• Remote Desktop Solution without VPN, with locked PC

  Sometimes I work from home and I use either of these 2 methods: Teamviewer VPN + Remote desktop When I connect with VPN I am however unable to browse any websites on my own computer, which can be very inconvenient when I am basically waiting an hour for somebody else to finish his job to do a 5 minute job. It would be nice if I could still continue browsing. A solution for this is Teamviewer. With Teamviewer I can manage the other computer, without suffering the restrictions of using the VPN. Everybody in the working area however, can see me using my computer remotely and this is not a good situation either, especially during work hours. I would like a solution that allows me to continue browsing normally and still control my remote workstation, without other people seeing every move I make on the workstation.

• Disabling mouse acceleration in X.Org (Linux)

  This is the Linux version of my Disabling mouse acceleration in Mac OS X question. Hopefully I'll get an answer this time. I am tired of mouse acceleration and want to have a completely linear mouse response. This is easily achievable through any of the 5 or so methods (some subtly implied) on the X.Org wiki page on pointer acceleration. However, they also disable velocity scaling. I don't want a 1:1 mapping between device and screen coordinates. I want a 1:N mapping where N is a constant. Any ideas?

• Can't access the Internet in VMware Workstation

  I'm using VMware 7.1.2 in Windows 7 with Ubuntu 11.04 as a guest OS. In the host OS (Windows 7), I can access the Internet without any problems but in the virtual machine I can't access the Internet. I've tried the following but with no success: Use all methods of connecting to the Internet in "Virtual Machine Settings": Bridged, NAT, Custom; none work. Used cabled and wireless connections on the PC - neither of them work. I've used Ubuntu in VMware for several months - previously the Internet was always accessible. Could the cause of this be because I upgraded to Ubuntu 11.04?

• systemctl (Fedora 17) and interacting spawned processes's consoles

  Introduction I've recently upgraded to Fedora 17 and I'm getting used to the newer systemctl daemon manager versus shell init scripts. A feature I need on some of my daemons is the ability to interact with their consoles because unclean shutdowns not initiated by the process itself can cause database corruption. So, performing a systemctl stop service-name.service for example might cause irreversible data loss. These consoles read user input through stdin or similar methods, so what I've been doing on my old OS is to place those daemons foregrounded in a screen session, and I suspended that screen session with ^A ^z. It's also worth noting that I've now made systemctl do this automatically if the computer reboots, but it still doesn't solve my potential data corruption problem I'm trying to avoid. My Question Is there a way to use systemctl in order to directly interact with the console of processes it spawns? Can I hook a process through systemctl to get access to its console? • How do I install a language pack in Windows 7 Home Premium?

  Specifically, I want Korean (link), but I hope this helps other people in general. According to this page, it is only possible for Ultimate and Enterprise. Specifically, I'd like to enable my keyboard to type in Korean, and I specified Korean as the input language (Start - type "Input Languages", only result). Under the General tab, I selected Add, and specified Korean.. but it doesn't work, because the language pack isn't installed I presume. Would anyone know how to add different language input / packs to Windows 7 Home Premium? Also, I tried following this tutorial on adding a language pack to HP, but the .cab keeps disappearing so it will not work. Note: Unlike the link in the tutorial as well, I do not have an option to change the display language of Windows, only the option to change input methods.

• Programmatically change height of the window more than the height of the screen in Mac OS X

  Respected low-level users of Mac OS, please, help. I'm trying programmatically to change height of window of safari (or other window). I'm was trying used AppleScript and AXUIElementSetAttributeValue of Carbon, but none of these methods can't increase the window bigger than the height of the screen. But, the width changes without any problems. I guess I'd be starting with something like SetWindowPos with SWP_NOSENDCHANGING flag under Win32. Maybe, you can disable this functionality, which monitors the size of the window or completely shutdown the one who is responsible for it? Note that I want to do this programmatically from an external process - I'm not asking how to control just my own app's window size and position. Thanks.

• Image an entire computer

  I want to start doing a computer repair. I know that some issues may arise (what if I do something wrong and ruin the entire computer?). I'm not saying I'm not confident in my work, but accidents do happen sometimes. Now, the best solution this problem would be to simply just backup their entire computer and restore it if anything goes wrong. If I have an external HD, are there any available methods to create an entire image for the computer so no matter what I do, I can just reload it's last state?

• How to verify if my copy operation is complete in Windows 7?

  Yesterday, I was leaving some job of copying a directory to run overnight. This morning however, I found the computer had restarted because of Windows Update or something. I was wondering if there is some way to check if the copy is complete? One way I guess would be check the last modified time of the copy, and when the system restarted. But I was wondering where to find the time when the system restarted? I was also wondering if where to find some logging files that have the records. I know Event Viewer, but don't know where to find within it. Other methods are welcome too. I also would like to hear suggestions for other ways to accomplish the copy instead of just simple copy and paste. Thanks and regards!

• Taskbar Disappears Over Remote Desktop Connection When Outside Local Network

  I've got a machine on my home network running Windows Server 2012 (Based on Win8) and rather than attach a monitor I remote desktop in and it works fine on my local network. The problem is, when I try to access it from outside my local network the taskbar disappears completely. When I minimize an application rather than minimize to the taskbar it simply closes the window as small as it can as if the taskbar never existed (see photos at ). I've messed with the connection properties (show/hide desktop background, etc.) with no luck. I've used the following methods to remote in and they all are fine when on the local network and taskbar-less from outside: Remote Desktop Connection on Mac Remote Desktop Connection on Windows Jump Desktop on iOS using RDP To access the computer from outside my local network I'm using a Linksys router and mapping to the server IP, port 3389. • Nginx load distribution and multi-domain SSL

  I'm researching into the best methods of two new parts of our infrastructure, hopefully finding a single solution for both. 1) We're currently running a single application server, and we're going to be adding an additional application server and load balance between the two. 2) We handle a few thousand domains across the application server(s), and we're looking to support SSL. The best method i've come across so far is using nginx for it's Load Distribution to serve the requests to the application servers, and for it's SSL support. If a request is using SSL, nginx accepts the request on, terminates SSL and pipes to apache (app servers). Now, that's all good, but i'm yet to figure out how we can let nginx handle multiple domains using SSL. We're potentially looking at using UCC SSL Certs, so we can support 150 domains on a single certificate, with each cert on a single IP. I'm all new to this (My experience is just with physical load balancers and a single domains on SSL), so any advice would be very much appreciated.

  I have a request from our legal team to search a users' mailbox. the mailbox is 15gig and it is on exchange 2003. I am trying to run windows desktop search and google desktop. I have gotten them to index mailbox but getting the results into a folder to backup on cd is getting bit difficult. Windows desktop search and google desktop search does not allow you to copy results to another folder. Can anyone point me to right direction? What is the best way to index and copy the results of pst, mailbox or edb file? What is the best discovery methods? Thanks

• Can't access server from external IP

  I have a problem with my web server; I can't access it from the external IP address. I'm using an IIS 7 server, but I've tried with apache on Linux as well. I have forwarded all traffic on port 80 to my computer, but it just won't work. I've done port forwarding with my Minecraft server, and it did work, but when I try it with a web server, no. I've been looking on many many forums, but their methods don't work for me. My router is a Speedport W 723V, if anyone knows that one. Any help is appreciated.

Take into account that in each of these servers there are completely different configurations, while the application is the same. What is the best way to do this?   I'm in charge of a deployment of Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2012 R2. Currently, I'm working through the discovery methods and trying to decide how to enable automatic discovery of systems and users. On Microsoft's documentation, they warn that Configuration Manager Automatic Discovery traffic can get pretty significant if you aren't careful in your implementation.   Possible Duplicate: Securely erasing all data from a hard drive In my personal collection are an increasing number of relatively new drives, only put on the shelf due to upgrades; in the past I have never sold hard drives with used machines for fear of having the encrypted password databases that have been stored on them compromised, but as their numbers increase I find myself more tempted to do so (due to the $$$ I know they're worth on the used market). What tools then exist to make the recovery of data from said drives difficult to the extent that selling them could be justified? Another way of saying this would be: what tools/method exist for making the attempts at recovery of any data previously stored on a certain drive impractical? I assume that it is always possible to recover data from a drive that is in working order. I assume also there are some methods for preventing recovery of data due a program called dban, and one particular feature in macOSX that deals with permanently deleting data from a disk.

• De-duplicate Firefox bookmarks

  What methods exist to de-duplicate Firefox bookmarks. As I search Google I find that there previously was a plugin called CheckPlaces, but that no longer seems to exist. Another popular suggestion seems to be AM-DeadLink, which I tried, but it completely trashed my bookmarks. (Fortunately I had a backup first, and yes I had closed Firefox first as instructed). I was trying to move all my youtube.com bookmarks into a folder. I tried doing a search, and then dragging the bookmarks into the folder. Apparently this creates a copy, instead of moving them as I expected. So now I have 3 of everything since I had tried a couple times.

• two shops network

  okay so, I just opened up two shops in my hometown. The two stores is about 6 blocks apart, connecting them by wire is not really feasible in cost wise. What kind of network topology should I use for my small shops, there will be 5 computers, one is the sales computer ,another 4 as mentioned is the guest computer. I want the sales and guest computers network to be seperated. Both shops have same computers. The guest computers serves up simple website that has my shop catalog on it, I'm thinking of using a web server. So, how am i suppose to setup these networks, im planning to add in more computers in the future. Is it I need to station a single server at a shop, and all the computer connected to it? or is there any more effective methods? I'm no networking expert, would love to hear some advice.

  In Windows, a single right click (i.e., with release) displays a context menu on the screen, allowing you to select the appropriate choice with a further click from either button. In Mint 13, Cinnamon, it's hold down the right button, drag, then release on the appropriate menu choice. Both methods are fine, but constantly using both OSs regularly, I'm doing the Windows procedure in Mint by mistake all the time. This makes the single right click and release bring up the context menu and immediately action the first menu choice. Is there any mechanism to ignore right-button-up if a substantial dragging action or time period hasn't occurred, and have Mint looking for a further click to select?

  at my 450gb fat32 partition, a directory has a wrong content after improper usb drive disconnect; was: /files (total 250gb) /files/folder/ /files/folder2/ /files/somethn.gs Now: /files/weir?d?name, 5 mb Windows and Linux are saying that most (400 of 450gb) disk space is occupied, but sum of all files/dirs is about 130gb, so it seems that files are still there?. No write attempts since discovery; Rejected tools/methods: chkdsk(Windows7): checking completed, but no changes. fsck.vfat: attempted to ruin drive even more (there is a lot of LFN and unicode names). EasyRecovery. Didn't see the target folder (maybe wrong scan options? tried best match, but not raw scan - it would take days since the drive is usb 5200 rpm..).

• Automatically make user local administrator on their computer through GPO?

  In our AD 2003 domain each user gets local admin permissions on their computer. Everyone else can login with their domain account as normal user. Right now this means going to the desktop and manually adding the user as a local administrator. Is there any way to automate this process through logon scripts or GPOs? I have found ways to use a gpo to make everyone who logs in to a computer a local admin, but really only want to give it to the primary user (or in some cases users) of the computer. I've also seen methods that required adding a group for each computer...but really dont want to clutter AD like that. I do have a list mapping each user to each computer name. If it matters the desktops are a mix of xp and win7.

• How can I move a window that cannot be moved by mouse?

  I have downloaded a version of Finale Notepad on Windows 7. When I first used it it functioned perfectly. Every time I opened it a popup asking me about downloading a different version would show up that I could just click out of. When the pop up appeared I was unable to quit out of the window or move it at all, but it posed no issue. Apparently, though, the last time I quit out of the program, the screen must have been dragged down below my taskbar. Now, I am unable to quit out of the popup when I reopen the program, meaning I can't access it at all. I tried restarting my computer, uninstalling the program, downloading different versions of the program, and even using alternate methods of moving it, such as Alt+Tab, but nothing works.

  My right hand is temporarily immobilized. I would like to do some minor work in Emacs, mostly in Org-mode, but also some in AUCTeX. Is there some way to ease one-handed work in Emacs such as some mode or particular work flow? For instance I noticed pressing C-x u is easier than C-_ for undoing and that it is easier to mark text with methods involving C-Space than with combinations of S- and movement commands. I want to ease whatever little time spent one-handed in Emacs and this is also interesting for situations where there is no injury involved, such as when one hand is occupied.   I typically require multiple SharePoint virtual machines for development purposes. I currently manually build these every time I need one, either starting from a fresh OS install or using sysprep when working with SharePoint 2010 and SQL Server 2008 R2. I currently use VMWare, but am open to VirtualBox or Hyper-V. I'd like to be able to go from zero to a working VM with SharePoint, SQL and Visual Studio all through script. Is this a feasible task? Or are there more practical methods which would start from a VM with a fresh installation of an OS, and then use more standard unattended installs.   When running commands as other users from the command line, what is recommended best practice? In the past I've used sudo like so: sudo -u username command [args] I've been told (with no specific reasons why) that using sudo for this purpose is wrong. I'd like to know why. Is there some "best way" to accomplish this? For example, I've also used the su command like so: su username - -c "command [args]" I can't imagine why either of these methods would be "bad". Your thoughts?
