  • Missing computer?

    I'm trying to find a computer at work that we can't find the physical location of. There's no documentation in the inventory of it but it responds to nslookup, ping, and i can log onto it and edit it's files. However, we have no idea where in the building it is. Anyone have any good ideas for finding it outside of making it beep repetitively and annoying people while i run around looking for it?

  • Trouble with Debian Lenny and Sphinx

    I've very basic understanding of linux systems, but I've a server which was setup a while ago to host some web apps. Recently I decided to test out and implement Sphinx but unfortunately I cant get the install to work. I'm running a Debian Lenny distro and when I try to install sphinx it says - checking MySQL include files... configure: error: missing include files. ****************************************************************************** ERROR: cannot find MySQL include files. Check that you do have MySQL include files installed. The package name is typically 'mysql-devel'. If include files are installed on your system, but you are still getting this message, you should do one of the following: 1) either specify includes location explicitly, using --with-mysql-includes; 2) or specify MySQL installation root location explicitly, using --with-mysql; 3) or make sure that the path to 'mysql_config' program is listed in your PATH environment variable.     I have the keyword bookmark it's the same location as another one with a different keyword which works. I type google test and it takes me to http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=test, but I type g test and it takes me to the first result from I'm feeling luck as if there were no bookmark keyword there at all.   • Desktop icons and taskbar not shown in Windows XP

    Hi, I am not able see any desktop icons, taskbar in my Windows XP system. Also none of the keyboard shortcuts like Win Key + R, Win Key + E are not working. Yesterday I installed AVG 9.0 in my machine and was working fine. But today when I started the system an svchost error occured saying "the memory at location could not be written".     On my work PC, Firefox stores a 10 MB file called places.sqlite in my roaming profile: C:\Users\MY_USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\PROFILE_ID\places.sqlite I don't use any location-related features in Firefox, and this file causes my roaming profile to be larger than my company allows (25 MB), meaning I get warnings about my profile size every day. Can I stop Firefox storing this file in my roaming profile?

    We are working to get a large (inherited) VMware ESX 3.5 environment with multiple SANs under control. We first need to create a diagram / Excel spreadsheet / whatever that explains what VM is stored where. This is a rather time-consuming task to complete by just using the VI client to copy down everything. Is there a good script or tool out there that can do this for us? I would like to see: VM Name, LUN, Actual file-name/location of VMDK/VMX, Power State, Host Any ideas?

  • phpMyAdmin causes php-fpm worker to restart (502 Bad Gateway)

    I am trying to set up a test site for myself. Everything works fine except phpMyAdmin. php installation loads my test site scripts, they work fine, however trying to load phpMyAdmin i get 502 Bad Gateway error. Judging from logs (that are not too helpful) it seems that php-fpm worker is crashing each time phpmyadmin is being accessed. No clue how or why..   • Recommendations on managing dot files for users using Puppet

    Goal is to have a collection of dot files (.bashrc, .vimrc, etc.) in a central location. Once it's there, Puppet should push out the files to all managed servers. I initially was thinking of giving users FTP access where they could upload their dot files and then having an rsync cron job. However, it might not be the most elegant or robust solution. Wanted to see if anyone else had some recommendations.

    I'm using HAProxy as a load balancer and i'd like to redirect any traffic that comes in on 443 (HTTPS) to 80 (HTTP). My site doesn't support HTTPS at all and i'd rather just redirect users than cause any SSL warnings in browsers. All I can find is using the redirect location <to> syntax, but as far as I can tell that requires me to hard code the hostname. The load balancer receives connections for various hostnames so would like to keep it relative.

    I am setting up nginx as a reverse proxy. The server runs on directadmin and lamp stack. I have nginx running on port 81. I can access all my sites (including virtual ips) on the port 81. What is odd is that I have another domain that has the same DNS servers, which points to the same server regardless of your location (which is the way it's mean't to work).     I see the option in Visio 2003 to only trust macros stored in trusted locations, but I can't find any way to set up what these trusted locations are. My problem is I have a template file that's not signed in the VBA project but the VBA project is locked (so I can't just sign it myself). So, there are only two ways I can stop the warning: lower my security settings so anything with macros will run (not a good idea) Tell Visio that the template is in a trusted location (if this is even possible)

    Hello @all, i try to check how much traffic flows between MSSQL Server and IIS Server in different Locations. There are 1 ipcop in every Location and i download the tcpdump file from one Firewall and search for DST=ipmssql and SRC=ipIIS but i did not find the ip from the Database Server. But there are traffic between both. Any suggestions why i did not find the IP Adress from the MSSQL Server? Is this an configuration failure in IPCop or is the Traffic between ISS and MSSQL so strange :-) Regards Rene

    Hi I am a newbie on nginx, I tried to set it up on my server(running Ubuntu 4), which already has apache running. So after I apt-get install it, I tried to start nginx. Then I get the message like this: Starting nginx: the configuration file /etc/nginx/nginx.conf syntax is ok configuration file /etc/nginx/nginx.conf test is successful [emerg]: bind() to 0.0.0.0:80 failed (98: Address already in use) [emerg]: bind() to 0.0.0.0:80 failed (98: Address already in use) [emerg]: bind() to 0.0.0.0:80 failed (98: Address already in use) [emerg]: bind() to 0.0.0.0:80 failed (98: Address already in use) [emerg]: bind() to 0.0.0.0:80 failed (98: Address already in use) That makes sense as Apache is using port 80. Then I tried to modify nginx.conf, I reference some articles, so I changed it like so: server { listen 8080; location / { proxy_pass http://94.143.9.34:9500; proxy_set_header Host $host:8080; proxy_set_header X-Real-IP $remote_addr; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for; proxy_set_header Via "nginx"; } After saving this and try to start nginx again, I still get the same error as previously. I cannot really find a related post about this, could any good people shred some light?   • Forgotten account password

    I kept my passwords recorded but the location on my PC where I kept this went missing. I now can't get into Windows Server 2008 R2 as I can't remember the administrator or named account credentials and have no password reset disk. This is on a VM (VM Player - which btw is temp till I get Hyper-V). How can I get back in? If I make AD can I join the server to AD and then set a domain account?

  • Snow Leopard and a Windows network

    I have just added a MBP to my home network and while I can connect to the internet etc, i cannot browse my home networked computers. I have already added a new location in my Network preferences yet when I goto the WINS tab, there is no dropdown to select my workgroup so i manually enter it. From what I have read, once I go to the finder and open the network, i should see the workgroup and systems...yet i do not. Any suggestions? Thanks.

  • Ruler to measure in browser (firefox)

    I'm looking for a good ruler to use to measure distances in a browser. I use Firefox. Any good suggestions that are currently being used by other developers. I have firebug, but I don't think it has a ruler. Does it? I would think a ruler would have made it to firebug, but there doesn't seem to be one, or I'm not looking in the right location. Thanks
