 (64 bit). The radio-browser plugin crashes Rhythmbox after a few seconds of playing. When I restarted Rhythmbox after the crash, the plugin was marked as "error" and it is impossible to reinstall it. I've then manually removed (sudo apt-get remove ...) and reinstalled it but still I can't enable it. Unfortunately, radio-browser was the reason for me to install the plugin package, and I can't use it... Help please?

  I'm trying to set a DHCP server on 12.04. I installed: sudo apt-get install isc-dhcp-server My configuration files look like this: /etc/default/isc-dhcp-server INTERFACES="eth0" /etc/network/interfaces auto lo iface lo inet loopback /etc/dhcp/dhcpd.conf ddns-update-style none; default-lease-time 600; max-lease-time 7200; authoritative; log-facility local7; subnet 192.168.1.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 { range 192.168.1.235 192.168.1.240; option subnet-mask 255.255.255.0; option broadcast-address 192.168.1.255; option routers 192.168.1.1; default-lease-time 100000; max-lease-time 100000; } When I run sudo service isc-dhcp-server restart I get: stop: Unknown instance: isc-dhcp-server start/running, process 15384 After this if I run sudo service isc-dhcp-server status it shows that its stopped: isc-dhcp-server stop/waiting What am I doing wrong here?

• Design of input files reading when it comes to defaults/transformations

  Suppose you have an application that reads an input file, on a language that does not support the concept of None. The input is read, parsed, and the contents are stored on a structure for later use. Now, in general you want to keep into account transformation of the data from the input, such as adding default values when not specified, or adding full path information to relative path specified in the input. There are two different strategies to achieve this. The first strategy is to perform these transformations at input file reading time. In practice, you put all the intelligence into the input parser, and your application has no logic to deal with unexpected circumstances, such as an unspecified value. You lose the information of what was specified and what wasn't, but you gain in black-boxing the details. Your "running code" needs that information in any case and in a proper form, and is not concerned if it's the default or a user-specified information. The second strategy is to have the file reader a real one-to-one mapper from the file to a memory-stored object, with no intelligent behavior. unspecified values are not filled (which may however be a problem in languages not supporting None) and data is stored verbatim from the file. The intelligence for recovery must now go into the "running code", which must check what was specified in the file, eventually fall back to a default, or modify the input properly before using it. I would like to know your opinion on these two approaches, and in particular which one you found the most frequently implemented.

  I noticed that the perl version (5.14) shipped with 12.10 does not include the Switch.pm module needed while building WebKiT-GTK. Looking around on the internet I found few suggestions indicating that I should install something call p5-switch from ports. I have looked around and was not able to get this done. I am not a perl guy and have no idea where i can get this package. Can someone please help me as to Where to download the package for ubuntu 12.10 In case it is not a .deb, How do i install it.

  I've been searching online and reading tutorials and etc about how to make my ubuntu VM dual screen(x86_64). • How to get exfat working in Ubuntu 13.10?

  In Ubuntu 13.04 there was an option to use the PPA by Relan in order to get ExFat functionality. Seeing that in Ubuntu 13.10 this functionality is available from the repositories without the PPA I tried this but failed to make it work. Trying the PPA in Ubuntu 13.10 does not yield results either, as it complains about missing the fuse-utils package. This package seems to have been removed (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/saucy/amd64/fuse-utils). So my question is, did the process of using ExFat change since the jump from Ubuntu 13.04 to 13.10 and how do I enable it?   As most of us already know JustMock got  a free edition. The free edition is not a stripped down of the features of the full edition but I would rather say its a strip down of the type you can mock. Technically, free version runs on  proxy as full version runs on proxy + profiler. In full version, It switches to profiler when you are mocking final methods or sealed class or anything else that can not be done using inheritance. Like in full version you can mock non public methods , in free version you can still do it but it has to be virtual for protected or must be done through InternalsVisibleTo attribute for internal virtual methods (If you have access to the source and can apply the attribute). Now, you can get a copy of free edition from the product page. Install it and off you go. But it is also exposed to NuGet. Those of you are not familiar with NuGet (that will be odd). But still NuGet is the centralized package manager from Microsoft that cuts the workflow of manual inclusion of  libraries in your project. I think NuGet in future will limit the scope of  “.vsi” packages and installers because of its ease (except in some cases). Its similar to ruby gems. In ruby, virtually you can install any library in this way “gems  install <target_library>” and you are off to go. It will check the dependencies, install them or less prompt with the steps you need to do.   Now sticking to the post, to get started you first need to install NuGet package manager. Once you have completed the step pressing “Ctrl + W, Ctrl + Z” it will bring up an console like one below:   Once you are here, you just have to type “install-package justmock” Next, it will should print the confirmation when the installation is complete: Moving to visual studio solution explorer, you will now see:   Finally, NuGet is still in its early ages and steps that are shown here may not remain the same in coming releases, but feel free to enjoy what is out there right now. • I'm not sure if this is a valid Ubuntu bug to file

  I was in the process of filing an bug on Launchpad, but I had second thoughts because there were so many threatening warnings of the effect, "Don't file a bug report unless you're sure it's a bug, and you should really provide a package name". The problem I have, and I've had it for years, is the following: When I'm installing Ubuntu, it asks me to type in my location before it asks me what my keyboard layout is. Using a QWERTY keyboard but with the buttons popped of and in the Dvorak order, this is annoying, because it is assumes I am using a QWERTY keyboard, and so I have to guess at where all the QWERTY keys are to spell my city's name. It seems like it would make more sense to switch the order of these two questions. (I'll be the first person to admit that this is a very minor problem that has probably wasted less than 2 minutes of my life in total -- but it's the principle of the thing :p) So my question is: is this order there for a particular reason, and if it isn't, is it appropriate to file it as a bug, and under which package name?

• How can we control the device driver load order in Windows XP ?

  We are trying to install both an HP scanner and a Kodak scanner on an XP machine and the problem is that that HP's scanner driver always places itself into the first and default scanner device position. We are using an automation software on that machine which must use the Kodak scanner as the default scanner. The HP flatbed isn't needed to be the default scanner on that machine. It will always be used manually and through its own software. Our developers did some research 2 years ago couldn't find a solution. Nowadays we are preparing to expand our user base and this problem did surface again on machines with the same configuration. I did a more aggresive search pn the net and found some tips like this one : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/115486 I couldn't realize how to suit this solution to my scenario. Could someone please point me to the right direction ?

• Can't untar Testdisk 6.14 using live CD

  I'm using an Ubuntu LiveCD right now and need to recover files from a (Windows 7) partition. I've read about TestDisk and tried downloading it and untaring it but: testdisk-6.14-WIP.linux26.tar.bz2: Cannot open: No such file or directory tar (child): Error is not recoverable: exiting now tar: Child returned status 2 tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now I don't know why it doesn't work (noob). I want to start Chrome in incognito mode by default. I know that I need to use the following command to start the Chrome in incognito mode by default. • how to remove update repo that always fails

  A week or so ago I tried to add a new package repo that supposedly had a package I wanted. Unfortunately, the information about it was out of date, and I found that it fails to connect to it each time. I'd like to just remove the new repo, but I'm not sure how to do that. • Fedora login gone after Ubuntu updates on a dual boot

  After a software update for Ubuntu, my dual boot with Fedora will not show Fedora in the start menu. It just boots into Ubuntu and when I hold Shift and boot, it only has Ubuntu in the list. I have tried the post about installing grub-customizer but when I run that, I get Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: Unable to locate package grub-customizer I cannot find any other way to fix this problem. I am a complete newbie to Linux.
