• Java, LDAP: Make it not ignore blank passwords?

  I'm maintaining some legacy Java LDAP code. I know next to nothing about LDAP. The program below basically just sends the userid and password to the LDAP server, receives notification back if the credentials are good. If so, it prints out the LDAP attributes received from the LDAP server, if not it prints out an exception. All works well if a bad password is given. An "invalid credentials" exception gets thrown. However, if a blank password is sent to the LDAP Server, authentication will still happen, LDAP attributes will still be returned. Is this unhappy situation due to the LDAP server allowing blank passwords, or does the code below need to be adjusted such a blank password will get fed to the LDAP server in such a way so it will get rejected? I do have data validation in place. I took it off in a testing environment to solve another issue and noticed this problem. I would prefer not to have this problem underneath the data validation. • Dynamically alter outter div as inner one gets bigger.

  I have two divs, one inside another. The outter one is called #wrapper, while the inner one is called #pad. Now #pad allows user input, and I have a javascript (jQuery) function that changes the content of #pad based on what the user input is. Sometimes, because of this function, #pad's content will cause the div to become more elongated than before. Now obviously I would wish for #wrapper to grow longer as well to accommodate this change in #pad's length. • Can i create different observables and different corresponding observers in java?

  Hello everyone, Currently, I have one observable and many observers. What i need is different observables, and depending on the observable, different observers. How do I achieve this? ( For understanding, assume I have different apples - say apple1 apple2... I have observer_1 observing apple1, observer_2 observing apple2, observer_3 observing apple 2 and so on..). I tried creating different objects of the Observable class, but since observers are observing the same class of observable, I don't know how to access a particular instance of the Observable. • Generating 2-dimensional vla ends in segmentation fault

  Hi, further developing the code from yesterday (seg fault caused by malloc and sscanf in a function), I tried with the help of some tutorials I found on the net to generate a 2-dim vla. But I get a segmentation fault at (*data)[i][j]=atof(p);.   Hi there. I've been following a tutorial and a sample application, namely 5 Days of Wicket - Writing the tests: http://www.mysticcoders.com/blog/2009/03/10/5-days-of-wicket-writing-the-tests/ I've set up my own little project with a simple shoutbox that saves messages to a database. I then wanted to set up a couple of tests that would make sure that if a message is stored in the database, the retrieved object would contain the exact same data. Upon running mvn test all my tests fail. The exception has been pasted in the first code box underneath. I've noticed that even though my unitils.properties says to use the 'hdqldb'-dialect, this message is still output in the console window when starting the tests: INFO - Dialect - Using dialect: org.hibernate.dialect.PostgreSQLDialect. I've added the entire dump from the console as well at the bottom of this post (which goes on for miles and miles :-)). • Accessing UIPopoverController for UIActionSheet on iPad

  On the iPad, one can show a UIActionSheet using -showFromBarButtonItem:animated:. This is convenient because it wraps a UIPopoverController around the action sheet and it points the popover's arrow to the UIBarButtonItem that is passed in. However, this call adds the UIBarButtomItem's toolbar to the list of passthrough views - which isn't always desirable. And, without a pointer to the UIPopoverController, one can't add other views to the passthrough list. Does anyone know of a sanctioned approach to getting a pointer to the popover controller? • Landscape orientation for UITabBarController?

  The UITabBarController does not allow landscape orientation. So I used a subclass of UITabBarContoller (called RotatingTabBarController). Its sole purpose it to allow rotation by returning YES to shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation call. The problem is that when you rotate the iPhone in simulator it gives the following malloc error. malloc: *** error for object 0x3888000: pointer being freed was not allocated *** set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug I am using 3.0 SDK with Xcode 3.2 on Snow Leopard. I set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break but I can not trace it back to my code. Is there something I can do to make this error go away? • How should I pass an object wrapping an API to a class using that API?

  Hello everyone :) This is a revised/better written version of the question I asked earlier today -- that question is deleted now. I have a project where I'm getting started with Google Mock. I have created a class, and that class calls functions whithin the Windows API. I've also created a wrapper class with virtual functions wrapping the Windows API, as described in the Google Mock CheatSheet. I'm confused however at how I should pass the wrapper into my class that uses that object. Obviously that object needs to be polymorphic, so I can't pass it by value, forcing me to pass a pointer. That in and of itself is not a problem, but I'm confused as to who should own the pointer to the class wrapping the API. So... how should I pass the wrapper class into the real class to facilitate mocking?

  This can be a very simple question, I'm am attempting to debug an application which generates the following segfault error in the kern.log /var/log/kern.log.0:Jan 8 13:25:56 myhost kernel: myapp[15514]: segfault at 794ef0 ip 080513b sp 794ef0 error 6 in myapp[8048000+24000] Here are my questions: 1) Is there any documentation as to what are the diff error numbers on segfault, in this instance it is error 6, but i've seen error 4, 5 2) What is the meaning of the information at bf794ef0 ip 0805130b sp bf794ef0 and myapp[8048000+24000]? So far i was able to compile with symbols, and when i do a "x 0x8048000+24000" it returns a symbol, is that the correct way of doing it? My assumptions thus far are the following: sp = stack pointer? ip = instruction pointer at = ???? myapp[8048000+24000] = address of symbol?

We both have a set of keyboards, mice, and we have two monitors, which works well for switching who's the driver really easy, but there are some points in the session that I would like to start writing tests at the same time that my pair is writing implementation. I am wondering if there is any program that would allow me to have effectively two cursors and keyboard focuses on the same computer. If they don't exist then I am willing to experiment with my own solution, but I would like input as to how to best accomplish this. I am most familiar with .Net 3.5 technologies, but I also know Java and am willing to learn C++ to solve this problem. If I was creating the solution myself I would go down the road of being able to grab the input of one hardware device (i.e. a specific mouse that's installed) and prevent Windows from moving the pointer, and instead move my own programs pointer independently.

  I have a number of links which I would like to get some information by using ajax calls and display the information as tooltip. I have bind the function that make the ajax call with the event on mouseover of the link something like: $('#div a').bind('mouseover', function () { //sending the ajax call } everything looks/work fine except, when the user unintentionally move the mouse pointer over all the links, I saw that there are many ajax calls. so my question how can I prevent the ajax call unless the users hover the mouse pointer on the link for at least 3 or 4 seconds first.

• How to make tooltip move with mouse (winforms)

  I want it to move when the mouse moves, and disappear when the pointer isn't over the label.   Hey, I have a program that needs to tell if an online image exists, but the only way that I've gotten this to work is by loading the image in a NSData pointer and checking if the pointer exists. - (BOOL)exists { NSString *filePath = @"http://couleeapps.hostei.com/BottomBox.png"; NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:filePath]; NSData *imageData = [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:url]; if (imageData) { return YES; } return NO; } This has worked for me, but my problem is that I have a very slow connection, and it takes forever to download the image. So my question is: is there a way to check if a image (say "http://couleeapps.hostei.com/BottomBox.png") is available without having to download it? Help is much appreciated HiGuy

• A function's static and dynamic parent

  I'm reading Thinking in C++ (vol. 2): Whenever a function is called, information about that function is pushed onto the runtime stack in an activation record instance (ARI), also called a stack frame. A typical stack frame contains (1) the address of the calling function (so execution can return to it), (2) a pointer to the ARI of the function’s static parent (the scope that lexically contains the called function, so variables global to the function can be accessed), and (3) a pointer to the function that called it (its dynamic parent). The path that logically results from repetitively following the dynamic parent links is the dynamic chain, or call chain I'm unable to comprehend what the author means as function's static and dynamic parent. Also am not able to differentiate between item 1, 2 or 3. They all seem to be the same. Can someone please explain this passage to me?

• Stack / base pointers in assembly

  I know this topic has been covered ad-naseum here, and other places on the internet - but hopefully the question is a simple one as I try to get my head around assembly... So if i understand correctly the ebp (base pointer) will point to the top of the stack, and the esp (stack pointer) will point to the bottom -- since the stack grows downward. esp therefore points to the 'current location'. So on a function call, once you've saved the ebp on the stack you insert a new stack frame - for the function. So in the case of the image below, if you started from N-3 you would go to N-2 with a function call. But when you are at N-2 - is your ebp == 25 and the esp == 24 (at least initially, before any data is placed on the stack)? Is this correct or am I of on a tangent here? Thanks!

  Some file read (readlines()) functions in Python copy the file contents to memory (as a list) I need to process a file that's too large to be copied in memory and as such need to use a file pointer (to access the file one byte at a time) -- as in C getc(). The additional requirement I have is that I'd like to rewind the file pointer to previous bytes like in C ungetc(). Is there a way to do this in Python? Also, in Python, I can read one line at a time with readline() Is there a way to read the previous line going backward?

• PyOpenGL: glVertexPointer() offset problem

  My vertices are interleaved in a numpy array (dtype = float32) like this: ... tu, tv, nx, ny, nz, vx, vy, vz, ... When rendering, I'm calling gl*Pointer() like this (I have enabled the arrays before): stride = (2 + 3 + 3) * 4 glTexCoordPointer( 2, GL_FLOAT, stride, self.vertArray ) glNormalPointer( GL_FLOAT, stride, self.vertArray + 2 ) glVertexPointer( 3, GL_FLOAT, stride, self.vertArray + 5 ) glDrawElements( GL_TRIANGLES, len( self.indices ), GL_UNSIGNED_SHORT, self.indices ) The result is that nothing renders. However, if I organize my array so that the vertex position is the first element ( ... vx, vy, vz, tu, tv, nx, ny, nz, ... ) I get correct positions for vertices while rendering but texture coords and normals aren't rendered correctly. This leads me to believe that I'm not setting the pointer offset right. How should I set it? I'm using almost the exact same code in my other app in C++ and it works.

• ubuntu: sem_timedwait not waking (C)

  I have 3 processes which need to be synchronized. Process one does something then wakes process two and sleeps, which does something then wakes process three and sleeps, which does something and wakes process one and sleeps. The whole loop is timed to run around 25hz (caused by an external sync into process one before it triggers process two in my "real" application). I use sem_post to trigger (wake) each process, and sem_timedwait() to wait for the trigger. This all works successfully for several hours. However at some random time (usually after somewhere between two and four hours), one of the processes starts timing out in sem_timedwait(), even though I am sure the semaphore is being triggered with sem_post(). To prove this I even use sem_getvalue() immediately after the timeout, and the value is 1, so the timedwait should have been triggered. I can see from the output that the semaphore is being triggered, and when I print the value after the timeout is is 1. So sem_timedwait should have woken up well before the timeout. I would never expect the value of the semaphore to be 1 after the timeout, save for the very rare occasion (almost certainly never but it's possible) when the trigger happens after the timeout but before I call sem_getvalue. Also, once it begins to fail, every sem_timedwait() on that semaphore also fails in the same way. [...] On line 1, thread 3 (which I have confusingly called sem1 in the printf) waits for sem3 to be triggered. On line 5, sem2 calls sem_post for sem3. However, line 8 shows sem3 timing out, but the value of the semaphore is 1. thread3 then triggers sem1 and waits again (10). However, because the value is already 1, it wakes straight away. It doesn't send sem1 again as this has all happened before control is given to thread1, however it then waits again (val is now 0) and sem1 wakes up. This now repeats for ever, sem3 always timing out and showing that the value is 1. So, my question is why does sem3 timeout, even though the semaphore has been triggered and the value is clearly 1? I would never expect to see line 08 in the output. If it times out (because, say thread 2 has crashed or is taking too long), the value should be 0. And why does it work fine for 3 or 4 hours first before getting into this state? This is using Ubuntu 9.4 with kernel 2.6.28. The same procedure has been working properly on Redhat and Fedora. But I'm now trying to port to ubuntu! Thanks for any advice, Giles
